I imagine these kinds of videos take a ton of work editing between the camera angles, but the presentation on these is just absolute top notch. I love card games, but it's so hard for me to watch people play on youtube, with the exception being these videos, netrunner and L5R. I rewatch these every few months just 'cause it's... it's just good.
Exactly the same for me. Well said. (Wllingdone also has some very good Netrunner game analysis videos I just remembered. But yeah Team Covenant is unrivaled.)
I probably watched this whole series 10+ times. Netrunner has changed and the new decks are a bit more explosive, but I feel like beginner netrunner 2017 style was so fun. Always a pleasure to re-watch those and the lessons taught are still relevant today.
I've spent the past year slowly (s-l-o-w-l-y) learning Netrunner (friend of mine has all the cards), and this series continues to be fun and interesting. As I get better, I get more from these. There's a friendliness and easygoing charisma to you two that's a joy to watch. Thank you so much!
I'm an old MTG fun, just start following you I discovered AN and you make me very curious about this game. Please keep make this gameplay video, the format is great and really helps beginners to fall in love with the game.
You guys are just the best at this kind of thing on you tube. Love watching you play and talk through the games. Because of your channel I got in to both netrunner and l5r and love them both.
There are a lot of new players in our meta. If I could force them all to watch this, I would. Since I can't, I will settle for HIGHLY recommending it. Great to see new Netrunner content from Team Covenant!
Way late to the game, but I just got into netrunner this past week (mainly because of NISEI). Your videos have been instrumental in my learning of this wonderful game. Thank you guys!
I absolutely love how comfortable you two are together, and how driven towards your goal of showing us the game you are. There is absolutely no animosity between you two that I can detect and I love it. I love that you were willing to just show your entire hand in the beginning of the match just so you could explain things to us. Its truly amazing and I thank the both of you for your wonderful attitudes Edit: Oh you Mulliganed after that 🤣 my statement still stands, I'm kinda glad you did that tho bc it explains to us exactly why that seemingly good hand is in fact, not the best when paired against a Runner like Kit.
Thanks so much Otto! Zach and Steven met each other through tabletop games when they were ~10 years old and have been playing ever since. Glad that it shows!
glad to see some netrunner gameplay again. Love it. /edit: +sweet animation during the ICE strength calculation. Got me fooled for a sec, like how is that a correct number?!
After almost four years playing other lcgs, I finally got all the packs and properly got into competitive netrunner. Well, what I always suspected proved to be true: this is the best card game! The originality and the fun of playing this game is atop everything else I have ever played! Keep up the netrunner staff guys, I love it!
I have learned two things from this video. 1) I now know how to start playing Netrunner thanks to the flawless demonstration play. 2) PROPER math is needed
You've convinced me to buy this game. Hard core card game player from magic. I was hesitant a little until I saw this video with the built decks. Excellent content I'm so impressed with the quality well some. Looks like there's a ton of room for personal style.
Such a great game. I miss stopping by the old shop when I was in town on business and getting some Wednesday night games in. Usually got schooled, but enjoyed every minute of it.
Great video as always guys. I really appreciate talking through the thought process on your turns. It is really helping me start to wrap my head around the more strategic aspects of this game. The logic of what to do once you are ahead as a runner, and some of the deductions you can make about where agendas might be are great.
Great and very entertaining video! Just one minor correction, though: at 1:04:10, Steven says that the active player chooses in which order Femme Fatale and Tollbooth trigger. That's not entirely true - the active player's effects _always_ trigger first, but each player decides in which order _their_ effects trigger. So it's not actually possible for the runner to choose (for whatever reason) that Tollbooth would trigger first, forcing the runner to pay 3C, and then trigger Femme Fatale, bypassing the Tollbooth after paying the toll. Femme Fatale _must_ trigger first in this interaction. A runner playing Nasir Meidan does however get to choose which of Nasir and Femme Fatale triggers first.
These are fantastic videos. I also enjoyed the destiny games with open hands and explaining the strategy. Would you guys consider doing something for the game of thrones LCG? I feel most the content out there are just recorded games which dont really explain it that well.
