Great video. In case anyone wanted to know, the numbers for the wiggle command mean the frequency of the wiggle and the magnitude of the wiggle respectively. So you can play around with the numbers that work best for your individual shot!
First, I thought the part where Josh got shot was hilarious! Second, I think it's awesome that you took the time to respond to so many comments on this video! Not many people have time or a reason to do that, but it shows that you care about us and take extra steps to connect with your viewers!
Who would dislike this video? Best one you guys have done in a bit. I see 9 people who need a mouse trap snapped on their money bags. Good to see you guys focus on effects again, and love the humor (as always).
Film Riot Ryan real nice man, you hit the hammer right on the head, Teleportation effect freakin amazing, and the look on Emily's face each time - priceless, I was laughing like crazy man, alright see ya on the next episode...
I love how Ryan always makes unique ways for the sponsor section to be presentated. Not many RUclipsrs who are like FilmRiot, that's why I love them so.
I love the tweaks to the show that have been showing up lately - this was one of the best episodes in a while, and the amount of time you put in really shows! Great work guys and girl(s?)
I can't believe people complaining about the comedy. That's the main reason I watch. Nothing better than to learn and have a laugh. This episode was great. I love Film Riot's style of comedy. You never know what to expect. That religious music was brilliant.
I`m 14 years old and i come from switzerland. I do not understand everything what you say but i watch the show since i`m 11 and your show inspire me every Monday and every Thursday. I`m sure that not all in this mail is correctly written but i hope you will understand it. Stay the way you are. Thanks for 5 amazing years!
ryan you've leveled up. you've always been amazing, fun, entertaining, but ever sense the camera comparison videos last week. I don't know, I feel like you leveled up :D in math terms: awesome times more cubed equals level up...ryan wants to learn flamethrower (pokemon refrense)
thanks for being thankful :D when u respond to me, I go dance somewhere for 23 seconds XD thank you for being you, growing in awesomeness, teaching us on the way, and taking us with you
You guys are literally my favorite channel on RUclips. You are such an inspiration to me, and I really can't wait to start using some of the stuff that I have learned from you in my videos. p.s. would you ever consider doing an episode about creating cool titles? The titles that you guys make are amazing, and I would love to know how to do that. Thanks! p.s.s You guys always have the best possible music!
So, I'm suuuuuper late to the party, and I just found this episode-but I can't finish it. I just keep rewinding the church revival fan question. I really want to learn how to teleport people, but I can't.stop.rewinding. You guys are a treasure.
I just used this for a video, right now the latest upload, and it was super fun to edit, which I could only manage, because of you guys. You are AWESOME! Your channel is so super entertaining and so very educational at the same time. Thank you so much! 👍
I don't know why people are hating. This episode was so informative, and the comedy kept it fresh and exciting. THIS is how Film Riot used to be back in the day. Missed this! GREAT FREAKING EPISODE!!!! Hell Yeah!
I like that you keep the camera rolling when you film the shot. I know that Don Coscarelli used a similar method for the first "Phantasm" film in 1979. The scene where we see a box fade in and out of existence on a table in front of the character of Michael in the scene where he goes to visit the fortune teller uses this. When it came to such dissolves prior to the film, the director noticed how the footage would freeze, and how the whenever it came to films prior to, the cross dissolve didn't look right because the actors were off in holding their position (because it was done in two separate takes instead of one). In the audio commentary, Coscarelli said that he learned that the best thing to do was to keep the camera rolling, filming the scene before and after the transition in one take, place the box in the spot where it was needed (or remove it when it comes to the end of the scene), and then use a cross dissolve in post-production to make it look like the box was really coming in and out of existence, keeping the actors in the same position long enough to keep their position matched from the start to the end of the transition.
Not at all. I say in the episode that you don't have to use that asset. You can use anything that is a puff of smoke type asset, or make it yourself with particle plugins.
Awesome tutorial! This seems like one of the more simpler effects and a great way to be introduced to AE. Also, does anyone have a running total on how many times Emily has killed Josh? It's gotta be over 100+ times now. You know what, how many times has she killed everyone!? haha
They way they try to make the video sort of a comedy completely ruins it. Your material is interesting enough, you don't it to drag it out in a poor attempt of being funny.
MonsieurPapito You can be an interesting host without attempting to be funny. Entertainment does not equal comedy. Anyway if you like this show as it is, well, it's all better for you I suppose.
You must be new here... All I can say to a comment like this is: You might want to stop watching now. This is us, we are idiots that like to have fun with what we do... Always have been, always will be.
