Hi there. Great video! I skimmed a few others of yours as well. I fly real world airplanes and helicopters, and have dabbled in aerobatics in the Pitts, and now have access to a Great Lakes. But while I do fly my annual check rides/training in full motion Flight Safety sims, I haven’t flown a PC sim since MS Flight Sim 2004 and haven’t done any gaming really either. Needing a new laptop again, I thought I’d see how far this stuff has come. I’m super impressed! How realistic (aside from lack of g) do you feel the aerobatics is, particularly in the rudder/yaw? How about landing, just as challenging? Will the tail draggers like the Pitts ground loop if landed poorly? With the VR, can you use the sight gage on the horizon for precise verticals? If so, which would be the best setup for acro training, MS Flight sim 2020? Acro FS? Something else? Still thinking the G2 is the best to pair with? Again, thanks, great video!
Hi thanks for your comments it's always great to have real world pilots watching these videos! VR has really moved the game forward and would be perfect for aerobatic flying since you have a greater sense of perception and situational awareness. The G2 is a great headset although tends to lack in field of view (something I'd imagine would be very important for this type of flying).
When you mention render scale, which render scale are you talking about and have set to, the one in the sim graphics settings or the openvr or both? What do you generally run each at? Im finding with the 3080, roughly 80% in sim and 70% in openxr seems to work "ok" with medium to high settings in VR graphics, though depends on craft
I have an oculus 2,and I'm happy with it. I DO need to get a new video card to make this a better experience for me... But yes. Flying in VR. It's the only way to fly (if you can't t do it in real life)
I am playing this on my 3080 / 5900x, and I can get it up to 70-80 render resolution smoothly, all the way upto 90 even out in the field, without using custom render resolution in places where there are not many buildings. In new york it starts stuttering and cutting out even down to 50 and all I see are flashes of blue screen. Trying to figure out what the issue is.

@@TheHexperience Thanks I have managed to get the Try tool to work and indeed the 30 fps with AWS makes the best performance, super sampling at 1.9-2.0 and scale rendering between 60-70 for my 1080 ti. I tend to only fly the small GA and like to see the instruments. I have to yet play about with large areas where there are multiple buildings but it is moving in the right direction.
Rift s has lower screen resolution. But money for value, it's pretty good. In the end it really comes down to how many frames to can get out of your GPU at the headset resolution. A G2 would be wasted on my RTX 2060 (in some ways). I have a rift s and before I would upgrade to a G2, I'll upgrade my video card. The rift s, with 2x super sampling looks amazing, but I can't get enough fps in that mode.
Specifically this plane and type of area (no buildings and flat land) is the least taxing. Kinda cherrypicking. Using a(ny) different plane drops the fps especially when flying inmore sophisticated areas (especially with cities that have AI generated buildings). There is still a long way to go... but it’s a start.
True 72 or 90hz is impossible with FS2020. Maybe top of the line systems can, but I'm quite sure most of us can't. This means ASW is required to make it somewhat payable in VR. In my experience the VR in FS2020 is fine if you fly airliners, looking around is fine and smooth. But as soon as you start quick rolling the aircraft, ASW starts to show and it becomes unacceptable glitchy. I fly IL-2 and Condor (gliders) and it works really well, but have given up on FS2020 VR as I'm not so much a level flight person.

I mention this in the vid
@@VRFlightSimGuy yep you did thanks ;)
rift s performs is the same as g2 in msfs 2020?
Rift s has lower screen resolution. But money for value, it's pretty good. In the end it really comes down to how many frames to can get out of your GPU at the headset resolution. A G2 would be wasted on my RTX 2060 (in some ways). I have a rift s and before I would upgrade to a G2, I'll upgrade my video card. The rift s, with 2x super sampling looks amazing, but I can't get enough fps in that mode.
I uploaded that video of running at mostly ultra.
I can get it to 35-40 FPS on my quest 2 and it still isn’t smooth... WTF?
I'm having the same issues. The headset refresh rate drops to 30 Hz when it is supposed to display 90 Hz.
Are you using oculus tray tool with ASW turned on?
True 72 or 90hz is impossible with FS2020. Maybe top of the line systems can, but I'm quite sure most of us can't. This means ASW is required to make it somewhat payable in VR. In my experience the VR in FS2020 is fine if you fly airliners, looking around is fine and smooth. But as soon as you start quick rolling the aircraft, ASW starts to show and it becomes unacceptable glitchy. I fly IL-2 and Condor (gliders) and it works really well, but have given up on FS2020 VR as I'm not so much a level flight person.
@@TheHexperience Yes, tried all of that. Intel Core i5 9400F Six-Core CPU, NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB GPU, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4
I wanna play this so bad but i have to wait for windows to update to version 20h2 and then i can update my flight sim beacuse otherwise it keeps resetting the download on the second file it will get to maybe 10% and then start over i got the first file done no problem if anyone knows a fix to this so i can update my sim please lmk
Fingers crossed you'll get in the air soon
Are you downloading over wifi or ethernet ?
MSFS updates are notorious for resetting over wifi so if that's the case plug it a cable temporarily.
Im downloading over wifi its my only option i dont have a router i use a wifi hotspot on my phone
@@kelleebarton6500 That sucks, I would suggest taking your PC to a friend or relatives house to do the download but what with the human malware that's not a good idea at the moment.
I had a similar problem with that Windows update. I downloaded the external Microsoft updater und downloaded that update with that tool. Fixed that issue for me. Just google Windows 20h2 download and you will find a link to the Microsoft support page where you can download that tool.
Ahahahahah 1080ti and the word "SMOOTH" in VR... always make me laugh.
What update??
I think he means from beta to release version.
@@TheHexperience o ok 👌 🤪
@@TheDigitalFlight yeah, I had a bit of a panic at that comment from him as well.. "I missed an update that gives 50% improvement?!"