Nice video, guys. Really enjoying it. I just have a newbie question. How is it that the runner could access R&D with TME when he did not have any code breakers installed (16:14)? I understood that he could break the subs using the clicks he had but he didn't have ice to match Viktor in the first place, so how can he even get to dealing with the subs? Is this the special ability of TME or am I understanding the rules wrongly?
Also a newbie. So he did you have to have a program with 6 strength in order to even 'encounter' that ice's subroutines? I thought if you didn't match strength you couldn't even try to break subs.
Thank you Ninad! This is wonderful to hear. We do have a couple of Netrunner offerings - Pack/Box subscriptions, where we send you all future Netrunner products automatically, or our Data Token sets. You can find both via these links: teamcovenant.com/product-category/covenant-lcg-pack-booster-box-subscriptions/android-netrunner-living-card-game-lcg-subscription teamcovenant.com/product-category/covenant-custom-acrylic-wood-board-game-gaming-tokens/netrunner-compatible-tokens
I have a question. With aggressive secretary do you have to have advancement tokens on the card to trash a runners programs. Still learning to play the game. My opponent payed two credits on my run and said the two credit payment was considered the advancement to trash my programs.
The Corp must advance Aggressive Secretary at least once to be able to trash a program. Corp can advance the card when it's face down. If the Runner runs that server and accesses Aggressive Secretary, the Corp can pay 2 and trash a program for each advancement counter on it. So usually, you install it, pay 1 to advance it, and install ICE. Then the Runner thinks it's an agenda, runs it, and you pay 2 to trash a program.
Your videos is the one thing that makes me the saddest that AN "is gone". Only getting to it now (I'm the "I'll wait until it's over to start watching that series/movie/game" kind of guy), so only now consuming AN media. And Team Covenant are the best out there, on AN content.
Team Nisei is a group of passionate netrunner players that are continuing to support netrunner. They just released a new set last month on their website that you can print out or print on demand. After playing a few games with the new cards I will say AN is far from gone.
It's quite possible I have been playing wrong but in order to break ICE of any kind wouldn't you still need a compatible ICE breaker? If Viktor 2.0 can truly be broken only by spending 2 clicks without any ICE breaker, can you point me to the rule that specifies that?
Why would you a need a code breaker installed if you’re breaking with clicks. The subs are broken. who cares how it was done? what is the icebreaker doing if it’s just sitting there?
I guess I just assumed that the only way you could break a subroutine (whether by paying for the icebreaker to do it or alternatively by clicks) you still needed an icebreaker that meets or beats its strength. That was my interpretation anyway. Thanks for clarifying.
I just got the core set as I saw it recommend as a 2 player card game, we really like it but want to add more cards to choose from but everywhere seems to be sold out of basically all the expansions - will they be doing a reprint soon?
i knew he needed 31 credits to get through and it was like looking at a train crash in slow motion as he planted down the femme with 29 in the bank; i think he calculated that hed have 4 clicks in that turn so he could magnum+install+index+run, but loosing that one click tripped him; and had the corp installed wotran instead of the 4/2 the corp would have actually won the game since he had one click left after scoring the 4/2
Nice playthrough! But I would have felt better had the Corp won, as a huge issue in the game in the past (before the "reboot") was balance favoring Runner a lot. It never felt like Steven had a real chance. Oh well, hopefully the next MWL sees Magnum Opus banned :)
MikeymajQ The new core is a combination of cards from the original core and from the first 2 cycles (any cards in those sets not in the new core are rotating out), so you can definitely still use some of your old stuff.
There is certainly competitive play! Players bring both a Corp and Runner deck to a tournament. Each round, players use both of their decks against each other. You can find more about tournaments in the official documents: images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/15/63/156393d7-e8ea-4e22-bfeb-321d79da830c/adn_tournament_regulations_v221.pdf
Never played Netrunner but I'm probably more interested in the world than any other game I play but I'm wondering if Netrunner would be worth getting into casually in 2018...
It is a great world! The largest hurdle for a new player now would be finding packs and boxes. Most sets where short to begin with, only exacerbated by collectors buying up everything when the end of the game was announced!
