Peterson has said many times that he finds it fascinating to talk to people because, he says, he always learns something new from them. It could very well be that this intense look that you observed is genuine and he really is very interested in what people have to say. He also said that being interested in what people have to say has helped him in his therapy practice.

Peterson's academic pedigree without a doubt goes straight back to MKUltra and the CIA. Peterson did his post-doc under a man named Maurice Dongier. Dongier obtained his degree in psychiatry in 1954 at McGill University, training at the Allan Memorial Institute. The Allan Memorial Institute was founded and directed by Donald Ewen Cameron, who was contracted by the CIA to conduct MKUltra mind control experiments there between the years 1957 and 1964. After completing his post-doc, Peterson then went on to teach at Harvard for five years, taking up Timothy Leary's old position. The stare is from his intense curiosity you say , think again.

7:15 Peterson's an accomplished Jungian, as such - he's interested in the character and motivations of people. In interviews you can often see him examining the person he's talking to, trying to assess whether that person places any validity in their own assertions or are they attempting to set a verbal trap. The nature of the person he's talking to greatly changes how he deals with them and whether or not he's going to follow a line of dialogue to explore an idea or notion being presented. Unfortunately, this is a sign of cynicism sinking in: because much earlier in his career - he didn't do that. Previously he, perhaps naively, acted under the premise that people were acting in good faith.

That's a really good observation. We indeed have to be super cautious to accurately measure the intentions/nature of the person we're interacting with. It's the "as wise as serpents" maxim in action. I have always taken Jung and Jungians to be seekers who are looking to thread the realm of the 'unconscious' carefully. I believe me of them through careful and precise examinations unlock spiritual understanding which awakens dormant energy potentials(let's say). (The power of emotional or mental concentration which is also used in deep thought/research.) Regular left brained high IQ scientistists are largely cut off from their body/heart so this state of mind is often incomprehensible or intimidating to them. Even in non-intellectual cultures the aforementioned highly concentrated mind is detected and is feared too(they are classified as evil or wise men, depending on the person and circumstances)

    • @jeremyashford2145
      @jeremyashford2145 7 месяцев назад +4

As a university professor Peterson is used to an audience of young people, although working in the humanities that audience is more likely to be women.
As for his public talks his audience comprises those who choose to attend. There are no limitations as to either age or sex.
He does not target people. He addresses those who choose to be there.
“Beliefs” is a tricky word and one best avoided. It generally refers to ideas not based on facts, because facts do not require belief. And belief does not require facts.
Peterson has much to offer those who have already formed their own beliefs: facts.

Why do you think the deemed "fact-finders" of the world exist in the first place? Authority requires belief in the credibility of an authority. Trust is the _belief_ that a someone or something is reliable, credible, or safe. Facts are only accepted as factual by a group when the people's trust in the organization or entity is above a threshold.
Likewise, the economy only works when people _believe_ the system isn't failing. This involves trusting the markets (the collective decisions of a group).

The mesmeric look: The Jolly Heretic was hyp-NO-tized by JP.
He learned this from his years as a professor in an attempt to engage students. He's the kind of guy who would not rest on his laurels in any endeavor. He'd have been trial-and-error testing how to get his students engaged, year after year.
If you've seen his lectures, even online they engage you. His ability to discuss his own understanding of the world is unparalleled. All while not being condescending. He's self deprecating -- readily admits to not being finished with his thinking about a problem -- which mirrors all listeners because they wouldn't be listening to him unless they weren't also working out a problem.
Another one: When he looks into the crowd, he doesn't look at some generalized area, he looks right in the eyes of individuals in the audience -- which can't help but make that person feel like the information is relevant to themselves on a personal level rather than an academic one.
Study his lecture presentations and you can see many techniques he uses to engage his class -- rhetoric, body language, and how he creates a narrative which can draw you in. He's so powerful with these techniques, they work in recorded videos to get your attention. This is why he has become famous and for no other reason.
Years ago he ran for public office, I think, but didn't make it. I don't think that would be the case today. I think that loss jostled him to constantly improve his ability to engage people. Some of that improvement would've been conscious, but a lot would've been unconscious.
One must feel thankful that he's mostly a centrist (and in Canada) and he leans more toward the libertarian side. If he was a totalitarian and citizen of a world power, he'd have ended the woke with extreme prejudice. Hmm. Now that I think about it, I think that fate would be better than what the woke (neo-Maoists) have in store for us all in years to come.

Very interesting comment. I almost think he was at his peak in the lectures though, the culture war and its continuous character assassinations cut him deep and he's seemed wounded ever since, I think because he's genuinely sensitive and empathic, which is also why he can't dogmatically come down on either side with much conviction. Also feels like his Daily Wire position is a container more than a platform, his gifts are better served toward helping good individuals in these hopelessly confused times than engaging with the culture war directly.

