Bought this game three years ago, left it on the shelf. Just finished playing Cyberpunk 2077 and remembered I have this board game. Started playing yesterday and didn't understand half of the rules and mechanics. Then I found this gem of a tutorial and suddenly everything is much much clearer. Awesome board game!
Production quality here is insane - I love the little details like how the Heimdall window came up with 6 strength and bumped to 7 right when you mentioned it. As a novice player trying to learn strategy, it can be hard to find explanations in plain English. Everyone uses shorthand for popular cards & strategies, and it can be really intimidating when you're just trying to learn the basics. I appreciate that you guys take the time to explain the motives behind your moves and what makes certain cards great.
That is great to hear Caleb. We try to be the "ambassadors" of board games and explain things for everyone to understand, it feels great to hear you confirm that. Cheers, and thanks for watching!

This clear explanation of Netrunner, helps to break down the barrier to entry created by its thematic terminology and mechanics. I started playing this game in 1996, I was skeptical when FFG re-released it in 2012, it is truly still a great game. The revised core looks like the cards have been well chosen.
This was great, you made this game so much more accessible. It's hard to break through the intense wall of symbols and jargon this game uses, as well as a theme (hacking) that is not super well understood for a lot of people.
I'm just getting into this game (I know, I'm 100 years late!), and this video is exactly what I was looking for. It's so good, so well made, so tasteful and so much fun to watch/pause/read/compare/watch... thanks a lot guys!
Excellent to see you guys supporting Netrunner again, especially during such a pivotal time for the game - your high quality content was missed. To be a rules-stickler though (for the sake of those learning the game), there's a fairly substantial misplay surrounding Pheromones (an admittedly confusing card) when Zach purges virus counters at 1:18:55. All virus counters are appropriately removed (5 from Pheromones and 1 from Crypsis); however, Pheromones should still have 5 credits on it (that remain until Steven spends them). I shall try to explain; apologies in advance for this being quite lengthy: Pheromones' text reads: "X [recurring credits]. Use these credits during runs on HQ. X is the number of virus counters on Pheromones. Whenever you make a successful run on HQ, place 1 virus counter on Pheromones." Recurring credits are refreshed at the beginning of that player's turn. Of note, recurring credits do not stack; a player replaces recurring credits up to the number listed on the card when his or her turn begins. Hence, if Pheromones has 5 virus counters on it, at the beginning of the Runner's turn, it will refresh back up to having 5 credits on it (yes, 5 credits AND 5 virus counters). When Zach purges virus counters, the virus counters on Pheromones will be removed, but the 5 credits should remain, given that Steven did not spend them the previous turn (he drew three times and played Forged Activation Orders). Those 5 credits will remain on Pheromones until Steven decides to spend them during a run on HQ, as recurring credits are only ever replaced up to their current value, not removed - even though Pheromones now has zero recurring credits (because it has zero virus counters), the 5 presently on it remain on it until used. If Steven then decided to spend all those 5 credits to successfully get into HQ (thus putting Pheromones back at 1 virus counter), however, Pheromones would not refresh to 5 credits the following turn, but 1 credit. Again, sorry for the hefty rules 'assault'; hope this helped!
Left MTG a long time ago for this game. Yes, the theme alone is substance enough for some great ideological and philosophical conversations. Glad to see you guys finally do your own tutorial video for it. Hope you continue to show it the same love and passion you always have for years to come.
Watched many videos to understand this game. This is the best by a long shot. You did a great job illustrating both the basic rules but also the strategy and the decision making process. Stellar work guys!
Team Covenant Thanks! Hey, quick question: torwards the end when Steven had free access to archives and Zack had to facedown cards there, was there any reason not to use doppleganger's effect after a sneakdoor to make a free run on archives?
Gold Standard tactical walkthrough with tidbits of general strategy. Your crew is amazing. Love the professional and fun attitude you guys bring to games, especially for the LCG community. Thank you so much for such an in-depth tutorial. Ice interaction always eluded me until this effort. Each wave of the demonstrated lessons or rules came together for a great overall understanding of why one would commit particular actions, not just what are one's options.