You might also look into NISEI, a fan organization dedicated to continuing Netrunner: stimhack.com/introducing-nisei-a-fan-organization-dedicated-to-continuing-netrunner/
32:41 isnt that ICE rez 3 and strength 4+1? But you both state its strength 4. Am I missing something or is that a misplay? Anyway, good content as usual
It's about getting Magnum Opus on the top of the deck so you can draw and play it next turn. So you use the temporary MO to get your money back and build enough to play it onto the board for the rest of the game next turn. Clicking for 4 credits doesn't get Magnum Opus on top of deck!
I know this is an old comment but this is not true. He did spend 2 clicks both times. The first time he even says “second and third click” and while the second time he only goes “third click” he then ends the turn afterwards.
Hah pretty rough that there was already an agenda on the top for the Indexing run (57:54) from what I could see. He did the safer play in theory...if his math had been right...
Zach's first turn may not have been ideal. In Netrunner, you have to look at your click efficiency, in this case how it relates to your economy. Test Run into Magnum Opus meant he spent 4 clicks to net $3, which is worse than clicking for $1 four times. Granted, it put the MO on top of deck, enabling him to install it turn two, which may have put him in the black on click efficiency over the course of the game.
Yeah, finding Opus as fast as possible is often a Shaper goal. If you consider every Opus click throughout the game, that early inefficiency levels out.
I think he could have gotten in at 59, ya? Did he have 9 credits after indexing? 2 for str against the first ice, 1 to break ETR and take brain damage, 3 with femme for the next. Then he has three left. 2 to match str, and the last 1 to break the trace.
Except if he only has 3 cred left against Vik2, he can only break 1 of the 2 subroutines, and he will need to break both to not end run and not take any more damage.
It can be a tough call depending on how much money the Runner has, especially if holding cards like Sure Gamble or Liberated Account and needing to get up over the credit threshold. All about priorities and managing tempo!
Yeah, definitely not the case. There were several swings in corp/runner meta power over the years, but outside of just a few months (namely, when the Astrotrain was choochoo and after Jackson Howard got rotated) it was amazingly balanced. The Most Wanted List keeps a lot of the sickest cards out of competitive play, but really it was just about how many different approaches to winning the corp factions had available and how many the runners could tech for in the same build.
I speak for all of us when i say, I miss Android Netrunner
I just started playing lol

Why cant all board game/card game channels be this easy to watch? You guys do a great job!
Thank you Kevin! Thanks for watching.

Pier Paolo Giacomoni This is the best card game ever! (from an old MtG player as well)
A friend just introduced me to netrunner. These videos are an excellent resource.
I just got into Netrunner and these games have both taught me how to play and shown me why it's such a great game. Well done on a fantastic job.
Only critique is I would recommend using sleeves other than black on a black mat. Just so people can see server locations clearly. Love the vids!
On it!
I agree , even though i absolutely love those black dragon sleeves !
I really dig the decision to include a modern pack (at least at the time if the recording). Great video for new and old players alike!
"This is good and fine." - Steven, when things are definitely not good and fine.
You guys are just the best at this kind of thing on you tube. Love watching you play and talk through the games. Because of your channel I got in to both netrunner and l5r and love them both.
That finale was glorious! Very well done Steven and Zach!

Revisiting Netrunner again - love the video, a greaat refresh, and v entertaining too

For TOLLBOOTH does the ability trigge? Or does FEMME FEtale triggers the ENTIRE CArd instead of JUST The SUBROUTINE
Still great videos to get into netrunner, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video guys. Well done
I'm really enjoying these even though I'm a bit late. found these after some netrunner stuff was given to me. These are very helpful!
How are you liking Netrunner after playing it some?
These are fantastic videos. I also enjoyed the destiny games with open hands and explaining the strategy. Would you guys consider doing something for the game of thrones LCG? I feel most the content out there are just recorded games which dont really explain it that well.

You guys have great click trackers. You didn't wanna use them, or was there a contrast problem with the black matts?
Just reducing complexity as best we can. They are present in future games!