Peterson's academic pedigree without a doubt goes straight back to MKUltra and the CIA. Peterson did his post-doc under a man named Maurice Dongier. Dongier obtained his degree in psychiatry in 1954 at McGill University, training at the Allan Memorial Institute. The Allan Memorial Institute was founded and directed by Donald Ewen Cameron, who was contracted by the CIA to conduct MKUltra mind control experiments there between the years 1957 and 1964 and who knows how long after. After completing his post-doc, Peterson then went on to teach at Harvard for five years, taking up Timothy Leary's old position .

He was a UN adviser to Jim Balsillie (ex-CEO of RIM/Blackberry), who was working on a UN panel called 'The United Nations Secretary-General's High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability'. This UN panel produced a document that is essentially a Marxist NWO blueprint, and this document was later built upon and referenced by a UN panel that John Podesta sat on called 'The United Nations High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons On the Post-2015 Development Agenda'. Both of these panels laid the groundwork for the 'United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'.

What is fascinating to me is how JP knows so much about jungs psychology and yet seems to suffer from unconscious denial very badly. Is jordan peterson now trying to save the world with his idea that he knows more about morality then others? Why does jordan peterson get angry and avoid his own question he asked himself if he believes god exist?
Its a long comment as this is not an simple thing to explain.
If you have 12 minutes the first basic part I will go over is about fast/slow thinking. If you want there is a 12 minute video by veritasium called "the science of thinking" that will explain it very well. I think this is knowledge that can really benefit people if they do not know about it. The next part though I dont know any videos for and I dont know if anyone really had the idea I have before.
The knowledge of the fast/slow mind is what is relevant from that video and I think a good starting point for the discussion. The video also gives examples of people doing it live, but it most likely will work on you as well so that is how I will show you. I am going to ask you a question, and I am going to predict the answer you will have pop in your mind at first, and predict that will be a wrong answer. This works on most people and you can try if for yourself on others to see too, its an interesting conversation starter.
A bat and a ball together cost 1.10, the bat costs 1.00 more then the ball, how much did the ball cost?
You might have an answer flash in your head right away with fast inaccurate fast mind but if you check that answer with your slow but more accurate conscious awareness, you can see that answer is wrong but it takes effort to do. The answer of ten cents is not the right answer but most people have that pop in their head because of the fast thinking mind that we rely on most of the time.
The fast unconscious mind is taking everything in and trying to make sense of it really fast. Its 11 million bits a second. But sometimes it makes mistakes. The slow conscious mind is 40-50 bits and lazy but it can check things and bringing the unconscious mistake to conscious awareness it can correct it.
The next thing to understand is about carl jung and the 4 ways the unconscious complex he called shadow deals with reality. The shadow is an unconscious complex that is defined as the repressed and suppressed aspects of the conscious self. there are constructive and destructive types of shadow. Carl jung emphasized the importance of being aware of shadow material and incorporating it into conscious awareness lest one project these attributes onto others. The human being deals with the reality of shadow in 4 ways. Denial, projection, integration and/or transmutation.
Now I believe what is happening when a question that exposes a conflict in a belief, idea, something that someone said, or even about someone they idolize and the question gets avoided, that is the fast unconscious mind going into denial and the response is often a projection. This also can trigger and emotional response activating the amygdala more and the pre frontal cortex less where rational conscious thought is said to happen and the amygdala starts to get the body to flood itself with chemicals/hormones.
Its like the fast mind knows conscious awareness will say its wrong. so it blocks it off to defend itself from admitting its wrong. in cases of denial and because it blocked off the rational mind, the responses are often irrational. Like personal attacks do not address the issue or answer the question. I think we can agree people have a very hard time now days admitting when they are wrong, I am not exempt from this myself I do realize. And we can see how badly questions avoidance effects us if you watch political meetings and watch them avoid questions all day long.
Ok, so the first thing to go over is denial as that is the main one I expose with questions. A disowning or refusal to acknowledge something I think is a good definition for it here. There is a really good 2 minute video I use as an example of this. A streamer named vegan gains claiming lobsters have brains after some one said he can eat lobsters because they do not have brains. He googles it and starts to read what it says. When he gets to the part where is says neither insects nor lobsters have brains, he skips it and says they literally are insects then skips over that line and continues to read the rest. Just like in the fast thinking video, his fast mind already read that line and refused to acknowledge it in unconscious denial, and just skipped it.
The person then tells him he skipped it and he reads it again and sees the line this time. Still being defensive of his claim and refusing to accept he was wrong, he tried to discredit the source and its the lobster institute of maine. If you would like to see the video for yourself its 2 minutes by destiny clips and the video is called " Destiny Reacts To Vegan Gains Ignoring Search Result That Contradicts Him". Justin turdo avoiding the question of how much his family was paid by the we charity 6 times in a row I think is denial as well. I think jordan peterson not being able to answer his own question of does he believe god exists and asking what do and you mean then saying no one knows what any of those words mean while being seemingly angry is think is another really good example of denial... and projection. And while JP find those words difficult, other people understand them easy. Even he does pretty much any other time they are used.
So projection is next up. Psychological projection is a defense mechanism people subconsciously employ in order to cope with difficult feelings or emotions. Psychological projection involves projecting undesirable feelings or emotions onto someone else, rather than admitting to or dealing with the unwanted feelings. Many times a mind in denial will use projections for responses. Someone getting mad and telling the other person to not interrupt when they have been doing that a lot themselves would be an example. I have done this myself. The people who tell me I dont understand my own questions and my point is wrong when they do not even know what the point is are all examples as well. I ask them to steel man my position to show then understand my point and they just avoid that question as well clearly showing they do not understand my point.
Now we have integration and/or transmutation. Integration is when you bring an unconscious behavior into conscious awareness and accept it. I know that I interrupt people talking sometimes even though I think that is wrong to do. I have a conscious awareness of it, but I have not been able to completely change the behavior.... yet. That is where transmutation comes in. Transmutation is to completely change that unconscious behavior. From being impatient to being patient, of from distrust to trust, hate into understanding and love even.
So was this understandable or confusing?
if you understand it, do you think its possibly true?
Do you have any questions? If you have any tips I am would gladly listen.

