Don't ever let anything drag you down Joe. As an old dude (40+) who has been playing since revised, I've quit Magic a few times. When I got back into it due to my buds getting into EDH, I looked for great content and found you guys. Keep up the great content and have a safe and fun new years boys.
Feel like this is an obvious one but for anyone building the omnath cantrip deck, use the 2 and 3 color cycling lands before you go to the mono colored ones
Do you guys take suggestions for these? If so, here's one: Ich-Tekik and Sakashima partners deck but with Precursor Golem as the secret commander. The goal: tutor out precursor golem, then target golems with copy spells to make ludicrous numbers of them
I built a wierd voltron deck this week for a tourney we’re holding for our LGS containing Dargo/Falthis as commanders. As far as I saw, I’m the only one with those two as commanders! I got two decks up with it lol
I have two decklists on scryfall. One is an only evens deck with kenrith and the other is an only odds deck with Ramos. Rather than only having even or odd mana costs, the restriction is instead in the number of letters in each card's name. For instance, I can't run sol ring in the kenrith deck because it has 7 letters in the name and 7 is odd. Hyphens, commas, and apostrophes are not letters, so they do not affect the restrictions. The restrictions also apply to lands, so I run snow covered basics in place of the basics types that don't fit the restrictions ("snow covered" is 11 letters so that will change whether the name is an odd or even length.)
the talk about the comment section made me want to add to the positivity. Love your content and honestly can't believe how you are able to keep putting out daily content, I can't imagine the amount of work that goes in behind the scenes. Don't forget to take breaks! We certainly wouldn't mind a day or two off if you guys need it :)
I have a Jorn God of Winter lands untapping deck that I like quite a bit. It's not as cool as this one though since it's just about generating a lot of mana and dumping it into x spells and mana sinks, but if I ever decide to pivot into something new I'm definitely doing land auras.
Don't forget about Lifeline in Gyruda! Not a creature, but any clones that die from the legendary rule come back at end step. And thank you for that nightmare shepherd suggestion. Going straight into my gyruda deck asap
I have this awesome Kalamax voltron deck built around combat tricks. I just played it the other day and killed all three opponents one turn after another. It’s always fun to swing in with just a normal Kalamax and suddenly pump it +18/+18 with a Bounty of Might. Give him trample and the opponent is probably dead on commander damage. Even if you don’t have any pump spells in hand, just make a deal with an opponent “hey I’ll let you do this to me if you let me hit you with Kalamax for 5” then you cast Hunters Insight on Kalamax and draw 10 cards. The deck is not very consistent, but when it goes off it really goes off.
True story: in a similar vein, one of my (very fun) decks had a moment where Keleth, Sunmane Familiar, who is a horse, was Riding the Dilu Horse, giving him horsemanship, with Paladin Class in play. So what we had is an experienced horseman, who happens to be a horse, riding a horse, with horsemanship. I'm still laughing about that one.
I tried using Hope of Ghirapur as a commander for voltron, didn't really do a whole lot.. the one time I won was when I generated a ton of tokens to swing out with (tokens subtheme on attack)
i have a ghirapur deck that is mainly a voltron deck but also has ways to tutor for and cheat out eldrazi/blightsteel colossus/etc if voltron isnt working.
yeahhh i made one once didn't do much except for in a 1v1 situation (my friends and i don't often all get together so a large majority of the edh i play is1v1) someitmes you got lucky and popped off but it was kinda boring for me
I'm about to complete my "Beledros Hecatomb" deck. Gameplan is to ramp out swamps, tutor for hecatomb, then kill everything with said swamps. Dragon does the untapping. Gonna be so much fun I hope, last batch of cards on the way so will be bringing it to battle on the NN discord soon!!
The most wonderful thing about Garth is that you can cast any of his token spells on opponents' turns as if they had flash as verified on MTGO. It's wild and I love my Garth Commander deck!
I hadn't thought about going back to Kaldra after Sakashima being printed yet which is awesome because I had made that "legend rule doesn't apply" dck in the past to make tons of kaldra tokens. This should be much better. Thanks!