Thank you for the incredibly kind words. So great to here that this was helpful! We have four more gameplay videos on the way, and the last two dive head first into the ICE interaction mechanics!
What a great video. I normally skip around in explanation videos and run it at a faster play speed, but I sat back and enjoyed all of this video. You guys are great. Subed!
Netrunner is a game near to my heart. When I first began, your enthusiasm and excellent level of instruction was so appreciated. Over the years, I've happily pointed numerous friends and family to this series to learn the game. I just wanted to share a genuine thank you for all you did for the game.
Despite the license not being there anymore, thanks for these videos! I have found myself snatching a copy of the Revised Core and am loving it so far!
Great stuff, glad to see you back in Netrunner! A small note: You kind of combined the virus counters and recurring credits on Pheromones into one type of counter. Especially for new players, I think it'd be important to see a clear distinction, i.e. you don't get to use new credits if you make multiple HQ runs in the same turn, because recurring credits only refresh at the beginning of your turn; or when the corp purges virus counters, the credits that are already on Pheromones remain there until spent.
A well produced video - thanks for that! Definitely forwarding it to new/beginner players.... Plus, it's fun to watch :-) Not easy to pull off in a training game :-) A couple of notes: 1. It would be GREAT to have a timed index in the description. For the key concepts you introduce or just for the flow of the game. It's a 100 minutes of material, so that would definitely help to navigate people to the right spot when referencing your material. 2. For future videos, maybe use sleeves or mats in varying colours. Black on black may be a bit hard for some people (not for me, since I love black).
Picked up the revised core set at a swap meet after watching a number of y'all's Netrunner streams over the pandemic era. Going this far back and seeing Zach's short hair is wild haha Thanks for all the great content TC!
This really helped us not be so intimidated by the game (after about 4 views lol), thanks for putting this together, this has really helped us enjoy Netrunner!
I played this game way back when it 1st came out(ish, there wasn't much out beyond the Core) and still, watching a 100min tutorial was worth every min!! great tutorial, great Netrunner LTP series. thank you, TC!!
Man, this is such a great video, thanks for making it! Both my teenage sons are watching it, getting pumped to play Netrunner with me. But now I need one of those beautiful Covenant game mats... so pretty! :-)
Yes! Cannot even imagine how great it would have been to play Netrunner at that age. Given the direction of our world, Netrunner skills may be quite important to the next generation! We do have a few of those playmats for sale if you want one! teamcovenant.com/product/covenant-playmat
Gone too soon. Now, the property is in the vile clutches of the Coast-dwelling Wizards. Every-time I remember Android: Netrunner, I am also reminded of Dreamblade and Duel Masters.
Just ordered a core set the other day exited to get into this game gameplay looks fun! Got a buddy here in Vegas telling us to play so best time to try it out now that PQ season is over
Fantastic tutorial! :) Just got Netrunner to play with my brother. I checked out your website, and your ethos really touched me, human connection. I'm not as lucky to have a space to interact as much with other gamers, there are some but I feel that they can create a toxic culture, or focus too much on certain products. Its refreshing that you value that connection and people's wants.
Welcome to Netrunner, and thank you for the kind words. We believe tabletop facilitates connection, wins and losses are secondary. We hope you enjoy the rest of the series, and if you stumble upon our other videos we always love honest feedback! Cheers!
Thank you guys for making videos like this. Not only are they entertaining, they offer a good amount of information, and lets me scout out other LCGs that me and my friends might enjoy playing.
Wow, man! Great Video! Please, do a second demonstration match like this for showing the remaining mechanics like Traces and net damage (you didn't talk about that in this video unfortunately). And, hey, those acrylic tokens you made are awesome!
Thank you! We have four more games already recorded and on the way! We get to everything through the series. And you can find those tokens on our store if you are so inclined! teamcovenant.com/product-category/android-netrunner-ffg-living-card-game/data-tokens-credits-click-trackers
Im new to card/board games and just stumbled across a Netrunner bundle. I work in cyber so was immediately intrigued. I watched a 5 minute video on why I should by the game and then this video in it's entirety and omg I'm sold! I actually watched a near 2 hour video of people playing a card game, this is huge for me, I don't do these sorts of things :D I think it says a lot about the game and the great tutorial and production, kudos.
