- Nothing in ice fishing is as exciting as watching a big walleye stalking your bait on camera and finally pouncing on it! I absolutely love fishing with an underwater camera and Iv'e learned a lot about how to set up for success when it comes to walleyes (as well as other species.) Underwater cameras are not only fun to use, but they also can teach you so much about fish behavior that you would never learn any other way. Follow along in this video as I first capture a couple great walleyes on film underwater, and then dive deep into the tactics I use to find spots that will work for this technique as well as show you the exact gear I use. Lets go fishing!

Great tip on the minnow type to keep it in frame! If we ever get ice in SE WI I’ll have to try that!
Makes a difference!
This is the second video I'm watching from you and I'm really liking it/your channel already.
I can see you're very genuine, down to earth and quite sincere. 👌
I'm now a subscriber and while I dont have much time to watch many more videos today, I'm absolutely postive I'll be bingeing on some more soon. Lol.
Cheers to tight lines and deep hooks! 👊
Thanks so much! I appreciate that and I hope you enjoy the channel.
Excellent quality of work, thank you for your efforts 👌
Thanks!
I keep thinking about buying one of those cameras if for nothing else just to see what's under me and find the weed line. I love that you can watch how fish react to the bait and and the way your twitching the bait.
You can learn a lot!
great catches!!
Thanks!
Jeeze look at all the fish there. Great footage. We love our AquaVu camera we use on our channel as well. We have had Zero luck with Walleye this season but hoping to hook up again tomorrow. Where are you located? Liked a subbed
Thanks so much! I’m here in northern Wisconsin. Today was the first day this season that we legitimately got on a decent walleye bite. Been crazy warm and we couldn’t get to a lot of our spots till last week.
Great video!! We just bought our first camera for the upcoming season. Can I ask how far do you have the camera from your bait? Just wondering how close we need to be to get footage but no scare the fish. I know water clarity will also play a roll. Thank you
Thanks! I typically shoot for about 2’-3’
Great underwater footage man! Enjoyed it
Thanks Nick!
Thanks Caleb. I like the tips on the types of minnows to use. I also like the tip on pointing the camera at a slight upward angle; I'm not sure if my camera has that capability, but I'll investigate once I get my gear ready for the season.
I've often had fish get tangled in the camera cable and wished that I had some kind of foot pedal that I could use to pull up the camera. Have you ever seen any gadget that does this? Or have you ever tried to make one? I'm not an engineer, but was thinking that there must be some way to amplify a 1 foot step down (on a pedal) into a 6 foot pull up (on the camera cable).
Great lessons! Thanks again, Dave
I’ve lost a few fish in the cable as well. I think you are right. The world needs a camera cable puller. lol.
Ok, now that I'm retired I'll think on this. If I figure anything out I'll let you know. Dave@@calebwistad
do islands apply as structure or later in the season when panfish are a bit deeper would a sunken tree be a good spot?
Absolutely. Islands are great structure and sunken trees are ideal.
Hey, great video and information. I have no experience with a camera, so here's a question out of pure ignorance: if the camera has infrared, is external light a non-factor, or does the infrared not work that great in deeper water/dark conditions?
Thanks! The infrared provides all the light you need, even in the dark. The one issue with any light, infrared or otherwise, that I have seen is that it magnifies particles in the water 10x. Oftentimes even in water you can see great in in natural light, it’s much harder to see past all the “snow” in the water with a light.
How do you like the vulture system?
Absolutely love them. They are the only indicators I use.
Can you please explain or define a vulture system. Thank you, Dave
