During one post Hurricane power outage we simmered two cans of chicken with some BBQ sauce in a pan over a can of sterno . Made really good sandwiches. I sauteed some jarred minced garlic and seasonings in the chicken first then added the sauce and simmered about 15 minutes.
One of my family's go-to meals since I was little (And my kids are teens and up) is stove top chicken and rice. One large can white chicken, juice and all. 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1 and 1/2 soup cans water. 1 cup rice (I typically use jasmine, but brown or any non instant rice is fine.) 2 or 3 ribs celery, sliced. Bump it up with celery seed 1 tsp if you like, and a couple chicken bullion cubes. Simmer until rice is done and liquid absorbed. Quick easy pantry meal and mild nutritious food if anyone has a digestive problem. I am lactose intolerant so this is a good quick meal to me. Much love for your recipes and advice. ❤
Hi Maria. I was one of those who was afraid of canned chicken. I now love it!!!!!!! I can my own chicken and I buy the cans from the store. I cook for just myself, and can do so much with 1 can of chicken and not have a lot of food left over. When I can my chicken I do it in pint jars which seems to be just enough for a recipe. I also found that I love canned turkey. I bought a case on Amazon. Given that some stores are now selling small turkeys for as much as 75.00, (yes I saw a price sticker for that much), canned turkey is much more affordable and probably what I will be using for Thanksgiving unless there are some amazing sales. It is so easy to take a can or jar of chicken, some cream of chicken or celery soup, and a box of stuffing mix and have a great supper. Canned chicken is awesome!!!!!!!!
I'm one of those weird people who just adore canned chicken. I really loved this video. I bet I have about 7 cans of chicken in my pantry!! Gonna make one of these this weekend with my granddaughter!! P.S. TIP: I pour the drained water from the can of chicken over my dog's dry dog food... he loves this treat!!
I frequently use canned chicken breast for chicken salad - so handy. To your garlic question, white garlic is a softneck garlic meaning no woody stem through the middle and cloves are varying sizes in one head. Purple garlic is a hardneck garlic with a woody stem which tends to make all cloves in one head the same size. White garlic has a stronger taste so the purple one is best for use raw in a salad dressing or rubbed on bread. Purple garlic is also jucier than its white cousin. Both can be used interchangably.
Canned chicken is so good. I make chicken salad sandwiches with it- add mayo, diced onion, pickle and celery...so good. I make chicken noodle casserole- add sauteed onions, cream of muchroom soup, a little milk, cooked egg noodles, crushed potato chips on top, bake at 350° for 20-30. mins. I will be trying those quesadillas this weekend. They look yummy! Thanks. Love from Texas
Baked chicken salad It’s good cold left over Two cans chicken drained One can drained mushrooms One can drained sliced water chestnuts and I cut them in 1/4ths add in some ranch dressing Mix well and eat cold or bake it Good as sandwiches or just as a casserole I’ve made this at home but it goes nice for camping
I discovered 2 new food items during this trying time. I was SHOCKED by how good canned chicken is!!! And it saves me freezer space for more broccoli 🥦. And canned potatoes. So easy. Potatoes have been icky and very expensive here the past 20 months.
One bag or box of Chicken noodle mix ( Pasta Roni or generic). 3/4-1 Cup of frozen peas & carrots Can of White meat Chicken Cook peas & Carrots in salted water until nearly tender. Drain. Add water as directed on noodle package. Bring to boil. Add noodle mix. Cook per package directions. Add canned chicken. Simple meal for one or two. Add salad on side if desired. I live alone and this makes a great meal & I usually have enough for lunch the next day.
New subscriber! I always use canned chicken in my Chicken, Broccoli, Rice casserole and it's great. By using canned chicken, pantry rice, and frozen broccoli, I can keep all the ingredients on hand at all times so I can make a meal for someone who needs one.
Honestly, one of the most useful youtube channels during these very challenging times.. thanks again.. I am working my way through all of your videos!!
