Ive always enjoyed playing and watching netrunner, but I’ve never enjoyed watching it more when I watch you guys play it, I’ve re watched you’re netrunner playthroughs countless times, rerun after rerun, and I just can’t enough of how much you both enjoy the game as much as I do, PLEASE! If you can, just post 1 new video of you guys playing it netrunner, even though the game is dead
Don't let this be the last :-( This is literally my fav series on yt. PLEASE do the idea of the worlds 2017 top two from the swiss playing matches against each other; you can actually get FOUR games from those decks if they play themselves. Your editor won't mind doing four more surely... BEst guys
Hahahhahaaha, oh my oh my! @1:30:58 when that really crappy card infiltration shines so very bright, and Steven's facial expression says it all..... Netrunner at it's finest gentlemen. Thank you!
Guys as an old time fan and someone who bought the tokens from your site few years ago when I first watched you play Netrunner I have to say the following. I have just finished rewatching this the second time. I see absolutely no reason for you not to do 1 more game in the same fashion as you did this for the old time sakes. You are obviously loving the game, we all obviously love watching you play. Just cystom build each other deck and have one match up for the good old days. Please!
Thank you Damien! We were considering an archetypes blog - remember there is more to the series over on our site: teamcovenant.com/android-netrunner/learning-series-how-to-play-tutorial
Well after watching this i decided to purchase the Nisei starter set and some nice token. Still gotta lot to learn but this was incredibly enjoyable to watch and super tense. I need this. Would love to watch more. Thanks again from the UK
@57:26 "It's the 4th video on the series, you should know a little now" Aha! joke is on you! This is the first Netrunner video I'm watching! I sometimes like to get into a playthrough/match of a game I know NOTHING about, and see if I can pick it up on the way. EDIT: This was SUPER enjoyable.
Ok guys, you are officially my fav duo playing card games. It is so fun watching these netrunner videos. I hope someday somehow we play a match or two, although me living in Europe makes it quite hard...
You never know! We are usually pretty busy at conventions and events, but if you ever are at the same event as us be sure to say hello. If we have the time, we would love to grab a game or two!
I am a new player and I discovered your channel by searching for Android Netrunner content. Let me just say, that you guys are the best ! And I love watching your videos. It is extremely helpful when you are explaining your moves and also your card choices. Keep up the great work and please do more Steven vs Zach video series. You are such a good duo and I have learned so much from you. Would love to see you two playing some cool combo decks as well :-)
Hey gents! Long time fan, first time commenting. =) Just here to say thanks for these vids and everything you do for this game! High-quality, personable, accessible entry-level content created by people who truly love to *teach*; I would make it myself if you weren't already doing it so well! Talking through the thought processes, displaying the cards you're talking about ....amazing. Now I can "show" perspective players how awesome the game on their own time: I just tell them to check out FFG's tutorial, then watch a game here. I shall have a local meta if I have to build it myself!
Fantastic Derek! The best place to send new players is the comprehensive series on our site. RUclips is only one piece! teamcovenant.com/android-netrunner/learning-series-how-to-play-tutorial
Gotta say, being a no die man, as Zach is the only way to run in Netrunner for me, been a 'no die man' since the first game, and would live and die in tournaments just for that feeling, of hitting 2 outta 2 from a hand.... amazing!
Not to nitpick play, but I think it's worth pointing out that at 53:25 Zach should have probably clicked through the Trash a Program sub on Assassin so that Aumakua doesn't get trashed. Zach facechecks ice knowing that he can mitigate the facecheck with Always Be Running (by spending two clicks to break whatever the nastiest subroutine is). Then Steven rezzes the Assassin and Zach doesn't break (probably forgot). Aumakua is such a strong card that it's worth breaking the "Trash a Program" sub on Assassin with ABR for two clicks.
Also he didn't refill his hand with the autodraw right, since he didn't have max hand size after the 3 net damage? Or was there another reason he couldn't do it
I absolutely loved this series and really hope you consider taking the time to do more. Up until you started I had been searching for gameplay vids to see the mechanics in action. However all the other videos I found were much harder to follow and often the commentary didn't describe what was happening or only pointed out the big moments. At this time I can't afford to subscribe to your services but when I can I will definitely consider it.
