The better explanation would be that they're a fixed point in time in a way that can't ever be truly destroyed at any point in time. Whenever they're close to extinction the timeline finds a way to correct itself to prevent this no matter what the Dr does, whether it be through escaping or previous fail safes. He can try as much as he wants but they'll never disappear.
I would assume theyre not expressly for self-detonation purposes, but theyre actually what generate the shield that the daleeks always have that deflect most of the damage that we see them get hit by. I would guess that for self-detonation, they invert the shield such that instead of keeping things out, it keeps all things in so it can detonate safely
The original tech tocuments listed them as "sensory orbs," but later writers forgot that they are there to give the Daleks 360 degree multi-spectrum vision.
"I refuse to be like you, mom!" If they had gotten past the teen phase... maybe they could have recovered. Even gone to college or a trade school or gotten a likable job. Maybe she could have had a generation of little grandkid Daleks running around. So sad what they lost out on... 😢
Well the ones that are the "last" usually aren't, they're usually just very scattered. And the times armies of them appear he usually is further back in time, I think like 2012s they're all destroyed besides random stragglers around the entire universe.
This is one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever. Rose somehow made us care deeply for a malicious imaginary completely alien race. That was good acting and good writing.
3 daleks: we are the last of the daleks we are the last of our species "Five episodes later in the entire Armada of daleks appears have nowhere then get destroyed by the doctor" "The cycle repeats itself"
Aww. Well that was pretty sad. And I don’t even really know what it was about¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Humans just always gotta be being cruel to some creature or another. 🤦♂️ Why are y’all like that?

It's sad, because they were humanoid once. The episode where you meet Davros shows us this exact fact.
I think it was 3 factions before daleks became the only species of skaro.

if i had a nickle for every time the doctor met the last of the daleks
They are the last stuck-in-somewhere Daleks.
You'd have around 10
You would have a lot of nickle

@@blankslate7 but it's weird that it's happened so many times
Considering time travel
You edited out the Dalek's last exclamation of "EXTERMINATE".

That's pretty good explanation. From a powerful force, to a single dalek, back to an amipre of death once again.
It might be exactly how a war with time jumping would be, never a final result.

The amount of times i read "last of their kind" in this comment pisses me off for some reason

“So am I” is heartbreaking honestly.
This is one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever. Rose somehow made us care deeply for a malicious imaginary completely alien race. That was good acting and good writing.
This was the best actor they’ve had play the Doctor.
He’s the last of the Daleks
19 years later: so that was a f$&king lie
I am not DALEK, I am enemy of DALEK, I must die
Their self destruct is so cool. Now we finally know why they have the little balls on the hull
I remember seeing this on release on the telly, gosh i love dr who
Are.. You frightens... Rose, Tyler?
So am I...
I actually feel bad for this one
Bro as soon as the door closed you could instantly tell they used an imagine/cgi or animation for the death 💀
Man to this day I have such a crush on the Rose Tyler of Doctor Who. She is probably the reason I love British blondes.
As the war doctor said.
Bad wolf girl I could "kissing motion" kiss you!
I completely forgot about this Dalek being frightened. And it wasn’t because he was next to The Doctor
ok that self destruct was well done
Really cool effect, but sad circumstances though
Dalek
Doctor Who: Season 1, Episode 6
First time I've felt bad for a dalek
Oh, so THAT'S what those little bumps are for.
There is a comparison you could make between this and Dalek Sec that I can't quite figure out
Or so it thought… Wait, I mean “or so they thought” referring to both the Daleks and Time Lords
3 daleks: we are the last of the daleks we are the last of our species
"Five episodes later in the entire Armada of daleks appears have nowhere then get destroyed by the doctor"
"The cycle repeats itself"
It's ironic because later there are more daleks
Humans evolve into the Time Lords or the daleks either way it's humans vs humans
Second bad wolf?
This was around the third or fourth episode of the series restart back in 2005 I think. Before the Bad Wolf thing started.
Rose Tyler.
My 2nd favorite companion.
Leila will always be 1st !
Last Darleks my a*s doctor. Theres like a couple of them out there. Theyre even different colors! The red ones, the blue ones, the pink one....
During the time of the 9th Doctor, the Doctor believed the Daleks to be extinct like the Time Lords were
We don't talk about the pink one
Isn' thah beh'ahh?
Isn't that bä ah
I'll tell you what I want what I really really want
Why do the daleks float?
They have boosters underneath them
Isnt tha be'ar
