From the stat min/maxing, the Cursed Shield, hidden characters to find, the Coliseum, the auctioning, the unique special ability that is characteristic of the character, very powerful relics that completely change the value of a character and playstyle, it's one of the golden standards of how to make a RPG. FFVI deserves a remake into current gen. I'm loving the new animations, but I wish they gave us the option to switch to the original audio. I'm not liking a lot of the re-imagined sound effects and background music.
The problem with a remake is that no one has the patience for a traditional RPG like this to remain original, great and new at the same time. Instead they'd have to opt for (subjectively) crappy new hybrid. If that's the case then just make a new game completely.
I'm kinda annoyed that they haven't put this on Xbox, playstation, or Nintendo. Like what are they waiting for... 🙄 I'm ready to replay this on my console of choice and get my achievement.
I want this collection so bad, but I am just not prepared to play them on my phone. I genuinely hope we get these on Switch. I wouldn't even hesitate if they did.
🤦 Just get a controller for your phone with a clip and viola! iPhone Switch. If you have a PS4 Controller buy a phone clip. Buy a cable if you want to play on your TV. I used to play the last FF6 remaster everyone hated for some reason. 🤷 I thought the visuals were fine. I would prefer the smoothness of the previous remaster but with the sprite style we have here like the original. They censored the beating on Celes in the jail though. 🤦

The opera voice over was good especially the opening "O" verse sounded like the orignal game except now we get the whole extended voice version from that "O" And Celeste voice over was pleasent, simple and sweet. notting over the top. Well Done:) I really like this remade opera scene over the original;)
Personally I thought the opera worked well and was beautiful. I mean it makes sense for celes to not be a very good singer. And the reason they’ve sounded good before is those are covers. They’re getting professionals. This is the original.
I want the content from the GBA versions. One of my only negatives regarding FF6 is the lack of optional super bosses so common in series, it is so easy to get op in the game and there is no ultra hard dungeon and bosses to flex that in. I love in FF7 getting so powerful that the Secret Weapon bosses become easy. Plus some (SOME) of the prior FF6 had graphics that in some cases (not character sprites for sure) that look even better than this remaster. It is 2022 and we still don't have a definitive edition of FF6 like we do with all the others (save perhaps 5 and now with the new soundtracks save perhaps 1-4 as well) argghh!
I enjoyed the opera house vocals. The entire scene was like my childhood on steroids. I liked that the vocals were actual vocals and that Celes was doing her best impression of a stage performer and singer. She made it her own. 0% issues with that scene. My eyes were misty and had a smile on my face the whole time. Im loving this remaster!
This is my favorite game of all time, I am going to hold off a little, I would like this on my switch. I have had my PS2 hook up since I got it new to basically just replay the PS1 version of the game again and again.
I just really hope that by the time I get around to playing it I can have the vocals set to Italian. The funkiness of the English vocals is completely gone, and given how opera originated in Italy it only seems fitting.
Final Fantasy 6 is my single favorite jrpg of all time. This was the first jrpg that I ever played, and I have always loved it. I make a full playthrough of the game at least once a year. I have played the pixel remaster in full on switch, and I love it. I don't have a problem with the font. I did experience some sound quality issues, though. At times, the game wouldn't play weapon or magic sound effects during battle. At other times, the game would not play the fight music. Overall it is really good remaster of the game and considering that I payed less than $9 for a digital version of the game on the switch e-shop, it was well worth the money to me.
One scene they changed... and it really takes away from the moment on the SNES. When Celes is in the cell, she get beaten up by the guards until she falls down. This new version, the guards say the same Lines... as if they are beating her... but they are not...
You can easily fix the font by replacing en. Fonts with jp ones. There are many many online guides if you want detailed explanation and it works on all 6 versions. Edit: using jp fonts will not change the language you see it in just replace it with a much cleaner font.