Its amazing how such a cool (and what sounds like should be a very complicated) effect is actually so simple to pull off. I remember a few years ago when i had little editing experience i tried to make a teleporting effect using a method similar to how you just explained, but thought 'no this is too simple, it has to be more difficult'. Thanks for proving it doesn't take a load of super-duper fancy flashy skills to create such VFX, just the know-how and sense to make something believable! :D The simplest effects are often the most effective! :D
The song at 1:56 was worth the price of admission alone. Now, I don't usually go for flamboyant, over the top Americanisms , but I feel in this instance a load "Hell Yeah!!!" followed by an exuberant "THAT WAS EPIC!" is justified. Well done.
Hey ryan, I was experimenting with this effect and found that if you have a small, 3 frame opacity change between the first clip and the clean plate it looks really cool, just syain.
Wow I really thought the song was real (the question accompanied by video) but then i read the question and its was perfectly put out. You got me Film Riot!
Hey Ryan, at 0:50 when Josh teleported through the window we are able to see the trees' movements being cut, are there anyways in which we can prevent this from happening?
I'm very happy to see an awesome sketch and the "religious" reading like the days of yore. Don't know why people complaining about the added comedy? Filmriot's unique personality is what separates this show from the crowd. The majority of us are watching because we want to be entertaining in our films. The sketches and personality teach so much more than just the explanations of how to do something. They teach that "write, shoot, edit, repeat" isn't just some cool mantra for a T-shirt (which it is cool), But an actual philosophy to live by for indie, nay, all types of filmmakers. To see a sketch almost every week, whether the comedy lands for people or not, shows this philosophy being practiced and inspires us all to get out there and do something. To end this rant, Thank you for being "YOU" and giving us filmriot. Also enjoyed the re-hash of an episode that you guys already did. I wonder if that could be something that happens more often? Go into the Filmriot vault and take a concept that was already explained but with the 5 years of wisdom you can teach it better utilizing more efficient methods?
Great tutorial! I love how when he gets shot even though it sound like the guy ran away to call a ambulance the camera is still shaking as if he is filming. Loved the tutorial just a small error i noticed that is not even a big deal in this case.
Yes. I just love this show way too much. Thank you as always for these awesome tutorials FR crew. I'm in a huge film-making mood right now for some reason. Who needs film school anyways!?:)
"He didn't doge it" out of all of the funny quotes from film riot that's my favorite.
Dodge ;DD*
I know right, lol😂😂😂
It's been years but I still come back to this tutorial for a great camera shake combination. So for my reference in the future it is @ 7:24
"He didn't dodge it..." **blank stare**
😂👍
+Jono Pedersen me
lol
6:02 i laughed harder at this
Nice touch with the wiggle expression and the digital pan.
Omg, you’re famous!
That teleportation skit is probably one of my favourite Film Riot skits.
Great video. In case anyone wanted to know, the numbers for the wiggle command mean the frequency of the wiggle and the magnitude of the wiggle respectively. So you can play around with the numbers that work best for your individual shot!
For people who don't know what film riot is, this title would be really confusing...
haha. True. I like this.
At least it doesn't involve a fly in anyway ;)
Omg that religious song almost killed me, it was that funny.
:)
I second that. And besides the hilariousness of it all... those are some serious singing chops, whoever recorded it. Spot on.
First, I thought the part where Josh got shot was hilarious! Second, I think it's awesome that you took the time to respond to so many comments on this video! Not many people have time or a reason to do that, but it shows that you care about us and take extra steps to connect with your viewers!
Thanks Jared! We try our best. Some times we just don't have any free time. Which is always a bummer. Love interacting with you guys.
I love the new "visual branding" of Film Riot. The new style of bumpers and overall themes are just really neat and bold! Nice work!
In the "Window transfer" test, you can see the cut with the sudden cut of the leaves outside.
NukeML simple fix: just duplicate your footage and mask the leaves and have them no jump cut and your done
I know this comment was 2 years ago but still. Don't be a hater.
The wiggle for the handheld cameria effect is what sold me the trick, i was so confused on how you could do that with out a tripod.
Emily vs Josh. Super speed vs teleportation.
totally super speed
But I don't know how to do it
Jalil LeDoux SUPERSPEED
WHAT THE NAME SONG 2:09
I really love the new layout.(the new bumpers for stuff like the difficulty level)
Thank you sir. We are excited about them too. :)
This is probably the best way to end a day spent solely watching movie b-roll. From the on-set experience, to post. Damn it Film Riot, you sexy.
Who would dislike this video? Best one you guys have done in a bit. I see 9 people who need a mouse trap snapped on their money bags.
Good to see you guys focus on effects again, and love the humor (as always).