I started buying canned chicken a few years ago, when I was having some health issues and had to eat a bland diet. I've rarely done anything with it except make a sandwich, or even eat it straight out of the can when I'm too fatigued to do anything else. 😁 This was wonderful inspiration! Also, I love Tommy's "cozy." My youngest had a "softie."
I use canned chicken primarily for chicken salad. It does have a different taste. I found that if I toss it in some lemon juice, it cuts that back. I only have one can left so next shopping trip I need to stock up.
I have used canned Chicken in a pinch with Pasta and also in sandwiches - they came out great. I have also shared canned Chicken with my kitties as a treat. I knew I could not eat it all and did not want it to be wasted. They loved it and I saved on cat food :). Even before the recent situation when stores were low on cat food I had been stocking up on canned Tuna [ which I do not like ], and canned Chicken so I always had food for the kitties. Luckily, supplies increased so I did not have to rely on them eating Tuna & Chicken but these are great items to keep in your pantry. Love your videos
Hoppin' back in here to let you know I made the quesadillas for lunch on Friday AND the stove top recipe one of your subscribers put here in the comments for dinner yesterday. BOTH so GOOD, so convenient! I have chicken breasts in the freezer but how wonderful that I didn't have to bake it in this heat. I've made enchiladas using canned chicken one time when I had no chicken prepped. It was GOOD! Thanks for another great video with great ideas Maria ☺️
My Mom used to make creamed chicken on toast for my brother and me when we were young. I make it for myself when I need something quick and comforting. Thanks for these great sounding recipes, I will check them out.
Those pinwheels are awesome. You can also make them ahead and freeze them whole. They cut nicely when frozen if you have a sharp knife. They don't get squished and they make a pretty platter. Another A+ video. ty
Tip: seaweed wraps and rice paper stick to themselves like Saran Wrap so leave room (1in) when rolling BUT flour tortillas will not stick to itself so the spread should cover the wrap completely. Plus if you chilled your wraps in Saran Wrap for 30 minutes it will cut much easier and have time for the flavors to blend. Great videos and very good recipes. 👍❤️
If I'm not mistaken the purple large garlic cloves are called elephant garlic..... I like them.... I also think they're grown in the United States.... I might be wrong.....
The pasta dish looked really good to me! I've used canned chicken, but I also can my own chicken. I love to buy whole chickens and cook them up and can up the meat and put on the shelf for when I need it. I have used the canned chicken for a chicken and broccoli and rice casserole. So good! I've taken it to church potluck, and I usually don't have any to bring home.
I can my own too. We love a casserole with stove top, leftover gravy and cranberry sauce. I did chicken divan for the first time this week and we're going to have that regularly. That pasta dish would be good with cream of mushroom soup too I suspect. I'm going to try it! TY for your videos
When I was growing up, chicken and noodles was a staple in our house. My mom ALWAYS used a large can of chicken to make it. I think I was in my 30's before I finally figured out that I didn't HAVE to use canned chicken.
😋yummy! Quick tip** I found using a larger tortilla and only filling half then fold over one side(so it's folded in half) makes quesadillas easier to flip! Also you can add cheese to bottom of pan, put tortilla on top fill however you like and have cheesy tortillas🤷♀️fun with food! Thank you for sharing your ideas, they're amazing💖
@J Ferris. You describe what quesadilla means in Western US. The only time I've run across these stacked kind is since watching younger cooks and/or fairly new cooks call the stacked things quesadillas. I'm a bit of a food history buff so always seeking out how a new name for something gets started.
Learned to appreciate canned chicken after 2020. I also cook mine with oil and salt free seasoning. You got the perfect scorch on those quesadillas I can imagine the crunchy crackly deliciousness! I’ve been looking for ideas for a picnic basket and the pinwheels look perfect. Thank you Maria!
Do you have to cook canned chicken? I see it always has a slightly pink color so it doesn't look cooked at the factory. And I see everyone cooking the chicken here. To cook , or not to cook?
