- 32:25 real time. Most of the timesave was from Oceanlab, otherwise this run was quite similar in pace compared to the old PB. Happy to get sub 31, still some bigger mistakes (unatco hq chapter 2, cathedral, oceanlab-lab, no final elevator skip). The category is pretty amazing so hopefully I can come back and improve it some more another time. Speedrun category any% with user.ini edits.

much like system shock 2, you can just skip the first part medbay by just knowing a door code
By design -- a large chunk of knowing what does what, and what you can do before talking to characters, nets in completely-different dialogue chains and consequences.
I would argue that it's still the first (and only?) time that a game did reactivity to this kind of degree.

I like to think Walton Simons is still hanging out in the lab under the sea, just wondering when JC is going to show up, what he'll eat later, why are the lights suddenly going out ...
When I played through it I avoided Simons by just running past him (not glitching through the walls obviously) in the undersea labs, and he shows back up at the surface of Area 51. So I imagine he's frantically following JC and by the time he catches up the whole internet is already frying itself and everything.

In order to keep his lightning fast speed agent work at terminal velocity, JC didn't spare time to inform Jock about the bomb. So, don't say sacrifices weren't made in this speedrun...

For someone who takes over two weeks to do a full playthrough because I like to go through every interaction, seeing this is almost magical.
Took me 30 hours to beat the game and it was worth it

It's absolutely ridiculous how much time you can save by skipping several primary objectives and questlines altogether. A great run!

I've done a lol cheats run before and this has blown me away.
JC is so augmented that he doesn't even need a torso to take out the conspirators.
Eating chocolate, smoking cigarettes, dying to loot your own corpse, phasing through walls/doors, jumping ridiculously high, etc.

I thought I was familiar with most speedrun tricks for this game, but I have no idea what you've done to skip the Vandenberg section. Guess there's always more to learn.
The exit level trigger for the Vandenberg level is floating in mid-air and still active. If you touch it or a bullet tracer from the assault rifle hits it the cutscene will play as if you had finished the level and it will take you to the gas station. I skilled rifles to advanced, aimed at the right spot and hoped one of the 30 bullet tracers would hit the trigger. Pretty crazy that the developers forgot to deactivate this trigger.
What a shame.

what the hell is happening
Helios, what's happening?!
It is a combination of transferring the inventory to the corpse, reviving JC with save and load, leaving the map without any items, which for some reason gives back some of the items you had previously and finally looting the corpse. This way we can quickly duplicate augmentation upgrade canisters, biocells, medkits, candy bars, (gep gun) ammo and cigarettes. Note that saving and loading to revive JC only works because the user.ini file was edited to get additional save and load keys.

Abhranil Chattopadhyay I used Kentie’s DirectX 10 renderer and Kentie’s launcher from kentie.net. Additionally the user.ini file was edited for more save and load keys, basically binding SaveGame and LoadGame commands to a key. No other mods.

After watching the air force base section around ten times, I still have no idea what is even happening. Great run though!!
First I go into the game options twice to activate superjump. Then I try to reach for the map transport trigger for the Hangar map, which bleeds a bit out of the floating hallway’s corner and can be reached from outside. While in the air I did a couple of save+load to get into the map transporter as quick as possible. I’m glad you liked the run ^^

idk if you're talking about the Vandenburg section, but there's a trigger that starts the end sequence. By precisely shooting at it, it starts the sequence.

I didn't find any of this, some of the tricks go back to the earliest 2004 and 2007 segmented runs, other things were found in the same year this run was done (2018). Some augmentations become stronger when you open the game options menu and go back in the game, no idea why but for the leg augmentations it allows higher jumps and less fall damage. Grenade clipping works by creating a platform for JC to stand on (the grenade), then the platform rotates (a random direction), which can rotate JC through doors.