Wait was Auris editing FilmState on that PC?!?! 6:04
Nope. That was Variant (our other show)
Film Riot Ryan real nice man, you hit the hammer right on the head, Teleportation effect freakin amazing, and the look on Emily's face each time - priceless, I was laughing like crazy man, alright see ya on the next episode...
using the anchor point for the wiggle expression works really well, thanks ryan!
Happy to help.
I sometimes motion track my handheld shot.
hey ryan you have Inspired me to make youtube videos, thanks
I love how Ryan always makes unique ways for the sponsor section to be presentated. Not many RUclipsrs who are like FilmRiot, that's why I love them so.
And we love you! :)
That Gospel song OMG! Amazing
I love the tweaks to the show that have been showing up lately - this was one of the best episodes in a while, and the amount of time you put in really shows! Great work guys and girl(s?)
I kinda have to use this effect in the near future. *_*
It's so much fun.
This was the best episode of Film Riot I have ever seen! I was laughing half the show! They have gotten much better; keep it up :)
HAHAHA! the religious song cracked me up! Made my day. Thanks!
I can't believe people complaining about the comedy. That's the main reason I watch. Nothing better than to learn and have a laugh. This episode was great. I love Film Riot's style of comedy. You never know what to expect. That religious music was brilliant.
I seriously thought it would be more difficult to do. Great demonstration
I`m 14 years old and i come from switzerland. I do not understand everything what you say but i watch the show since i`m 11 and your show inspire me every Monday and every Thursday. I`m sure that not all in this mail is correctly written but i hope you will understand it. Stay the way you are. Thanks for 5 amazing years!
this short has a very portal-like feel to it.
I like it ^~^
That was a piece of the inspiration.
Every Thursday and Monday I get so excited for you!
ryan you've leveled up. you've always been amazing, fun, entertaining, but ever sense the camera comparison videos last week. I don't know, I feel like you leveled up :D in math terms: awesome times more cubed equals level up...ryan wants to learn flamethrower (pokemon refrense)
Thanks man. We've had some extra time lately, so we are trying to take Film Riot up a notch. So happy it shows! You made my day man, thanks.
thanks for being thankful :D when u respond to me, I go dance somewhere for 23 seconds XD thank you for being you, growing in awesomeness, teaching us on the way, and taking us with you
I truly can't get over how awesome and clean this looks, really makes me wish I achieved teleport effects differently in particular films of mine!
Hey Ryan! Can you do telekinetic effects and make it look real like stuff we see in the movie chronicle?
I'll give it some thought.
Film Riot haha thanks for responding to both my comments, and good luck :)
This is too brilliant. I love you, Film Riot!
... (I love you so much, Ryan, Josh, Arris
Awesome episode as always! I actually put this tutorial into use and made my own short film from it!
I watched your film! It was actually really good! :)
MassiveCook4 Thank you very much!
RebelX Productions cool short film
I have been watching Film Riot for a long, long time, and I have to say I think that was the funniest opening sketch out of all of them!
Please make Ryan's squealing scream a ringtone available in you Triune store!!!!! Please! Haha
HAHAHAHA
Seriously... I love it sooo much :)
Definitely one of the better episodes in a while. Great job Film Riot
Emily is really talented and funny as well. Not to mention, you two too. ;)
RY! Could you do a effect for wings? Like just wings on a person. Maybe flying too!
Damn that was a *really good episode* that even had an sketch, the VFX good-ness is *back*!
Ha! Love it. I've been looking for an easy way to do that. Thanks!!! The humor is good too. Makes it more entertaining while I learn stuffs. :)
Love film riot.
Thanks Marc. Very glad to hear that!
So, I'm suuuuuper late to the party, and I just found this episode-but I can't finish it. I just keep rewinding the church revival fan question. I really want to learn how to teleport people, but I can't.stop.rewinding. You guys are a treasure.
Awesome digital handheld. Can't wait to try those...er...wiggledigits :)
Wiggle wiggle wiggle *starts whistling*
Film Riot I am so high right now. BAMMIE WHAM!
Your best episode until now!!!
Who else was thinking of Nightcrawler with the teleportation and smoke? :-D
I just used this for a video, right now the latest upload, and it was super fun to edit, which I could only manage, because of you guys. You are AWESOME! Your channel is so super entertaining and so very educational at the same time. Thank you so much! 👍
Emily just shot him with a blank stare lol.
Love the Triune Films animation at the end. Seems like the show went through some revamping. LOVE IT! Gives me the jitters every time!
Items needed:
-Tripod, yep
-Compositing software, yep
-The love of a good woman... Well looks like I'm not doing this effect!
I don't know why people are hating. This episode was so informative, and the comedy kept it fresh and exciting. THIS is how Film Riot used to be back in the day. Missed this! GREAT FREAKING EPISODE!!!! Hell Yeah!