I cannot stress how good this series has been from someone who has never played the game before. I bought the game a while back, but due to to being a bit overwhelmed by the rules, it worked its way into the game closet and never actually had a chance to be played. After watching this series, I really want to get into Netrunner. You can tell when they play, they are really enjoying the game and that shows through. I hope you guys keep making Netrunner playthrough content. On an earlier video blog you guys were talking about all of the banned cards from the original core set, would it be better to get the revised set to start fresh, or go with a deluxe expansion (not factoring in cost)?
That was kind of the way I was leaning, however I know almost nothing about the deluxe expansions (other than more cards, obviously).. Thanks for the response!
Nick Keeling The reasons why you'll see a lot of suggestions to get the deluxes are A.) because they provide a ton of cards for specific factions, and B.) they will likely not rotate for competitive play, so they will likely be tournament legal for the longest. Even if you don't plan to play in tournaments you'll find casual players tend to follow the tournaments rules anyway!
This is excellent to hear Nick! Be aware that there is even more information on the full series here: teamcovenant.com/android-netrunner/learning-series-how-to-play-tutorial
Fun video, didn’t realize how long it was going to be when it started and when it was over it didn’t feel that long despite a couple of the turns being super tanky, which just kinda happens in netrunner sometimes
When Sol scores under Employee Strike, they clear the current, but since their box is blank when it is scored, they do not get to immediately play one. This is the rare window in a Sol game with no current out, and News Hound being temporarily neutered.
Even though it doesn't change things in this game, it is totally worth noting that runners *never* score agendas. They only steal them, and vice verse for corporations (they always score, never steal). This has important implications for the word on currents and also the behavior of cards like Film Critic (which doesn't actually cause the agenda hosted on it to be stolen).
when you're discussing what should happen at around 8 minutes, a couple times you say "if the agenda is scored or stolen," but runner currents only clear when agendas are scored, and corp currents only clear when agendas are stolen. Also means runners can't clear corp currents using film critic. (LOVING these videos, btw.)
This is so conveniently timed for me. I just started making a NBN RC+DAD deck for a RC+1 Deluxe tournament. I am testing a deck but I noticed some problems and so I wanted to see a more developed deck, but it was hard to find something that matches my constraints. Thanks!
My group mainly plays with all cards available as we are not tournament players. Our current pool is the genesis cycle, core set, and all deluxe boxes including terminal directive. With Adam HQ interface and E3 feedback Implants are amazing. E3 being useful for factions other than HB makes Adam really useful :)
Great video! The Emp Strike call is correct but I wanted to chime in about Stevens thought process regarding simultaneous triggers and paid abilities. Basically, the active player cannot just choose for the his/her opponent to trigger actions first, before triggering their own. I think this is a common misunderstanding of some age old ruling. What happens is that during each action window the active player gets to trigger their abilities first, in the order of their choosing, THEN their opponent gets to trigger their abilities, in the order of their choosing. So the only choice that you actually get as the active player is to not trigger abilities (if the ability is not mandatory) or to trigger YOUR abilities, in the order of your choosing.
Vincent J. Rubio You started talking about simultaneous triggers and then switched into paid ability windows half way through. The rule of simultaneous triggers is the active players triggers happen first, then the inactive players triggers.
MrTaylork1 I mentioned both in the beginning of my reply. The whole point of my comment though is that you can only choose the order of your own simultaneous triggers/abilities, not the order in which active vs inactive players perform those abilities, that's all.
Why, at 54:15, was the second part of Always Be Running (spend 2 clicks to break a subroutine) not used to break Assassin's second subroutine to avoid having to trash a program?
I've listened a handful of times at the explanation about Toolbooth vs. Gordian blade around 21:30 and didn't get it. 0.75 speed didn't help, I'm too slow - help, how does the blade help to get around the 3 credit cost? Watched it fully - a m a z i n g game!
Tollbooth says "the Runner must pay 3 credits", not "the Runner must pay up to 3 credits". So if you only have 2 credits when you hit Tollbooth, you lose 0 credits (because you can't pay 3). So after Tollbooth is rezzed, there's a window for paid abilities. You can use the ability on Gordian Blade (or anything that costs a credit) to go down to 2 credits, then when the Tollbooth ability fires you can't lose 3, so you lose 0!
Rewatching this in 2020 brought back memories. I'm not sure what the production cost and time of these videos was, but if you ever have time you could do a 'celebratoy' video of past Netrunner some time! Even set youself a limited Meta so the decks are like these ones and not too over powerful. Great vids!