One of my first and favorite FF.... That game is simply epic and back in its time it was ahead of most other games in music. And the opera scene? Super fun times back then.
Man I always love ur fantasy videos. ESP. ESPPPPP the old school titles! Plsssss keep making FF videos on a routine basis! Ur passion for FF is just unique and unmatched ! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
The font doesn’t really bother me, but seems it would be an easy update down the line. They should at least give you a font option. I remember the original you could customize the background color of the font.
4 got a remake.... 7 too... they will try to "revamp" 1... I think the filosophy they had making ff9, applied on a ff5 remake (the last FF with the "old school" job system) should be cool... but, for FF6 they need to make that a blast, something near 7remake, but with 6 vib, art, etc. lets wait til time shows what we can get.
I completely agree. I love Final Fantasy VII but Final Fantasy VI for me is again a mobile escape from reality right now. This is the second best JRPG in history besides the wall-breaking religious and philosophical no.1 in gaming history -> Xenogears by SquareSoft. Game that changed my life. Best regards from Poland in Europe
While I appreciated (and enjoyed) the ambition of the changes, the redone Opera scene felt a little unfinished to me. If they wanted to achieve that cinematic flex that they seemed to be going for, I think they could have done a little better by dissolving when they changed camera angles instead of cutting, as well as maybe throwing in some of that shallow depth of field effect that was all over Octopath. On the singing, I feel like the weirdness you heard may have had more to do with the post-production than the actual performer. To me, it was in this "uncanny valley" typical of art that's processed to the point where it doesn't quite feel natural anymore. The thing that annoyed me more about the text than the font (which is pretty dang annoying) was how it was rendered. In the SNES release, I remember text being rendered letter by letter. Here, you typically get entire boxes at once which removes the conveyance of a speaker's pace that was a subtle but really cool effect.
I wonder if FF6 full scale remake would be good. It has potential to be amazing. The story is easily the best of the console versions, but would they waste that potential on the wrong things if fully remade?
@@GeorgeZimmermen Which is purely economics running amok! Pushing a mediocre RPG that just happened to be most popular due to its eye candy (at the time) and childish nostalgia today over a masterpiece of storytelling and music that actually deserves it!
I like your channel you have great content and your reviews are so pure it's like you say what you truly feel (which is rare these days) love you keep going👌
I think the Pixel Remasters are the best versions of the classic Final Fantasy games. They keep the spirit of the originals but modernize where the games really lacked. I really like the music of the remasters - the originals were top for their time but personally I think that the music orchestrated sounds still the best. That is also the reason why I was in the concerts of Distant Worlds several times. It is also nice that they adjusted the UI to have time saving features which make the grind of the originals more tolerable. I just wished that they would have consulted some better UX/UI guys for a better text style. And if you consider the prices for these remasters it is a very good price-value ratio.
Thanks for this. Have played pretty much every FF besides this one.. Been on the fence about purchasing this for my iPad Air. Just might do it now. Really loved playing Chrono Trigger on it for the first time and think this will be a similar experience.
This game is a masterpiece and not only one of the best games on the Super Nintendo but one of the greatest games of all time! I hope younger people will actually play this and take in the story as I once did 30 years ago as a teenager. Hopefully it’ll open their eyes to see that FF7 isn’t by any means as amazing as they once thought and will understand why so many of us who are old enough to have been around to play (and understand) this game when it was released praise it so much today.
Isn't it funny how nostalgia shapes our perspective on certain games. I started with FF 7 and it took years to get to FF6. When I did I stopped playing halfway through because it annoyed me with all the character swaps. Took about 5 years to complete it. In saying that if I played it during the SNES era I would have loved it and probably feel the same. I like the game now but when I stand back objectively I actually think 9 is the best out of all the Final Fantasies. I would be down for a 2d HD remake of 6 though, and 4, that would be awesome
FF6 is critically the most acclaimed game in the series. From top to bottom it's the most complete and closest to perfect as an RPG gets. Music, plot, game play, character development and Villian are among the best out there.
