Just made this toothpaste for the 2nd time and I will never go back to store bought! My teeth have never felt cleaner! I also make a homemade mouthwash. Here are the ingredients:
    2 cups warm filtered water
    2 tsp. Baking soda
    1.5 Oz. Birch sugar (Xylitol)
10-12 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil.
Stir until all is dissolved and store in a glass jar with lid.
You could probably try Cinnamon essential oil also!

I make this and then hubby and I use about a Tbs. of peroxide and swish that in our mouth after flossing, then brush our teeth with this recipe. We have been cavity free for over 35 years and we love it. Not to mention the fact that it is chemical free and much cheaper than store bought tooth paste. :)

I love your videos. I just made the toothpaste. My mouth felt clean after using it. I like it. The Xylitol did make it grainy, but I can live with that. I wonder for next time if I can make the granules more like powder so not so grainy. Thank you so much for your videos.

@patriciaDiStefano what you can do so it's not so grainy... is blend the xylitol in your blender and it'll come out like powder xylitol :-)

Mine was grainy also. I did my own calcium carbonate. Boiled the shells for 10 minutes, then baked at 200° for 10 minutes, crushed and ground them in a coffee grinder. Looked like powder but wasn't fine enough. Is the one you use like a flour type powder?? This was for my 8 year old grandson that is allergic to so many things. Wanted to do something special for him. Thank you !! Love your recipes like this.!!

Care should be taken when using too much Xylitol, as it may have a laxative effect.
Caution should also be used when using Calcium Carbonate dust, as it can cause irritation of the eyes, nose, mucous membranes, and skin.
Calcium Carbonate has a variety of side effects which includes the following swelling, rapid weight gain, high levels of calcium in the blood, nausea, vomiting, constipation, increased thirst or urination, muscle weakness, bone pain, confusion, lack of energy, or fatigue.

    • @sandiec6063