lol the fucking Crossfire commercial edit, I love it. Also I wish the regular buddy I play against had been forced to start with Adam, because goddamn is he ever a stagnate runner. Plays a lot of Shaper and loves Netinstaller. Sometimes 3-5 turns without a single run, like bruv come on. He also has an unreasonable aversion to floating tags. I was lucky because I fell in love with Criminal so face checking was never a problem or fear, but it's been hard for me to adapt to actually building up a rig with Shaper or even Anarch to a certain extent now.
How did the game get balanced ? How do I know the differences between netrunner "now" and netrunner "back then"? ...just starting to play tbh. ...kind of a weird time to do so. Is there other more active/recent games than NR out there?
I think it was obvious that Steven was desperate and that Zach should have run that server. Still, an excellent game that was tense right up until they end. It was good to see Zach's slightly unusual deck begin to dominate and almost win effortlessly, only for Steven to pull off an amazing comeback.
Could you explain two things about News Team? First, how exactly does the zero trash cost work? Obviously the runner can't trash the card for zero and receive none of the bad effects, so what does that zero cost mean? Second, how does News Team work if its in your archive? Does it trigger only if its face down? Or will it trigger any time the runner accesses archives? Thanks and great videos by the way!
Great questions! The trash cost of a card comes into play after any of the access effects; so News Team triggers first, then the Runner has the option to trash it for 0 credits. If News Team is in Archives when the Runner accesses Archives, then it will definitely trigger. And it is for this latter reason that you might opt not to trash the card, even for free. If an opponent installs News Team in a server and you run the server and access it, you might just want to leave it there instead of trashing it and putting it in the Corp's Archives. Once it is trashed, running Archives is much more taxing, and it also allows effects like Archived Memories to bring it back into play. It can be best to leave a trap on the board where you know to avoid it instead of giving the Corp additional opportunities to use it.
Thanks! And I just want to add my voice to all the people who want more of these videos. These are some of the most enjoyable play-through videos I've ever watched. Please make more!
Also worth mentioning that when the runner added -1 to his score area, his hand size should’ve gone down to 6 due to brain chip or whatever it’s called. Yet when 3 net damage fires, he has 7 cards in hand. *edit* they noticed it 5 min later haha.
As somebody who owns the old core set, is the revised core set going to become a thing where it gets revised every few years, or just a one-time clean slate balance?
It does seem they are now willing to do whatever they think necessary to keep the game healthy, so it is possible it could happen again. As far as we understand though, this is a one time occurrence.
Team Covenant Cool, thanks! Also, are there any plans to make this an ongoing series? Like a bi-weekly or monthly casual Netrunner game? The chemistry between the two of you for these Learn-to-play games was really good, and a casual game every so often would be a great way to introduce newbies like me to bew cards and mechanics.
I just found out that you guys are in Tulsa! I am too! My brother and I are DEFINITELY going to be coming by your store asap. Any chance I could get a game of Netrunner in with either Steven or Zach??? :)
"Old Netrunner" is a reference the way the original game felt. "Old Netrunner" had far fewer cards than the current iteration, and because of that there were less tricks and abusive combos.
Duh. Now that you say it it's obvious. Thanks for the quick reply. :) Got my revised core set today. Learned how to play from your videos. I'm looking forward to playing it. Keep up the good work!
#askcovenant I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I’m finally watching the Learning Netrunner series! I’m loving the videos so much that I’ve decided to buy into the game despite it having been terminated recently x] I don’t suppose you’ll be doing a last hoorah release of token sets for this game, by any chance? I’m super keen to get my hands on some cards and have a few games with my partner...but as Steven said - cardboard tokens don’t seem terribly futuristic! Anyway guys, thanks heaps for all the amazing content and I look forward to seeing what you have to show us next :)
Great question Ben! We will do our best to answer it in a podcast, but if we do not, we will tell you that we are going to do our best to keep them in stock. Make sure you are on the waitlist, and if you miss them hit the waitlist again. We are making them as fast as we can, but are not sure right now how long we can continue to do so.
Love this game but I don't think I'll upgrade to the revised edition. I don't play competitively so I can't see the point. Happy enough with the original game
According to the announcement article, this is not the case! You can find that article here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/9/11/boot-up-and-run/

