I have been searching for a song for working on power chords with. Then suddenly I got an urge to listen to an acoustic version of Everlong (Foo Fighters). Found my song.
Unbelievable tutorial. I’ve learn more in the past 10 minutes than the past year. So well explained that I feel the power in these power chords. You deserve 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hey Lauren, Jamie here...good course. What's setting me on my ear is when you say "B5" or "A5" etc...and I look at the fretboard...I count A string (open) ...1st fret should be A#, 2and fret B, 3rd fret C...
What an upload, truly thanks. So much clarity provided over many illusion i thought can never be understood. Especially because i'm not a Guitarist. Like the Chika Chika used in Nirvana song. I wondered how that part sound so complex. Loved your share, thank you so much. Keep doing what you do as you do it the best. Massive Love from our end. 👌👍♥
Hi pretty late to this but just seen--playing for one week now and loving it but I am struggling to get my 3rd finger to stretch over and I don`t even have small hands. Perseverance I hope.
Revisiting this lesson. I forgot the G to 5th string G5. Moving this shape up and down the fret board . Thanks again , you explain this theory very well. Thanks again 🙂
i started in 1987, yeah, i'd like to of had these lessons, try learning by watching MTV & catch hand shapes from the likes of EVH, Zack wylde, slash, angus, rob beech, mick mars, C.C. De ville, frank hammon, dimebag, satch, hammet, ect. it wasnt easy. lol
What can I say Lauren "You rock " ! So well described & demonstrated. I actually have Teen spirit as one of my ringtones and now I can play it lol Thanks, regards Andrew
Really enjoy you lessons Lauren. I use to be mostly strumming and have learned so much more watching your videos. Am getting a really big kick out of picking and the various formats and applications. Am a senior that enjoys advancing and growing with the guitar. Struggling with the power chords though. Not enough strength to do the Barr. Keep the lessons coming though. You are one of the best.
@@LaurenBateman Never heard about it before. Is it an american label? And do you play western or nylon strings? My fingers are hurting so badly when I play western. Will it get better someday? Have a nice day
Hi, Lauren. I saw this video and liked it. I am a beginner (53 yo), I've started end of December 2023. I thought you might help me with some advice. I am learning She Sells Sanctuary and I have a problem while playing the main riff. It's played on open D string together with fretted notes on G string ( frets no 14, 12, 11, 7, 5 and 2). My problem is that the open D string note overwhelms the fretted notes on G string (mostly frets 14, 12, 11). This happens when I strum down with a pick (not if I only strum up). Maybe my picking is not proper. If I play fingerstyle, it sounds good (either fingerpick or fingerstrum). But if I play with a pick and strum down, there's that problem I mentioned above. Shall I try to learn palm muting, of shall I try to slightly mute the open D string with one finger from my left hand?
Hi Alex, this is something I would definitely need to hear/see to really give feedback on what might be going on. It could even be the strings themselves. Metal has different sounds and tones.
Hiya Lauren, great intro to power chords, I am curious to know why you didn't use your electric guitar to illustrate the power chords? And you being a singer of songs, I'm guessing that you don't often use power chords? Ger the guitar man Claregalway Galway Ireland.
Mainly because I focus on acoustic on this channel. Even with power chords, they can still be used on acoustic. Anything you can do on electric you can do on an acoustic as well. Also makes it easier to play when you transfer to the electric.
Thank you for the videos Lauren. I picked up a guitar a few weeks back as a lockdown hobby (Canada sucks these days) I have learned a lot from your videos. I have to ask though, who is your favourite Ninja Turtle? The shirt, the figures on display, you have to have one.
Thank you for your awesome lessons, is there any advice you can give me because my ring finger doesn't want to reach the fifth fret. It wants to curl inwards (towards the middle finger) . (Maybe these power chords are not for me..).
You may need to work on some finger dexterity exercises to stretch your hand a little more. See if you search spider exercise Lauren Bateman if something pops up.
Yep. But most students don't know enough about theory to under what a third. Easier to keep it simple for people so they can have fun. I always put fun over theory.
@@LaurenBateman Putting fun over theory doesn't last long to be honest. And it doesn't facilitate growth as a musician that can communicate with other musicians. At some point, learning theory at some level will be necessary if you want to grow.
@missioncreekfarm7715 True, but as a beginner, like myself, I mentioned I practiced power chords to an experienced coworker, and he went off about no I wasn't, 5th this and 3rd that, totally over my head. So I'll take this basic video, and build apon it.

Hello!
Lauren what if you can't stretch the 3rd finger to make the power chord? I find i have to use my pinky.
Some people use their pinky. You may have to work on stretching with some finger exercises.
can you do this video as a reminder but use an Eletric thanks
I'll try working on that

Same for both 😎

what G7? or Am7
These are power chords. 5 chords.
No. It's called an abreviated chord because the 3rd is left out. Only the 1 and 5 are highlighted in the chird, so it is now neither minor nor major.

No
No. No major or minor.
