- I went (with permission) today to several abandoned buildings to look for hidden treasure, valuable junk and more! Watch and see as I do some exploring in some abandoned buildings!
My Uncle Barney collected newspapers in Detroit to turn in for cash. He would get truck loads, maybe save it from time to time waiting for the price to go up! His sister would clip coupons from them...back in the 70s.
That red formica kitchen table was the best thing I saw.
You left the table and stove!! ;)
I love those. And I love you got the Yamaha and art supplies. And the old bicycle. The old paintings are Great.
Ya never know about out buildings. My in-law-grandparents were collectors; not so much, hoarders. Their large out building was (in much better shape) entirely stuffed from floor to ceiling with items that included a Lot from two furnished 3 story Victorian homes they’d bought as an investment after the market crashed when they were young. Amazing finds. Including signs, Alex. Lol.
I’m a retired antique dealer, treasure hunter myself. I really enjoy you sharing your adventures with us! I love your family. You guys are awesome! A shining light.
Take a mask next time!
Much love from Massachusetts, USA.
Melissa, you need to give your hubby a serious talking to about safety precautions.
I need a tetanus shot just to watch this one! Careful Alex!!!
I love this, and my grandpa from Canada, who inspired my love of collecting and antiquing, would love this too. When my grandpa died, the guys from American Pickers even sent their condolences, that’s how much he loved this life.
Incredible buildings! Look at the roof in the hay loft!! The slanted wood on window shutters!! Such a pity they weren’t preserved to show the beautiful workmanship and the traditional methods still seen seen in Ukraine today. Thank you for the opportunity to see a wonderful part of social history :)))
Yes, that roof was amazing - so beautiful with the light coming through it.
Possible salvage for the wood?!
Isn't that the kind of stove Josh wants? It's gorgeous! Your day looked like so much fun. Thanks for taking me along! 👣
My parents had one in their cottage, but you can't get house insurance if you use it. The only way they could get insurance was to block it off and just use it as a decorative piece. After a while, they needed the space for a stove they could actually use, so had to get rid of it. But before the insurance issue, I remember my parents cooking all our meals on it.
Hey, Alex, you might want to think about keeping a picker kit in your car. Boots, overalls, gloves, dust-mask and a high-powered flashlight, maybe even a small wrecking bar. lol
Every vidoe I watch... I think of the same thing, friend.
What a good idea! He never knows what he will get into during the course of a day, having a go bag or picker kit in his car is a great idea. Thanks for posting. 🐾❤️😁
Great idea!!
I sure hope his tetanus jabs are recent!
And maybe a machete or hand ax. And water to wash the dust away from your face afterwards.
Alec.x you remind me so much of my ex he even looked a bit like you. He bought old cars an his grandparents an uncle were hoarders. When you said why not he had those two words tatooed on his leg. He passed away 9 yrs ago. I love these videos reminds me of better times. Thanks for sharing
You are a dedicated picker Alex, the house was okay but those barns, oh no! Glad you got some art supplies for Steven.
Enjoy your channel..you seem to be so kind in this tense world. ..happy family..dad jokes..friends and neighbors. Would love to visit your shop someday. Following along has helped make this "stay at home" less boring ..and fun to be curious with you.
Canada, one of only 3 places in the world with insanely nice people.
@@allyourfuturebelongstochina Yeah. But they won't let us in any more. Sigh. Maybe in 10 years or so people may want to see us again. Yep. Poor us...er usa. Whimpers a bit...goes to take temp again and get some juice.
I've already told my husband, we must visit their shop one day!
Alex is so respectful of every item that he comes across. I love that not much is disposable in his world..and he sees the value in items of the past.
I like the cow painting. It has a primitive look to it that speaks to me.
Me too on the cow painting! How much??
Mmmmmoooooo just kidding. It was a nice painting!
I really liked it. Also the fern type abstract in the back of the other shed. They should rescue those.
I have that same exact red table! It belonged to my grandparents and I got it when my grandfather passed away. I have all four chairs for it, too.
