NOTE: Do not get just the LCD without the frame, get it WITH the frame and you will thank me later! Because the LCD is glued into the frame and it's a bitch taking it out.
Thank you. I replaced the battery but the power button stopped working. In watching this video I see that the button ribbon cable might have been dislodged from the connector and sure enough after removing the tape it was. I thought it was the snap connector to the motherboard but the flash worked so thinking it was a bad cable. So any way. Thank you it was a simple fix.
That back cover pries off. There is a notch and little tabs that click to hold it. The notch is on the bottom left if you are looking at the back of the phone. I have a Moto X Play. Maybe the pure is different. I was able to get mine opened with my fingernail and I clipped them just yesterday.
+Serge Cooper on the USA variant it has the solder points on the main board for the contacts for a second sim reader to be installed on, however does not have the second sim reader contacts soldered onto the board.
+Steffler any 3m cell phone adhesive which is sold on ebay or online should work, or you can just purchase one of the back covers on ebay with the adhesive on it already
Hi! great video, but I wonder if you can point me out which is the module for the microphone. The thing is that my XT1575 has the microphone broken, so I need to replace it. Is it welded or just attached to the board?, thanks!
the mic's would be the gold square shaped ones which are soldered onto the board. The main one you speak into would be the on toward bottom of the phone
Try using a t5 or t6 and see if that will work. If its really stripped then you will need to get a drill with a small bit small enough to fit into the screw and drill into it to break the top of the screw head off.
+Jonathan Martin There also needs to be a second sim reader soldered onto its slot on the board next to the first one. So by just prying off the plastic and installing the sim , it won't work.
I've lost my gyroscope (if that's what they call it) from a drop into water. I've tried a couple applications of denatured alcohol until I saw that I discolored the screen from it running over it in streaks. after a couple of days the discoloration has almost entirely faded but it may never clear up completely. Can you tell me where the gyroscope is located and if it can be replaced, also where to buy? Thanks.
I replaced the screen of my cellphone but when i turn it on it freezes on the power screen. Sometimes it gets past the homescreen but it freezes again and restarts. Do you know where I messed up? Is it fixable? Thanks!
did you damage the board by any chance? only thing I can think of would be either the new part is defective and shorting or you may need to do a hard reset/factory reset
I damaged it a little bit because i forgot to remove the screw on the left of the camera. So there is a screw sized hole t here. Might that be it? If thats it I am pretty much screwed, right? I am gonna try reconnecting everything again and doing a factory reset thoough. Thank you very much!
ya no problem, the main board is the green board when you take it apart, if you damaged the back housing where the screw is, it should have no effect on the phone, just as long as you didn't damage the green main board inside.
+Javier Elaskar The accents (in red) can be removed off the speakers since they are held on with adhesive, but the actual speaker mesh cant, since its from underneath the screen
+pwrdbykyank Yes, I meant the accents, It's just English isn't my native language and I didn't know how to call them. With your video I got courage and I'm going to replace my screen, just ordered a screen module a couple days ago. Thank you for the video and for taking your time to answer me!
+KZJ0 I haven't seen if the different backs are easier to remove compared to the standard ones, but aside from getting that back cover off, if you have the right tools, and watch the video, should be fairly easy to do.
Hi pwrdbykyank on the minute 8.03 you let loose a component that has an adhesive cable, i manage to do everything but that cable lost it's stickyness, do you know the name and where i could buy it? kind regards Matt
Hi, it doesn't require it to be adhered down to function, so you can leave it as is. If its bothering you, you can just apple double sided tape or adhesive. It looks like it is the touch screen digitizer cable. If its not damaged or torn, just use double sided tape or adhesive to stick it back down. Replacing it would mean replacing the touch screen.
what are your thoughts on swapping in a different battery? e.g.- droid turbo battery w/ qi wireless charging. possible, impossible, unknown? any chance we can have the dimensions of the battery and connectors? thank you for your awesome disassembly video man.
+kit costantino There are a couple things that would be a problem. One would be the connect on the turbo is at a different angle than on this, so I don't think you would be able to twist the flex cable to turn that way without tearing it. Second the shape of the battery is a square and most likely would require modification of the back housing to make it fit inside it. If you were able to bypass those obstacles then there is still the chance the phone will not recognize the battery and just pop up a battery icon with a ? mark through it. However I used the turbo before using this device, and I honestly think this ones battery has been lasting me much longer than the turbo was lasting me. Even with the fact this has a larger screen and so forth. As for the Qi charging, it would not be possible to use the one off the turbo since that coil on the battery needs somewhere to plug into where the moto x pure does not have on its board for it to be plugged into. The only mod I can see working for this would be the dual sim slot. Since the board has the solder points on the board underneath the shield covering the sim slot, one could technically solder on the sim reader onto its designated slot, giving the board dual sim access. Since the international version I'm assuming has dual sim (the US version sim tray has the dual sim slot, there's just a plastic tab covering it).
you're almost right on it. one, the tape prevents shorting out in the event a ribbon becomes free... people have strange accidents and if conducive, foreign materials found their way in... two, just the obvious purpose of holding them in place, but also including the possibilities of chaffing damage to the ribbon. in my time as an electronics technician, I've only ever seen one case where chaffing damage would have occurred. A laptop screen repair/replace and the tape has become hazy from friction between the panel and the lid.
+Ernie Castillo thanks! Motorola should be selling the different backs after some time from what I herd but I could be wrong. I was told the backs would be $25-50 depending on style
Do not release the flatcable latch starting 4:30. It's unnecessary and only introduces risk. That flat cable belongs to the buttons and attaches to the top left cable, so just unplugging the top left cable is more than enough. I tried to unplug the little flex cable and now the little latch is off. Reseating it is impossible. It seems as if the guy in the video is opening the device for the first time and doing unnecessary steps.
I don't think so, but I could be wrong. From sample replacements I have seen, I'd have to say no since they have adhesive behind them also but its not really too hard. Once they become available online, you can buy them, pry off the one you have and attach the new one :)
+pwrdbykyank Thanks, I figured as much, I bought a black basic one (I had to go to the states to get it because they don't sell them here in Canada) and because of that, I couldn't do Moto Maker to pick the colours I wanted. I don't mind the black and grey, but was hoping i could replace them. I don't understand why they wouldn't just make it a clip on? Then you could order many backs, remove the need for a Sim Tray!
Yep not sure, but you still can replace it, instead of clip on its just held on with adhesive, pull the original one off, and buy a replacement one of your choice which I have seen a few on ebay, and reattach it. The new ones come with adhesive on the back already so you just apply it on the phone and your done.
+amberlampz If your referring to 2015 moto x play, it should be the same if not very similar to the tear down of the pure edition. Pure edition is just the US based while play was an international based model. Teardown/disassembly should be the same
