On the plus side, at least Hyundai are providing an option for owners to self service. Many manufacturers would charge hundreds to do this, and some manufacturers don’t even bother making updates altogether.
Side note: software and firmware updates normally have a change log associated with them outlining exactly what the changes are.
Having had my Hyundai Ioniq since 2017, this was very interesting . I am in Canada (near Toronto) so the graphics are a little different but I found it a relatively easy job to update my GPS , Maps etc. As new roads are constantly being constructed around here , it was also easy to confirm the update by checking to see if the new roads were shown. Our charging networks are still pretty poor in North America but are improving , sometimes by two steps forward and one back! It has been great to see that other people appreciate the Ioniq , a reliable and economic vehicle if ever there was one.
Updated mine last week and was very straight forward. Car does all the updating for you once you transfer the updates to the SD card.
I remember the dealership mentioning that this might be possible but they did not know any more about it.

I had mine done at the dealership found the mapping update good with a lot more information on screen and I liked the 3d graphics of the towns
I have not used android auto so can't comment on the use but I wouldn't expect any difference between phone and hyundai screen
Give the new software a chance in using it in route planner and try and take in all the information it gives you on route

Thanks for that information. I downloaded the update a few weeks ago but didn’t have the courage to plug in the car and complete the update. But now I have seen you do it I will go ahead. Thanks for showing the fails.

Useful video. Not certain that I would have the confidence to realise that it is the slowness of the updates that is taking the time and not my incompetence. Previously, the dealership has updated the software when the car has been in for a service.

Only just seen this video; I had the dealer update my Hybrid MY2017 as part of service!!

The video covers the update procedure for older Hyundai cars. Newer models (with the widescreen infotainment) don't have an SD card so you have to use at least a 32GB (or 64GB for some models) USB stick instead. This also means you can't easily downgrade to the old version. The software for the widescreen models (at least on my Kona) offers to do the update while the car is switched off. That way you don't have to sit and watch as it applies it, you just put the USB stick in, tell it to apply when the car is off, turn off the car and confirm it should start the update, then get out and walk away. It notifies via Bluelink when complete (which might be why it didn't offer that on non-widescreen model which I think doesn't have Bluelink).

Same problem with Kia who also mandate Windows or Mac. I quit Windows at Win 95 and use Linux Mint, Chrome or Android. I'll need an old fashioned neighbour! Korean IT seems a bit behind the times?

In Belgium, AFAIK all Hyundai dealers put the latest update and GPS info when your cart is one for the annual service. As my car is just the years old, I might continue with the dealer service to make all warranty claims will be honoured if needed.

Nach dem Update werden die radio Favoriten nicht mehr numeriert Man hat keine Möglichkeit seine Favoriten selber zu sortieren, Somit kann man wenn man 20 favoriten angelegt hat durch alle durchklicken bis man den sender gefunden hat den man am liebsten hören will , da kann man die Favoriten Speicherung genauso gut bleiben lassen . ich kann es nicht empfehlen, Des Weiteren funktioniert sieben von zehn mal die Bluetooth verbindung nicht
My 2017 Ioniq 28kWh has never had a software update, despite being regularly serviced at a main dealership. Should the dealer have done this without being asked? For free?
Did the speed of the software increase durig using it or maybe changing the SD-card to the original one?
My 2017 is on WiFi @home. It received an update OTA… w/o swapping cards. Is this also okay?
I was wondering is it possibe to replace the head unit to a tela like one so i can use andriod auto wirelessly or would if affect the ev states.

Hi Matt, thanks for this video, does this update includes the charge limit option, in our 2018 Ionic this is not available. I would like to have this.
No it doesn't. But I feel its not actually needed anyway. Charge it to 100% (on AC) and just let the BMS do its job. Many put so much effort into limiting their charging and I've seen plenty of proof that it has no measurable effect. You really don't need to worry about it. The batteries on these cars are rock solid and last.

How to update same model came without card slot
Just made the update, Update Fail, My screen is bricked, message Update Failed.IONIQ 2017, Canadian version.
I would try downloading the software again. I've had corrupt downloads before. If you can't re-initiate the multimedia screen, try disconnecting your 12V battery for a few minutes.
anybody know why in some peoples cars the range (remaining kilometers) is dispayed in blue color?
Mine worked but the navigation won't load. Any tips? I tried downloading and updatting again a couple of times.
I'm not sure. I would look at the files on the SD card and see if the navigation files are there. I don't have one to hand, but I would assume there is a folder for the files. I'd also do a reset, but turning off the car for two minutes, then disconnecting the negative terminal on the 12V battery for another two minutes.
Anybody knows if it works on hyundai encino?(hyundai kona manufactured in China)

Did you ever pursue what the dealership actually did on the recent recall for your 5 year old Ioniq
Mine went in recently for Mot and service and supposedly update
I can find in the system that a update date has been entered but no documentation about the recall even though I had left a hand written note asking them to provide

No. Ours went in to have the recall done, but my partner collected it and when I asked "what was done", all I got back was "don't know...I didn't understand it" !!

I can't see the point of including the failed attempt to put the software on the SD card: the video could have been shorter.
Because others might experience the same, so it helps to show the issues with the downloader software.

Oh dear, what a clumsy and tedious process, requiring an aged Windows PC which failed first time around! Makes us realise how many years in advance Tesla owners are enjoying, with painless overnight downloads/updates ! The Koreans have massive catching up to do clearly.
Funny how a tesla that costs nearly twice as much, has more premium features.

@@roygardiner4002 unfortunately I’m Sweden they are too in insurance fee. And when something breaks it is far more expensive to change a part such as the infotainment screen or something else… (had a friend with that issue).
I own the ioniq and compare the efficiency with my neighbors efficiency on Tesla m3 lr , and I always win 😅.
I just wish I had bought the premium plus version of this car.
We will see , probably we will upgrade in the future to ioniq 5 or enyaq or id4 .
We are extremely happy with this car as a first ev car.
