Thor, you interviewing other game devs is some of my favorite content that you make. You provide an educated persepctive and the devs seem to be more comfortable coversing with you beacuse of your background
So you really mean he comes off as pretentious and so do the other devs and they feel comfortable because they know they won't get asked any actual difficult questions.
This was an awesome surprise. I've been following this game for a while now without much deep dive content, and this has made me so excited once again for it
@@TheSpowl your idol is a harasser and a coward of people less fortunate than him. he uses his daddy's wealth he inherited to build his fake 'programming business' and to harass people anonymously with hacking and verbal abuse. this dude is a tool, research maldavious with this dude and you will see.
Thanks for the great interview Thor. It's really nice to watch a talk with a dev that gets a bit in the nitty gritty of things. I'm not in the games industry, but I do work as a dev and it's really interesting to see this.
Yup. Shoot I think it’s most important that when the interviewer asks a question… they just let the other person fully answer it. Thor was honestly really good at this. He let the guy answer it initially, the fella got comfortable knowing he had his time and space, and then he expounded upon his answer.
"One of my favorite mmo's of all time" followed by "we made that". That built more trust in the project for me than the whole interview, which in itself was already good.
I mean to solve the las gun shield problem there is one easy in lore solution. When FH writes about the reaction in the first book, he states that is unpredictable. Sometimes it doesn't do anything, sometimes it kills the shooter, sometimes it kills the objectives, and sometimes it makes the atom reaction. You just have to set a high chance of killing the shooter to avoid explotation (like 75%), both (10%), objective (15%) and a very slim chance of the atom reaction (0.001%). This would avoid the explotation of the las/shield reaction and at the same time it would add a very cool moment when an atomic reaction happens, would be a full on server event (maybe not so cool for the ones involved).
I love these talks with other game devs. Thor having a platform for these guys who provide so much fun for all of us is awesome. These guys should get more credit and praise for how hard they work and how much time they put in to give us something fun to play with.
When it comes to worm riding, one way it could be implemented is as a means of traveling to locations that are inaccessible via other forms of travel due to a dust storm. Not the corriolis storms, obviously, they'd rip you to shreds. You could have top tier locations hidden within the dust storms that are only available during the storm, and with limited visibility, etc, you'd have to physically search the area to find them. The worms themselves become tired after a while, and have to be released, so to escape the location you'd have to call another worm and repeat the process of gaining control of the worm to exit the location. I think this would work well as a lore-friendly game mechanic for including worm riding, without it becoming simply a gimmick.
As someone who was interested in this game but super concerned about the potential PVP toxicity, this interview sold me on playing. Really great interview, Thor; nice work.
I played test server over and over on Ultima Online, it wiped regularly. Not to test anything, but because the server was so much fun when it first came up. I really like the sound of weekly wipes, but partial, and the rush for discovery. That rush for discovery and rewarding efficiency is really appealing.
Quick security question. I'm a average employee at a large and probably vulnerable businesses. The intruder alarm goes off several times a week and it's always not an emergency, so much that now people just ignore it. This seems like a huge security risk. How can I bring this to managers attention appropriately? Love your content, great job dude!
Im stoked on the idea in Dune Awakening of the haga basin and deep desert. It effectively creates a Rust gameplay loop in the Deep desert, with the weekly wipe and constant PVP and Raiding.. but which keeps any progress of your character and anything you manage to get back to your non-raidable base in haga basin. Which effectivly creates a PvE server gamplay for PvE'ers. Brilliant idea.
Worm riding would work great as a mass transport of resources out of the Deep Desert, assuming there isn't already an analog. Signal surrounding enemies, maybe a thumper alerts everyone you're trying to pull out with a cache, PVP ensues.
The process he describes in the beginning is basically SAFe. a lean business case, being refined by an Epic Owner with a System Architect with the Tech Leads of every team involved with a feedback loop from the Business Owner that created the case.
I think a cool idea about the solo guild is not that it enables solo players to participate, it's a good way to flag yourself for a similar playstyle. Solo Cartographers who keep seeing each other might say hey, want pool our resources? We can make more money if we split the work. I think mega guilds are a problem with MMOs. Even with caps you get sister guilds who all follow orders, but if you can empower smaller guilds to be able to be impactful you create an ecosystem.
The greatest question now would be: is shooting a lasgun against a shield considered a warcrime in the game? The atomics treaty is quite clear on the subject.
@@syncplop they already explained this, in the dune awakening universe they have implemented safety in the laserguns that will not shoot a shielded player and NPC
Wow, thank you so much for this video! My husband and I are big fans of Dune and have played and enjoyed most games by Funcom. I have been keeping up with Dune Awakening since it was revealed, I believe 2022. I have been really on the fence about this game, not sure I want to play it but at the same time it is very compelling. I just got an invite to play the closed beta and after watching this video I am much more hyped for this game and am going to give the beta a spin!
Appreciate the interview, there has been a drought in news for the game recently. That being said most of this interview is rehashed stuff thats been covered in Funcoms existing dev diaries. We are at a point now where an hour and a half interview has like 15 minutes of actually new information because everyone who interviews the team knows nothing about the game and so the entire interview is eaten up by bringing the interviewer up to speed.
I just started playing secret world with my fiance and its been a great time so far but seeing this pop up on my feed is sick! Definitely looking forward to this too!
I am still shocked I haven't seen a survival game that does PvP enabled by action economy. I know blockgame has a timer, but it becomes negligible once you start earning, and the timer on that is more stress than fun for me, but like when PvP is opt-in I find everyone is having the most fun, so it's cool to see that PvE zones exist for the peeps who can't stomach harming other people's gameplay.

Honestly.. Conan Exiles was and is very meh. I bought it on release 8 years ago because I like survival games, but it turned out to be just another early access survival game with barely any progress over almost a decade of development. In the end it became another "survival" game milking the loyal player base with DLCs after DLCs as content instead of finishing the game first. I'd absolutely hate to see a Dune game being milked the same way, coming out on early access and fall into this genre with endless "development" plagues.
Question for the creative director: Is there a cooldown on server rules? could people decide to make it full-loot pvp for all time, or is there a limit on how many times a server rule can be implemented before it goes on cooldown? Just an idea!

Commenting at 26:19 About the ornathopters. I think there should be sandstorms in the desert that roll through that make flying nearly impossible. There should be a "clearing" zone on either side of the sandstorm wall as it approaches. In that zone you can fly with extreme difficulty as the winds and debris threaten to make you crash by doing wild things to your controls. In the heart of the storm, if you are flying you get even worse control input malice, and your vehicle starts to rapidly take damage. That way fliers aren't the end-all-be-all of traversal, they should also have low storage capacity/ carry weight vs ground vehicles of the same size.
If conan isnt pay to win, explain the item "the gibbet" from the bazaar, and many other items like it. While items like these are cosmetic, they also provide an advantage in game. In this specific example the gibbet replaces a lesser wheel of pain. The advantage being the gibbet is much smaller and can be easily hidden on a pvp server inside a small base inside a crack. The guy who doesn't buy the gibbet from your store must have a minimum of a 3x3 fountain base to fit his lesser wheel of pain to accomplish the same goal of breaking a single thrall. I truly hope this is not a thing in dune.