Not much time spent into actually looking at the components of the phone like antenna prongs, how the speakers are connected etc and the focus on the camera is bad. Maybe do a write up with pics ?
+ChibiZone If your talking about onboard storage then no you can't replace it. The SD memory card if you had one thought (external storage) would be in your sim tray slot, you can pop that out with the sim popping tool that comes with the phone in the box.
+pwrdbykyank thanks for replying xD I did mean onboard internal storage. I was hoping to maybe swap out the entire piece that had the storage in the future if I needed extra space. thanks!
Yea its pretty much impossible. Its soldered onto the board and maybe if someone really knew all the workings of this specific motherboard, and had the skills, could potentially replace all the needed resistors and transistors and memory modules etc. to read more memory and so forth but yep its way out there lol.
some brand tools vary one size up or down, but I personally find it best to use one size up if you can fit it in the screw head perfectly so it wont strip. When its a T3 I tend to use a T4 for example since from my experience it does not strip the screws that way. Again tool brands can sometimes vary a bit.
Thnx for the video. I did it months ago yo replace the screen, Sincé that some sensors doesnt work properly like accelerometer, giroscopio and GPS, do you know where they are inside the board? Any help Will be welcome.. thanks in advance. Keep going forward
Hi, I'm not too sure where those are located, but I don't see why they would stop working unless you damaged a part of the board or chip. Try taking it apart and putting it back together and see if it works. Also check your settings maybe they have been disabled in settings.
I'm 90% sure they are exactly the same, I don't see why they would make them different. They are pretty much the same phone. Same like other moto phones which are the same phone just different branding in different parts of the world and only major difference is some one dual sim some single etc. but they use the same displays and so forth.
Hello, thank you so much for this video!! I want to buy an adhesive for my moto x pure edition. But I see that there are 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 5mm... How can I know which adhesive I need for my phone?
They are T4 torx screws. You can check this listing on ebay www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-UNLOCKED-MOTOROLA-MOTO-X-STYLE-XT1572-REPLACEMENT-COMPLETE-SCREW-SET-SCREWS/132966944815?hash=item1ef572902f:g:ZvEAAOSwzJ5XZE69:sc:USPSFirstClass!91352!US!-1
+Jazzy Rockur You need to remove the flash from the old LCD assembly you had and place it on the new one. Its just in the socket on the top corner, pull it out.
+Jazzy Rockur It has a 2 pin gold contact on the back that touched the motherboard to get power, If your referring to that yea you need to remove the flash with that intact. should just be that square piece with the flash on it.
Corban T. Oh yeah, when I did my repair it was actually really easy. The bamboo is actually pretty strong so you can sort of pull it off, but using a playing card for the most part is the best way. Just be gentle.
Does it have a provision to support dual sim ?. Please answer this question for many people around the world wanting to buy the pure and use it for dual sim And also that the Pure supports the bands in Asia, maybe not all 4G LTE though. The pure does have a 2nd sim slot but with a plastic piece covering it and in case we can remove that piece and insert another sim, then flash the Asian ROM, would it work. Asking this because the Style(Pure) here in India and Asia are overpriced and also do not come with any customisation and just black and white models.
+Nameisnot MyIdentity All I know is on the main board, there are the solder points for a second sim reader to be soldered into the slot next to the original sim reader. Also the sim tray has the slot for a second sim. But as far as if someone is to solder a second sim reader onto the main board if it will actually work, I'm not sure. Maybe the software would need to enable it also.
+pwrdbykyank thanks a lot for that bro... The software part can be handled to support it by flashing roms, but the hardware seems to be the problem, I mean the soldering thing... If the 2nd sim tray with a piece of plastic covered over it was an issue, that could be sorted but really the soldering into the inside to recognize this 2nd sim is a real problem maybe...
the back housing has the gold lines and contacts which touch the contacts on the main board for the antennas etc. Check and make sure those are clear of any dust and make sure none of those contacts on the board are broken.
Sorry, I don't have a tutorial on that, I would assume it is held down with adhesive so you would need to heat it up and pry it off, but I cant be certain
+Boma Jaja Thats true, the Moto X Pure is the Moto X Style internationally, the Moto X Play 2015 is the Droid Maxx 2. You can see the Droid Maxx 2 disassembly video we have to reference closer to the Moto X Play 2015
Great video. I just want to add my 2 cents on this process. I ordered the best kit I could off Amazon, with battery and tools, seemed nice. Here's the hard part of this. Its not the glue on the back, although that bad too. It's the screw heads strip out really easily. Of the twenty, I had 11 that would not come out. I ended up using a Dremel tool to grind the heads off. This was a NIGHTMARE. This phone has never been the same, and I will never, I mean never buy another Motorola. (Three of them all had issues, Samsung no issues seamless Bluetooth other apps work better Motorola is not the way to go). Why would anyone in there right mind secure the battery with twenty T4 screws with super soft heads? Perhaps they don't want you to change the battery? Hmmmm....
Hi, not all their phones have that many screws, but in future if you see the screw is stripping, use one size larger, for example if its a t4 use a t5 screwdriver I have found that to be very useful and prevent stripping. Also I personally have always used moto phones and loved them, I on the other hand hated any samsung phones I used, always died on me or would lag etc.
The trick is to use more downward force and straight down until you feel the screw break free that way you won't strip the head. Also, use a tempered steel T4 not a soft bit. I've done a few and never stripped one screw head and a few seemed cemented in.
+Fazil Ersath You might need to replace the charger port, It's soldered onto the motherboard so you would need soldering skills or take it to a repair shop that knows how to do it.
Not sure what you mean but it has a speaker on bottom and one on top, they claim it has a dual speaker for audio but neither speakers are directly on the outlets so the sound is somewhat directed through to the holes on the sides of the front outlets. The top speaker is used as a earphone speaker as well for phone calls
you can replace it, watch how to take it apart in the video then once you have the back frame off, you can pull the headphone jack out of its socket and replace it
Hello there. Please, can you tell me where can I buy a motherboard for this phone? Can I find it on Amazon? I'm from Serbia, but I have friends in the USA, so they can buy it for me. Please help me. Cheers mate.
+MrHollow And this is with fresh adhesive. When replacing your battery in 1.5 or 2 years, you'll likely see the adhesive spread all over most everything, due to occasional high temperature exposures.
If you are going to make a technical video for people who are not phone repairmen, you should make it technically accurate. The torx screw driver is a T3 not a T4. Back to the store.
It is accurate, use a T3 and you will strip your screws good luck. With these phones its best to use T4 and press down while unscrewing. I have had many people ask me how to open it when they stripped their screws using T3 and your left with using a drill bit to drill into the screw. Also keep in mind, using a professional phone tool kit is the way to go, those hardware store ones sometimes don't match up and are not meant to be used on phones. Just giving you a heads up in case you run into issues.
NOTE: Do not get just the LCD without the frame, get it WITH the frame and you will thank me later!
Because the LCD is glued into the frame and it's a bitch taking it out.
Thanks for the glimpse inside. I hope that front camera module re-seated itself when you put the battery layer back on.
+Brent Isaacs No problem, and yes it fits right in and sits in its place.
Where can I find the cover replacement? Maybe wooden ones
Your welcome, glad the video helped :)
Que destornillador usaste?

