Thanks for making this video! My Moto X Pure got ran over by an 18-wheeler Semi Truck and it shattered the screen in tiny pieces. Thanks to your video I got the phone back working again! 6 of the screws got stripped. For some reason the replacement screen wouldn't stay connected to the frame or body of the phone. I used some super glue around the outside of the screen and it seems to be holding it together! The display and touch screen is working like new again. I'll have to test the sound and I'm not sure if the front"Flash" will work but I'll test it out. I'm just surprised it survived being ran over on the interstate. The screen was shattered and I could feel the phone vibrate when I hit the power button, so I figured it could still be saved. Thanks again!
Many thanks for doing this. This is great and I managed to replace my broken screen by walking through the same steps in the video. I had zero trouble and the operation completed successfully. Thanks again.
The Moto X Pure that I have used T4 screws. The T5 was able to get some out, but with some stripping. Hopefully I will still be able to get it back together.
How did you get the stripped screws out? T4 just stripped half my screws, but like you, T5 worked for me on some. Now I've got half the screws that are completely stripped... :/
I thankfully only completely stripped 1 screw, I ended up using a drill and drilling it out, and just never replaced it. So now my phone has one missing screw but at least I have a working screen
This video is fabulous! Question: It seems like screen assembly replacements do NOT have a front-facing flash, but I have no idea how to transfer my flash from the cracked screen into the new assembly/screen. How can I get front-facing camera flash into my new screen replacement?
@how2Tech would there be any reason that the display would be slow at responding to touch after replacing? Loose cable? Or is the replacement display crap?
Honestly, the most difficult part of this seems to be getting the screws out without stripping them. I couldn't get two screws out and and to make a long story short, cracked the logic board. Like someone else has mentioned, the torque 4 screwdriver seemed to be a better choice than the T5. The T5 is what stripped the screws on my phone. Oh well, it's only money. Going to go look at that new Moto Z. :)
Hy, I would like to know if the soft keys have a different sensor on them, cause I own a moto x pure that had the screen replaced, but after some months the entire touch screen works but the three soft keys (home, back and recent). I was told by motorola that it is a hardware issue but on developer mode I can see that the touch screen reads my touches on the soft keys area, and also in the lock screen or on android auto I´m able to use that touch section just fine!!
when you order the LCD screen digitizer + frame assembly it does not come with the front speaker bars. I guess those are some kind of protective bars for when the phone is resting on its face then the audio can still emit? so I need see disassembly of lcd screen and bar assembly?
Thanks for sharing, excellente tutorial! I did it and i could replace the screen, but the accelerometer doesnt still work! Do you know where the accelerometer is in hardware? Because i would like to test the component and know if it is working or not!
Daniel Rios tbh I only strip five screws on mine luckily, but for the strip five, which were so tight attached gradually using the spudgers and similar prying tools in the video after many attempts separated the phone's middle frame from the screen without damaging motherboard ... I would use t3 to remove many of the screws ..
Daniel Rios I was able to get a stripped screw out by using a household repair glue (not super glue) that soft sets in 5 mins (and hard sets in 24hrs). I put a dab of it into the hole of the screw and waited a few minutes. The glue turned into a kind of rubber putty that filled in the hole. I was able to then carefully turn the screw with a T4. I guess I was lucky.
Thank you for this video! I really helped! Please help me to get understanding, I crashed 3 screwdrivers when replaced the display! What's name of this?
If my phone has a custom motomaker walnut back, can it be removed, and replaced without splitting or cracking, and what do you do about the adhesive? Can the original walnut back be put back on? Will it install as perfectly as the original installation?
+How2Tech I've watched your video on the 2nd Gen Moto X for the frame removal guide as you suggested, but I still didn't got what I was looking for... What do you think about removing the lcd from the digirizer, is it worth it ? What preoccupies me a lot is the fact that I never worked with IPS and I already have some IPS glowing going around edges. In the end I want to know is your opinion on: Is worth it the extra work of removing the LCD panel and replace only the glass (10-15€) or go for a screen assembly (50-60€) because there might be complications putting the glass and panel all back together (alignment issues, more like xyz ). PS I mainly use very narrow double-sided tape
If you can afford to do the assembly I would 100% of the time not replace the glass, especially if it is your first time. You have to purchase many items to do glass only, glue, UV light, possibly another frame. I would say if the cost was 100's it would be more worth it.
So uh I did this, but for some reason my power button is unresponsive now. The rest of the buttons work, just not the power. Any idea what might be the reason for this/any fixes?
