@Mrv6699 Exposition in the context of writing is used to inform the user of certain information that's important to the story. So there was nothing incorrect about the way I used it. Because I was referring to an instance in which we were being informed of the characters personality traits by literally having them read out. And the reason I can determine that it's a bad form of exposition, is because it doesn't follow the rule of "show don't tell" which is a universally used rule that's applied to story telling. As for my video being full of baseless claims, again you're gonna have to elaborate. Can you please reference all the instances you can think of in which I supposedly based my video off of baseless claims? Because I'm pretty sure that's impossible considering all the points I made were referring to the footage that was right in front of me.

lets be honest the who rvb thing became an obsolete name in season 8. we discover the teams are not real and the only one who still believes it after that is sarge.

I almost expected wash to give a witty comeback to that line so the show would parody blatant exposition. However, it turned out to be just blatant exposition.

None of the same people are involved. People assume studios work on the garage band paradigm of the group breaking up and being over when the musicians are sick of it, but they don't. It's more like if the Beatles had just ejected John Lennon and replaced him with a new singer, and then had replaced George, and Ringo, until it was more like Paul McCartney and three random people than the Beatles, and then if Paul was put in prison on child abuse charges and they replaced him too, and they still called it the Beatles.

Tucker is alive. He did momentarily ‘die’ before being revived back. But because he got killed, the sword got passed on by the next wielder of the sword...
Regardless this whole scenario and season disgust me....
Since he flatlined, the biometric link from the sword to Tucker’s vitals were severed, and hence could not detect his life-force when he was revived.

I disagree with you on one point: What made Monty's fight scenes as good as they were was a combination of character, setting, and clarity. Every character in monty's fights fights in a different way, there's always new and interesting setpieces, and it's always completely clear what's going on, what a weapon or set piece does, and what the characters are capable of.
In RVB zero, the only character who comes close to monty levels is Phase. Every other character does nothing to distinguish themselves in fights from one another, none of the fights make use of interesting locations or setpieces, and when they do mix things up (like the whole alien temple thing) so little is explained clearly or concisely that it becomes impossible to be invested in the action. questions like "what does that sword do?" "what does his armor do?" and "what are these temple guardians capable of?" would never come up in a monty fight scene. And a character like Diesel, whose whole gimmick is he just doesn't take damage from anything until he does, would never have been used by Monty. Even agent Maine was still vulnerable to being shot in the neck 10 times.

And.. Getting thrown off the back of a speeding truck onto the highway.. And getting hit by ANOTHER speeding truck traveling in the opposite direction immediately after.

Yep, when you look at rvb it's clear Tucker has a sword, Church has a sniper (which he can't use), Sarge has a shotgun, Carolina is a badass, and Caboose is a team killer. While in zero everyone is a badass with no decernable difference besides phase.
I agree. Phase was the only character from _Zero_ that I actually enjoyed watching, as her gimmick created a sense of unpredictability while in combat. It vaguely reminded me of Connie's doppelganger ability in Season 10. Be that as it may, one other thing I'd like to add about Monty Oum's fight choreographies, was that they always had the camera orbiting the character to wherever the next sequence would be, thereby leading the audience's attention and allowing them to anticipate the next move, allowing it to flow freely. The camera techniques he used were also meant to compliment the environments they were placed in, or to focus on a climatic point in the fight (i.e., Connie getting the knife stuck in the roof by Carolina, which is immediately followed by a desperate attempt to defend herself against Tex, who has _adapted to her fighting style after making errors beforehand_ ). Examples of the environment include: a free camera consistently switching between a wide-shot of Carolina and York in the elevator, giving a sense of weightlessness, which is in it of itself replicated from the Tex vs Scorpion Tank fight. C.T. and the Insurrectionist Leader vs Carolina and Tex has the camera doing a lot of close-up shots as they fight, while the camera is often seen orbiting around each combatant, giving a sense of an enclosed space with very little room to play around with, which compliments the combatants usage of exclusively close-quarters combat, even though they have guns.
Also explained all that stuff without exposition dumps.
god I miss monty man deserved better
The thing that distracted me the most throughout this, was how almost all the guns/weapons look like they're from other games. Mainly Destiny and Borderlands, at least to me, but maybe others as well that I just didn't pick up on.
Halo just not sci-fi enough anymore? Needed to go full neon science fantasy?
I wanted RvB Zero to be more grounded and lean towards more of the Halo lore itself while also taking elements from the main RvB series to fuel it's story. Basically Mil-sim RvB, but instead we got funny vomit in helmet and neon seizure lights.