Recently I've been brewing a Minn, Wily Illusionist deck with like 10 non-permanent spells so I could take the most advantage of the illusion death trigger.
Don't worry about them negative reviews. You guys ROCK I love your content! I work a ton and when I get home to relax this content is what I relax too. Keep it rolling!
I constantly have a desire to brew decks, but this video just sent an idea to the forefront of my brain. I want to pick one or two (if two, probably related) of my favorite lores/stories from Magic history and build a deck completely around that theme. Not just "I'll only use cards in Theros to make a Theros theme deck," but instead have almost every card be relevant to the stories I'm trying to tell... Very Vorthos.
HEY! i already made a gyruda mill deck and it's super fun (though everyone at the table sighs in exasperation when i bust it out). the star of the deck is Mortuary because when you clone gyruda the clone gets sent to the graveyard before gyruda's ability activates because of legend rule, but because of mortuary it gets sent to the top of your deck which then gets put back onto the field when gyruda finally triggers, literally only need one clone and gyruda if you have mortuary out, just add some gravehate like leyline of the void or dauthi voidwalker to deal with eldrazi titans.
Here's a unique deck I made. It plays every Godzilla card from Ikoria (plus the Mechagodzilla special edition of Hangerback Walker). It's a five color mutate deck that uses Surgeon General Commander in the command zone.
I am currently making a Garth deck where it's focused on giving my opponents creature tokens with all the janky cards that do that and then play massacre wurm, rampaging ferrocidon, , insurrection, rakdos charm and board wipes with the blood artist and poison tip archer type effects to kill the opponents. One of the most fun unique deck I have ever played.
Hey long time tribe scout here. I love you guys as much as I can without making you uncomfortable while also being anon. You guys do great. Make good video. I really enjoyed the rapid card graphics chain as you were spitting some dope card names.
Happy New Year’s Nitpicking Nerds! Love your tidbit section, and I wanted to leave you a “nice” comment to try and offset any of the troll’s negative ones! Love you both and keep up the good work!!
I also have a dumb deck idea: Wild Pair + Sawtooth Loon and similar effects. Basically you always double your ETB abilities with creatures that either return themselves to the library, or tuck them there yourself with other effects. It's super silly and fragile, but seems like a fun idea.
Kwende, Pride of Femeref is a fun one for the Gwyn deck. A lot of Knights have first strike, and then Kwende says “actually, now it’s double strike.” Also I think the card Valor gives your dudes first strike if it’s in the graveyard and you’ve got a Plains? So that’s fun.
I wanted to mention that I really like the content both of you create. The banter between you two makes me laugh all the time. All the best in the New Year!
Dude I love this series because my brain is constantly making deck ideas and as a result I have built (and kept) around 60 decks now. (I think I’ve only dismantled 3-4 decks this past almost decade). It sounds like a lot to most but I cycle through then pretty regularly. I usually have like 5-6 decks that I’ll cycle through at a time and nothing ever gets stale. The other great thing is I don’t go out of my way for duplicates. If I open one in a pack then great I’ll keep it but cards like smothering tithe or doubling season for example, are only in 3 decks each because that’s all I own. So it makes my phuk-ton of decks spread out all the top tier staples that way not one deck is loaded with them all. It leaves me room for MORE creativity while keeping the power level more in the range I want. So it makes me REALLY think about which decks actually benefit the BEST from those staples like smothering or double season. ❤️the content as usual. Happy holidays to everyone 🎄🎁.
Btw, I think sacrificing the mountains thing is a flavor thing? Because it’s like mountains turning into volcanoes, scaring the land for the power of it? Maybe?
My Xanathar deck is the "Open Play" deck, its hilarious in multiplayer because I often help players get to their plays and do what they do but better, the meme is strong with that deck
Cool ideas! What do you think about Tomer's (GoldfishCommander) idea of 2-in-1 decks? Basically you have 2 double colored decks that share core color (like Simic & Ghruul). Both of the decks have similar theme, but with different twist. His were: Hallar & Verazol kicker decks. I know it's not always possible to do something like that (I'm considering doing landfall Simic[Aesi, sea monsters] & Selesnya[Karametra, weenies]).