Thanks for the thorough videos! First time disassembler question: Is the front flash supposed to be part of the replacement display+frame combo you get from etradesupply? I ordered that, but it seems the front flash is integrated in the display frame. Can I just pop it out of my busted screen assembly and drop it into the new one? Will the contacts on its back then connect with the motherboard that way?
+Bob Peplinski (bobpep212) I did not look at that potion very closely honestly. With all prior phones you should be be able to carefully pry it out and put it in the new frame. If needed use a tiny amount of super glue to hold it in place.
+How2Tech thanks for the reply! I ended up doing exactly that, but didn't need to use the glue. I ended up using a couple other parts on the original that weren't part of the screen assembly replacement part... The metal plate that was between the screen assembly and the motherboard and then the two black sort of rectangular rubber mesh pieces that go behind the screen assembly. Not exactly sure what they are for. I do have a couple spots on the new display. Is that caused by possibly over tightening some of screws?
Where would I be able to buy a replacement screen in its entirety? Phone screen broke earlier today, and I've already tried just about everything else. Not cracked but about 1/4th of screen doesn't register taps
thanks for the vid! i replaced my screen yesterday but i forgot about the flash on the front, can i add it to the new lcd/screen that i put on the phone or is the flash no good anymore?? thanks a lot!!
Just replaced my 1-month-old Moto X 32gb Pure edition screen. Do yourself a favor! Go out and buy yourself a good T4 screwdriver, don't use the cheap ones that might come with the screen, they will probably cause you to strip most of the screws like I did (6 or 7 of them), but with a good T4 screwdriver, I was able to get them out and replace the screen and use the same screws to close up the case.
Is there any difference between the screens on ebay and the ones on etradesupply?. I saw some on ebay and some peoples reviews were not so good on the color quality. The ebay ones are a little cheaper.
i went with etrade and unfortunately my screen does have a few blemishes but only when the screen is showing black. Also it did come with the speaker cover but one already fell off and lost it. Not sure if the its worth returning since it does not bother me that much to take it apart again and wait for a new one.
I cracked my screen and will probably follow this video to replace it but how do you put the screen back in. You showed taking it apart but not actually replacing it? :S
+Bogthebuilder I will always put the link to reassembly in the video description. Here is the link to Reassembly: ruclips.net/video/BlKHh6RuU4I/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Well done sir. I need a new battery but I am going to use this one until I it fails to charge altogether. I paid $300 for this phone and a few years later I am faced with throwing it away. I will be going back to a $6 flip phone and never returning to an Android again - or Motorola. Planned obsolesce. Where do these young folk get the money? Personally I feel technology has consumed us. Soon, we won't own IT - IT will own US.
I replaced the screen of my cellphone but when i turn it on it freezes on the power screen. Sometimes it gets past the homescreen but it freezes again and restarts. Do you know where I messed up? Is it fixable? Thanks!
I just replaced my screen. Everything went good thanks to your video but when i powered on my phone it a rainbow static on the entire screen. It responds to touch but whole screen covered in static. Any idea whats wrong?
Thank you for the great video! I just cracked the screen on my brand new moto x Style. Wondering how to get a new screen here in India. Can you recommend a good place (state side or other wise) to pick up OEM screen ? This will be most helpful. Thanks again - Ali
Holy $h!t I'm on the last black screw on the mother board to the screen and it stripped. I'm so close to tearing this phone apart. Please help. What should I do? Damn it, why the last screw??... So frustrated as two other screws almost didn't come out. I got those with one size bigger bit.
+Amy Rodriguez Did you ever figure out how to deal with the front facing flash? I ordered the assembly & frame from etradesupply and thought it would be part of it, since it seems to be part of the frame on the original. How did you deal with this?
This one is pretty interesting darn those are some small Springs, diddent look to bad to disassemble, always like to watch and learn from your videos, thanks ☺
+How2Tech Hi!! great video! I need help my Moto x PE fell and now when I try to lower down the volume it's not pushy not clicky feeling I'm quite nervous in opening it up do you think the spring is in bad position due to the hit?
I stripped like half of the screws 😭😭😭😭😭 I just got this phone 2 month ago and cracked than was about to fix it and now this 😭😭😭 please help me asap I'm counting on you thanks
Absolutely the same here, I bough a screen, and with it came a t4, and before i realized it i stripped 7 of the screws. I'm going to try and find a repair shop if they can somehow fix that. Did you fix your phone ?
Hi, Thanks so much for this video. My Moto X screen is cracked. I was not sure what you mean about getting the "complete screen" is it:-- www.etradesupply.com/motorola-moto-x-style-lcd-screen-assembly-with-front-housing-black.html or this:- www.etradesupply.com/motorola-moto-x-style-xt1575-xt1572-lcd-digitizer-assembly-black.html Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.
When reassembling, what is the adhesive used for the back cover?
Thanks for making this video! My Moto X Pure got ran over by an 18-wheeler Semi Truck and it shattered the screen in tiny pieces. Thanks to your video I got the phone back working again!