Yup. 2020 was a real eye opener and palate changer! At least I know I can and eat things I usually don’t. I even started to like sardines! Kind of lay off them now but I have a supply just in case. lol
@@br2080 Absolutely! I'm just scared of getting salmonella poisoning. It happened to me once before with uncooked chicken (not canned chicken just chicken I didn't correctly cook) and I don't want to go through that again. And that canned chicken looks pink in some parts so I'm freaking out lol ... I supposed to be on the safe side I could cook it even more, but it's good to know that it was cooked at the factory
I make chicken tortilla soup with canned chicken when I don’t have fresh or rotisserie chicken. A rotisserie chicken goes a long way! Canned is great!! Love the roll ups!
Thank you for these ideas! I'm so sad to see the price of canned chicken go up so high, my mother made a delicious casserole with canned chicken back in the day but I make it now with frozen chicken breasts or a rotisserie bc it doesn't save much if any money per pound anymore to do canned. I love the convenience of canned chicken, but I've started doing the trick where you throw a 3lb bag of chicken in the instant pot at the start of the week, shred/chop it up, and use it within 3 or 4 days or freeze. That usually ends up being instant pot chicken soup on Sunday and then two more meals during the week (but with it being so hot this summer we've been doing chicken salad and pasta salads with it instead).
Yes, I am familiar with the icky blanket. I made my kids ponchos out of fleece blankets four years ago and they still love them. Due to the fact that they wear them when they sit on the floor, play with the dogs, pet the cat, etc. I have disallowed them to wear them in the kitchen and dining room. It works 70% of the time *rolls eyes*
I love canned chicken. It’s so versatile. At our church we use it in some recipes for our Wednesday night meals because it costs a lot to feed 90 people. We make chicken Alfredo, and chicken spaghetti. We’re looking for other recipes to use it in. I think canned chicken makes much better tasting chicken salad than freshly cooked chicken breasts.
Thank you! I will try the canned chicken again. You’re right, I tried it once and said no way. I do love that Wild Planet brand, so I’ll look for the chicken in that brand. Those recipes are simple, adaptable, and look tasty.
You can make chicken patty’s just like you would salmon patty’s! Canned chicken can be used in casseroles. Here’s an example of one that I recently made. Mix in chicken with steamed vegetables, mix together with crème of chicken, place in casserole dish, then top with stove top stuffing & French fried onions, and some shredded cheese; your choice. Place in a 350* oven for about 25 to 30 minutes.
I use canned chicken in my Chicken Alfredo too. Only I heat my chicken with the garlic and other spices in a several table sppons of real butter for a much more robust chicken flavor adding my Alfredo Sauce afterwards, bring to a slight boil. Serve over fettuccine pasta... sprinkle a little Parmesan Cheese on top & Wallah ... Plate up & Enjoy Serve with garlic bread or bread sticks & small garden salad. Spices : Salt Pepper Onion powder Herbs: Basil Chives Parsley God bless💞🕊💞
Here's some other ways to use canned chicken: add it to a box of stuffing mix. The directions on the box calls for 1 1/2 cups of, but only use 2/3 cup of water cause the broth in the canned chicken will provide the rest of the liquid. Besides the broth gives favor. The next time you have scalloped or Au Gratin potaoes from a box, add the canned chicken and cut the reqired water in half. You can also add frozen peas to either of these mixes. Thanks for your recipes, and I'll definitely try them.
Thank you for the great ideas! I used to shy away from canned chicken until I started giving it a quick rinse with water…takes the tinny taste out. My family enjoys it in enchiladas.
