Pedo Surgeon Wanted to Help 8-Year-Old ‘Explore Her Sexuality’: Ex-Wife

- Lynn Lindaman, 73, was a pediatric surgeon in Iowa for years. A jury recently convicted him of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl at his home. Lindaman’s ex-wife testified that he told her he was helping the girl “explore her sexuality in a safe space.” This comes decades after a prior conviction of sexual assault, but Lindaman was still able to practice medicine. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber digs into how this could happen with former sex crimes prosecutor Sarena Townsend.

Because the first assault was not important enough to warrant a significant sentence, we have today's awful news.
In the 70's, a 20 year old with a 14 year old there just wasn't as much outrage then as there is for this sort of thing nowadays.

I hope investigators look into probable other victims. There is no way there's a 40 year gap, especially with predators like him.

I am a child SA survivor and a YT true crime creator. It is very common for predators to tell children that they want to help children explore their sexuality safely. Another common grooming ruse is to tell children that they were married in a previous life so the romantic feelings are natural (my father said this to me). Also, I was told by my therapists many years ago that it is impossible for a 6 year old girl to imagine the things that I reported (I thought it started at 6, but my father later told me he started when I was an infant), so it is HIGHLY unlikely for an 8 year old child to mis-report such abuse.

I am so sorry to hear that you had to endure such behaviors from your father. I did as well. Unfortunately for me, back when I was going thru it, my therapist told my parents that I was imagining it. It's shocking how much of a difference it makes thru the generations. I think, for the most part, these days more people believe the accusers. Where as when I was the accuser it was in the early 80's and it really seemed like people just didn't want to believe that someone was capable of treating their own child that way. Anyway, thank you for sharing that part of your experience. It helps me feel vindicated about mine.

As a man, i dont even talk to children im not related to. Always be suspicious of men being too friendly with other's children. It's odd. Be especially cautious with men being overly anxious to "help" you with your kid. It's awful we gotta be like this, but it should be the new standard. There are millions of these weirdos out there. Just look at how many youtube channels were all they do is catch these dudes.

I worked at a National Children's Hospital and it was hospital policy that there were always TWO medical professionals with a patient at all times. Doctor and nurse, 2 nurses, etc. I almost always encouraged a parent to stay in the room with the child when available. It reassures the parent and usually comforts the child.

This is partly why I'm not ok with doctors and dentists being allowed to be alone with kids.
They shouldn't. I stayed with my girls, doctors, nurses, and dentists. Wherever my child went, I went.
They shouldn't be alone with the doctor and the parent who molested them either.
I've never experienced a doctor or a dentist being alone with my kids and grandkids nor have my friends with theirs. It seems in some places, some doctor and dentists seem to have persuaded [groomed] parents to think it's normal to be expected that they should have private unfettered access to their kids [and in very vulnerable, exposed situations too]. It needs to be the paradigm across the board that no-one has the right to expect blind trust from parents or guardians with their kids. No special allowances for supposed professionals having a special position that expects us to drop natural vigilance. Predators thrive in the society they've groomed into an attitude of complacency and compliance to professionals.

The fact that the abuse occurred in his HOME and that the child initially first told his now ex-wife suggests this was not a patient but a family member or child of a close friend, not a patient.

Ive just spent a year being a whistleblower in childrens gymnastics. The governing body did everything they could to cover up the evidence myself and my colleague took them. Actual video and photographic in some cases. Both s3xual physical and mental abuse against the kids. They even tried to get us to sign NDAs and pay us off. We went to the parents instead and emailed all 1000 of them to let them know what was happening. I lay awake even now a year later thinking of what I saw.

Why didn’t his university investigate before accepting him into medical school? He would have had access to children during his training.
The fact he mentioned it to his ex-wife without thinking she'd report him makes me think he'd gotten so used to getting away with it over the years he forgot it's even illegal. I bet there are tons of other victims in that time span. I bet that entire board is rotten to the core too. "Board certified" indeed.
I am an addiction counselor at a well known Behavioral Health Facility in Wisconsin. In order for me to work with my population of people I had to do a criminal background check, a caretaker’s background check. A drug screen and a physical. How is it this guy slipped through the radar? The facility that hired him should be held liable.

Did the parents drop her off , who wouldn't go into the room with the doctor , a child doesn't understand what doctors are recommending , it's difficult enough for an adult. I always forget what they tell me. Also why was he still practicing at 73?
@@rbspider It was at his practice......which may have been part of his home. And in NZ we have such a shortage of doctors that they can't retire even if they want to. My doctor is in his 70s and very tired but stays on out of duty. But in NZ a nurse must be in the room when the doctor is doing intimate examinations. Her mother may have been in the waiting room for all we know. But I always went in with my children, even when they were teenagers.

I work for a major Health insurance company. They do background checks on us every year! You would think the same would happen for doctors who deal with the public. Especially children! They should be sued !!

Most predators are sadly, our doctors, our law-enforcement, our lawyers, a bunch, a different people that are higher up and hold higher positions or a higher title or anything like that or typically predators and I know there’s gonna be a lot of people to argue this with me but open your eyes if you watch true crime, you know that most of the predators out there hold a higher authority over the public whether that’s a doctor or whether it’s law-enforcement
Lawyers have no authority.
Religious leaders as well. People who are put in positions of authority will very often abuse that authority. To make it worse, kids are taught to trust those people BECAUSE they're doctors, ministers, etc. Nobody should get a free. pass to be alone with your children. NOBODY.
They usually want those positions for this reason, too... sad thing.
