We do mostly requests driven episodes. What the majority are asking for at a given time is often what we will do. This effect can't be done practically without looking really bad. When something calls for practical we will use that, it's what is best for the given idea. We have some ideas soon that may use some special effects instead of visual.
I agree as well, but at the same time, they have to make videos for those who are more advanced in film making. They have to appeal to both sides of their subscribers. I miss the basic stuff as well, but how are we going to grow as film makers if we don't learn more advanced techniques?

I find it extremly funny how when Ryan makes a lot of practical stuff everyone is like "" dude , you've changed ! we can't continue our reletionship this way ! You're not the same anymore ! I miss Film Riot ! '' , but when he starts to go back to the roots and starts to do a lot of VFX people are again like '' Dude. . You've changed , we want more of the practical stuff '' . You guys are ridiculous , throw advices ,but don't be silly and let Ryan do whatever he thinks is right .

I remember about 5 or 6 years ago, Ryan did a pilot of filmriot called "Minisode" or "Mini-episode" on their channel TriuneFilms. I remember well the episode wich is explaining how to make a day for night effect. It turns out we used that technic when I was studying in cinema, it was very handy! However, I'm glad FilmRiot and Ryan continues the show and produces others like Variant, Film State and Pimp Your Production.
I think I know what you mean. Seeing it action is fantastic, but I'd like a little more explanation of what the settings actually accomplish and how the values affect them. To be fair, a lot of that can be researched, but finding a balance of both sides would be phenomenal.

I 100% agree. I emailed FilmRiot to do a fight scene with multiple people tutorial, because it's practical and it is a very complex, but overlooked stunt. I know he did "The Fight Choreography Of Losses", but more people means more safety, camera angles, and execution, WITHOUT SHAKING THE CAMERA. Plus, the last fight scene they did WAS "Losses". And sound effects that are royalty free would top it off (It's a bonus of course), because his punch sound effects are fantastic:)