It's a shame that SquareEnix didn't include the extra content from the GBA version + the uncensored sprites + the beat up scene. This is far from being the best version of FF6 IMHO.
this game was the foundation that changed my entire love of videogames. before this was Super Metroid, Mega Man X 1-4. i played FF3 which i rented from Albertsons in the early mid 90s.
100% agree about the font. What were they thinking? Its llike they just took the same font as the numbers, which look fine for the numbers and just used it everywhere else. Didn't they do something similar with some DS or 3DS remakes? I dont know it feels familiar but I cant put my finger on it.
The Chrono Trigger rerelease had the shitty font too. I don’t see why they can’t make a font more similar to the original, especially with the increased resolution
I wish there was a way to just zoom out a little. Like with the other pixel remasters, it feels like the original version, but cropped for widescreen or something.
I feel like the sprite work was slightly lacking compared to the iOS version. Especially when comparison is drawn with Terra and Cyan. Kefka also looked better with a red cape that didn’t have any green on it. The rest of the sprite work was a good mash up of the original and the iOS, but I still wish characters would look more like what Amano drew, as was the case for Edgar, Relm and Banon. Another thing that he was missing from the iOS version, which was passed on from the GBA, was the use of character faces for PCs and NPCs alike. We’re also depraved of the Dragon’s den that, while it didn’t give us any continuation of the story, at least gave us something to do after defeating the final boss. These aren’t fatal flaws that make it bad, but certainly trade-offs that make it less appealing to play. 9.5 out of 10 is way too generous IMHO.
I agree that a pixel remaster is satisfying - all told, the HD-2D art style has been enjoyable for Octopath and looks good in Triangle Strategy but I don't think it is a wholesale upgrade to old school pixel art presentation. Case in point - Live A Live - the HD-2D art looks great, but seeing it side-by-side with the super famicom presentation, I am 50/50 on whether I prefer it and might lean slightly to the original.
My biggest gripe with it is they didn't fix the awful Esper stat boost progression system that punishes you for leveling up before you have an Esper that gives +2 Strength or +2 Magic. I hate having to do a low-level game until I get those Espers, but I'm OCD enough that I feel compelled to do it for the sake of min maxing.
If this game is like the others you will already steam roll the enemies. Min/Max will not be required. It never bothered me too much I was always switching espers to make sure every character knew as much magic as possible.
Celes is no longer being beat up by the soldiers in South Firago. I believe its because during the release of the gba version, some Japanese teens were kidnapped and beaten in a smiling fashion.
I have the right to voice my opinion about Final Fantasy because I been a Final Fantasy Fan since FF8, FF9, FF7, FF10, FF12, FF14 online, FF15, FF7 remake, and then the old classics FF3, FF4, and FF5. I know how to speak the truth without being biased, and here is the ultimate judgment on FF6 from today's standards. Final Fantasy 6 is a classical masterpiece. However, it deserved an HD remake and the game has been around for so long that people can't complain about re-emulating the original experience. The new generation of gamers won't be able to appreciate and understand the classical importance of Final fantasy 6 because of the times and advancements we came from the original NES. However, if you judge the game from RPG standards of the Super Nes Era, this game is top tier of its class. It would be this game justice to give it the remake of 2023 it truly deserves so people from this generation can appreciate the game some more. If Star Ocean 2nd story on the playstation 1 platform can get an awesome remake, please tell me why FF6 can't get the same attention and detail?!.
I expected more from the soundtrack, maily from the tracks that used the organ, I have to say I prefer my church organ covers of The opening theme and Dancing Mad, but who cares anyway?
I'm gonna be honest, I still kinda prefer the original chiptunes for the music, and I think the super high-res text sticks out a bit and kinda wish it actually had a blockier font, but in general this looks like an excellent version of one of my all time favorite games. Now they just need to do a similar updated port of Chrono Trigger... And if FFVII Remake is any indication of how they'd do it, I'm content to never have a FFVI remake.