OMFG WHO WAS SINGING !!?

Cool effect but if we dont have shockwave what are we suppose to do? its simmple and effective but it needs shockwave.
That's true but you can expect everything to be free. I am sure you can figure out something from what they showed.
Not at all. I say in the episode that you don't have to use that asset. You can use anything that is a puff of smoke type asset, or make it yourself with particle plugins.
is there a boom mic at 9:55? Or a film maker coat rack?
Did anyone else got the "Hey Ry" son stuck in their head?
Yes!
Awesome tutorial! This seems like one of the more simpler effects and a great way to be introduced to AE. Also, does anyone have a running total on how many times Emily has killed Josh? It's gotta be over 100+ times now. You know what, how many times has she killed everyone!? haha
I just need to say something, its really hard to follow what your doing your to fast. :(
yep
AliAAmirali same
Everything about this is amazing
They way they try to make the video sort of a comedy completely ruins it.
Your material is interesting enough, you don't it to drag it out in a poor attempt of being funny.
how come I find you here?
MonsieurPapito You can be an interesting host without attempting to be funny. Entertainment does not equal comedy. Anyway if you like this show as it is, well, it's all better for you I suppose.
You must be new here... All I can say to a comment like this is: You might want to stop watching now. This is us, we are idiots that like to have fun with what we do... Always have been, always will be.
MonsieurPapito Bingo.
Worked pretty well for them for 5 years methinks :D
7:25
WTF, EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO CHECK
MAN, WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT
G O D
Gotta say that the way Josh and Emily interact will always be hilarious and amazing.
1:42 I love you Ryan....
For the wiggle expression part, there is a tray that lets you customize everything if you want to do it exactly the way you want.
Film Riot and Videocopilot goodness... mmmmmm tastes good.
definitely one of the greatest episodes in the large part of a long while.
also, EMILY'S BACK! YAY :)
I watched the reading of the email so many times. cant get enough of it.
This = One of the best episodes yet! Love the new look!
Its amazing how such a cool (and what sounds like should be a very complicated) effect is actually so simple to pull off. I like how as soon as you read “bullet dodge” you know exactly how it’s going to end, yet it’s still so damn fun when it happens
The song at 1:56 was worth the price of admission alone.
Now, I don't usually go for flamboyant, over the top Americanisms , but I feel in this instance a load "Hell Yeah!!!" followed by an exuberant "THAT WAS EPIC!" is justified.
Well done.
This looks awesome! Haven't watched it yet, but the title sounds awesome! PS Ryan, You are so AWESOME! Been waiting all day for this.
was the guy on the right on 9:10 supporting the dutch national soccerteam?
love the throwback to one of the old sponsors
:)
I agree with loads of the other comments, that this is one of the best film riot episodes!!!!
Thanks!
I EXPLODED with a smile from that religious reading of the message! best youtube channel EVAR
Wow this effect is awesome! I think the camera movements added a lot to the finished product.
that wiggle command is brilliant!! I now know what my videos have been missing this whole time.
I love Film Riot, i been following it since the first day that i decided to become a film maker. Thanks Film Riot for everything. :)
Hey ryan, I was experimenting with this effect and found that if you have a small, 3 frame opacity change between the first clip and the clean plate it looks really cool, just syain.
Who have the teleporting sound effect please (like at 0:29, 0:50 and 1:06).
Wow I really thought the song was real (the question accompanied by video) but then i read the question and its was perfectly put out. You got me Film Riot!
Ryan, the way you sang that letter was glorious.
I can't get over how great the screams are at about 1:30 'till it stops... I laugh EVERY TIME! hahaha
Two teleportation episodes on film riot: both times Ryan has screamed uncontrollably
Hey Ryan, at 0:50 when Josh teleported through the window we are able to see the trees' movements being cut, are there anyways in which we can prevent this from happening?
"he didn't dodge it", freaking hilarious.
I sincerely admire the extra effort and time you put into the first question. SO worth it!! I'm laughing my ass off!!
:)
Best episode in a very long time. You guys went balls to the floor on this one...

I think that is my favorite sketch you guys have ever done xD That was BEAUTIFUL xD I'm definitely going to have to use this effect in a sketch soon!
Great tutorial! I love how when he gets shot even though it sound like the guy ran away to call a ambulance the camera is still shaking as if he is filming. Loved the tutorial just a small error i noticed that is not even a big deal in this case.
Hysterical Ryan always cracks me up! He should totally do animated character voices
oh ryan, this whole show was brilliant
Hi Ryan!!!

Thanks man! So happy to hear the show is helping you.
That digital shake technique is a game changer! Thanks Ryan!