So, not super original but what about 4 color devotion? Basically you play all of the reasonable devotion cards and a shitton of hybrid mana cards (for example the lords from lorwyn. Those work great with all the token generation devotion gives you) PS: non-red
I'm in the process of optimizing my Zegana Counters Matter deck. Lots of hydras and stuff that plays off +1's, with Simic Ascendancy and the Ozolith. Also threw in Body of Research which is neat to cast right before Zegana with Lab Man or WotS Jace. If I can't draw out for the win, I still end up with an obscenely huge commander or metric F-ton of counters to put on something else.
Using Gyruda as the companion in a 5 color deck is the only way to fly. You get to run the more interesting clone cards like Delina and Progenitor Mimic, and if you have any fun 5 color jank ideas (like running Docksides and Temur Sabertooth) you can win before milling out...
12:00, I’ve always wanted to just make a thematic Civilization/ Settlers of Catan themed deck with just real things in it, I’ve collected cards for it but never put it together cause of how weak it is lol. Same thing with Portal Three Kingdoms, all the synergy is in the name of cards not actual gameplay. I like how you incorporated GOOD cards based on sayings, while I’m cramming Shu Grain Caravan with Bartered Cow.
for the sword of deck you guys forgot to mention the problably best tutor. fighter class tutors for one and makes all the swords free to equip on lvl 2. and as an addes bonus can act as repeatable removal. awesome card.
I love me some swords of blank and blank. I have a Rograkh and Ardenn deck all about big equipment. I find it cool that I basically don't need any red sources of mana in the entire deck because of Rograkhs casting cost being 0.
To spice things up, my playgroup has tried a few different ideas. Before we had so many great uncommon legendaries with partner, we tried building decks that were purely made out of commons and uncommons. We also tried no-banlist decks but quickly scrapped the idea because we were worried of how degenerate it could be. Lately I've started building with more Companions and feel that's a good place to start with adding some creativity to my deck building. So far I've got Kenrith/Zirda and I might try to build this again but with a different commander as Kenrith feels way too easy. I've also got Nethroi/Kaheera as a weird mutate/nightmare/cast/beast tribal deck. The First Sliver/Jegantha has been interesting mostly because it doesn't feel too different from the last sliver deck I built but some of the good card draw/tribal cards have double green or double blue in their cost. I just finished Wrexial/Gyruda and went with a sub-theme of clones because it looked like so much fun and I wanted to rekindle the fun I had playing Gyruda when Companions were first released.
Yay! My Gyruda...one of my favorite & strongest decks...was essentially described here to a T, haha. Bonus includes: Thassa's Oracle & Dread Return. I don't run Tainted Pact or Demonic Consultation...but Oracle & Return are a fun "safety valve" that can both be played from you're GY once you've milled yourself out (or close)
sold me on the mountain thing also i have a deck that is swords/kaldra/vecna to create the ultimate voltron helmed by akiri/tymna. one game i assembled vecna, equipped kaldra compleat to it while it was also holding swords for lethal its very fun and can be high power with fast mana/tutors
Another card for the sacrifice mountain deck is Glacial Crevasses, which is an enchantment for 2R that says sacrifice a snow covered mountain to fog, it's very funny
I know the atraxa deck is goofy. But I only just realized that chitterspitter might actually be good in a +1 counter build. Make a new squirrel every turn for counters to be put on and they get bigger and bigger every turn
With the tidbit: I personally really appreciate that you cultivate the comment section. It's looked down upon on some parts of the internet "oh snowflakes can't take a joke! Grow up babies" but like I don't wanna have to see someone slinging insults needlessly when I was looking for other deck ideas people left down in the comments. It's so easy to not be a jerk, and when they face consequences for their choices, for some reason they play victim. *Accept people for who they are, don't discriminate, don't be toxic and people might like you more* it's simple as, and I'm so sick and tired of the fact that we have to reiterate it all the time and get insulted when we won't tolerate someone not following basic principles.
