I believe we'll see another era like that in the future as the world deglobalizes. That era existed through Japanese and American co-prosperity. Our nations still maintain complimentary industrial bases and practices but China has sucked up a lot of industrial demand. I'm Japanese music listener and I think this translating is so nice. Although rewriting the lyrics on another language is really hard, this lyrics not only give me a nealy original atmosphere but also rhymes in the end of some phrases(Japanese doesn't have rhyming practice like a English). This is not literal translation, but very nice as song's lyrics.

It makes me so happy that people enjoy this cover so! This song means a lot for me and it's one of my favorite of my covers, so seeing people still discovering it and saying they like it lifts my spirits lots!
It's quite rare for me to come across an English cover that meets and blends well with the original track without rushing or dragging. Usually since the lyrics were already written with a specific tune and beat in mind, that means translating it necessitates stretching or condensing many words and making it quite cumbersome. This fits snugly with the track and it's a superb and wholesome experience. You've made a masterpiece among English translation, friend.
As a fluent Japanese speaker and a city pop geek, I absolutely love this translation. I think it’s important, when translating two alien languages-like English and Japanese-that it’s important to deliver the same intent. Also, I’m so glad you stuck to the same vocal quality as Mariya-Sama. I think modern pop singers soup up vocals waaay too much, and the original intent of the author gets lost. Your attempt to stick to her melody is spot on and gives a nice treat.
This translation is so impressive, must have been super difficult to preserve the lines' themes, melodies, and rhymes from such a fundamentally differently structured language
The biggest secret in plain sight. My recommendations were no help since I've been listening to this song all along anyways. It wasn't until I saw Irys singing Renai Circulation until it hit me like a rock.
yeah it's all start with me found clip of irys even though iam late XD. well the clip suddenly got into my youtube recomendation when i open my youtube and first thing i said is WAIT A MINUTE🤣
I've been listening to the "official" Renai Circulation since 6th grade, I am in absolute disbelief that a certain someone sang it AND that it was a cover all along... I am in shock rn.
As a Japanese listener, this translation is not precise, but more importantly this lyrics capture the tune's atmosphere and provide magnificent rhyme in the first place. No one can do the good job like this!
The videos should have put a disclaimer, proper translations ENG-JP are not smooth sounding due to the grammar. Your comment is on point tho, the atmosphere/mood, rythm and broad sense is preserved. If the song was initially written in english this could be the definitive version. I'm wondering if the vocals from the original song was edited out or is the song available in Voice-OFF version somewhere.
@@ariathyf144 Wikipedia says a Karaoke version of Plastic Love was featured in a special edition of the album Variety, so that might be the base for this cover (I'm not sure though)
Honestly I think direct translations tend to suck. Translating stuff (especially lyrics & literature) involves more than just changing words from one language to another; you also have to take care to translate ideas from the source language into a way that makes sense in the target language. Sometimes that means not being precise with the wording.
As you can't really do a precise translation without completely ruining the rhythm etc. This is a pretty good one, at least from what I know of the original lyrics. You have it spot on, not perfect translation but as good as can be given the challenges.
I saw a comment mentioning that this exact translation was played in Akihabara and since I'm studying abroad in Japan I decided to have a look around and guess what...... IT'S ACTUALLY TRUE!! It's so cool to hear this song in what I believe is the Otaku capital of the world. Good work and much love 👍♥♥♥
@@whitelotus6230 if you intend to work/live in japan or in a japanese company, then yes, learning japanese is quite useful. otherwise, it is a waste of time to learn japanese.
I love how you didn't try to use a literal translation and were courageous enough to take some artistic liberty while still keeping the intentions of the original lyrics. Well done.
if youre into other japanese songs, many other people do english covers like that! it really is fun to see singers' different takes on the focus of the song
The Hollanesian there is at least one part in the original lyrics that is much darker and grimmer than this, but I still love the added lightness that this version brings. I absolutely love the original, but those few lines that were changed here are so depressing in the original.
Most of the beest English song dubs are that: Japanese and English are just too different when it comes to diction for a direct and accurate translations to work well for songs. Accurate translations are great for stuff like written stories and subtitles, but for songs where melody and rhyme are important it's best to just remake the lyrics to better fit.
You're a superb singer, but you're a hella good lyricist. Not only is your translation solid and natural, the lyrics match the rhythmic flow flawlessly. I swear you even picked words whose consonants and vowel shapes matched the original lyrics as much as possible. It's a work of art! Truly impressive!
yes because she rewrite it, but more or less keeping the same meaning of the original song, so she didnt just blatantly singing the translated lyrics. thats why this cover is gold!
Yep. Same thing happens with video games. They're localized, to make sense to the audience. A 1:1 translation rarely works out when it comes to eastern < - > western languages.
*Irony:* When Mariya Takeuchi wrote this song, she had recently gotten married to Tatsuro Yamashita, the pioneer of City-Pop who has produced all her albums from 1984 on. She's still married to him today (2021)