Reminds me of the htc one. A mess of a repair. Thanks for the video.
Nicely done, any chance you can tell if there was a 2nd connector for the sim card to make it dual sim?
+Serge Cooper on the USA variant it has the solder points on the main board for the contacts for a second sim reader to be installed on, however does not have the second sim reader contacts soldered onto the board.
What kind of adhesive do I need to reassembly the cover.. My phone fall of and I want to know if I can fix it by myself.
+Steffler any 3m cell phone adhesive which is sold on ebay or online should work, or you can just purchase one of the back covers on ebay with the adhesive on it already
+pwrdbykyank thanks for the data
no problem
search for xt1575 battery door on ebay and you should see a few listings. Not sure how many people are selling it might all be from the same person.
la batería del moto x play tiene las mismas medidas que la del style?
Hey great video. What kind of camera are you using ?
hi, where did you buy your screwdriver for motorola x style ? i can't find it thank you
is it possible to replace the headphone jack? the socket is just loose on the inside, so the jack does not make proper contact inside the hole
Hi! great video, but I wonder if you can point me out which is the module for the microphone. The thing is that my XT1575 has the microphone broken, so I need to replace it. Is it welded or just attached to the board?, thanks!
the mic's would be the gold square shaped ones which are soldered onto the board. The main one you speak into would be the on toward bottom of the phone
ok, thanks! I was hoping it is just attached not soldered onto the board, now I will need to take the phone to a technical service to do the job.
Two of the T-4's stripped on me. Any suggestions on how to get them out?
I tried a size bigger but it didn't help
Try using a t5 or t6 and see if that will work. If its really stripped then you will need to get a drill with a small bit small enough to fit into the screw and drill into it to break the top of the screw head off.
could you test prying off the sim 2 and see if it's usable?
+Jonathan Martin There also needs to be a second sim reader soldered onto its slot on the board next to the first one. So by just prying off the plastic and installing the sim , it won't work.
I've lost my gyroscope (if that's what they call it)