So sad when they said that :(
Always wonderful to hear that this content is valuable to people. Adding onto the series in the future is definitely on the table. No worries!
Maybe also give the other independent runners some attention, Apex is really interesting.
@teamCovenant But I want it nooooowwwwwww. *sob.
Seriously guys, no one else does gameplay vids this engaging, acessible and with this level of polish!! (trust me, I've looked)
I love Wooley's wistful look into the distance, having a Crossfire smashcut memory.
Great work!
Get caught up in it.
Hahahhahaaha, oh my oh my! @1:30:58 when that really crappy card infiltration shines so very bright, and Steven's facial expression says it all..... Netrunner at it's finest gentlemen. Thank you!
Wow, that Crossfire flashback with Steven's wandering eye felt truly cinematic. Great work!

Hey Loki, have you seen our latest Netrunner games?

These vids (and the l5r ones) are really awesome. Keep them going, no reason not to get into archetypes, "Here is a glacier deck...fast advance..etc"
Thank you Damien! We were considering an archetypes blog - remember there is more to the series over on our site: teamcovenant.com/android-netrunner/learning-series-how-to-play-tutorial
Showing off the remaining two mini-factions would also be interesting.
Loved this series, really cool, and you guys are so nice and informative. Please do more games!
Thank you Louis!

It's absolutely worth your time.
I am so late to the party, but I just got a 2012 core set and I can't wait to start playing!
Welcome! Not sure anything will ever be as good as Netrunner, honestly. Any way you can find to play it - you should.

Epic way to finish the series. Superb in all respects. Well done guys!
As a new player this series has been incredibly useful. And what a game to finish on! Thanks so much guys. Love your work.
Awesome to hear and glad you found the series so useful!
This series was awesome! Please bring it back!
Cool game, well done! Got a good laugh when I looked at the Adam decklist and saw no fracter in there at all. Wraparound doing some good work.
My favourite video of the series so far! Thanks so much! Can't wait to see more Netrunner stuff from you guys, merry christmas!
Merry Christmas Ollie!

Great series, dudes! Also, Zach's frequent Big Lebowski quotes really warms my heart.

Not to nitpick play, but I think it's worth pointing out that at 53:25 Zach should have probably clicked through the Trash a Program sub on Assassin so that Aumakua doesn't get trashed.

Ok you two, for real. More of these vids pls either your own creations or otherwise. Watched this whole series a handful of times now... Seriously

Fantastic to hear Donald! Exactly what we were going for.
Guys, wow! Thank you for making these videos!
Yeah! Adam made it into one of these videos. Merry Christmas to all my TC brothers
and respect for the crossfire cut in - media team is working hard for the year end bonus
Merry Xmas, Jamieson. ;)
Awesomw match!! More of this guys! Didn't you watch how excited you were?
At 19:15 the runner gets to choose the order of access. He doesn’t have to access the upgrade first.
Correct!
Miss this serie soooooo much.....
Great video, hope you'll keep this serie going!
That was fun to watch the tension of that game!
Awesome video. You guys are so good at these... the best part is that it makes me want to play immediately!
Thank you! We are glad you enjoy them.
I just bought Revised Core Set and Data & Destiny. Just found your channel, love this!
Great to hear from you, and congrats on finding a Revised Core!

What a game! You guys run the best matchs!
Thanks Marino!