Have to say, I expected another amateur and half-done attempt at this classic song (like so much of RUclips's "artists") But no, your production value is high, you paid SO MUCH attention to the originals vocal inflections, style, and swag of the song that its damn right impressive. Subed.
I've never heard any other English cover of this song, so this is what I was expecting. (I assumed it was an official English release before reading the description and comments).
I’m having a legitimate crisis because I can’t figure out if this sounds as good as the original or better. IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE IT’S MARIYA BUT IN ENGLISH.
Andre Vasquez that’s interesting. I absolutely love the original, but having the chance to understand the lyrics makes me connect to the song more. And I do mean that she hits the notes very similarly to the actual singer, it’s very well made.
@@MrFrankcap The meat of the dish is the _I'm just playing games_ bit, because she absolutely, *absolutely* nailed the way, tone, breathing and pacing of the last phrases (not to mention production), to the point where it's _completely indistinguishable_ from the original. I'm usually really hesitant about these dubbed songs because for some reason they feel off compared to the original ones. But this, this is done perfectly. I'm not even exaggerating this is perfect. This is a dub done right. Not many are out there like this.
I think because the singer knows and understands how the song was meant to be sang and how the fans of the original expect it to be sang. A lot of dubs the singer wants to try to use it as a platform to show off some vocal talent by adding a bunch of frills and gaudy trash to the vocal melody. This artist stayed very true to the source material.
Yeah. This cover does an insanely good job doing justice to the original. I can definitely feel the same emotions Mariya put into her lyrics. It doesn't even surprise me one bit some people thought this was Mariya herself doing an English version. Easily one of the best dubs I've ever heard.
Agreed. I compared this English rendition with the original lyrics and I can say for sure, it is quite an impressive paraphrasing she did -- able make good rhymes while keeping the same rhythm and most importantly --staying close to the original lyrics. All I can do is applause. A very good job.

This is one of the most faithful English covers I've ever heard. It keeps the original meaning of the song and the transliterated English lyrics do not alter it any way. And Caitlin's voice actually sounds reasonably similar to Mariya-san. It is almost like I'm listening to an English cover by Mariya-san. This is truly the peak of English song covers. It's simply beautiful.
I'd buy it. Bandcamp, kickstarter, patreon. I'm new to your channel, but that's how much I love your cover of this song, and how much I think your voice would suit city pop
Something old is discovered and feels new again. Then it's made into a new version that sounds like something old, nostalgic. Two generations singing in duet.
This is a fantastic cover. You did a great job on translating the lyrics while retaining the songs tempo, not to mention how well you emulated the vocals of the original. 10/10 would be recommended by RUclips again
I listen to the original of plastic love. And I got hooked. However when I listen to the English version. Not only it kept me dancing, but the tempo and the flow is very impressive. I will add this to my favorite list. Also I love how you blend your voice and the singer together that's a very best touch.
Wow, Caitlin did an amazing job on the lyrics too. Anybody that translates the original song knows that how slow the words come out. Just translating them into English wouldn't fit the rhythm but here shew manages to fill out and extend the simple lines of the original and construct it to be more full. And everything flows well, the words, the synonyms and still rhymes. This is genius at work, and she managed to be on key and hit every dynamic 100%. I would be surprised if she hasn't made any originals yet (Yes I am new and don't if she does or not). She clearly has the talent to do so.
Thank you for your high praise! I haven't made originals under my own name yet, but I actually did sorta write one a few days ago - no idea if I'll produce it since I'm still fairly new to writing melodies and such, but I'd like to do more of it! I do have a Japanese idol themed group called "Interlunium" where we only make original music: ruclips.net/user/Interlunium I have one solo, Blue Moon Blue Ocean, available in English and Japanese with my voice, and in Korean by another vocalist. I didn't write the lyrics for it, though :) Thanks for your interest in my channel, I hope you'll check out my other works and stick around!
@@minacapella8319 They aren't. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if these were the actual lyrics in English. I hope Mariya actually covers this version because she'll probably be like "yeah this is exactly what I was saying". :)
Underneath this beautiful tune, a tale of a young girl, turned cynical by the betrayal of her true love, now she roams the night with no faith in love, not believing such a thing is even possible or real, instead playing with men’s hearts, playing with them like he played with her’s, as if to have some form of payback for the pain he caused her, but in reality her heart weeps in pain, broken and cracked, she no longer believes in real love...to her love is fake, untrue, to her...love is nothing but cheap plastic.
King True can't really say we deserve it. I mean since when is it right to give a bad kid that is the human race the equivalent of the physical incarnation of perfection itself?

