    I just got one of these cameras too! Brilliant short selected scenes. The camera is not very good in low light nor even on cloudy days, but that's to be expected with a small chip camera. For what it lacks in image quality in certain scenarios, it gains with Panasonic's robust controls and tuning, and 4K-60p. I am very pleased so far. I have not tried the CINE-D scene file yet, I've just been messing around with various settings under F1 Standard, but this looks good.

      Having a second battery and charger is standard practice for most photographers. Are you OK with just the one included 4 hr battery and in-camera charging? I'd feel unprepared if I didn't have a spare, but a second Panasonic battery and charger is painfully expensive.

    • @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
      @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER  4 года назад +1

      I agree, you can get aftermarket batteries for these cameras. But the 4+hr life is great, as long as you turn it off as often as you can, it should last a day out.
      It's more surprising that it lasts that long with a fan running inside cooling the processor.
      The only thing I think the camera lacks is at least a 1" sensor like most in its class. Needing to bump up the gain adds noise which isn't great.
      I'm still not sure I'll keep this, also been looking at the Sony FDR Ax700

    • @CentralPennRailProductions
      @CentralPennRailProductions 4 года назад +1

      I agree about the 1" sensor. I think Panasonic could have hit it out of the park bringing their 1" sensor into the compact design, for which I would have gladly taken the sacrifice in zoom range. The UX180 is just too big of a camera for me, I tried one out and had a hard time running and gunning, which is really the selling point for the X1500/2000, not to mention the UX180 is a much higher price. I am coming from a Sony AX100, so I've noticed quite a bit in terms of noise in the X1500 where the AX100 would have performed better. However, for my preferences, I wanted the option to shoot in 4K-60p, which Sony cameras currently lack. If Sony releases a new camera this year the improves upon AX700 I am most certainly selling my X1500 and buying the Sony. But for now, I chose the X1500 over the GH5 since run-and-gun is important to me, rather than dealing with the time, maintenance, and expense of interchangable lenses, but I think I could get use to the X1500 and perhaps some day pick up a GH5 with a standard lens for low-light scenarios. The X1500 is almost there, but alas, there may never be a "perfect" camcorder in the prosumer price point. But one thing I will say, here are life-saving features on Panasonic cameras that Sony camcorders of similar price/model lack: Customizable User Buttons, Pre-recording, Scene File modification, Dual SD card slots, and Longer Battery Life. I'm sure there are more, but those are the big ones for me. I will say though, the onboard audio for the X1500 is terribly noisy with my Rode Stereo VideoMic X, so I ordered a Beachtek preamp to hopefully solve that issue. I found that the audio on the Sony AX100 was just fine without a preamp, using my Rode mic on -10db with adjusted manual camera settings.

  • @CentralPennRailProductions
    @CentralPennRailProductions 4 года назад +1

    So what mic are you using? Your audio signal sounds so clear (no hissing). This camera is a hiss nightmare for me, both in audio jack and XLR handle set up. Doesn't seem like a mic issue, as I have no issues getting enough gain from the mic into my Sony AX100 with onboard levels low enough to keep the noise floor down. Even at -30db on the X1500, it's a nightmare, same with -40db on the XLR. Wonder if I just got a bad camera... (using a Rode Stereo videomic X at -10db or 0db, ideally I'd use +20db, but that clips with the loud train noises since it is such a sensitive mic).

    • @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
      @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER  4 года назад

      I have a Rode video mic pro and video micro, with Gain +2. So far no issues. Into standard 3.5mm port.

      @@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER Interesting. I'm borrowing a Tascam DR-70D now, audio is great with this. The camera must have a defective preamp, was getting unbearable noise even when a lot of sound was present.

    • @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
      @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER  4 года назад

      Yes you may have a camera issue, so far I've had no noise issues, even with internal camera gain. Looking at some other mics now, the Shure Vp83f being one for remote audio recording to an SD card to be added in post for correct sound. Got a few things in the process atm. Keep the vids coming too! :)

      Try FLUO profile setting try not to add more than about 18db gain, you have to remember this camera does have a small sensor so it's not great in low light compared to say a 1" sensor. It's the only downfall really.

  • @bazza1041

    Pity they didn't add bluetooth as well. what i did was get a bluetooth unit and stuck it under the handle below front handle light. The cable from the mike into the input socket on the camcorder and the bluetooth unit to the output earphone socket. This allows me to use a bluetooth headphone and now not tethered to the camcorder. Works well and no cables to trip over, or even to pull the camcorder over if on a tripod.

    Hi there. The footage looks great! Nice detail and colour rendition. Great! I'm hoping to finally replace my 2 old (but very reliable) Canon XF300 with maybe a couple of Panny X1500 and I would like to make sure that the 1080p from the X1500 is better than what I get from my XF300 (I think it could be) and that the low light performance (I never shoot in the dark but low light a bit sometimes) is better than what I get now with the XF300. I never go over 12db gain. How is the Panny HC-X1500 in low light? what other camcorder offers better low light than this one? I think a 1inch camcorder on paper would be better but I don't want to struggle with focus in the middle of a concert or dance recital. Camcorders give me much more depth of field than DSLRs etc...thanks for sharing

      It's very good quality, being optical, the issue would only be the F stop drop over the length of 300m. It's not great in low light unless the lens is wide with its F1.8 wide open.

      @@LostDepot I guess it depends what you need from said camera, long dance optical zoom, 4k, 1080p, 2.7k, the editing software you use weather it's compatible.
      I like the hcx1500 although it does have a small sensor and while it's F1.8 at the wide end, it does loose light as you zoom in. I think for the price there are better cameras, but it does depend on what youre planning video wise.

The outdoor daylight footage looks great! But many cameras look great in good lighting! I just need a camcorder for concerts and dance recitals. Camcorders are very usable in some events. Thanks
