Just saw your video, dearbon dash was done by me in 19.57, I mean that's showing 8:40 at the end of the race, but I had left 8:43, so 0.03 seconds quicker 😅😅. A world record for me tbh 😁
Nice times. The current WR for Dearborn Dash is 19.48. But in general, your game must be played at 60 FPS, otherwise times can be inaccurate. Check out this site if you want to submit a run: www.speedrun.com/midtown1/levels
Awesome job. Such a classic game. You can see in MM2 they did a TON of voice acting with all the diff characters narrating, plus quotes specific to the car and the level (London or San Fran). The narrators really add a sense of "youre playing with many other people" or theres an audience or people all in a room with you. MM1 has better music but MM2 is more polished in almost every way. MM1 is still the OG classic, I like the sense of purity, it has its own appeal. Overall MM2 is a better game but MM1 is the original! Love that people still play this classic early 3D/open world. Like an ancestor of GTA3
Thanks for your nice comment. In fact, Midtown Madness is the predecessor of GTA (Angel Studios was bought by Rockstar San Diego, and the latter used Angel's advanced software tooling). It's also always interesting to see the debate between MM1 and MM2, personally MM1 is my favorite (but that's probably no surprise). According to the developers, MM1 is more polished as they had more time developing it. For MM2, they had less than a year, still a great game though (especially with recent mods).
@@MidtownMadness1 Interesting about the history of Angel. MM1 has a more raw feel, yeah Im sure MM1 was more work to develop since it was built from the ground up & MM2 was an extension. MM1's music is awesome, MM2 music is more background music. MM1 music feels more like real songs and I listen to your MM1 soundtrack a lot. The Chicago setting of MM1 also has more of a homely feel. It brings back a ton of memories of 1998-2004 because Flight Simulator was one of my fav games and the default airport is Meigs Field. Hundreds of hours spent flying around Chicago as a kid in the game. I would also bring the airplanes from Combat Flight Sim 2 into FS 2000/2002 so you could fly legit Microsoft quality warbirds around the modern city. Smashing Pumpkins are also from Chicago, so the whole city is connected to nostalgia. I also checked out the Midnight Club games, the 3rd one onward are cool, but they did not give the sense of raw nostalgia as MM1 & 2. I actually watch playthroughs of MM1 and 2 (some of your videos are in my list, and your "100+ Opponents Race" vid from 8 months ago are hilarious) to fall asleep every night. The volume super low, the drone of the car engine and the "human doggie treat" sound of driving under the checkpoint goalposts. The cartoony skidding and crashing noises, its all so relaxing. "Come on now get to the finish line pal" is etched into my brain. The game footage and sounds feel like "home". I have been watching these vids nearly every night for almost 2 years. There is enough footage where you never get bored and say "Ive seen all this before". The videos are super long and you only need about 20 mins before you're asleep so you never "wear out" the footage. MM is a classic, thanks for responding!
@@generfeld That's very cool! My dad had some Flight Simulator games, but I never played them I do think, or I just don't remember. I think the video "Midtown Madness (1999) is still beautiful" does a great job of bringing the homey feel. And that's awesome, sometimes I forget there's a person watching on the other end and enjoying it during a break, or like something you do, before sleep, it's crazy. It helps for motivating to keep uploading, especially the 100+ opponent is a nice series. Indeed! Thank you as well for the nice comments.