This is something I would definitely play, but for console. I don’t play games on Steam because I only have a work laptop. Hopefully they release a console version.
As a spanish speaker, and being 16 years old when it came out, I didn't know the translation was bad. Now, living in the U.S. and being better at English, I really don't see the difference between the original and this upgraded version. What I'm saying is, that when I was young, I understood it in its form back then, the same way I understand it in it's form today. Weird, I know, but I feel that for me it tells the same story and I understand it the same. I'm sure if I go back to the SNES version, I'll probably see what's wrong with it.
FF6 is my favorite FF game. I'm thinking about playing this remaster on my phone, but I'm sad that it doesn't include Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine. So, if I finish the game, it just ends, like the SNES and PS1 version?

FFVI deserves a remake into current gen. I'm loving the new animations, but I wish they gave us the option to switch to the original audio. I'm not liking a lot of the re-imagined sound effects and background music.
FF6 doesnt need a remake
The problem with a remake is that no one has the patience for a traditional RPG like this to remain original, great and new at the same time. Instead they'd have to opt for (subjectively) crappy new hybrid. If that's the case then just make a new game completely.
I just want a HD-2D remake, leave the combat alone and give me those beautiful visuals.
I played a bit of FFVI. Real interesting story. Gotta get back into playing it someday.
Same
I mean FFVI is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, SE would have to actively try to ruin it
...Though that has happened before...
There's already a mod so you can have the font from the SNES version, it looks way better. Loving this version of the soundtrack so far.
@@LEXICON-DEVIL I'm good. I actually don't play any games on my phone. Too much of a battery killer. I have a Switch for gaming on the go. If they get released on the Switch, I'll be first in line to download (or preferably purchase them in the unlikely event that they make a physical copy of the collection).
@@MrBergste 😆 Battery killer? Bro it's a SNES game. Just say you want it on Switch cus you hate playing on your phone. Don't act like it's a hassle.
@@LEXICON-DEVIL lol even though playing sudoku or solitaire will drain a battery, yeah ok. They're "only SNES games." Look, I'm happy for ya. I genuinely hope you enjoy them on your phone. But don't get pissy with people just because they don't want to play games on a specific platform simply because you do. It's ridiculous and childish behavior.
@@MrBergste Pissy? I was literally laughing when you said battery killer. I'm just telling you to be straight up really. Don't make bullshit excuses. It's totally understandable if you don't want to play on your phone. Never said it wasn't........but battery killer 😆
The font for these pixel versions always grossed me out. Would love to see an HD-2D remaster of this game tho.
Never understood why anyone complains about the Font. Pixel Remaster text is crisp and clear.
You can fix the font in less than one minute. Just so you know.
I did! SNES like font
Square needs to release this on the consoles and all of the Pixel remasters for that matter.
They have a money printer they just need to do it.
I remember the original you could customize the background color of the font.
bro you really need to change the font, it's easy
I always thought the Opera song scene sounded funky haha! Cool review 👍🏻
Seeing Zozo again brought back my PTSD from that town lol
hey love the reviews but you've been using objectively wrong for the past few vids my dude.
Final Fantasy 6 is my favourite Final Fantasy and also my favourite SNES rpg.
That font is HORRENDOUS. What UI designer thought that thinass text is ok?! It should be the font they used for HP
Though I'm still hopeful for an HD-2D remakes of Final Fantasy I-VI, the pixel remasters will do for now.
I fixed the font in less than 10 minutes. Not a huge issue
Playing it now. Loving every minute of it.
Can we all agree the opera scene is on the best moments in story telling history?
FFVI doesn’t need a remake. It’s fine as is!
HD-2D still the way to go for a remake.
this is where i come for all the latest Dreamcast content
Hope this game also get a remake like 7
@@GeorgeZimmermen Which is purely economics running amok!