Great series, really enjoying the thoughts about the game, tactics, etc. Well done.

Hi, Sorry where are the decklists? Its hard to navigate through your site to find them.
A lot of our links got mixed up when we updated our site recently. I’ll do my best to get you a working link on Monday.
Forever and forever farewell, Brutus.
If we do meet again, we’ll smile indeed.
If not, ’tis true this parting was well made.
That was a great end. I take it the miss count was a bluff?
It's quite possible I have been playing wrong but in order to break ICE of any kind wouldn't you still need a compatible ICE breaker? If Viktor 2.0 can truly be broken only by spending 2 clicks without any ICE breaker, can you point me to the rule that specifies that?
Kid Unleashed I believe this may be the golden rule case. The card says it can be done so it can be done
Why would you a need a code breaker installed if you’re breaking with clicks. The subs are broken. who cares how it was done? what is the icebreaker doing if it’s just sitting there?
It is on Viktor's rules text! You can break any of those subroutines by spending a click (action).
I guess I just assumed that the only way you could break a subroutine (whether by paying for the icebreaker to do it or alternatively by clicks) you still needed an icebreaker that meets or beats its strength. That was my interpretation anyway. Thanks for clarifying.
I too was always under that impression. The things you learn...
Great video. Seeing the way it played out and the theory was really helpful in my early days of deck building. Great production too.
didnt the geordian blade keep the strength till the end of turn? at like 59 mins in the
I just got the core set as I saw it recommend as a 2 player card game, we really like it but want to add more cards to choose from but everywhere seems to be sold out of basically all the expansions - will they be doing a reprint soon?
No sorry, it has been cancelled. For more info look this Team Covenant video about it.

Great video, very intense.
What type of sleeves are you using?
Matte Dragonshields! They are wonderful and we use them on every card in our shop. goo.gl/tHxTh3
31:20 It happened... wowzers.
Ridiculous, right?!
Are those sleeves on the cards?
If so what brand do you use?
Love the series and am looking to get a revised core set when it drops!
We always use Dragon Shield Matte - teamcovenant.com/product/dragon-shield-card-sleeves-matte
Thank you very much!
i knew he needed 31 credits to get through and it was like looking at a train crash in slow motion as he planted down the femme with 29 in the bank; i think he calculated that hed have 4 clicks in that turn so he could magnum+install+index+run, but loosing that one click tripped him; and had the corp installed wotran instead of the 4/2 the corp would have actually won the game since he had one click left after scoring the 4/2
Is there a limit of the number of cards you can have in your deck?
and is there a limit on the number of cards that you can have in your hand?
Nice playthrough! But I would have felt better had the Corp won, as a huge issue in the game in the past (before the "reboot") was balance favoring Runner a lot. It never felt like Steven had a real chance. Oh well, hopefully the next MWL sees Magnum Opus banned :)
I want to play this
If I have the old core set, can I get the revised one and comebine them somewhat or is it more of a case of throwing the old one out completely?
MikeymajQ The new core is a combination of cards from the original core and from the first 2 cycles (any cards in those sets not in the new core are rotating out), so you can definitely still use some of your old stuff.
Check out this list of cards in the Revised Core Set! A lot of classic Core cards still perfectly serviceable. netrunnerdb.com/en/set/core2
So is there competitive play with this game? How is a disparity between runners and corps handled?
There is certainly competitive play! Players bring both a Corp and Runner deck to a tournament. Each round, players use both of their decks against each other. You can find more about tournaments in the official documents: images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/15/63/156393d7-e8ea-4e22-bfeb-321d79da830c/adn_tournament_regulations_v221.pdf
How was Zach able to get passed Viktor 2.0 at the beginning if he didn’t have a code gate icebreaker with equal or greater strength?
It has the "click to break subroutine" text.
How can I get my hands on those beautiful tokens you used with Femme Fatale?
We offered Seduction Tokens for a limited time. Maybe it is time to re-introduce them? Beware beard. ruclips.net/video/-KPUJyMFaJg/видео.html
shutupandtakemymoney! I just got my second set of data token + credit addons, I need an excuse to pop for shipping on a team covenant playmat.