You have the best budget meal ideas! So glad to see some canned chicken recipe ideas that isn’t a casserole. I might consider buying some now you gave me the confidence
We/ve had that here in Canada - I think it's called "elephant garlic" it's delicious. I find they stay fresher longer than the little ones. love this recipe idea going to try it especially its been sooo hot this Sumer; I cook. my pasta in the instant for less heat. yummy
Canned chicken is always on my shelf. Great for quick meals. I will be making your Chicken Alfredo. Chicken also good added to Dollar Tree Chicken A La King
You have helped me with meal planning and preparation, I always have canned chicken, canned pulled pork, and canned roast beef, canned biscuits, in my pantry and refrigerator. I make sandwiches with the meat and biscuits. Freeze them add a salad and dinner is ready.
I just want to say thank you so very much!! This video helped me in so many ways. I made the chicken alfredo out of canned chicken last night and it was so so good! We are making the quesadillas next
You probably know of this item already but I came across, and use, a plastic strainer that is small and round that either fits into a tuna size can and you push it down then flip over the can while holding the tabs on both side to drain the liquid or flip the strainer in the other direction to fit on the outside rim of a regular size can to fit over the entire end of a opened canned and flip the can over to drain the liquid that way. I found mine at a 99only store but have seem then online but more expensive that the 99only.
I've found that by draining and rinsing the chicken and then cooking it like it's regular chicken (oil, seasonings, etc), that it gets rid of the texture issues my kid had with it. I have tried using it just out of the can for pasta salads and such but it definitely has to be cooked up at my house.
Thank You so much for these easy delicious recipes. When you made the quesadillas I was amazed because I have all the ingredients every last one. I'm going to make some. I Love Quesadillas. Your Little Angel is so Cute. His Smile got me. God Bless You. From Your New Fan 😀
LOVE YOUR RECIPES, but I'm commenting on the Cozy...my daughter used to wear one of those cozy huge blanket sweater things that we bought her one Christmas, even during the summer! We couldn't get her to stop wearing it... 😂 Thankfully, FINALLY, she now just carries around her Emotional Support Seal, which we ordered from China; it looks like a real Arctic Seal; SO much better. 🤣 He'll eventually outgrow this phase, but you'll probably never forget it! 🥰
I love the chicken quesadilla recipe. I always keep canned chicken and canned tuna on hand. Hey, in a pinch, I throw a can in a bowl and mix it with some mayo or Miracle Whip and then spread it on a slice or two of bread and I have a quick meal or snack. I'm a type 2 diabetic, so I use low carb bread and I have a quick meal that doesn't spike my blood sugar. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed listening and watching you.
All of this looks great. I always rinse off the tops of my cans just to make sure no dirt, dust, or anything else gets in my food. I may try a few of these soon, great ideas!
Canned chicken makes a great quick chicken noodle soup, so easy a sick person can make it for themselves. 1 can of chicken with broth, 1 can of low sodium chicken broth, 1 cup wide egg noodles (or other pasta of your choice). Add 1/2 cup of frozen mixed vegetables, or peas and carrots, if you want. Bring chicken and broth to a boil, add noodles and veggies. Cook until noodles and veg are tender.
It is so easy to home can your own chicken. It is so much cheaper. We lived on what I canned during Michael we had no electric for 2 and 1/2 months. Love your channel
Oh these look amazing I hope you make a series out of the canned chicken recipes so yummy !! Yes I was inspired !! I can also use the chicken I'm going to can also . Fabolous ideas.
I'm just learning to appreciate canned chicken. I just bought a few cans about 2 weeks ago. I haven't used them yet, the grocery store has been having some really good deals on fresh chicken so I've been stocking up on that too and saving the canned chicken for later. In the winter canned chicken would be really great for making a quick chicken noodle soup.
Thank you for these great ideas! I was afraid of canned chicken too! When the pandemic hit in May of 2020 it was difficult to come by food in NY. I had a can of canned chicken that I kept looking at but was afraid to eat. I mentioned it to a friend who said she lived on it when she was in college so I gave it a try. I usually make chicken salad with it but am getting sick of that. Thank you so much for the inspirational ideas!!!!