Thanks.

did you damage the board by any chance? only thing I can think of would be either the new part is defective and shorting or you may need to do a hard reset/factory reset

its the screw just to the right of the volume cable
I replaced the screen again and it seems to be working, there might have been something shorting.. Thanks again!
ya no problem, the main board is the green board when you take it apart, if you damaged the back housing where the screw is, it should have no effect on the phone, just as long as you didn't damage the green main board inside.
is it possible to remove the speaker grills from the screen?, because all the screen modules I've seen doesn't include them according to the images
Thank you for the video and for taking your time to answer me!
sounds good, no problem :)
+pwrdbykyank How come you didn't show how to swap out the accents?
the speaker accents are held on with adhesive, you would need to just pull it off. :)
Great video! Could you recommend a type of adhesive to use for this? Thanks :)
+Martijn van der Meulen new backs usually come with the adhesive pre-installed
can we use dual sim with this moto X when we get the rubber on the sim tray out?
you would also need to solder on the additional sim reader onto the slot on the board
Would you consider the battery replaceable for the average person?
+KZJ0 I haven't seen if the different backs are easier to remove compared to the standard ones, but aside from getting that back cover off, if you have the right tools, and watch the video, should be fairly easy to do.

+pwrdbykyank It does not, my (international) moto x style has the same plastic tab covering the second sim slot
Hello, you know whether to repair the sim card reader must change the motherboard?
Thanks
You would need to have some place professionally solder on a new sim reader since it's soldered onto the main board
Those tapes are for prevent static, right?
you're almost right on it.
one, the tape prevents shorting out in the event a ribbon becomes free... people have strange accidents and if conducive, foreign materials found their way in...

+amberlampz If your referring to 2015 moto x play, it should be the same if not very similar to the tear down of the pure edition. Pure edition is just the US based while play was an international based model. Teardown/disassembly should be the same
+pwrdbykyank Yes I was referring to the 2015 moto x play. Okay thanks for the info.
+amberlampz Actually reference to the Droid Maxx 2 disassembly we have, that would closer resemble the Moto X Play 2015
Not much time spent into actually looking at the components of the phone like antenna prongs, how the speakers are connected etc and the focus on the camera is bad.
Maybe do a write up with pics ?
whats up with the camera focus?
Is the battery soldered in or is it easily removable?
+Saed Matos It's not soldered on, you can remove it :)
Is it possible to replace the internal storage?

