Thank you! That's a Lenovo Slim 7 ProX. It's a generation or two old now, but still holding up great! They were at a crazy discount from Costco when I got it 🤪
I'm a huge fan of alternative operating systems (or I was a couple years ago, and have since then mostly given up on them), and also a huge GW2 fan who has been playing it non-stop since shortly after it was released. I really enjoyed this video, even though I have a good gaming PC, as well as a decent gaming laptop with a discrete video card, to play GW2 away from home. It's good to know that there are so many options for playing GW2 still available, even though Arenanet gave up on supporting a Mac client for the game. I'll keep this video in mind if I get fed up with Microsoft & Windows, and decide to try to live with only Linux some time in the future. Right now GW2 and my long time use of my CAD program of choice are the only two reasons I use a Windows computer.
Yeah, at first installing Fedora on my laptop was just a fun experiement. Now I'm at the point where if it weren't for BlishHUD, I would be running it full time on my desktop as well. My desktop is basically only for GW2 and video editing anyway!
oh my god!!! they have discontinued apple support just a month or two after i have purchased some fancy package and i've been playing in it with my third 80 lvl character and i've been sad ever since! thank you, this is just wonderful
and i've just tried it and it worked like a charm! thank you so much! three years, three years (!) i've been waiting for a solution and here it is. this is just wonderful!
It's probably possible to get it to actually start and run, and maybe even be playable on absolute minimum settings, but honestly I think the actual overall experience would be better using a streaming service like GeForce Now
It actually runs pretty well! That was my husband's MacBook Air, but he still usually uses Parsec or GeForceNow rather than running it natively anyway.
Ps: do you have an idea how I as an MacBook user (Air, M1) could use blish or TacO? Currently I’m playing with GeForce (Steam) and as far as I know there is no way to install these “mods” there.
TaCO should work because it's a DLL that gets rendered in the game, like arcdps, but people have reported mixed success with arc on macOS too. Blish is iffy on Linux, and that's WITH the comically powerful customization that KDE offers for window management, so I wouldn't count on it anytime soon :(
Hey.. if you don't mind. I am not new to macs just new to Whisky/crossover. So GW2 with whiskty.. Metel HUD/Metal trace? ignore? Only question I have thanks mate.
If those are what I think they are, you should be able to leave them off. Metal is Apple's graphics library, like DirectX on Windows, so I think those toggles are just for if you want a HUD and logging for diagnostics info.
I have been thinking to switch to Linux just because Windows sucks more and more. I really dislike the integration of AI. If I want to use ChatGPT I will use ChatGPT. Leave me alone with data protection, it's already too late for me. I had Facebook and such.
That's pretty much why I switched, at least on my laptop. I got sick of constantly being "sold" something, whether it was CoPilot attempting to collect data, OneDrive popups, or constant ads and reminders for Microsoft services every time it updated. My desktop is still on Windows 11, because I pretty much only use it for gaming and video production. If BlishHUD worked properly in Linux, I would have already switched!
Bro literally made the video I need now just 3 weeks ago, Thanks! Keep it up, as the video quality was great too.
Ok. I actually visualized you literally bending the technology to your will. It checks out!
I already tried installing both on linux and mac in the past, but had no idea about Whisky!!! Awesome video, always something new to learn!
Man I'm shocked at gw2 running on Android, good job man, as always
The first time I got to the login screen I said "holy shit" out loud, I need to be better about recording the "process" with stuff like this!
Thanks for the video. I'm curious, what is the laptop you are using at 13:12? That's slick looking.

used the whiskey method for my 2021 macbook pro and it worked like a charm, so easy to do with your clear explanations. Thanks !
Glad it worked for you!

Thank you now I can play this game ans so many others. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped you, thank you!
Works great. 40-50 fps in LA on ultra details on base model M4 Mac Mini.
The newer M-chips are crazy powerful, even in the base model!
Great video man!! Thanks so much!
Thank you!
Does Whisky work for GW1 on an MacAir m3 as well?
I haven't tried but I bet it would!
For the newer m3/m4 macbook pros, do you recommend crossover or whiskey?
I had a way better experience with Whisky, definitely recommend!
My gw2 stuck in Initialization
I have a MacBook Air from 2015, do you think I’d still be able to run gw2? If so what would be the best option in this video??
It's probably possible to get it to actually start and run, and maybe even be playable on absolute minimum settings, but honestly I think the actual overall experience would be better using a streaming service like GeForce Now
Will definitely use this if I can ever get my Apple-loving bf to play GW2 with me

This video deserves 300000 views
Glad someone appreciates running convoluted software on completely inappropriate hardware!
Thank you kind sir
Oh man, I was so hyped until you mentioned the Steam-problems. I’m already regretting my gw-steam account but this makes it even worse. 😂

@@avoxtr I will look into TacO and update you here! Thanks for the help
Intelmacs haven’t really been a thing in while tho
Apple started transitioning to ARM in only 2020, so still plenty of Intel Macs in use today!
Mate.. AWESOME! This is what I needed.. sorry didn't clap :) haha..

Dude look like the generic char character 🔥
Or you can just have a machine with a ripped version of Win7 or Win10 , without any MS BS on them. Easy peasy.
Sure, but where's the challenge in that?