I feel this show completely missed the entire point of Red Vs Blue with its characters and conversations for flashy fights. I don't know and care who they are. I'm not blinded by nostalgia, I was open to a new cast and even if the show was more into the action this time, but if I don't care, and if they're not gonna try with the story, why should I care?
i think the we was meant to imply “No you also helped, it wasn’t just us, we couldn’t do it without you” since saying “they did it” implys “they” did it without east’s help. Still super cringey regardless

I also don't know why they decided to animate the characters standing around with pistols down like they are filming in game. You have the freedom to animate them in any way you want and you default to just the stiff basic stuff that filming in game would do? I guess it was just faster and saved time for them to animate all the fight scenes? Seems like a kinda restricted and dumb choice to me but I'm not the one animating so what do I know.
Yeah, that was another thing that baffled me. 100% of the show was animated so I don't get why they did it a lot in the machinima style. I didn't find it charming in the slightest. I can understand simplifying something because it's hard to do, but they are clearly capable of animating stuff really well, so they just literally went out of their way to make it look machinima style even though it doesn't add to the visuals in any way.
Which is even more hilarious considering how the freelancer scenes were made in season 9 and 10

It was their attempt to try to make it more like RvB. But hitting the audience with familiar visuals isn't what made RvB great. The story and the characters were. Honestly, if RvB was made using a different medium, it would still be great. Fuck, they could've used disney's Cars assets for all I care.
But what really irked me was the fact that those scenes were animated in the STYLE of the game engine. Why even bother? They've strayed so incredibly far from what RvB is that making it look like the game engine didn't make any difference. It just came off as insulting.

I never watched RvB:Z, but just by watching the clip of Carolina having a casket on her arm while wearing armor just immediately turn my brain saying “Yeah, I’m not taking this show seriously”
Honestly the series did weird gag shit like this quite frequently. But I do still think this show was shit. Granted, I guess if it was one of the boys from the Gulch I wouldn’t have mind as much at the same time.

At this point I don't get why it's considered RvB. This doesn't really pertain to any of the original characters or story. RT would be far better off just creating a new series with a few appearances from the original RvB. It really just seems like they want to make something new but are afraid to deviate from the RvB title. Not to mention the animations of having the characters act like they're in-game with magnums lowered and bobbing their heads... That just looks really bad.
They probably don't want to lose the Red Vs Blue copyright. They most likely need to renew it every so often to keep it and don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with Microsoft again to use their designs and assets.

To be fair, RoosterTeeth has always said there will always be more RvB. They even had a website that was something along the lines of "isredvsblueending(dotcom)" which sent you to a site that just had the word "no" on it. So they are likely struggling to keep that promise, even after almost all the original talent has left.
To be honest, most of the original stuff that Rooster Teeth has made often fails (from what I’ve heard). Like they made a game (or two?) and they flopped. I don’t know about much else, but that could be why. They might just want to make something original, but run the risk of having it flop, and thus they have to apply it to old properties. Otherwise it’d just be lost money for RT and At&t.

Gus (Simmons) Still works for the company, Matt (Sarge/Doc) still works for the company, Jason (Tucker) never worked for the company, Dan (Donut) never worked for the company. The only one who has left is Burnie (Church/Epsilon) who pretty much retired last year to go spend time with his family out of the spotlight.
Even second gen characters like Washington and Carolina aren't voiced by employees of the company but by professional actors and actresses.
Guy above seems agog that after 20 years three people out of the original cast don't still work at the same production company that, for ten of those years, was little more than a handful of staff working out of a small office.

It started to go downhill when they were bought by a larger company. They were so much better when they were just a hand full of guys.
Zero appears to be written by people I have never seen before outside Wiz from Death Battle so no wonder it's garbage. It's written by literally no one who worked on the series prior.