I love that red table! My grandmother had a green one. Wish I knew where it ended up.
We had one like it back in the 60s...
My aunt had that table with the chairs to match from the 50’s through the 70’s. I loved that dinette set.
The old saying isn't "knock on wood", it's "knock on Formica". 😄😄
I like those old tables too. Would like to have one.
Oh my! I love those beautiful 1940’s kitchen cabinets!!
Wow, love that cabinet...the inlay and the glass doors.
Of course its always easy to spend someone else's money, the thought of another house restoration series sounds incredibly exciting and awesome! And the fact he is another artist like Mary....im guessing you have a soft spot for artists.... 😁
more -more :) I enjoy looking for treasures ! Thanks for taking us along with you !
My current favourite channel right now. Im in the UK. One of my best mates lives in Calgary, when I visit him next I want to take a long drive and visit your shop
Thanks for sharing and caring! Stay Safe!
The Vintage Psychology today! I would totally grab that as a psych nerd. I love seeing the inside of heritage/Pioneer homes. It's really interesting to see how homes were constructed with the technology and materials they had but also how they personalized the design of their homes. The beauty of these buildings in their dereliction is lovely to see but also a bit sad. Had they been better kept up, the area could have been turned into a living museum (see Upper Canada Village in Ontario). That overgrown garden is just lovely! Also, you should start bringing gloves with you in the car so that you're not getting covered in grime and animal waste. Thanks for the lovely adventure this morning.
Never mind all the cool old stuff - I was on the edge of my seat watching you walk through the long grass & step into that grain pit! You're a brave man! Stay safe :)
I wonder if the logs from the old house can be salvaged. I’ve had friends that have salvaged old barns and re-milled the logs into floor boards. I thought that the green wall phone in the first house was interesting. I think a lot of us were holding our breath when you dug through some of that stuff. Thanks so much Alex for bringing us along.
Wow! You men are braver than I am. My 1st reaction to the paper filled buildings was to throw a match in. But getting a B-I-G hole dug and a bulldozer to shove in might be better. The old stoves were interesting. Especially the last one. It is guys like you who keep history alive and keep antique stores and museums stocked. Thank you. 😊😊😊
That was crazy fun :)) TY for taking us along with you!! I WANT THAT COW PAINTING!!!!!!!! xoxoxo from Milwaukee
Loved looking at the old houses; brought back many memories of the house I grew up in (over 100 yrs old in Hobart Tasmania Australia). Had a bit of a giggle at your choice of music at 13:30 when you were driving down the road, as it’s the same music that a log-sawing channel, Out of the Woods, uses. Thanks for sharing your life with us & keep up the great work! ❤️
he's used that tune a few time on the potters house series
@@stevek6432 yup, here he goes again...poor Melissa :-)
Alex, I admire how eternally optimistic your are!
Enjoyed. Interesting old farm.
Thar picture from 1877 was something!! Thanks for sharing
I just seen a fridge door exactly like the one on the porch of that house , they had it painted teal and hanging on the wall of their store covered in fridge magnets for sale. It looked super cool! :)
Hi Alex. At minute 17:37 I share your excitement at the log house in the farmyard! See if he will sell you that building. He probably has farm equipment to dismantle the logs and load them on a trailer for you and you could use it as the exterior on your new addition! Even if the dimensions aren't the same as your extension you could use it as a feature wall, either on the interior or the exterior. See if the interior walls are open enough to see the condition of the logs. It has a metal roof, so hopefully there hasn't been water damage. I think it would be a new adventure for you to incorporate an historic log building into your new build!
What a marvellous idea 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Would be a great place for Austin awesome again 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Wow those buildings out in the country look like settlers places. Lot of history there. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
and watch your six.
... Window-shopping the preserve bottles and sewing machine. And the cupboard the clock was sitting on is SO beautiful! I love poking around places like this!!
Oh my, that meal looked yummy! I grew up in Detroit and most of the people in our area were Polish...reminded me of meals with friends. (Myself, I was raised on Southern cooking (parents were from KY). Love watching your videos!!! Stay safe!!!