New to Netrunner. Definitely subbed. I'll let my girlfriend figure out various basic strategies on her own ;)
Never played Netrunner but I'm probably more interested in the world than any other game I play but I'm wondering if Netrunner would be worth getting into casually in 2018...

32:41 isnt that ICE rez 3 and strength 4+1? But you both state its strength 4. Am I missing something or is that a misplay? Anyway, good content as usual
They modify what it says on the card on the overlay! So it is, in fact, strength 4 in Stronger Together.
DjMiniboss oh, got it, was wondering if they kept forgetting. Thanks for the clarification
25:16 !!!!! I wouldn't drink that...
Why play test run and MO then use 3 times? Seems to net you 3 credits when you could use 4 clicks for 4 credits.
It's about getting Magnum Opus on the top of the deck so you can draw and play it next turn. So you use the temporary MO to get your money back and build enough to play it onto the board for the rest of the game next turn.
Clicking for 4 credits doesn't get Magnum Opus on top of deck!
Zach was using the card "Same Old Thing" incorrectly. He was only spending one click for its effect instead of two clicks.
I know this is an old comment but this is not true. He did spend 2 clicks both times. The first time he even says “second and third click” and while the second time he only goes “third click” he then ends the turn afterwards.
How I wish the revised core set was not so 🤬🤬🤬🤬 expensive!
Take 8. Best pressure move in Netrunner.
Haha, so true. Some things just never rotate out...
Ahhh CaC...the only deluxe expansion I was never able to buy...otherwise my collection is almost complete
Hah pretty rough that there was already an agenda on the top for the Indexing run (57:54) from what I could see. He did the safer play in theory...if his math had been right...
@57:13 should't it cost him 6 credits to power it up to 5?
Just found your video and found this game already end of license. It's look incredible fun, How sad :'(
We miss it quite a bit! Was a great game.
@@teamcovenant does this mean they won't produce expansions anymore and that they will became rare/expensive?
Zach's first turn may not have been ideal. In Netrunner, you have to look at your click efficiency, in this case how it relates to your economy. Test Run into Magnum Opus meant he spent 4 clicks to net $3, which is worse than clicking for $1 four times. Granted, it put the MO on top of deck, enabling him to install it turn two, which may have put him in the black on click efficiency over the course of the game.
Yeah, finding Opus as fast as possible is often a Shaper goal. If you consider every Opus click throughout the game, that early inefficiency levels out.
Kudos from 444 Gematria!
Lol 30.05 he choked on the card that randomly fell in his cup earlier on, what was that 😄
No please TC stop. I don't need to buy into another game
One does not simply watch a video...
25 minutes in and Zach's coffee got poisoned by capitalism.
Haha!
I think he could have gotten in at 59, ya? Did he have 9 credits after indexing? 2 for str against the first ice, 1 to break ETR and take brain damage, 3 with femme for the next. Then he has three left. 2 to match str, and the last 1 to break the trace.
Haha, unless you bluffed him into thinking he couldn't get in and you knew he could.
Netrunner is a mind game ;)
Except if he only has 3 cred left against Vik2, he can only break 1 of the 2 subroutines, and he will need to break both to not end run and not take any more damage.
Fang-Yuan Chang brain damage doesn't matter when the game has been won.
Thought Zach only had one card during that run, so he would die instantly if he took two damage.
43:50 don't you mean 'get schwifty'?!
Just wondering, why didn't the runner just run in and trash that unprotected adonis campaign early on? I feel like I'm missing something.
It can be a tough call depending on how much money the Runner has, especially if holding cards like Sure Gamble or Liberated Account and needing to get up over the credit threshold. All about priorities and managing tempo!
Never run last click!
While a greater truth has never been spoken, you have to know the rules to break the rules!
Dang, find I game im really interested in then find out it got cancelled 2 years ago and a core set coats a hundred or more.
We were all quite crushed when it was discontinued.
this game was fun but I remember, runner always win in this game, it gets old fast
Definitely not the case, haha.
I wish they would convert this to video game.