Also Carolina having “never encountered anyone more powerful” is such bullshit all of the old freelancers would destroy them the only difference is “they have magic”

One issue I have with the animation it's too jenky nd flashy. Similar animation infact extremely similar animation to Rwby chibi. This type of animation isn't bad... But when you put it into perspective of RvB it's ultimately just stupid. Instead of using monty's technique in animation they (and I assumed they did) decided to borrow the Rwby animators because they didn't want to have montys style of animation. People defend this by saying "well duh Monty died you can't learn his technique" which is no excuse because Death battle whom animated the Agent Maine vs Carolina used many visual techniques that monty had used alot. A entirely different animation studio managed to replicate monty's tactics in animation despite being a different studio and never got to see monty's animation first hand. Note they were able to pull it off despite monty's unfortunate passing and despite being an entirely different animation team.

@@jadennavarrofilms2377 I think what he means by "other animation studio" was the Death Battle scenes; I originally thought he meant that Death Battle managed to replicate it, as well as another studio, but I don't think that's the case at all.
Exactly I could tell from episode one that the whole new season was gonna be bad I just waited for them all to come out and yep terrible sad really I still binge watch all the other seasons and I gotta agree that death battle episode between Carolina and Maine reminded me so much of the old great fight scenes of the show
It feels like watching Power Rangers (like, very early Power Rangers, mainly the US footage) with how over acted everything is. Nobody moves like that IRL.
@@bdpickett Thank you! Too few people point this out. It was the characters' ridiculous Power Ranger-style movements that put me off the most. I was just waiting for them to fist-pump and cry out, "Right! Morphin'!" I don't get how the animators (or anyone for that matter), didn't catch this.

This show was original just some guys recording their TV and the audio sounded like they were using actual xbox mics. That wasn’t able to stop people from finding it hilarious and well made.

Man, really makes you miss Monty seeing what the fight choreography has devolved too without his loving guidance
The fight scenes without Monty (God rest his soul) clearly showed how poorly done they were afterwards. Once it went to halo 4 they fell apart. Hell my favourite fight scene was the tragically brief 'fight between York and Carolina, because these were characters I loved, and it was during a season that showed York and Carolina's relationship really well.
Honestly I don't think RvB was hit as hard as RWBY from losing Monty. RvB (at least in the Chorus Trilogy) adopted a completely different style that wasn't trying to mimick or match Monty. Like of course they weren't as objectively good, but they weren't bad either. They were all they needed to be.
RWBY on the otherhand has struggled to get back on its feet in the choreography department ever since in comparison and hasn't really figured out how to adapt.

@Nagger If I had to guess, I'd say it had to do with money. I'm not sure if the animators were third party (since iirc some of Season 14 had third parties working on it) or on their payroll, but usually the answer is money.
Speaking of, it'd be really cool if they made a spinoff following Felix and Locus and their fall from grace provided they have talented writers on the project. I never got the sense from those three episodes that we were seeing what really turned them into who they are in the Chorus Trilogy. Just hints of it.

