Waze for Carplay in the Ioniq Tested

I do a first test of Waze on Carplay in the Ioniq. Waze is, in my opinion, the best sat nav system and I've been using my iPhone mounted on the windscreen since we got the Ioniq over a year ago. Now I can discard the windscreen mount and use Waze through the Ioniq's Carplay system. But is it bug free?

Thanks for sharing that information. I am eagerly waiting for the Ionic to arrive here in Australia (Tasmania), it has been very frustrating having to wait. It is supposed to arrive this month, no information on pricing yet. The Zoe has arrived but only in Sydney and Melbourne. I am at the moment thinking I will get the Ionic. Nissan are saying the Leaf wont be here till next year. I like the reviews on the Kona, but think that will definitely be out of my price range. I do like Hyundai, I had a sports waggon in the 90 and was impressed with finish and reliability.

Thanks for sharing. I use CoPilot on my iPhone for navigation as it gives you a view of the traffic ahead. I will give Waze a try next week. I’m thinking about leasing the IONIQ Hybrid in the “Premium” trim level so that I get car play etc. I’ve never leased before but I’m getting fed up of steep depreciation curves on new cars!

Thanks. I strongly recommend Waze. Switched to it from Tomtom, and it's better than the Ioniq's built-in nav. I still love the Ioniq. Was thinking about the Kona for greater range, but it's just nowhere near as efficient, and I still rarely need to do more than the Ioniq's range in a day. And charging at motorway services has always been a good experience. So all positive here.

Thanks for your reply. We are tempted by the Kona but the space is a bit limited for our needs. You might remember that we have the Ioniq hybrid and we love it. We might trade ours in about 18 months and if the Ionic gets a battery upgrades we'll go EV if not maybe PHEV version. Will look at Waze on Android though.

IMHO. By18 months time, Hyundai will have upgraded the Ioniq Battery to 39Kw and 60Kw.

I hope you are right about that and it might be possible if that capacity can be stored in a battery of the current size.

I’ve been reading great things about the ioniq. I have a 100 mile round trip commute. There is charging at work but occasionally it could be full. Would the ioniq cover the round trip of 100 miles if needed.

Yes, its range is typically 120 miles+. If you drive efficiently, it can be way more than this.

Do you mean the constantly displayed speed limit? Yeah that's gone. Best we can hope for is that Google will listen to feedback and improve the display. Will only happen if we leave feedback, of course. That's something for he Waze forum, hopefully.