Releasing this review while the rest of the internet is exploding with Elden Ring deserves some praise :D
Seeing a fellow warrior of light, nods.
OG FF6 still looks way better than this, not sure what they were thinking here
I think the Pixel Remasters are the best versions of the classic Final Fantasy games.
The PSP version of FF4 is very good
Thanks for this. Have played pretty much every FF besides this one.. Been on the fence about purchasing this for my iPad Air. Just might do it now. Really loved playing Chrono Trigger on it for the first time and think this will be a similar experience.
This is my favorite final fantasy video game . It’s the most that stay true to the origins of fantasy castles and magic
Gonna just emulate the gba versions now that I know they left out the extra content
this game was the foundation that changed my entire love of videogames. before this was Super Metroid, Mega Man X 1-4. i played FF3 which i rented from Albertsons in the early mid 90s.
Still my favorite final fantasy game. Please come to consoles
I’ve played this one so many times but I would no doubt buy it again if it came out on the switch too.
"This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man."
The Dude
Question is this Final Fantasy 6 on the Nintendo DS?
Please do a Must purchase on the eShop for the DS before it shuts down.
Thanks bro 👌🏽👊🏽
This gives me so much hope. Thank you !
The best game in the series. My favorite RPG ever
My very first FF game, played on SNES, love it!
I want FF VI with triangle strategy graphics on consoles ^^
I really hope someone combines the assets from this remaster and combines it with the fan made T-Edition
This would be the best version to me if I hadn't played Final Fantasy 6 t-edition
The Opera scene sounded awesome
Fighting Kefka in ff14 was awesome
My biggest gripe with it is they didn't fix the awful Esper stat boost progression system that punishes you for leveling up before you have an Esper that gives +2 Strength or +2 Magic. I hate having to do a low-level game until I get those Espers, but I'm OCD enough that I feel compelled to do it for the sake of min maxing.
If this game is like the others you will already steam roll the enemies. Min/Max will not be required. It never bothered me too much I was always switching espers to make sure every character knew as much magic as possible.
@@DarthCuda That’s not the point. Every FF is a face roll. Some of us literally can’t not care about how high the numbers go.
Yes this is the best version of Final Fantasy 6 but can Square Enix please give us a full 3d remake of the game in like Final Fantasy 7 remake Style?
Ive been expecting that suplex, nice
Celes is no longer being beat up by the soldiers in South Firago. I believe its because during the release of the gba version, some Japanese teens were kidnapped and beaten in a smiling fashion.
Can't wait for your Elden Ring review. Sitting at 97. Really want to see your take!
FF6 is best RPG game in history
FF6 deserves a remake. With FF7 you can already imagine how it was in modern graphics with all the spinoffs it had.
Elden Ring just received but I won't play until I see the review Dreamcast guy has power over me
I expected more from the soundtrack, maily from the tracks that used the organ, I have to say I prefer my church organ covers of The opening theme and Dancing Mad, but who cares anyway?
I'm gonna be honest, I still kinda prefer the original chiptunes for the music, and I think the super high-res text sticks out a bit and kinda wish it actually had a blockier font, but in general this looks like an excellent version of one of my all time favorite games. Now they just need to do a similar updated port of Chrono Trigger...
And if FFVII Remake is any indication of how they'd do it, I'm content to never have a FFVI remake.
it's my most favorite FF of all time.
Did you understand when Celes tried to take her own life by jumping off a cliff? In the snes version they changed into a leap of faith 😂
I have no idea who you are, but that thumbnail makes you look like the guy from the goonies that was chained up in the basement
SABIN, suplex that train!
FF6 is my favorite FF game. I'm thinking about playing this remaster on my phone, but I'm sad that it doesn't include Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine. So, if I finish the game, it just ends, like the SNES and PS1 version?
If Final Fantasy 6 gets a glorious remake, SquareEnix needs to cast Mark Hamill as Kefka.
