I run a stay-stitch around each block before removing the paper. Put it in between the dotted line and the final trim line so it will be in the seam allowance. That allows for any bias distortion that can occur when pulling the paper out.
Immediately thought of a Christmas quilt when I saw this…red and white with green in the corners. Reminded me of peppermint candies! How cute would that be as a bed runner or table runner if you didn’t have time to make an entire quilt?!
Kimberly makes it seem so easy that anyone could do this. Good news is you could watch the video while trying the block the first few times to be sure you’re sewing it correctly. These papers are amazing. Thanks FQS!
Until this block, until this video, i had not been tempted to try foundation paper piecing. Now i plan to order the Vintage Sunburst and Vintage Kite paper!
My coworker brought in a vintage quilt that was her grandmother’s and I couldn’t find the name of the block. Then I saw this video and I had my answer. Yayyyyy…I’m definitely making this!
Love this block. I too (as others have said) see this in red, white and green for a Christmas table runner or even 4 (2 rows of 2) or 3 (down) for a wall decoration. I love paper piecing and this one will be so fun. Thanks Kimberly for sharing your amazing tips. They are always so helpful and thanks to Lori Holt and FQS for creating this amazing product!
I love this block I just made my first one. It’s very very bulky in the center where so many seams come together. It was hard for my Bernina to so over that center seam. Am I doing something wrong?
I have to admit this paper looked intimidating, but after seeing this video, I’m interested in giving this a try. Thank you for making this tutorial. Blessings and take care.
Is the easiest sewing to do, once you get it started it hard to stop. Photo copy your sunburst on paper and use fabric you don’t like until you get the hang of it.
I am just getting to start this vintage starburst quilt.. I’ve noticed the middle part where everything meets and is sewn together, on the 4 quadrants is very thick. Is there a secret that maybe I have missed .. It is so thick, it is really hard to even press it flat… thanks for any information or tips..
@FatQuarterShopTX is there a full quilt layout image using this block? I bought the papers, love the block, very thankfully for the video. Just trying to get a visual of what it would look like as a full quilt. Thanks 😊
Please explain. Are the different blocks mentioned at the end of the video supposed to combine into a quilt? Or, does each block stand alone as in, maybe, a table runner.
Hi Everyone... sorry this is late - but my tip is use a Add an 1/8" ruler instead of the 1/4". Or use each every other seam. It will cut down on the bulk, and may improve your result.
Hello Violet! Each 12" Vintage Sunburst Quilt Block Foundation Paper includes 42 sheets so you would need two paper pads to make a queen size quilt. We also have a guide on the product page that shows various quilt sizes and the amount of blocks needed to make each size. bit.ly/3NL04RY
NOTE for Kimberly: Use Studio 180's Tucker Trimmer 3 and their Cyclone Technique Sheet to create the Sunburst Quilt Block without paper piecing. 🙂 So very easy!!

Love this block in the 12- inch size. ❤
It would be great to do a quilt using a mixture of the 12”, 8”, 6” and the 4” blocks. Thanks again for the wonderful tips and tricks!
I agree. Do the final trim from the front. Depend on your ruler, not the foundation paper, to cut your block to the correct size.
Oh Kimberly and team I loveeeee this new paper. Thank you for sharing.
Love this block. I thought oh no a center circle but it’s magic! Thank you for another wonderful video. Great learning tool

Love this. Have paper pieced before, however this looks so much more user friendly. I use the purple Thang to get my paper removed.
Love this new paper and I also hope to see it in a future SS box.
I’ve only done paper piecing once, but I really loved this technique. You did a very good job explaining it!

I love this block I just made my first one. It’s very very bulky in the center where so many seams come together. It was hard for my Bernina to so over that center seam. Am I doing something wrong?
Hello Kamie! We recommend pressing your seams open and using a clapper.
Love the block, sew cool!
I LOVE your fpp products! Superior quality!
Looking forward to trying this paper. Hope we receive it in a near future Sew Sampler box along with Lori Holt fabric. That would be a great box!

Can’t wait to try this out!
Very cute
Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous
That's cute.
I have watched this twice and now I really want to try this. Do I need a fq pack of 10" square stack?
Hello Melissa! You can use any precut that you'd like as long as the pieces are big enough for the section.
I love it!
Please explain. Are the different blocks mentioned at the end of the video supposed to combine into a quilt? Or, does each block stand alone as in, maybe, a table runner.
Hello Flossy! You can do whatever you would like with the blocks.
So cool!
Does Kimberly use Schmidt’s size 90 on her Juki or the high speed needles recommended?
Hello Cynthia! Kimberly uses Schmetz Universal Size 90/14 Machine Needles 5 count - bit.ly/3pwZjEn
Can’t wait to try this!, Kimberly, where did you buy that cute blouse? ❤
Hello Dall! Kimberly typically buys her tops from Talbots.

I was wondering how much time does it take to complete one block?
Hello SAF! It could take 2 hours to all day depending on skill level.
Put this paper In my shopping cart
If you need 64 blocks to make a queen-sized quilt and each pad makes 10 - 12 1/2 in blocks...you would need 7 of these pads?

I don’t remove my papers until I sew the quilt together so the blocks don’t stretch out of shape!

This is a lot of work.
