    My sister and I went back shortly after you shot this video. Our family owned Twin Palm Cottages for a few years when we were kids.

      @@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide It was in the early 70s. We both were going to school at Sanibel Elementary. Very fond memories. back then hardly anyone lived on the island and the place was mostly a jungle.

      @themaverickproject4577 did your family own it right before the Jensen’s took over? Would love to see pics of old Captiva.

      @@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide I believe my family sold it to someone who then sold it to Jensen. We were friends with Jensons and visited them, renting a cottage, ever so often. We were heartbroken when Dave Jensen died.

    We have 4 timeshare units in South Seas and have been coming for over 30 years with our family group of about 25 plus. We evacuated on Tuesday last year a day before the Hurricane. We have been through it before, with a two year reopen delay. This year they claim to be just weeks shy of reopening despite not having swimming pools, golf course, restaurants etc. Not sure why anyone would want to come at this time. We are relieved that we were not asked to use our units, and give the resort's new ownership credit for giving us a credit for this year.
    Captiva is a magical place and we look forward to a full recovery. It will take a few years to regrow much of the natural beauty, but it will be worth the wait. Thank you for the video update 🙂

    SanCap road is bald compared to the beauty that existed when I first moved to Fort Myers in 1973. I find this to be so depressing. The foliage was the beauty, which hid the beautiful houses which you could never see from the road. I lived on Sanibel off Periwinkle in the 80's and we used to party at all the clubs, including Tween Waters and Crow's Nest. Good Times .

    Been down there several times but haven't been to their beaches, only tge ones on Sanibel but I definitely need to check them out. Awesome video, as you folks akways produce! Hey, Doc Fords on Captiva is history, no? Its not coming back?

      We are not sure about Doc Ford’s on Captiva. Once the new owners took over they got rid of all contacted establishments. It is up in the air who will be coming back.Hope they do!

      @@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide Thank you for researching that! I heard on another channel that they were not coming back and that the space they occupied was going to be repourposed to office space and staff related use but thats just second-hand information. We'll see. I really hope they come back too. Loved sitting outside listening to the live musical entertainment! Be safe and be well! Love your channel!

    I heard that they have a Porta-Pottie and a Taco Stand now. And if you bring along a metal detector, you can still find tons of roofing nails.

    Thank you for this video! I am planning my first trip to Sanibel/Captiva. I am so confused because i have read that there are no vehicles allowed on Captiva Island. However, this video is quite contradictory to that. Can someone please confirm for me that vehicles are in fact allowed on the island?

    • @TheSanibelCaptivaGuide
      @TheSanibelCaptivaGuide  3 месяца назад

      Yes 100% vehicles are allowed on Captiva. You drive over a small bridge at Blond Pass to get to Captiva. We did a more recent video last month. Check it out. Enjoy your visit!

    Sad to see the direction things are going but probably inevitable. Going cashless will only hasten the elimination of locals along with much nature and island charm for an overdeveloped private gated playground for a few uber-rich. Its already happening it seems. That said, thanks for the tour.👍

      Sanibel is fighting hard to stay a sanctuary. Just as the city founders intended.