Vincent J. Rubio Yeah, everything you said was correct, it was just confusing switching topics partway
Why, at 54:15, was the second part of Always Be Running (spend 2 clicks to break a subroutine) not used to break Assassin's second subroutine to avoid having to trash a program?
I assume he forgot. He also had 7 cards in his hand during the previous subroutine when he shouldve had only 6.

What a fantastic game. Perfect.
Also note that the runner's currents are only removed when an agenda is scored, not when an agenda is stolen!
What a game! Loved this, so funny to watch. I’m literally waiting for pay day to start playing this game, and the revised set
Wonderful decision!
we need a team covenant in the UK. Make it global😀 we don’t have the subscription package over here. Loved watching all your videos.
Guys, what delux pack would you get to suppliment the revised core? Cheers
Rewatching this in 2020 brought back memories.

Thanks for the tutoring. Solid videos.
Thank you John!
Nope the game is going to get cancelled!
Always wondered. That building belongs to you guys or are you renting for shows?
I just found out that you guys are in Tulsa! I am too! My brother and I are DEFINITELY going to be coming by your store asap. Any chance I could get a game of Netrunner in with either Steven or Zach??? :)
That is great! Come by anytime. Steven and Zach are in and out, and Thursdays are the organized Netrunner league night! We look forward to seeing you!
Thanks for these videos! What sleeves are you guys using in this series?

I love the smell of Beale in the morning!
Good lord, this was such a good match.
We definitely thought it was the best game. INTENSE!
What sort of sleeves are you using in these videos? They seem pretty solid.

5:34 that reference tho
Really interesting vids! But what do they mean with "old Netrunner"?
"Old Netrunner" is a reference the way the original game felt. "Old Netrunner" had far fewer cards than the current iteration, and because of that there were less tricks and abusive combos.
At about 44:52 how could Zach run Archives twice without paying the breaking cost of 1 credit? :o
Great question, it is because he used his Bad Publicity each time.
Duh. Now that you say it it's obvious. Thanks for the quick reply. :) Got my revised core set today. Learned how to play from your videos. I'm looking forward to playing it. Keep up the good work!

I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I’m finally watching the Learning Netrunner series!
I’m loving the videos so much that I’ve decided to buy into the game despite it having been terminated recently x]
I don’t suppose you’ll be doing a last hoorah release of token sets for this game, by any chance? I’m super keen to get my hands on some cards and have a few games with my partner...but as Steven said - cardboard tokens don’t seem terribly futuristic!
Anyway guys, thanks heaps for all the amazing content and I look forward to seeing what you have to show us next :)
Great question Ben! We will do our best to answer it in a podcast, but if we do not, we will tell you that we are going to do our best to keep them in stock. Make sure you are on the waitlist, and if you miss them hit the waitlist again. We are making them as fast as we can, but are not sure right now how long we can continue to do so.
A good Surprise Mary is my favorite
That infiltrate #value
Love this game but I don't think I'll upgrade to the revised edition. I don't play competitively so I can't see the point.
Happy enough with the original game
Note that revised core set does not include any new cards, so unless you want the updated art you are already good to go!
Team Covenant only the art is different? I thought some card abilities were changed to work better during competitive play.
According to the announcement article, this is not the case! You can find that article here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/9/11/boot-up-and-run/
Team Covenant thx I'll check it out.
I didn't feel the need to get a revised set either. I loved the cards and identities in the first core set.
1:15:39 Zach takes a 5-click turn :)
Quick question can you advance agendas or assets that are in archives?
You cannot! You can only advance assets and agendas that are installed.
What sleeves are they using?
Holy crap Data and destiny is $250!
A little late, but just a reminder: if the runner dont pay 3 credits when encountering tollbooth, the run end.
At 55 I would have used the double click to prevent a program getting trashed.
Would have been a much better play, no doubt!
No! This cant be the last one!
Hahaha I used to have crossfire. Damn I'm old.
Can runer vs runer
No, always Runner v Corp.
Team Covenant ty
So interesting how NISEI just banned currents!
Makes perfect sense!
Your pronunciation of Aumakua isn't too off. It's a spirit guide from Hawaiian mythology.
"We got a reader ..." snarky laugh
Does not make me want to try and learn this game