Sorry about your phone. My screen broke as well. Where can I purchase an authentic replacement? (Same Gorilla glass, rounded edges and corners etc.)
Sorry for the late response. I bought mine from ebay. I followed the videos and everything went smooth
Many thanks for doing this. This is great and I managed to replace my broken screen by walking through the same steps in the video. I had zero trouble and the operation completed successfully. Thanks again.
Hey, where did you purchase your screen from exactly?
www.etradesupply.com/
Are the displays on the Moto X pure and Moto X style the same?
The Moto X Pure that I have used T4 screws. The T5 was able to get some out, but with some stripping. Hopefully I will still be able to get it back together.
How did you get the stripped screws out? T4 just stripped half my screws, but like you, T5 worked for me on some. Now I've got half the screws that are completely stripped... :/

Any advice for replacing the screen when you have a wooden back cover?
@how2Tech would there be any reason that the display would be slow at responding to touch after replacing? Loose cable? Or is the replacement display crap?
Hi, will this screen assembly for the Pure work for the x play?
Are the parts on the link you provided original parts?
Honestly, the most difficult part of this seems to be getting the screws out without stripping them. I couldn't get two screws out and and to make a long story short, cracked the logic board. Like someone else has mentioned, the torque 4 screwdriver seemed to be a better choice than the T5. The T5 is what stripped the screws on my phone. Oh well, it's only money. Going to go look at that new Moto Z. :)
If I am good at soldering, could I remove the old connector and replace it with a USB C connector? And would the wood back be easy to remove?
Hi,not sure why but mine are t3 screws. So, when I bought my driver kit ,it started at t4 so had to do this in two days. Such a bummer.
Hy, I would like to know if the soft keys have a different sensor on them, cause I own a moto x pure that had the screen replaced, but after some months the entire touch screen works but the three soft keys (home, back and recent). is there a way to deal with stripped screws?
Have similar prblm here ... would heat gun loosen the strip screws
What did you do? I thought my phone was new, but it seems that it was manipulated cause when I opened it all screws were stripped

I had to get a dremel out
Any plans for a Glass Only repair?
does it requires t2 or t3 or t4 to unscrew the screws?
Thank you for this video! I really helped! Please help me to get understanding, I crashed 3 screwdrivers when replaced the display! What's name of this?
what your opinion abt the build quality after disassembly software and hardware part ? will it last for 1 or 2 years ....
+Jerry Kgeorge I think is is pretty good for a "plastic" phone. It will easily last for 2 year in my opinion.
If my phone has a custom motomaker walnut back, can it be removed, and replaced without splitting or cracking, and what do you do about the adhesive? Can the original walnut back be put back on? Will it install as perfectly as the original installation?

are the screws a T5, T4, or a T3? ive seen videos saying they use all of those. and the local repair shop said the t4 didnt fit.
the screws are T3. good thing i bought a set that has T3, T4, and T5.

