    Netflix was the worst thing to ever happen to the sport that is formula 1, great for the owners pockets but horrific for the actual sport. 80% of fans now are just fans of a celebrity driver and will die on the hill that their chosen driver can never ever be wrong regardless of what you can show them and it’s destroyed the ability to converse with people online about the sport. This applies to the new super fans of everyone on the grid.

      Its just the same as all fandom for anything, films, music, games, cars, even politics. The internet makes 2 can van dammes out of everyone, then people are so scared of not fitting in they copy and paste quotes and opinions from a tiny minority . And without a tin foil hat you need to also consider infiltration of bots that downtread westernised populations so that the things that bring joy bring sadness.

      I don`t agree. The bigger problem what effects every aspect of our live is social media. And that there are basicly a lack of rules made by the EU or governments. It is destroying politics. Lots of crime online and you can go on and on. The big tech companies controlling our lives and it is not good.

      Netflix helped the sport. Investments and renewed interests are the lifeline of F1. For beginners and light weight casual viewers it is a great way to introduce the sport, add in artist liberty and a spice of drama. It's a tv show, and like every tv show, its priority is entertainment. Enlightened people can see beyond the facade.
      If one want's to learn more about F1 they'll have to do their own research beyond drive to survive.
      A fan's ability to make nonsensical cognitive decisions on drivers is more so a result of their biases, not because of a TV show. We've had these type of fans since the beginning and will continue to do so.

  • @JeanneJames
    @JeanneJames Месяц назад +12

    As usual Peter is right. The amount of times, for years, I shout at the camera direction showing NOTHING I want to see. You MIGHT see a tricky overtake in a replay but you rarely get the guts of a race. And the reason commentators don't give tech commentary is that they don't know the tech. Fans will always find better analysis elsewhere. As a person who's attended a few races, yes, you see more on TV but nothing beats that atmosphere. Great chat, thanks.

  • @deanrwatson
    @deanrwatson Месяц назад +8

    UK F1 commentary (from ex Drivers) always carried a bias. Murray Walker was quite upfront about it, in a charming almost fatherly pride way to the likes of Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill.
    But generally we had it with Lauda vs Hunt, Prost/Senna vs Mansell, with Schumacher vs Hill and Hamilton vs Alonso and lately Max.
    I remember Brundle bemoaning Schumacher being too aggressive and out of order and being this and that (possibly for the Rueben's Wall incident). Then literally a week later, he's on a Top Gear segment marking the anniversary of Senna's death, with Clarkson, rewatching some early footage of them racing in a lower Formula. Whereby he says "Senna, would position the car so either you let him through or you had an accident." cue a clip of Senna taking them both off and his car ending up, on top of Brundles' such that the car is trapping him in his seat, resting partially on his head. "he was an amazing guy".
    If they weren't blinded by the fact they cannot see the paradox, it would be ironically funny. It's not that their point of view or analysis is always wrong, it's that they are not consistent.

If then some of these characters also appear in the media and feel the freedom to vent their own opinion which clearly breaths preference/bias, it becomes untenable. It has become blatantly clear that Race Control favours the runner up and slows down the leader in the championship. Similar as in '21. Remember their existence is tied to the popularity of the sport. I think in Brasil they totally disqualified themselves for the job as they were not even trying to hide it anymore. The VSC in Sprint, the Red Flag in quali. Choosing to penalise Max in the Sprint but just keep it a fine to pay for Lando’s start infringement during the race. All commentary outlets across the world have made remarks and jokes about their calls during that GP (well, apart from the British ones of course). This man is going to be a 4x champion with the only driver younger to get that many being Sebastian Vettel who he’s already surpassed in wins and beaten his 9 win race streak. So really the only driver comparable that’s still in a conscious state(pray for Michael🤞) is Lewis Hamilton and I don’t think Lewis could be jealous of anyone even if his records get broken because he has such a big brand. Damon Hill took it personal the way Schumacher would race him and I think he sees the same in Max and he has this Ted Kravitz vibe of we can’t let him get away with this and still be hailed as one of the all time greats. Unfortunately for Hill, Kravitz, that dumb blond guy on the Sky post races, Max is universally now being accepted as one of the all time greats. Peter, I am listening to you say how boring it is when he broadcast is only showing the low hanging fruit and I agree the commentators do not help. Either crafty is always explaining what DRS means and the most basic things that every fan already knows my biggest complaint is exactly what you said. Why don’t they get into the technical stuff what is the car doing 30 laps later now that it has lighter fuel what is the driver doing? How are they tackling different corners? This is one reason why I enjoy listening to you because you’re way more insightful but I do wish commentators were more technical in their commentary

    I SO agree with these two about what we fans want to see and hear after a race. Talking to drivers is usually uninformative about how the race unfolded..
    As an example from another sport I watch....rugby union.
    After an international test watched on DAZN ,one former player tells me what has just happened 15 seconds ago ( I was watching so I know what happened) and the other former player explains why it happened, whether it was a good choice, how they might have done it and what the consequences were etc etc. Much learned.
    Peter's point that Damon offered an opinion is perfect.......if you disagree, it's a great talking point with your mates.

    Damon Hill lost his cotton-picking mind. When he said Max was driving like Dick Dastardly, he seems to have forgotten that Dick Dastardly was Damon's own father. Think I'm making it up? Damon Hill is the one who confirmed it wasn't just Graham Hill's look that the cartoonist copied. "Just look at Dick Dastardly - that is my dad! In the ’50s they lived out of each others’ pockets."

Whilst I enjoy Peter Windsor's views and insight, those opinions are just that and to be taken along with Sky Sport's views and reviews. It all adds up to a divers oversight of F1. Also, I don't want opinion, I want analysis. And yes, I love books.

  • @Koksta1972
    @Koksta1972 Месяц назад +1

    I think listening to the current team/drivers is more or less useless. They are all very much media trained. Good example is Valentino Rossi (and I know it is MotoGP). But in all of is post race interviews he just said "the track is great, the fans are great" and zero other info came out, so getting a more in dept understanding of the sport listening to former drivers and team bosses is a good informative thing. Secondly what all the broadcasters (be it Dutch or English) are doing the same sort of coverage. They report what they see, which is highly irritating because I have eyes myself. Sky just does it slightly better overall, in my opinion.... (people like Bernie Collins, Nico Rosberg, Damon Hill, all give insight on why things are or could be happening). And that makes it more informative imo.
    So the reason I watch RUclips channels (or listen to podcasts) firstly is to get a better understanding on why. Plus people like Peter Windsor give a better understanding (and an addition) of a very secretive world.

Good Show.

    When David raced he competed against a driver, Michael Schumacher, who drove in a similar fashion to Max, as both were both extremely talented and ruthless. Max like Michael will instinctively chose the option of taking out his competitor if he believes it will help his championship aspirations. As David was personally the victim of this from Michael, when he sees this same behaviour in Max, he gives his honest assessment. Politically he likely overstepped the mark in his comments, he could have safely made his point without running afoul of Sky Sport’s political sensitivities limit

    Surprised to discover that the esteemed Mr. Windsor apparently has FIA sanctioning confused with FIA branding. USA's championships, regional in scope as they are, are sanctioned (and therefore insured) under the purview of the FIA's regional authority, ACCUS-FIA. The FIA identity remains outside the limelight but the infrastructure is very much in place across the USA's top series'.
    Any attempt to insure a high-speed motorsport event outside the FIA's umbrella policy would surely be surrounded by participant costs that reflect the astronomical premiums that Lloyd's would charge for a non-FIA wildcat.
