It's a lot easier to build a sound you have in your head that to be an abstract 'good' sound.
I have a crummy Sampson mic that has zero bass, weird mids, it's brittle and harsh and distorts, and it's the first mic I grab if I want to do a lofi AM radio vocal effect. And even then, it's not always the right choice. Context is key, and yep there's no best mic.