I miss when RvB was grounded in the Halo universe, not that I'm against RvB taking things in their own direction, but it just doesn't work for me personally.
From season 1-10 and even 11-13 I always liked how the weapons, vehicles, and armor came from the halo universe. Ever since 15 and 16 its just felt like a real mess to me.
And I can't even describe how sad it makes me to see that show become this. It should have ended a long time ago.
There was a lot of things I didn't care for, like the way they move in way overly exaggerated motions when having conversations, the way East literally SNAPS to turn around when Carolina takes her by surprise in the shooting range, how blatantly obvious any attempt at making a plot twist basically announced itself like a month in advance, plot? Forget about it, cause the writers sure as hell did after the first two episodes only to try and remind you in the last 2 with attempts here and there.
It felt like they made plot points and rather than flesh them out so the story flows well, they focused all their resources and time into the fight scenes because they couldn't dial it in. Literally every episode feels like they just jump from plot point to plot point without bridging them together which makes this very clunky mess of the characters trying to convey an emotion that is unnecessary or trying to push another plot point in without context leading up to it.
I want there to be another season because I want to see if they learned from their mistakes, but from what I hear of what the VA for One and the writer/story lead/whatever he is on the team says? Highly unlikely they will learn anything if any of what I hear is true.
Shatter Squad was just a shining example of wasted potential. And the involvement of Carolina, Wash, and Tucker screams "Pandering" to me. Sad thing is Zero is the only reason I decided to watch seasons 1-17 of Red vs. Blue. To be fair, I enjoyed every moment of it, but when I finally got to Zero and realized it had little connection with past seasons and that I could've just started there and not get lost, I was a little pissed off.
It’s amazing how much this season doesn’t work, it’s an abject failure on so many grounds. I know a lot of people dislike it just in general for not being red vs blue, and not working in that sense but to me, RvB Zero just doesn’t work as a narrative in general.
In the second episode like the vid pointed out, we are introduced to the characters and their personalities by exposition which is just a sheer lack of confidence in writing. Imagine if we are intrigued to the OG reds and blues the same way? ‘This is Sarge, he is the stern, militaristic leader of Red Team, always cooking up a daft scheme to galvanise the red team to victory at the expense of Grif, who he dislikes for his laziness.’
The action and animation is pretty to look at but it is so boring. There’s no tension, I didn’t feel like anyone was about to be killed or really in danger no matter how many explosions went off in their faces. Honestly, despite the lack of choreography, the fight between Wash and Locus in Season 12 is so much more tense because Wash is in genuine danger, and there’s actual character behind it all. Here, they’re just long action scenes for the sake of long action scenes with no levity or stakes. Zero as a villain is comically overpowered, and it makes his motivation for MORE POWER laughable, seeing as he single handedly takes on and beats everyone he fights without even getting a scratch.
If you ask me, Wash should have actually died in the Shisno trilogy. It would make that entire saga much more meaningful and would show Rooster Teeth actually has the nerve to kill off characters which they clearly struggle with (look how long it took them to let go of Church). Having Wash actually accept that fate in the paradox fixing would be an absolutely gut wrenching plot point on par with Church’s sacrifice and the Directors last meeting with Carolina in my opinion. But no, here his brain damage is magically fixed, only for him to not do anything the whole season. Why would he even return to the military anyway? If you ask me, Shatter Squad should have been a team trained by Carolina solely and when she was captured/hurt by Zero, this inexperienced bunch set out to take them down. There’s so much I could talk about but Zero is just indicative of how much this once great show has fallen
i always thought the chores trilogy should have been the end. with season 14 being a way to tell storys they had never go to tell in the main show and just as a final goodbye to the characters
I mean it seemed like they wanted to try to make John Wick with humour. And failed epically at both. They jumped the shark with this one. They should've made a farewell season and wrapped up all of the Reds and Blues character arcs so we would be satisfied even if it wasn't as funny as previous season. Instead they pulled a Halo 5 introduced a cast of mostly unremarkable characters with an intriguing plot and underutilized staple characters of the franchise. Leaving a product we all want to forget just happened.

The fact that this story is in any way linked to the original characters from RvB makes it feel like fan fiction. Every major arc post blood gulch started with new characters and a new story that dove tailed back into the existing overarching story eventually. It didnt feel forced. This does

Joel didnt strike me as a right wing nut, but he said things that are basically liberal heresy and stopped showing up to work, so I wonder if office politics made it toxic to the point where he just wanted out. Ive worked with mostly liberals before, it is NOT pleasant if they find out youre a conservative.

Tex wasn’t even in anything after season 5 until 8. If you watched the recollection trilogy without watching any of the blood gulch chronicles you would have no idea the significance of her showing up in the flashbacks of season 8.

So basically this looks like the "newer" creators at Rooster Teeth are trying to cash in on the main staple, only to completely miss the mark and fail horribly because the original crew that started the whole thing either left or were forced out.
BRO, you really don't give yourself enough credit. Your animation in your fights wasn't as good but holy fuck your camera work is waaaaaaaaayyyyy better. That example you used from zero to show how it was "better" made me wanna throw the fuck up. Like that shit is marvel winter solider levels of camera shake. You did way better and it was so easy to follow, honestly felt more impact in the attacks in yours from the still camera shots as well.