Got the game recently and just read the rulebook (in french, note) and some concepts got cleared up when viewing that video, so thanks for that. Will still have to reread the rulebook before playing though. P
Great video! Just played for the first time and wanted to check if we got it right (sort of). Thanks for the many many examples and completeness! It was long but worth it! 1.5x speed ftw.
Welcome to one of our favorite worlds Arick, check out nullsignal.games/ - they are keeping Netrunner alive. And let us know of you have any questions.
At the moment I do not have this game (I will get it in few days) but watching your game was as much fun as watching any other sport match (or StarCraft, well you get an idea) :) Great video and great how to play explanations.
Excellent decision! We do offer Netrunner pack and box subscriptions as well as custom tokens for the game when you are ready to dive in! teamcovenant.com/product-category/android-netrunner-ffg-living-card-game
Ironically got into this game after it was dropped by FFG and I got a notification in my Google sidebar about a NISEI new set. I'm glad the game still lives on.
Rly rly love your channel. Best how to plays and unboxing videos. Just want to see good old star wars lcg videos. Maybe some deck techs of your fav. decks? Keep on rocking!
Love the serie, Netrunner lacks of beginners / introduction video. This reboot is a great opportunity to get new member joining the community. Looking forward more.
I’d really love to visit your store one day, had to come from Germany though. One day I will! Great videos, thanks for that. Just getting into Netrunner...
Team Covenant Thanks, I will! Love the setting, I‘m a Shadowrun Veteran, so im totally into Cyberpunk. Netrunner manages to bring that to life and make the players feel it quite good. I’m just lacking friends who also play... Star Wars was my main LCG so far. :) Like the way how each side plays totally different...
pheromones was such a weird include in a core set. Such a complex, unintuitive card. Your simplified version of using it worked pretty well to not bog the game down in explanation. I just hope people understand that when you add a virus counter, the recurring credit isn't available until your next start of turn when recurring credits refresh.
We tried to keep it simple, but that does risk confusion later. We honestly did not realize how complex it was until posting this up - that is one of the joys of a new Revised Core...using cards you have never used before!
Brilliant! Thank you so much for making this video. I've got time on my covid-infested hands so I decided to go back to Android Netrunner. Congratulations to Zach on the win and Steven on the eloquent explanations of the game's dynamics.
Never watched a walkthrough this long before, but this is so well done it really kept me glued till the end! Thanks so much for explaining everything in such a clear and informative way. As a total newbie I wanted to ask: are there pre-made decks for Runners and Corps starting so one could start playing w/o too much effort? How "good" are they? Thanks!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! There are a lot of ways to start playing now. The original Core Set was "ok" as a starting point, with some suggested pre-built decks. The Nisei starters now come with pre-built decks that are great for learning!
Played tons of NetRunner in high school - I'm super happy to see that Android: NetRunner isn't a reimagining of NetRunner, but rather a faithful continuation. That's an interesting change to the way that traces work. I didn't notice any other mechanical changes, except for bad publicity, which wasn't covered.
So at 54:00 the Corp discards a facedown card, from what I could tell by the rules set in the Revised Core set is that it should have been placed in the Archives sideways?
Bought this game three years ago, left it on the shelf. Just finished playing Cyberpunk 2077 and remembered I have this board game.
Cheers!
the best tutorial video about this game! Thank you very much!
Thank you very much, this is one of the most helpful, likeable intstructional videos I've ever seen!
Thank you Dennis! Hopefully it has led you to start playing Netrunner.
Wow nice job! May be time to dive into Netrunner.
Yes! It is time.
Lol
You guys did an awesome job with this video. Can't wait to see you do this for the other games you support.
Thank you John! Appreciate your viewership.
Love to hear this! The game is one-of-a-kind, truly special. Still going via Nisei Project. Check it out!
WOO!!! I've been waiting for this! Great work guys!!!
Longer than I expected but still very interesting
Great video. Just started playing with a friend and this helps a lot!
Well done guys! Great intro to a very complex game.
