Hayes HD with a Detroit 8v92, owned by Ian Munson, Weewane Trading. I drove there for a few days to spell someone off. That particular haul really, really sucked. lol
@rockinpiano1 you would have to swivel the truck bunk 90 degrees as well and drop the trip pin. Leave the one side unfolded and load the trailer by the lifting loop. Its done quite often. Its done around here like that quite a bit.
A lot of us here have driven log truck and we like to think of the good old days but watching him bounce around coming down that grade made me happy that I'm retired. I was wanting to see how they loaded his trailer because there was no way he was going to back up that grade with the trailer down.
Wow captain! Just plain WOW!!! What nerve that driver has! Looks SO GNARLY! I sure hope you still can read this thank you for posting amazing content for us ! Your job looks amazing and difficult and I just wish I was around then to learn from guys like you! I live in California and BC Loggin looks like incredible guys doing incredible things!
@gangesexcavating I see, said the blind man. Thanks for the info. Agnew Timber Company had off highway trucks in the Brookings, Oregon area back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. They were single drives, as I remember, but they could get 25,000 to 30,000 bf on a load. I know it was impressive when you came around a corner and here one came, it looked like the whole forest was moving! They dumped across a cement brow log into a pond. The pond is gone but the cement brow log is still there.
@rockinpiano1 the 980B shown in the video would put that trailer on by swiveling the trailer bunk 90 degrees and side loading it. You could end load it to by releasing the compensator and sliding the bogies to the far rear.. Often a dump loader has a hook on the grapple jaw front.
@@DaveyCrockett001 Ian is George's son. Bear Creek Contracting out of Terrace. Didn't work on this show but did work for them a couple of different times over the years.
Not sure whos show it was. Canadian was flying into Shute lake and it was coming down to the sea by truck. They were finishing up the job there. We did some towing for them there then had charge of thier barge to Prince Rupert and on to the Nass river were they flew logs to our barge. I have video of early helilogging, I well put some up a little later on......
This was in 1994 it would have been George Munson then. I think... i believe it was Bear Creek logging. We were under charter to Canadian helicopterAt the time.
@1:38 stakes are in the trailer, then all of a sudden at 1:48 they are gone and then loader pushes the log off the trailer, so where'd the stakes go????
Because there are no roads out of places like this. The logs have to be boomed or barged to civilization. Nothing to do with storing per se. In fact, storing in salt water leaves logs vulnerable to Teredos. When possible, logs are trucked directly to mills for dry sort and processing.

Nerves of steel and knowing your job well for sure.
Them old boys probably left footprints in the floorboards
All "loggers" in the south east US need to watch this so they can stop bragging about nothing...
That’s a big for sure! 😀🙁
They can quit manufacturing drama anytime now.
It gets really interesting when it's snowing!

Ya, how the hell did he get turned around?
@@DaveyCrockett001 you so called equipment operators don’t need to know that.
back in the day, many logging trucks had no doors why? getting out real quick!
Sure - jump out when your brakes fail and get flattened by 100,000 lbs of logs. Sounds like fun.
I’ve heard stories of guys “abandoning ship” and then the truck doesn’t crash like they thought it would. How embarrassing would that be......😳
this is real interesting work not sitting at computer all 5 days in a week doin same shit from morning till evening...
this is real man life

Nice steep road with switchbacks and the load was swaying a bit too...
Is that an old pacific p16?

When in the cab, every bump and tilt of the truck is amplified 7 fold! Trust me I know.

Yep, Dangerous job logging...
Good little bit of video there. Is this Ian Munson's operation. Bear Creek Contracting.
No, it's George Munsons operation.

Bear Creek Contracting from Terrace. I worked for them in the past but not on this show.
@rockinpiano1 nothing moves wood more efficiently like a good off-highway truck except for a railway, and we have that too on Vancouver Island.

They "trip the stakes" meaning that they hinge. Good down allowing the load to be pushed off.
they were just tripped on the other side .
You wouldn't want to loose the brakes on that decent.
They're relying much more on engine retarders & such
Steep and rough. Just don't mess up!
Balls of steel!!
Contractor special😎
Tight switchback
cool it's mudrunner irl
why do they dump the logs into the water?
It's the best way to store them, to prevent cracking.
It can also be used as a method of transportation - the logs float.