Is this the same as the Moto X Style?
Did you find out if it was?
yes it is
Sean Turner Thanks
Thanks! This really helped me replace my screen!

what temp for the heat gun??

etradesupply is a bit better with returns and such if quality isnt up to par, so it's usually worth the extra cash

hey do you think a 3rd party repair shop can do this to fix some water in it? the phone works, but the screen is black!
how do i get screws out if they stuck
I replaced the screen of my cellphone but when i turn it on it freezes on the power screen. Sometimes it gets past the homescreen but it freezes again and restarts. Do you know where I messed up? Is it fixable? Thanks!
What happen with the front speakers?
does this work with a WOODEN back? or will it destroy the back?
yes it works well
lucas tejero how can the removed wooden back be reattached?
I just replaced my screen. Everything went good thanks to your video but when i powered on my phone it a rainbow static on the entire screen. It responds to touch but whole screen covered in static. Any idea whats wrong?
Will it still be water resistant after you change the screen?
+androidezra No.
+How2Tech any idea how to make it water resistant again?
+androidezra Dust free clean room, vacuum chamber, Original adhesive sticker....
+How2Tech do you know where I can order the adhesive in case the adhesive doesn't come off right?
Where can I purchase an authentic Moto X Pure screen?
you can actually pull the tabs of the adhesive to pull it off
Thank you for the great video! I just cracked the screen on my brand new moto x Style. Wondering how to get a new screen here in India. Can you recommend a good place (state side or other wise) to pick up OEM screen ? This will be most helpful. Thanks again - Ali

+Emilio Vargas I think it's more likely the button bracket has moved a little.
do u know what to do with a t4 screw stripped? im changing my screen on the moto x pure
had this issue, I just drilled the screw out. since there's 20 of them, i'm pretty sure it will still hold together fine
what did u finally do? thanks
Daniel Rios sent it to a technician, i suppose he had a welding machine for tiny screws.
thanks
The T5 stripped my screws. All other videos I looked up say the screws are T4. Ugh. Now what?
I'm in the same boat. Is there a way to drill them out? Did you find anything that works?
No, I have not figured it out as of yet.
Well I stripped one of the screws...back to amazon for an extractor
8:04 thats what she said..
Where is the Water damage indicator
Is a heat gun necessary? xD I only have a hair dryer.
+ChibiZone he says that a hair dryer may work just fine in the video
i bought a t3, but it doesn't work...
I stripped like half of the screws 😭😭😭😭😭 I just got this phone 2 month ago and cracked than was about to fix it and now this 😭😭😭 please help me asap I'm counting on you thanks
i know why i used t4 ....
Were you ever able to get the stripped screws out, if so, how? I am in the same boat...
Absolutely the same here, I bough a screen, and with it came a t4, and before i realized it i stripped 7 of the screws. I'm going to try and find a repair shop if they can somehow fix that. Did you fix your phone ?
My dad fixed it by engraving the screws with à tool so that it could be removed with à slot head screws but the prosess was very hard
I'm not getting this.
why you don't have 100000000 subs?
+AI_!TM Me with man me either. Feel free to share my channel everywhere!
Hi, Thanks so much for this video. My Moto X screen is cracked. I was not sure what you mean about getting the "complete screen" is it:--

or this:-

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.
if this was the 810 you won't need to use that
+ahmed nader use what?
+How2Tech the heat gun :]
Top comment!
Boma Jaja you get it?
haha took me a bit...