I got a Torbran deck which is actually a Chandra fanboy Deck. The deck is playing 12 Chandra's and multiple ways to protect them. And my other deck is build around Adrix and Nev and it is an upkeep matters Deck. Both Decks are super funny to play.
Do drones count as helicopters? I know that smugglers use drones to drop small caches of drugs or other supplies across borders. I'd say that counts, since even though they're unmanned, they're still basically helicopters as far as function goes.
I love obscure/weird/quirky/janky deck ideas, but I feel like half the fun is coming up with your OWN. I need to get off RUclips for a minute, take a bunch of mushrooms, and find my own unique jank.
I love make funky and strange decks. These are my favorites. Some of mine Sakashima + Akroma clones deck. Just make a bunch of Akroma's clones. Phage the Untouchable deck. These are always wacky as hell. A Chandra's tribal deck. Just chandras and some support. A Saheeli the Gifted no-land deck (only artifact lands, of course). A gamble: if you have a good start, you can put a Kozilek in the field at turn 2, and play half of your deck at turn 7. Xantcha political deck. Just take the worst cards in the game (like Rust Elemental) and give them to your opponents. A Sarulf or Child of Alara deck.
I love my zaxara deck that only runs like 3 x spells. I built it around ultimatum so I can find vorinclex, a planeswalker, and an extra turn spell. I constantly try to change what the deck tries to do, from stealing creatures and spells or planeswalker tokens
I had the untap land deck idea years ago for a band enchantment pillow fort deck lead by Estrid but I never did it. I think up a lot of deck ideas and start some of them but rarely completely follow through ... because of new ideas lol
Mountain matters deck inspired me to build a 5 color land type matters deck where I use cards that say lands are every type and then run the best mountain, island, swamp, plains and forest matters cards. I can’t find a good commander for the deck though, any suggestions?
I've been debating about a Tana/X (either Ishai, Ikra or Ravos) Mutate deck - Tana/Ishai being sorta Tron mutate, With Ravos being options for Recursion and offering the cool Black Mutate cards with Ikra being more of a go wide token and sort of life gain theme, mutating onto things that make more of themself like Scute Swarm, Biowaste Ooze and Dreadfast Demon.
my most unique deck is like.. Knight tribal but its magecraft adventure spam but it's aristocrats in disguise. Commander is Extus, Oriq Overlord so i can just loop my stuff constantly. My playgroup hates how long my turns take
As someone who has this exact Gyruda deck strategy, I'd recommend blinks (multi-target especially) and Torrential Gearhulk. Hitting Gearhulk off Gyruda ETB, Ghostly Flicker in graveyard gets flashback for 0 mana, repeat over and over with different blink spells. Blinks also help with dodging removal and Gearhulk can also grab counterspells / removal from the graveyard when you need it. Also you can use Nightmare Shepherd's trigger on your commander when it dies (in this respect it's better than Mikaeus). Let Gyruda go to graveyard, choose to exile it, then instead of it going to exile you send Gyruda to command zone. You get a 1/1 token Gyruda and original is still in command zone.
Ok, ok, ok... how have I not heard that they were continuing my FAVORITE series of novels made series by Jeff Lindsay... DEXTER Also, spicy deck concepts
Zur mind over connection is busted because it’s makes yawgmoth’s bargain effectively legal, just that you don’t gain card advantage except it does if you have some graveyard concerns.
I didn't see a mention of Urza's Saga in that land tapping deck. The trick to keep it around forever is have Thespian Stage become a copy of it until it gains it's second ability, then copy a basic mountain to something before you have to sacrifice it. You'll have a mountain that can tap to make constructs!
@@NitpickingNerds No, it will not be sacrificed. The sacrifice condition for sagas is "If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isn’t the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Saga’s controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesn’t use the stack.", which is 3 from the saga. There is no rule that states that sagas without lore counters should be sacrificed
Thanks for the inspiration, I've made a deck now that has Horizontal Cycles in it. :P As in, to be added into the deck it needs to be part of a Horizontal Cycle.

Loved this, guys! And it worked - How about a "Whenever an opponent" deck where all the cards care about opponents doing things? Happy New Year!