It's so funny your video came up because I'm making a casserole with canned chicken because I'm allergic to tuna so we just substitute canned chicken and make the tuna noodle casserole with chicken and I also use it to make mock crab cakes because I can't have the seafood and I just put the canned chicken in place of canned crab me and it tastes exactly the same
@@tinablair2206 😊 just put everything you would into crab cakes including obey seasoning and substitute the chicken for the crab I take mayonnaise and stick Creole seasoning in it to have a little as a dip
My son had a Sweet Blanket (his name for it) that he did the same thing. He has kept it with him his whole life! He is 42 now and married. he has it folded up and hidden in a pillowcase.
Im sorry but canned foods can be on the shelf for years as long as they arent rusty, used by or best by dates are NOT expiration dates... .Ive never been a fan of chicken, we didnt eat it growing up but Ive slowly come around some. I was going to make a taco chicken casserole at pandemonium palace and of course my daughter threw me a curve ball, instead of frozen shredded chicken she had 2 large cans of chicken. It turned out AMAZING and in fact Ive made the canned chicken with sourcream, cream cheese and taco seasoning as a spread twice since then at home!
I’m skeptical but now going to try canned chicken I love tuna so yes chicken makes sense. BTW my god daughter drug a big blanket around as well her mom and I decided one day to cut it in fours so she had it in all rooms it worked well she never had to go find her blankie 👏👍
I have noticed the same thing with the garlic I've been getting! I think the other version has been hard to come by. My local Walmart was limiting garlic cloves to only 1 per person for a while!
Just found you & subscribed. I'm on keto but can do the low carb wrap quesadillas! When I saw the Salsa it reminded me of my crock pot chicken I make w just chicken breast or bones thighs. I add 1 jar of salsa & 1/2 cup water..season to taste. Then shred w forks or a hand mixer. Absolutely delicious and so versatile.

It works 70% of the time *rolls eyes*
I have smoke ham in can I want to just make a ham salad love chicken salad on a good roll! Thanks for sharing!👍👍👍👍
Such a great way to stretch food and it makes it easier!
Thank you! I will try the canned chicken again. You’re right, I tried it once and said no way. I do love that Wild Planet brand, so I’ll look for the chicken in that brand. Those recipes are simple, adaptable, and look tasty.
The roll ups would be a beautiful appetizer and Christmas gatherings.
You could even use the spinach tortilla, you know.cause its green lol and would be festive Haha
Plate up & Enjoy
Serve with garlic bread or bread sticks & small garden salad.

LOVE CAN CHICKEN-IT’S SO EASY FOR SO MANY RECIPES ~THANKS FOR SHARING 😘👍
You have the best budget meal ideas! So glad to see some canned chicken recipe ideas that isn’t a casserole. I might consider buying some now you gave me the confidence
We use canned chicken all the time, thank you for recipes
Yes. Purple in PA. Thought it was just me.
Thankyou so much! I am trying the Quesadillas tonight! Looking forward to it

Loved these ideas Maria! Easy to make as well as easy to change to a lower calorie version! Thank you. A new subbie here!
Thank you! 🥹 I’m struggling on meals in a new country and this was easy to follow!
Canned chicken is very versatile! I have a bunch in my pantry just in case! Thanks for the ideas Maria! Have a great weekend!
😃😃 so happy to share and help!
I just want to say thank you so very much!! This video helped me in so many ways. I made the chicken alfredo out of canned chicken last night and it was so so good! We are making the quesadillas next
These recipes are wonderful ! I can use all my canned chicken i have in my prepppers pantry ! Thankyou so much !
Yay! Enjoy!
Hello, just found your channel! Love these recipes! ❤❤❤
Yay! I’m so glad you’re here!
I eat canned chicken all the time. I like it. The recipes look yummy. Will be trying the Alfredo.
I use can chicken to make chicken pot pies. Have you seen the cream of onion soup? so good
I've found that by draining and rinsing the chicken and then cooking it like it's regular chicken (oil, seasonings, etc), that it gets rid of the texture issues my kid had with it. I have tried using it just out of the can for pasta salads and such but it definitely has to be cooked up at my house.
