Justin is so bright. I really enjoyed his unique take on taking on yourself. Such an interesting and stimulating conversation. Tune in. You will learn a lot about yourself.
Justin's message is timeless and important to hear over and over again. His background is fascinating and bring a unique perspective to the integrity of our words.
Great job Justin! Definitely something we all need to think about with the new year approaching. We make all these resolutions but then we lie to ourselves constantly about why we never accomplish those resolutions. Definitely something I will be thinking about going forward.
I loved your talk, Justin! A wonderful reminder that our subconscious is always listening and how we can use the W.A.V.E. method to live more consciously. It was a pleasure to share the stage with you as well!
I loved this talk Justin! These strategies and tools can help me with my journey to discovering my own failures and success. I am now aware of my choice of words that help in those failures and/or success just by listening to you. Thank you!
This was truly eye-opening! It’s a great reminder to reflect on where we might be falling short and how we can shift our language and actions to create positive change. Thank you for sharing this, Justin!
A refreshing approach to personal development, rooted in sustainability, self-empowerment and recognizing that growth is a journey requiring patience, and consistency.
Great job on this TEDx talk Justin! I love this daily habit of using the WAVE method for interrogating your inner self and correcting the dialogue we use. Very powerful!
@@311donpedro use clear and concise language when communicating with your team. Focus on concrete and behavioral terminology. The more accurate our language is when working in teams, the less errors occur and less time is wasted. Which can save your company profits as well.
My mother needs the wave method lol the rate in which she lies is just... astounding. Even when she gets called on it she just dismisses it like it doesn't matter. Drives me mad.
I remember I had just started dating this guy and I was talking to my best friend about how I knew he was lying to me about this specific thing and she said, "It's unrealistic of you to expect 100% honesty from people." and it really changed my perception of her because I don't think it's unrealistic... if you're living your life in a way that you're not ashamed of really what reason is there to lie about anything?
Great talk! You are brilliant and a natural speaker. Such a unique perspective and really got me reflecting on the importance of self-awareness and accountability. Thanks for sharing such practical insights. I am definitely going to work on applying these techniques in my own life. So proud of you and blessed to do life with you. ❤
I think the most dangerous thing we can do is lie to ourselves, especially on a large scale like sculpting a false narrative of your life and repeating it so much you start to believe it...
The part about not using "I'll try" etc seems like it could be helpful but it also just sounds like NLP which I know has been discredited over and over
I disagree that everyone lies at least twice a day... that can't be true?? I make it a point to be completely honest, even if it's incredibly uncomfortable!! - because otherwise you're deceiving people about who you are and if you do it enough you start deceiving yourself. Also who has the energy to keep track of all those lies?
I see shadow work as a process of releasing the ego. We often feel compelled to present an idealized version of ourselves to the world-our kindness, generosity, our selflessness -anything that highlights our strengths and makes us appear favorable. Meanwhile, we tend to hide the aspects of ourselves that we’re less proud of, such as our traumas, insecurities, or flaws-our shadow side. These parts are typically not what we want others to see. Justin's TED talk focuses more on reprogramming the way we speak to ourselves in order to avoid self-sabotage. In my view, his approach can also lead to shadow work, as it encourages us to confront and heal the parts of ourselves we often overlook or suppress.
Woah, "lying is a lack of commitment to excellence" is a sobering thought.
I will do better when talking to myself. Very insightful. The level of commitment we use is a true predictor of behavior.
The power of the words we use... A great reminder for us all.
Leadership is language.
Very informative, what a blessing it is to have a good guy like you around. Articulate to say the least. Proud of you man.

This talk speaks directly to me. All to often I lie to myself saying “I’m trying” or “I’ll go run tomorrow”. It motivates me.
Turning this into a regular practice will change the way you behave.
If you want to change the world, start with yourself. Incredibly insightful approach. Great job!
I had some great mentors along the way.
Be a productive member in your community and W.A.V.E!!! Such an easy and impactful acronym to remember! Great stuff!!
Thank you 👋
Unintentionally lying to myself with my choice of words is a huge eye opener. Something I will change.
Great to hear.
I enjoyed this talk. I shared it with my 12 year old son. Great advice for having the hard conversations with yourself.
So important to start early. I’ve been teaching these concepts to my daughter for years.
Such a great talk, thank you Justin. "

Spot on. Thanks for having the courage to share a much needed insight that we can all benefit from.
It’s been a long time in the making.
Listening to this and had to remind myself people are at all different stages of self-development.
You are correct. Building this level of awareness can be a great first step.

Body language is definitely a piece of the entire picture.

@JustinWAtherton Poor language can really get in the way of good leadership . Any pointers for someone who just started managing projects ?

Okay the language shift in the truck story was really interesting. Like it's so subtle but it really does indicate so much!

Exactly… you have to have fun with it to make it a new habit.
You have to be true to yourself before you can be true to others.
Exactly

Does all language have to be definitive?
Great question... NO. This is about self-awareness and your own language. There are times when you can't or don't need to be definitive.