I love the stove! The buildings could be cool! But the beat deal is the barn of poop! Bag that up and sell it for big money to the New Homesteader Crowd! 👍🏼❤️
That never occurred to me. Good thinking. With the lumber it might make the deal better. Stinky at the bottom but better.
Thanks Alex, that was a cool trip! Interesting to see the land too. l loved that wood cabinet in the 1st house!
Alex, watching you crawling in and out of these buildings, I just want to let you know that I think you earn every penny that you ask 😜
I'm so glad you enjoy doing what you do!!!
The perfectionist in me loves these types of videos because it’s fun finding imperfect things like the curtain at 5:55 is installed the wrong way.
Thanks for taking us through the old property. Decades ago I worked at the Ukranian Cultural Heritage Village for a summer. This took me back.
Hope you and your family are doing well! Much love from Louisiana!
That old stove was awesome!
Alex, everything about this video was awesome (except for not finding three convertible mustangs in one of the buildings) the subject matter, the scenery, the filming, the editing and especially your fearless exploration through marshy fields, spider webs, hornets nests, collapsed buildings and who knows what kind of viruses all to find a treasure from the past. This video was extremely well done 👍
Glad you liked it :)
That farm was beautiful! Living in Florida all I could think was-snake-in all that grass and the barns! Love the property though, just gorgeous.
Loved that stove!
Znow that is the best place to wear a mask. Composed manure can make big bucks selling it to city folk. It's well rotted so ready to use! You find the most interesting places Alex. My Ukraine family homesteaded in Sifton Manitoba on a quarter section of woodland. After seven years of clearing and growing crops the government gave the title to the homestead. Oh ya and they brought seven children to Canada with them and had six more with my grandfather being number seven. Thanks for the ride.
That red kitchen table was a great find!
I would love to see this beautiful old log house being brought back to life! There is so much skill and craftsmanship involved in building one, just imagine all without power tools!
Those hand hewn logs are just awesome!
Oh boy, I would run, not walk away from that house, but if you did decide to remodel it, instead of “The Potter House”, you could call this one “The Hoarder House”! lol. Love your videos!
I love that squeak when old car doors open. When you first entered the house I was instantly reminded of Mary's house. You draw??? When are you going to show us?? What a mess this poor guy has to deal with! I like the bed that was in with the bicycle. I love that rural property, but everything would have to be razed. What a shame.
The log cabin is awesome!! The hand hewn logs, the chinking, the log barns and outbuildings were so old and so beautiful. It's so sad to see them like that, just left to rot.
You guys should be preserving some of these old frontier buildings - amazing
Even when houses and buildings are really old, I hate to see them filthy, neglected and abandoned. You can almost hear the sounds of the people that lived in these places. It is sad to me.
I so wanted you to get the old stove!
I love your shop .I love old stuff
I love these treasure hunting trips! Cool towns and interesting things. Thanks, Alex.👍🏼🤘🏼😎
That religious painting is a hand painted icon. I hope it goes to a good home. 🧡☦🧡
Really love the painting with the cows 🐄 . Shame I'm not in Canada .
Those old buildings were amazing!
The gardener in me sees the one that is half full of manure that has been sitting for such a long time a GOLD MINE in fertilizer! Black Gold!
As soon as I saw that house, I knew you would compare it to the Potter's House, and at least think about "saving" it! Glad you resisted, though. You have enough to focus on now, with the new building and all that will entail, getting it built. Resist, Alex!!
I loved that old Buick! I am the same way with words.
Wow. Lots of buildings. Amazingly little that survived.
OMG you work hard to turn a profit. Wish I had your energy! Guess it's all about the thrill of the chase.
we bought the land next to us and the barn was half way up with rotted hay and manure. My husband worked his tractor for a long time to get it all moved out and built up the land with it and later on grass grew on it, very fertile. You are so brave to go in those buildings never knowing what you might get into.
Another great episode!
