My buddy’s pa had a very similar truck, but red with a 351. It was around the time of the show Truckin’ USA on TNN and he happened to look like the host Ed Bruce who I think also drove a red F250 in the show. So whenever he’d roll up without fail I’d narrate Ed’s intro. Surprised he never whooped our asses for it😂 Sadly the old man died this winter. Watch the old Truckin USA intro and see if you can’t find a way to have fun with it if you do a new intro

That's very nearly exactly what I had once upon a time. Mine was an '88 but was blue and it had the manual 5-speed transmission. Great pickup! The last few years that I had it, the glow plugs would need replacing... at some point I figure maybe half of them were working and most of them were original! If I'd had it longer, I probably would have needed to replace the glow plug solenoid. It'd be a bit cold-blooded at first, but once I warmed it up there were no issues with a restart! As others have said, replace the vacuum lines ventilation system uses and if the a/c system works right, prepare to be frozen in the cab!!!! Oh, and that 7.3 IDI diesel motor is hard to kill. You have to just about actively abuse it to kill it.

Check the passenger side firewall for vacuum connections. Had the same problem with my air vents. Simple fix.

I think a great upgrade for batteies, someone changed my cables to just eyelets instead of clamps and put industrial batteries in. So it uses a9/16 nut to keep them secure.

Glow plug solenoid is a common failure. Theres quite a few videos online if you take a look, maybe it will help. They’re reasonable at Rif Raf Diesel.

    • @COLTSWAY

Yea I thought about that or maybe doing a push button to bypass it? What you think?

@@COLTSWAY there so cheap if your 7.3 has one Id replace it. I know the 99+ engine has it but im not sure on the early IDIs. They burn out around 200k miles. Diesel tech Rons old channel has info on it. It’s a one latte job and about as easy as the battery replacement. Only needs cant do it.
