- For those of you not familiar with the Hyundai IONIQ, it’s an electric Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid or pure EV set to rival the Prius.
The Prius may get some hate from petrolheads, but it’s been around since 1997 so it proves that there is a market for it. In this review, Jenny looks at whether Hyundai’s IONIQ can take over a significant part of the market from the Prius?
The appeal of IONIQ, especially in the hybrid form, is it doesn’t try too hard to be different and maintains some of Hyundai’s more popular and modern design aspects and applies them into a Hybrid.
This Hybrid has a 1.6 naturally aspirated petrol engine with 77 kW of power and 147 Nm engine paired with a 32 kW electric motor with 170 Nm. The combined system output is at 104 kW and 265 Nm.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) comes with the same engine but gives up to 50 km on electric power only. It also has a bit more push, since the electric motor produces 45 kW.
The all-electric model comes with an 86 kW motor with 295 Nm and a 28 kWh battery that gives it the range of 280 km. The EV tops out at 165 km/h.

From the U.K. We have been running our Ioniq Hybrid for 13 months now and approaching 8,000 miles at an average of 61 m.p.g mainly urban traffic. A great car to drive, comfortable, quiet and quick off the mark especially in sport mode. No rattles, squeaks or other irritations. Visibility is actually pretty good and the safety systems cove any blind spots. Great review Jenny.

I'd take this over a Prius any day of the week. Hyundai continue to put out winners.

The foot parking brake is a bless compared to the electronic one. The electric one is a pin in the ass after some ageing and very, very expensive to fix.
And yes Ioniq is way better looking one. I never understood why Toyota insist to pack otherwise nice teach in the strangest possible design...
This is a great car but if you make a big mistake and put diesel into it will do lots of damage to your engine and will probably make it a right off. Think before you fill double check. I love this car but my one is dead.

Shanjay Guhan a plug in is a hybrid that has an electric motor that can be driven independently. I get 50 klms of pure electric and 950 klms of gas per tank but I don’t use the gas if I travel under 50 klms before I recharge by plugging it in.
Best of both worlds.