Rastreamento Veicular have you tried another display or made sure the connection on your display was secure? if so maybe the main board has issue
Hello, thank you so much for this video!!
I want to buy an adhesive for my moto x pure edition. But I see that there are 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 5mm... How can I know which adhesive I need for my phone?
most back covers come with the adhesive pre installed but I would go with the thinnest.
Thank you very much, you are awesome!
What type of screws for this phone? I broked my(

when I put on my new screen and frame it no longer has the front facing flash. how do you transfer it from the old one??
+Jazzy Rockur You need to remove the flash from the old LCD assembly you had and place it on the new one. Its just in the socket on the top corner, pull it out.
+pwrdbykyank thanks.. I'll give it a try. it looks as if it has some ribbon cables connected to it as well. should I be Careful not to tear those?

+pwrdbykyank thank you so much! it popped right out. great video very useful
no problem, thanks :)
does anyone know if this works the same way for the bamboo back?
Did you ever find the answer to this? Cause I just ordered a new screen for mine and want to replace it. Really don't wanna crack the bamboo tho.
Corban T. Oh yeah, when I did my repair it was actually really easy. The bamboo is actually pretty strong so you can sort of pull it off, but using a playing card for the most part is the best way. Just be gentle.
Thank you! I was looking everywhere for this!
Did you need to buy adhesive to reapply the cover?
Does it have a provision to support dual sim ?. Please answer this question for many people around the world wanting to buy the pure and use it for dual sim
And also that the Pure supports the bands in Asia, maybe not all 4G LTE though.
If the 2nd sim tray with a piece of plastic covered over it was an issue, that could be sorted but really the soldering into the inside to recognize this 2nd sim is a real problem maybe...
my WiFi stopped working. I slide the button on but I slides right back off. which part houses the WiFi radio if I'm gonna try to repair?
the back housing has the gold lines and contacts which touch the contacts on the main board for the antennas etc. Check and make sure those are clear of any dust and make sure none of those contacts on the board are broken.
thanks. It looks like I just gotta bite the bullet and heat the back up and peel it off to at least check it out.
Looks like part of my motherboard is stuck with the middle frame, so it doesn't come off! what should I do?
there is a black T4 screw on the board on one end, make sure to remove that so it allows you to separate it.
+pwrdbykyank yeah, I was missing it, thanks :D the screen I've purchased is without the frame! do you have a tutorial for it?
Sorry, I don't have a tutorial on that, I would assume it is held down with adhesive so you would need to heat it up and pry it off, but I cant be certain
hi, where is the microphone?
is this the same as the moto x play edition?
+Ethan Wane It should be the same if not very similar.
No its not, the Moto X Pure is known as the Moto X Style internationally...
+Boma Jaja Thats true, the Moto X Pure is the Moto X Style internationally, the Moto X Play 2015 is the Droid Maxx 2. You can see the Droid Maxx 2 disassembly video we have to reference closer to the Moto X Play 2015
I have Ghost Touch isssue in my moto x style , What should i Do
@@kfo2460 how do you change the charging port?
where is the antenna?
After seeing the teardown I'm sure Motorola could have packed a larger battery inside the Moto X Pure Edition.
Oh well.
I am sure they had some sort of odd reason.
Price cutting
I've done a few and never stripped one screw head and a few seemed cemented in.
my Moto x style is not a charge...I check the charger it is well...but doesn't charge my Moto x style... what can I do..????
+Fazil Ersath You might need to replace the charger port, It's soldered onto the motherboard so you would need soldering skills or take it to a repair shop that knows how to do it.
bottom speaker???
Not sure what you mean but it has a speaker on bottom and one on top, they claim it has a dual speaker for audio but neither speakers are directly on the outlets so the sound is somewhat directed through to the holes on the sides of the front outlets. The top speaker is used as a earphone speaker as well for phone calls
+pwrdbykyank thanks!
my headphone jack is damaged what should i do
you can replace it, watch how to take it apart in the video then once you have the back frame off, you can pull the headphone jack out of its socket and replace it
Hello there. Please, can you tell me where can I buy a motherboard for this phone? Can I find it on Amazon? I'm from Serbia, but I have friends in the USA, so they can buy it for me. Please help me. Cheers mate.
I'd say best bet would be to look on ebay
how do i attach the back cover again?
either use new 3m adhesive or buy a new back on ebay with adhesive already on it
Great
OH GOD this is horrible... why did they even glue the back panel to the battery? geez.
+MrHollow
And this is with fresh adhesive.
2810mah battery?!?! conman!!
ohnyeah, liked and subscriber