Got the game recently and just read the rulebook (in french, note) and some concepts got cleared up when viewing that video, so thanks for that.
Will still have to reread the rulebook before playing though. P
A very engaging and well produced video. Well done guys.
Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed it.
2024 and still relevant as ever. One of the best tutorial video for ANR
Really excited to give this a try, thanks for a great tutorial!
Let us know how you like it after a few games!
BEST tutorial ever. Thank you for all the heard work. I play my first game tomorrow.
Great video! Just played for the first time and wanted to check if we got it right (sort of). Thanks for the many many examples and completeness! It was long but worth it! 1.5x speed ftw.
Thank you Chris!
Great to see you guys making Netrunner content again!
Great vid guys. Just bought the NISEI starter pack.
Such a great game to watch even it was just a tutorial. Love Netrunner.
These videos helped me get back into the game!
Fantastic! Welcome back!
heard about this years ago, finally going to give it a try. Cant wait!
Thanks!
REALLY excellent and succinct explanation of the game. Helped me to do decide to but it. Thank you!
I'm glad the game still lives on.
oh is it still in production then?
Yeah can you explain this to those of us who wanted to get into it but found out it was dropped???
I wasn't even looking at Netrunner, but after watching this video, I just went out and bought the core set.
I wish I could like this video more than once.
Guys, just.. thank you. Great tutorial and letsplay.
And this game is wonderful, really.
Rly rly love your channel. Best how to plays and unboxing videos. Just want to see good old star wars lcg videos. Maybe some deck techs of your fav. decks? Keep on rocking!
Thank you!
Things I never thought I would say in my life: I just watched a feature length card game.
Really great video, I learned a ton. Thanks. Subbed.
Thank you for watching!
Been waiting for this video for a bit, thanks TC! Zach, I hope you took it easy on Steven, this isn't L5R!
Love the serie, Netrunner lacks of beginners / introduction video. This reboot is a great opportunity to get new member joining the community. Looking forward more.
Such a perfect video. Thank you!
Great video! Because of it, i'm interested to play netrunner.
That is great! Let us know what you think after a few games!
I’d really love to visit your store one day, had to come from Germany though. One day I will! Great videos, thanks for that. Just getting into Netrunner...
We would love to have you visit! Thank you for watching and keep us updated on what you think of Netrunner!
Brilliant tutorial - Still love this game, but there's no way you roll a die when accessing HQ! Go with your instincts every time lol!!
Brilliant! Thank you so much for making this video. I've got time on my covid-infested hands so I decided to go back to Android Netrunner. Congratulations to Zach on the win and Steven on the eloquent explanations of the game's dynamics.
The game is really well made and thought out. Really perfect.
@@teamcovenant awesome! Thanks for the swift response! Really appreciated and subscribed!
Thank you! Best way to learn the rules!
Great vid guys!
Beautiful game and well taught! I see why this is one of your all time favorites. Are you guys gonna play cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out?
Thanks Chris! Cyberpunk 2077 looks incredible - hopefully someone here gets a chance to play it!
Couple of little errors such as Stephen still having a click after the run at 1:34:40 but a very good intro.
this is a beast of a video. kudos
So good to watch a classic netrunner game.
We have four more on the way!
I only play Yu Gi Oh but this is very interesting. The mechanics are new for me but I have to say I feel like I would enjoy a match very much.
Very interesting game. It feels like there's a lot of pressure on the netrunner side.
Great video have learnt a lot please make more😃😃😃
Played tons of NetRunner in high school - I'm super happy to see that Android: NetRunner isn't a reimagining of NetRunner, but rather a faithful continuation. That's an interesting change to the way that traces work. I didn't notice any other mechanical changes, except for bad publicity, which wasn't covered.
Thank you for the great video
This is great tutorial!
So at 54:00 the Corp discards a facedown card, from what I could tell by the rules set in the Revised Core set is that it should have been placed in the Archives sideways?
Yes, this is to alert the runner to its presence, so the corp doesn’t try to hide that it’s there.
Good video.
I noticed that you didn't cover jacking-out of a run. Is that going to be covered somewhere else?
Absolutely! Four more gameplay videos on the way.
Fantastic video!