Have you seen that one scene on one of his recent trailers, where his eyes look (in a positive sense) practically reptilian? I don't know about the whole gravity of his stare itself, but his eye colour sunlight refraction is quite something, haha.

The "intense stare" reminded me of what people said about another very popular and charismatic man; Hitler, who, if you read accounts of what he was like in conversation, also used such a stare to make people feel somehow unnerved or special. It was as if he had some kind of aura- an effect that I found extremely interesting.
(I am not saying Peterson is Hitler - merely that perhaps it is a trait common to very charismatic individuals.)

Reading this, I'm trying to remember if I've ever met anyone like that - and how I responded.
I'm inclined to think that I found myself uncomfortable with the intrusive nature of such a stare - and did my best to politely extricate myself from the conversation.
Eye colour plays a big part, I think. I find pale eyes a lot more unnerving to stare into than darker one.

This was a fantastic breakdown of the psychology behind left wing authoritarian behaviour. JP talks a lot about those fuelled by resentment. It all makes complete sense when I consider the people I've known who were just angry, spiteful, deceitful narcissists who signalled their virtue like nobody's business but would never actually lift a finger to fix the problem they were screaming about. It was clear they were weaponising the problem to axe grind a personal grievance, and now I understand why. Thanks The Jolly Heretic.

I feel i have benifited from listening and reading Jordan Petersons books more than my personal reading of philosphy including budhist psycology over a 40 year period the way he compares history human pyscology and great litreture as exampled for his points really resonate with me Having sai that i also am fortunate to be able to enjoy and benifit from most of your points of view ? Yes there are dofferances betteween JP and yourself as yourself and Thomas Sowell whos you spoke about recently Personaly i look for the similarities this gets me pointed towards subnects to pay future attention to ? As regards staring ive noticed that people who have active and agile critical thinking abilities ie musicians often have a stare ore look whist engaging ? Ive always put this down to being engaged 100% ? Ive not met JP but would love to perhaps one day if the time is right Thank you for your observations ive found your talks very interesting Keep it up squire

Related, but not directly, there is also a high co-morbidity between Gender Dyphoria and Autism Spectrum Disorder. A common feature of many ASD people's coping/learning stategies is intense roleplay. In order to understand topics they are interested in but confused by, they will get way WAY more bodily and mentally involved in the topic than a neurotypical person might. It looks a lot like auto-didactic method acting.
One might speculate that a not-insignificant portion of Gender Dysphoria or just transgender presentation in people on the autistic spectrum is this sort of 'auto-didactic method acting'.

It isn't hypnotic. It's all in the desire of the person being listened to to have engagement. To be heard, acknowledged, and either scolded or affirmed. The better you can sell that act, the more successful a psychiatrist, counselor, priest, or politician you will be. People will make you wealthy and powerful if you can convince them you're really listening. It makes them assume that you care.