Thank you for this tip! My son is a picky pants about his chicken. You might have saved the day!
I'm going to try that. Never to Old To Learn. Thanks 👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣That was 2 of my kids with their hoodies! Even in Florida summers they wore those everywhere…
I enjoyed listening and watching you.
chicken pasta salad. mix w crm cheese & ranch dressing,, wow.
All of this looks great. I always rinse off the tops of my cans just to make sure no dirt, dust, or anything else gets in my food. I may try a few of these soon, great ideas!
They all look yummy
Yum. "Chicken Pillows" from another channel made with store bought croissant dough.
Like the last one.💯👍💯🥰💯😋💯👏💯🍛🫑🧄🍅🥗🥑☘️🍚🥦🍗🍲🍝🥪🥚🥓🧀💯
Tommy i love your blanket 😍 back to mama your recipes are bomb. Love love love pink puffy heart love you guys and this channel 💓
All great ideas and all very different. So glad I stumbled on to your channel. Will be on whenever you are!
You can also add your unripened avocados to a bag of onions. They will ripen within a dayor two
Oh I love that idea! Makes sense!
The Bisquick chicken pot pie comes out amazingly delicious with canned chicken.
Oh yes! Good idea!
Do you eat the chicken straight out of the can or do you cook it?
@@624radicalham I make the chicken salad straight from the can. It is already cooked.
@@br2080 Thanks so much!
It's so funny your video came up because I'm making a casserole with canned chicken because I'm allergic to tuna so we just substitute canned chicken and make the tuna noodle casserole with chicken and I also use it to make mock crab cakes because I can't have the seafood and I just put the canned chicken in place of canned crab me and it tastes exactly the same
Love the idea of the chicken crabby cakes.
I'm putting that on the menu
@@tinablair2206 😊 just put everything you would into crab cakes including obey seasoning and substitute the chicken for the crab I take mayonnaise and stick Creole seasoning in it to have a little as a dip
My son had a Sweet Blanket (his name for it) that he did the same thing. He has kept it with him his whole life! He is 42 now and married. he has it folded up and hidden in a pillowcase.
❤
Oooooh,that’s so sweet.
My gosh, there are some great things that can be done with canned chicken! I always keep a couple cans for quick ideas.
Oh my garlic I dig up when it's fresh it's always a nice pretty lilac-ish purple.
Thank you!The quesadillas look delicious and I have all those ingredients waiting for me in my pantry!
Perfect!!
Wow. Thank you. I made chicken and cheese quesadillas. And I made Knorr Spanish Rice too. They were delicious and it made a lot.
Love canned chicken. I buy it by the case! Anything to make life easier. Great ideas - Thanx! 🤪👍👏
I’m skeptical but now going to try canned chicken I love tuna so yes chicken makes sense. BTW my god daughter drug a big blanket around as well her mom and I decided one day to cut it in fours so she had it in all rooms it worked well she never had to go find her blankie 👏👍
I like using canned chicken in enchiladas or enmoladas. Both super delicious.
Yes I’ve noticed my garlic 🧄 was purple too! I wondered if it was old but I guess I don’t have to worry. Tfs 💜
It's called elephant garlic.... I believe it's grown in the United States but I might be wrong on that.....
@@deniecedonnafield5264 good to know!
Lol my middle son had a “rubbie”, a big, soft, fuzzy blanket with a silk edging. He took it allll over the house too.
The pinwheels will be my lunch, no fuss, I needed a lighter option so this works!! thank you!!
How ironic. As soon as the oil went in the pan, an ad for CANNED CAT FOOD came up. How appetizing!
Lol 😂 ew
That's soooo funny! My cat love chicken pate' lol 😋
I have noticed the same thing with the garlic I've been getting! I think the other version has been hard to come by. My local Walmart was limiting garlic cloves to only 1 per person for a while!
Yes! The garlic has some purple in it.