people have said it's not as sad as the original
Out of the glimpse of my eye I thought your long comment was suppose to be lyrics. So my dumbass read the first 2 lines in tune with the song 🤦♂️
Ahhh this means so much to hear ToT thank you for your kind words

I'm just amazed by the fact that exist in fact self-proclaimed city pop geeks.

This translation is so impressive, must have been super difficult to preserve the lines' themes, melodies, and rhymes from such a fundamentally differently structured language
coming from someone who translates lyrics, its so hard. so shes gets the upmost respect from me
I was thinking the same thing!
This song had a lot of potential, even the RUclips subtitles had some good lyrics for my language and they almost got the beat perfectly

Yeah, its an unusually long intro. Its alright though, cuz I love the grooves in the beat =)
Its the extended version that's why

It isn't actually that long. Plastic Lover uploaded some radio edit made by someone years after the song released
Just fucking did this I feel so stupid.
I think it’s because Japanese doesn’t translate to English well. But I still enjoy the effort

Hollow vows, even promises broken: every face and voice brings memories of you
Glassy eyes shedding tears of my sorrow, hoping they will forget by tomorrow
Praying no one’s asking for the reason.

"You want it all readable all over where?" "YES"
Me listening to it in Japanese: *jams aggressively*
Me listening to it in English: *cry's aggressively*
I definitely felt this 😭

I perceived its sadness even just listening in Japanese and without knowing the language.

A relatable comment
Dawg she has returned. She is singing this right now!!!
Japanese- Oh man this is my jam! 😎
English- Oh wow I’m all depressed now 😭
That was my first thought listening to it, i assumed the song was a positive one
royce lanham it sad but good
Depressed? Its a great song mate, you wanna feel depressed listen to Asleep by The Smiths, now THATS a depressing song.
Sexual Tyrannosaurus lol ok m8
It probably wasn't all that hard to guess if it was a sad song. It's called 'Plastic Love' (fake love).
It sounds like REAL Mariya Takeuchi learned English. This is not a simple cover, You studied her voice and intention thoroughly.
The real Mariya actually did study abroad in USA for a year (Illinois of all places), that's why her English sounds a bit cleaner in her own recordings
Thank you for info
she actually does speak English, quite well in fact. There's a recent documentary about her where she goes abroad
Look for Mariya singing a cover of the Beatles, "Let it be"
This is *the* definitive English version of this song. One of the best and most creative covers and translations I’ve ever heard. To me this is just as good as the original. And from an English perspective, it’s even better, IMO. It is so elegantly and beautifully sung and written. I can’t just listen to the original without listening to this version as well. Bravo!
honestly, this could be a high budget official english cover and it wouldn't be any better
@@thatoneguy1426 Agreed. This is so sooo good!
Hmm... this hit me hard
not just the beautiful voice and the great song
but also, the realization :))
Is it weird that I love both this version and the original? is this two timing?
you're just playing games, you should know that's plastic listening
Might as well have fun, listen to every single one.
Keep listening until another morning comes!
BLESS THIS COMMENT SECTION!

Is it just me or the Spotify version sounds different? Lol. I prefer this version tbh.
Did you tap the cowboy bebop dub team for this...?
It’s perfect.
Awesome comment
Wow, what a blast from the past, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here. Glad to see she’s moved into yet another great horizon. Fly high jailbird! 🎼 𓅂