I built an Amareth deck that centered around cascade.. it's pretty clunky, but can be fun when it does the thing.
Very solid comment!
Btw this was your most entertaining video I've watched from you 😃
Keep on going, guys 😊
I got a Torbran deck which is actually a Chandra fanboy Deck. The deck is playing 12 Chandra's and multiple ways to protect them. And my other deck is build around Adrix and Nev and it is an upkeep matters Deck. Both Decks are super funny to play.
Is there a link to these decks? Specifically the sword of deck?
I have a Gyruda deck!!! He is one of my fav commanders! I buffed it by throwing in Dead Eye Navigator and threw my Secret Liar Jin Gitaxis
A winch is machine that allows you to wind and unwind a cable, or a rope. Most common one would probably be on a tow truck.
I love make funky and strange decks. These are my favorites. Some of mine
Sakashima + Akroma clones deck.
That Kaldra deck sounds so funny. I might just give it a try some day. Forgot to comment this last time haha
For play open, I also like the idea of the top deck also being revealed, for some trolling
Enjoyed this episode. Good stuff.
NEW NITPICKING NERDS VIDEO!
INDEED!
Love the fresh deck ideas!
I might have missed when you dudes said this, but when/where/how do I watch Shuffle/Scuffle?
That enchanting lands deck looks really unique and really fun.
Wow, the Gyruda and Kaldra decks sound so fun
Mountain matters deck inspired me to build a 5 color land type matters deck where I use cards that say lands are every type and then run the best mountain, island, swamp, plains and forest matters cards. I can’t find a good commander for the deck though, any suggestions?
I had a Damia all open deck, got me painted archenemy everytime. Still was fun.
Mystical Poop Magic Forest Spell
3G
Sorcery
Search your library for up to two basic forests and put them into play tapped. Skip your next untap step.
Ok, ok, ok... how have I not heard that they were continuing my FAVORITE series of novels made series by Jeff Lindsay... DEXTER
Also, spicy deck concepts
Zur mind over connection is busted because it’s makes yawgmoth’s bargain effectively legal, just that you don’t gain card advantage except it does if you have some graveyard concerns.
This video was cool, good job guys :D
I took out 5 drops from my syr gwyn deck and it made the deck feel much more streamlined.
I think Boros Mountain deck with Toggo & Akiri will be more fun. Glacial Crevasses is cool, BTW.
What does you guys think about a Kenrith Experience counter deck?
Don't forget Robe of Stars in Syr Gwyn. Save those swords from destruction.
If thespian stage copies saga and has no counters on then it will sacrifice
@@NitpickingNerds No, it will not be sacrificed. The sacrifice condition for sagas is
"If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isn’t the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Saga’s controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesn’t use the stack.", which is 3 from the saga. There is no rule that states that sagas without lore counters should be sacrificed
@@jukknevalainen well then 😅
For the Cantrip Deck I recoment Ominos seas and skred for the mountains
Awesome jank. I'm actually in the midst of making a toralf mountains matters deck myself. Also a winch is a hoist if that helps
Er ma gerd I've been thinking about building a "Commander Matters" deck as of late with 5-color Sisay! You guys gave me some more ideas for that 😁
Thanks for the inspiration, I've made a deck now that has Horizontal Cycles in it. :P As in, to be added into the deck it needs to be part of a Horizontal Cycle.
I'd add a green partner to the mountains deck to add a scapeshift aspect to it and more consistent land searching
Happy new year boys. Love and Magic from Germany. CYA 2022 Peace out.
Hilarious that they steer away from staples but go right to them in the Syr Gwyn deck, ironic!!
Where's the love for the filibuster counters??! By far my favourite bizarre counter in magic.
Good to know birthdays are still being enjoyed on a daily basis thanks to NN
Looking forward to seeing mountains matters on Shuffle Scuffle!
What was the honourary Will Joe mentioned? I just keep hearing "Drowniggies"???
The video I've literally been craving to find for about a week or so now 😫 😩
After the epilogue to that video, I really want the "nitpicking nerds roast me" section now for some reason