Thanks for taking us along... it's crazy how much stuff people hold onto. I keep getting rid of things we no longer use. It just becomes an overwhelming mess. You are very brave to go in for that bike. Not much, but still a fun adventure. :)
As always - a HUGE thumbs Uuupppp💕💕💕!!!!!
Great to see Dominion oil tins.
Never saw them before..
My parents had shares in the Company,
But it collapsed.
Interesting video.
My goodness u r brave going thru those old buildings.....yikes lol. But u always manage to find sumthin. Kolbasa n perogies...classic!!!! Yum
Alex, you are courageous.
I love the red dining table and the clock.
The first old shed you looked in had some great old shelf brackets. I buy any I find, of course within reason.
I love your picking adventures!
I admit I get stressed out whenever you post these videos of you going through old dirty/dusty things in sneakers, shorts, and/or no gloves! And that tall grass, ack, that's just asking for ticks where I live.
Otherwise I love these videos! I love poking around old or abandoned places. Makes me miss the old farmhouse my family lived in when I was a kid.
Not to mention the prairie rattlesnakes, which is native to Alberta - allegedly it's considered the third most dangerous animal i Canada. You don't wanna step on one of those by accident!
Wrench Monkey Mundare is to far north, mostly SE, AB
really---leather chaps--welding gloves--helmet--air filter----he's a braver man than I.
@@yukon_guy Yeah, but Alex is not always up north, he goes south too...
I know right!! If that were Australia.. I would probably set it on fire 'coz you never know what would be there... Spiders... snakes.... urgh. I wouldn't even walk through the shorter grass in Australia without the right clothing etc!!
A massive project, but a lovely place to live if restored, and you could have a country antique barn 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
Matches for burning . Lawnmower or tractor for cutting . Dumpsters for garbage . Lots of buddies. With strong backs . Lots of beers. Maybe salvageable then !! 🤑
You are so funny Alex, with your comments!🤣
That red kitchen table in the kitchen of the house was super cool!
Very interesting but I would be scared to enter an abandoned home. You and your friend who went with you to film are brave. God Bless you both.
Great finds! That trunk was beautiful, I hope you went back for it!
Amazing picking. ♥️
This was fun even if there weren’t many items to take home. Love seeing the construction of the old homes
I love places like this. Such history. I'd love this place!
There's some awesome furniture
I love that red table!
What a beautiful piece of farm property.
Sure was nice of Jamie from Mythbusters to show you around.
Ha ha. That’s what I thought too!😆😆😆
Hey now that you mention it, I can see the resemblance there.
I thought that to lol
That's a big nope from me. I don't know how you do it. I would be terrified of snakes and spiders. I'm seeing nothing. But you definitely remind me of Indiana Jones for sure..you sure earn your money.
Oh Alex Alex Alex, I wish you would invest in some “insurance” by wearing gloves and, especially with your respiratory history, a mask whenever your picking in situations like these. Ya know... an ounce of prevention ... 🌻
FWIW, If one of those vintage houses is salvagable (ie, not mostly rotten as is so often the case), I think restoring it would be a really cool project.
So patient!
I love the red table!!!
The red table would have been perfect for your new ice cream store addition.
I totally agree ! Even though there is only this one.. it could be made into a special show piece of sorts. Like holding old Icecream Parlor memorabilia 👍
Lots of beautifully aged barn boards
If the old logs and lumber were rescued alone I think it could be worth looking into. And the stoves of course plus the spiders might want to move too. ; p.
When I was in my 20's a friend introduced me to thrift shops. They have been a passion ever since. As an artist, my first go to for any project. Years ago, my in-laws introduced me to the thrift stores they visited in Southern Cal. I was able to find so much Jewelry, Art and clothes That had once belonged to the wealthiest people and celebrities. Really one of a kind objects. I was in heaven. Support your local Thrift Shop. You may be amazed at what you'll find.
That second house give me the hibby jibbies your spirit has to be strong to go into homes that are abandoned so many years. Plus you make me nervous everything you's stick your hands into years of old stuff without a gloves.
You have such an imagination!
