um, you dont want to do this. OBD is not a charging port.

I don't think so. The only item constantly attached to the OBD port is my UltraGauge which reports on dozens of sensors in real time. My dash cam and other extra devices have their own fused curcuits.

Hello, I have a question about how the obd2 switch works, is it necessary to keep turning the camera off and on, and does a camera powered in this way drain the car battery? I have the cable at home, but I'm afraid to plug it into the new car. I don't want to connect it via the obd2 port which is directly connected to the car control unit. It didn't destroy the car due to a short circuit or overload and didn't jeopardize the new car warranty.

OBD is not meant for constant power and should never ever be used as a power source unless you want electrical issues, which can cost you thousands of dollars.

OBD port was never designed for this kind of current draw. Think again before you do this!

Don't. The obd port is for a temporary diagnostic connection only, not a permanent install. Use a fuse tap and run off the radio fuse or other high amp/current fuse like the cig lighter/12v. You can thus still keep the wires hidden. Ideally you want an always on supply with a battery saver if you want 24/7 recording otherwise run from an accessories powered only supply.

Bad idea for lots of reasons, but the big problem is if that is a cheap Chinese unit, it could really screw up your vehicles electrical systems

Don't do it. You will regret it when your mechanic tells you it will cost thousands of dollars to replace computer modules that overheated from constant power from the OBD port.
