Great video. Being an Anmore resident since the early 70's, I find any additional information about the area fascinating. And although it may be true (cannot confirm or deny) that the refinery got out of the Grocery business in 1975. It actually remained open until 1995. I'd go there all the time during the 70's and 80's. Owned/run by a man named Denny. Nicest guy you could ever meet, and a great butcher. We'd get all our meat there.
Hey, i am a journalism student and i am doing a story on this town Is there any chance that we can have a chat so i can get some more details from you since you have experienced this area's presence. Lemme know if you are living near vancouver area. Thanks
Just dug up the book "Townsite and Tales" from my school library which featured this area. Had no idea this was such a busy community. Drive by it often and always wondered. Thanks for this!
Wow! You grew up there? How neat! I wish I could live there today. Seems like a place that is close to nature, pretty quiet, probably had some people with great stories and wisdom about the past :)
Wow I didn’t know this is around Port Moody!, it’s sad to see it so abandoned. I’ll have to check it out one day. Also great to know there is a fellow travel youtuber in the Vancouver area!... You have yourself another subscriber good sir. :)
I found a new article that a person of the Ioco land was bought in 2015, but it wasn't clear if there were any immediate plans. Would love to see any development done in a way that respects the heritage of this location.
I believe we used to drink a ton of beer at some lake up that way in the seventies during the warmer months, a beautiful area back then. Someone told me it's all changed now with throngs of people inhabiting the area, funny though we used to pick up our cigarettes and munchies at the groceteria .
Would you have gone to Sasamat Lake or maybe Buntzen? Anmore has grown quite a bit and both lakes are probably a lot busier with people coming from all over the lower mainland.
So if it's a "conservation site" why doesn't city of PM act upon the constant deterioration? smells to me like a possible billions and billions of development is in progress in the future edit: new westminster front street "heritage pier" had an interesting fire years ago and now amazingly full of condos at the end of the missing pier

I was the letter carrier in Ghost Town until 2007. It's a fascinating part of Port Moody.

Nice - Thanks for the info!

That sounds great! I love discovering books in the Local History section - they usually have very interesting stories :)
Interesting story, what a shame it’s in disrepair
Really cool!! It Seems like in Vancouver they board things up better than here. thx for sharing .
Yeah it's pretty well protected, but the area and townsite were still cool to see :)
Really interesting, good stuff. Thank you.
Thanks Randall! Glad you enjoyed it :)
My old hometown. Great place to be a kid!
Seems like it would have been a great little community to live in :)

Cool video. I remember seeing this all the time when going to Buntzen Lake.
Thanks - Most of the buildings are fenced off and boarded up now, but even up to a few years ago it might have been possible to explore a bit more :)

Great to meet you - I haven't run into too many other Vancouver travel vloggers either. I subscribed to your channel so we can keep in touch 😃
Interesting. Always learning about our home province. You'd think as a heritage conservation area it would maintained. Great video -Shawna🍁
It would be awesome to see the townsite restored and turned into a heritage area instead of being redeveloped.
Do Riverview next please. I really appreciate the way you tell the history of these places.
I've been meaning to get there! Definitely on my list of places to visit :)
@@ExitThrutheGiftShop I can't wait to watch it! 😉👍
Thanks for the video. Living nearby for many years and haven’t walked around there once. What a shame 😂
There are still a few residents, but it's mostly deserted! Great place for a walk on a sunny day.
For sure I have to go for an exploration recently. Of course I can share some photos if you are interested:D
Thanks for the video! Well done. I thought the land had been purchased by an investor a few years back? Unsure what became of that deal though.

interesting!
Thanks Greg - It was an interesting area to explore!
OooooOooO I live in Nanaimo BC I’ll have to go there I wanna explore that
It's a pretty cool area. The Groceteria is my favorite!

where's an address so I can get to it?
Right around:
115 1st Ave, Port Moody, BC V3H 3A9
I lived in Port Moody till I was 8 and I never heard of this! Wow! I want to go check it out!
It's a nice area to even just go and walk around :)
I firmly believe this small community can be recovered by the city goverment...and feel they wouldn't need a big investment!
It would be great to see this area preserved and reinvigorated!
I’ve done many photoshoots in that area.
I've always thought it was a cool area :)
@@ExitThrutheGiftShop I have found some secret places down there 🤭

Should be rebuilt and allow veterans use it
Some paint new roofs great pressure wash all the concrete and bricks
Would be nice to see someone renovate and preserve these buildings 👍
