The important Russian tradition you've left out is not drinking vodka, but drinking tea. Hot tea is the traditional Russian beverage. There's a whole culture in Russia around it.

Erm what about kievan rus? what about the novgorod republic? I also want to mention the honourable legacy of Ivan iii and his patronage in establishing connection with renassiance italy. Russia had always been the great European power of the North via the fortunate location it has in the Baltic sea trade, till the Swedish ruined the party by establishing themselves as the power in the Baltic sea instead.

03:24 cause that log cabin inside is the actual thing. the brick pavilion outside was built like 200 years later to preserve the original one from weather.

It was a bit of a surprise to find out that there was a double cabin situation! Makes it even more interesting that Peter was living in such a simple cabin before the city (and palaces) were built.

Once you enter Russia (from the airport) you do not need to pass through immigration again, so no, you don’t need to pass through immigration on the train from Moscow to St P. Check Russia’s regulations, many countries suggest or require that you carry your passport with you at all times.

A special Beard Tax was also introduced by Peter the Great to make people look neater and more European-like. I wish it happened again. The modern fashion on beards is still considered far conservative by many.

@@howtotravel-tv I want so badly to travel to St Petersburg and Tsarskoe Selo. Is it worth staying in a hotel in Tsarskoe Selo for one night and St, P for 5 or 6 nights and Moscow for 3 or 4 nights? Great video.

robert123 thanks for watching! We didn’t spend time at Tsarkoe Selo (passed by on the train to Pushkin). If you go in the summer, I would spend more time around St P to see more palaces (including Peterhof). But, you might not need to stay outside of town; the train seems to be efficient to most of the palaces. Enjoy!

Yes, because socialism killed 10s of millions in Russia, and that is a great road map for America. Socialism in the USSR was the same as Venezuela today.

@@RonaldReaganRocks1 on the other hand, there was no racism in the USSR, racism came to Russia in the 90s from murica. and when the ussr existed, the americans didn't killed as many people as they did in senseless wars in the middle east over the past 30 years, americans have killed millions of colored people and you were silent. Do you know how many people died under capitalism? Do you know how many die from overdose and from a gun in America every year? more than russians under socialism.