If there's one thing that RvB teaches to the audience, is that sometimes you need to let it go.
I prefer seeing this series dead, more than seeing an animated rotting corpse like a puppet on strings.
The problem is that RvB: Zero will always have that first season following behind it. Even if they manage to make a second season 2, that will still always be the start of their series and where all the characters were introduced. Even if they make a second season, they still can't escape how bad the first was.
Credit where credit is due, I don't usually like vomit jokes fart jokes ect, but that vomit one from caboose 2 did genuinely get a laugh out of me

I stopped watching RvB after the Halo3 arc, their use of CGI for fight scenes was cool at first but then they started overusing it in the later seasons until the series became almost unrecognizable compared to what they were before. They got too big too quickly, and kinda forgot about their roots.
Honestly, I hope they just like retcon zero and try to return to the earlier seasons style
Bruh, I highly recommend the Chorus Trilogy.
It also has a really good ending so you don't have to watch anything past Season 13.
(Season 11 has no animation and Season 12 has sparce but bad animation, Season 13 has good animation but of course far less frequent than Seasons 9 and 10).

Honestly I wouldn’t have brought back Carolina and would’ve made a new character that is a master of martial arts with the loving personality of agent north dakota and would have gave him some super power like a healing unit but on steroids so east can have someone to relate to sorta liking him and would have had him with raymond when east betrayed the squad and she asked him to join zero but ultimately phase feels betrayed in the end I would have him kill desiel and watch phase beat her father asking her if she got what she needed telling her she got her revenge and has no purpose to be mad anymore and zero has gotten too powerful which he extends his hand and they both teleport to fight zero and this zero wouldn’t have the ultimate power I would’ve given him another motivation entirely
They should hire me at rooster teeth a teenager that loves this show and actually watches it would have made a better plot

One thing that was a real pet peeve for me was the weapons. Not just all the new ones that didn't fit the Halo aesthetic, but the fact that aside from the pistol and SPNKR, they clearly had no idea what any actual Halo weapons even did. Like, okay, the full-auto Battle Rifles in episode 1, I could've overlooked, but then there was the rocket-launching Spartan Laser in episode 5. How do you handle any part of that asset and determine that it's supposed to be a rocket launcher? The idea of wanting to separate the series from Halo a bit more is a little confusing to me, but I could've at least accepted that as a legit explanation for a lot of this series' weird design choices, instead of it being so painfully obvious that the team in charge of writing a Halo parody show clearly didn't know anything about Halo, and just wanted to throw a lot of cool-looking assets into a blender!
Also, there's one scene in episode 1 that just infuriates me to no end. It’s at the end when Zero's making his stylish, badass escape, and basically walking through all the leftover troopers trying to stop him. Every soldier he takes down with a single shot, all except the last dude, who he VERY PLAINLY shoots POINT-BLANK in the GODDAMN FACE, and yet he's still screaming and panicking as Zero feels the need to pointlessly strap a grenade to him and throw him into the background. HOW IS YOUR FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY SO BAD THAT A HEADSHOT ISN'T A CONFIRMED KILL!? In most forms of media, characters are more likely to survive a nuke, for crying out loud! It's one of the most damning confirmations of death in any fictional media, and they couldn't even get it right on one jobber.
Combine that with Phase's scene earlier, when she tele-slashes a bunch of dude's guns (seriously, how the fuck did she do that, and why did she never do anything like it again?), only to kill them seconds later, when there was no reason not to just kill them with the initial attack, and you have this series' biggest problem: style over substance. Nothing is thought out, nothing is given any consideration past looking cool, and all we're left with is a hollow, flashy, spectacle. No one writing this season gave half a damn about Red VS Blue, they just wanted to make cool, flashy shit happen withthe assets they were given, and didn't care about anything else. This is some of the most flawed direction I've ever seen, and the possibility of getting another season of it honestly sickens me.

I personally would have made One's father revealed to be the Meta. We would have had subtle clues leading up to the twist from her being the only one who didn't sign Carolina's cast, being completely quiet when Carolina and Washington are around, acting super aggressive twoards the freelancers and Tucker when he debuts, and even asking to have the Meta's armor. The twist would either be revealed by her outright saying it or a shot of her opening a locket revealing a picture of her when she was a child with her parents and mabey even focus on the father to reveal him to be Maine.
While I feel that'd be interesting, I feel like the characters should be able to stand on their own two feet, and not rely on already well developed characters in the past to make them interesting.
@@TheReconJacob I'd try to make sure that One's character would be able to stand on her own two feet by developing her character before the big twist is revealed. Mabey wait until the second or third season to reveal that she's the Metas daughter. Besides, we could have some time during the show (mabey even an entire season or two) where she joins the villains while wearing some of the Metas armor (At the very least wearing the helmet). During her time as a villain, she's incredibly brutal and merciless towards the Alliance of Defence, Tucker, and most of the Shatter Squad, but she just can't bring herself to hurt Axel (the good red guy) because he raised her and loved her. Eventually, her love of her adoptive father leads her to rejoin the Shatter Squad but she still keeps the Metas armor as an admittedly messed up way of forgiving the reds and blues.
What frustrates me most about RvB Zero is that it's not a spin-off. It's a main season. This is the direction they want to take the show in now.

When you analyze the "Why we're hear" scene, it really makes me feel like Griff and Simmons should have switched places.

RvB ended with Season 13. I'm okay with how that ended especially now. Everything else is just beyond stupid. I guess it's what you get when you focus on how diverse the team is instead of you know good writing and animation.
My biggest issue with zero (and like the last 3 seasons in all honesty) is that it has just become way too goofy for my tastes, now I know that on a seriousness scale rvb might as well be a damn clown who ripped a fat one at a close friends eulogy but there’s was always a balance of goofiness and the goofiness wasn’t always present. It had a time and a place
In summary I can deal with a man becoming pregnant with an elite and an AI being able to possess soldiers but I cannot deal with gods, time travel and just random shit constantly happening
Yeah.
With RvB they balanced the goofiness and seriousness. The Meta was interesting and gave a serious tone when he was on screen. When he encountered Donut, it was worrying to wonder what would happen to him, though while Donut being “goofy” might have effected the tension of the scene, we also had the comedy of Simmons showing up and immediately backing up as soon as he spots the Meta.
Essentially, seriousness and comedy was well balanced in seasons 5-13. It was properly timed, and neither ended up ruining each other.
Im gonna be honest, I didn't like anything about this season. In the first episode they immediately retcon Washington's brain injury which was seen as a sacrifice from the previous season, then they use Wash and Carolina just to show the bad guys were really good or something? And the animation was hard to watch, while the fight scenes were decent, they have almost no weight to them. I loved the previous seasons because they made use of the games they were based on. This season you can even see times where the animation made them move similar to how they did it previously and it's just disappointing overall.
After Joel left that was it.
Red vs Blue ended with the Reds and Blues fixing the universe.
It was a brilliant ending, but beauty doesn't last forever...
One of the big strengths of the early seasons of RvB was that the characters were relatable in a mundane way. Two guys getting a shit assignment in the middle of nowhere and are just trying to make the time go by? Yeah, I can get behind that. Then the later seasons decided to go full ham on the drama with betrayals and super villains and that takes me out of it, because it feels (and looks) like a rejected Power Rangers episode. Not to mention that the writing is high school cringe.
Season 13 was the last good season imo. Show just went downhill after that to me.
they don't need to return. they have had 17 seasons a new cast would be great. that being said, not this cast, anybody but this cast.
@@peteypoo2470 Agreed. Part of me would love for the old cast to come back, but another part of me knows their time has kinda come. But if they are gonna start something new in RvB they need to get a different cast, get the animations back to what they were and fix the voice acting.
@@tacticaltyler6792 agrred, ngl i some what prefer the original rvb where they were just a bunch of people bobbing heads on an xbox. but i got chills when i saw some sick animating in season 9 which i also love. part of me wants to se north and south dakota return too. idk there have been so many good characters and a big one that needs to come back is doc with his multi personality. we got left with his omega personality coming back and they did nothing with it from what i remember.
I think comparing the animation is a bit unfair since Roosterteeth has been around longer and has a bigger team and budget.
Still dont know why they needed the newbies when you had full fledged freelancers, and assuming they still have their gear
