Everyone was baffled at how old my beta fish lived when I was a kid. But I had him in a big tank that I would clean and there was a filter and all. Like beta fish can live for longer than a week if you actually take care of them.
I had a beta for 5 years in a 50 gallon before one day he decided to pick a fight with one of the fish (they had never fought before, idk why he got angry suddenly) and got his flowy, pretty back fins bitten off. He was transferred to a 10 gallon to be safe on his own and lived another year. His pretty tail grew back in full, btw. He was resilient.
I put my Beta in a 75-gal tank with another fish and he lived for a LONG time. Fish are so much happier in bigger tanks. Try keeping yourself in a small, itty bitty space and see how well you survive.. People don't think about stuff like that. Thank you for taking good care of your Betta :)
I feel so bad about the beta's I had as a kid.(this was 15+years ago, I'm 27) They were literally in one of those tiny plastic cages, with like One plastic plant. I feel so guilty. I'm so glad these videos exist so, that people learn more. 😢
I fully agree with this; NEVER own pets just so they look good and aesthetic. image getting adopted just to be treated like sh!t when before you had a much better home.
So true! If a Betta isnt swimming alot they arent happy! I learnt to get a bigger tank, so I did. But he wasnt yet happy cuz I ignorantly didnt know they needed a heater too. He was so happy after the heater!
My dad had a pet tarantula as a kid and he put her in a bowl onto of a sponge so she could drink and it was better than her old home without water bc the old owner thought they didn't need it, but I was so upset when I heard. I'm a firm believer in a spider having a proper enclosure where they can build a web and have a burrow
@@EllieYeeno filter edit: ok to everyone replying to me, I literally said I didn’t see that, I watched this video with no audio edit 2: guys I am not saying the bigger tank is the problem, I am just pointing out that she did not add a filter. I did not watch this video with audio, as I already mentioned previously. I know that it was wrong of me to comment so quickly without knowing the full setup. For those of you who continue to criticize me, what is the point? I literally do not understand why you continue to do so despite me acknowledging my mistakes and apologizing
@@luceleafthe bigger tank isn't the problem. You didn't see the full setup yet, we don't know if she put in a filter. Regardless, bettas can live without a filter in the right setup (lots of substrate, densely planted). Also the issue is with the other person, not the new setup
Thank you for giving the little buddy a better home and life! I'm sure he would thank you too if he could talk 🤣 but i bet seeing him swim around and enjoy his life shows his thanks
Makes me feel awful for those betas stuck in the *tiny* plastic cups at pet stores. 😢 THANK YOU for rescuing this little one! They all deserve such kind, thoughtful people advocating for them.
i have some good news! at my local petco store, theyve started to put beta fish into the bigger tanks (the ones where the other fish are) (ive only seen a few) but hopefully this is the start of transitioning them to proper tank care!
@@aria5981 is it in tanks with other fish? Bc betas will mostly kill any other fish in the same tank with them, and when they have babies they also eat them too (correct me if I’m wrong).
I think about this every time I step foot in there and it pains me … like I wish I could just take all of them and give them a better life but someone said they’re just going to replace them with more beta fish so idk what to do I feel bad cuz idk I guess if i had a lot of money I would keep taking them in but idk what to do about it cuz petsmart is just gonna bring more in since they see their is a demand for beta fish
@@NoLifeNoDice no, you should give them plants and rocks and such. As long as there's enough open space for them to swim, they'll love it. Think about it, in the wild the fish have plants, rocks, wood, ect. So why shouldn't they in captivity?
@@NoLifeNoDice I'm aware that it's a small space. But I've been keeping fish and other animals for a while now and I've never had any issues with a fish living in a happy environment, such as with plants and rocks.

I had a little guy, Del Fuego, for almost four years. He was bright red and not scared of anything. He was in a five gallon tank and well taken care of. He passed away about a month ago, and this video reminds me of him. Thanks :)
That is so sweet that you talk about your fish like that most people just think “well it’s just a fish 🤷♀️” and I don’t think they realize it is a PET along with dogs and cats
@jewelsb4926 yep! I'm looking into getting another betta after all this time, which is what brought me back to this video and the happy memory of the comment I made almost a year earlier. I even trained Del Fuego to jump for food and follow a pencil eraser through a hoop!
With a healthy fish and very slow water flow it is not a problem. Bettas live in very still water. A fish won't damage it's fins in still water. Overdoing water flow is a killer of fish like these.
Came here to say the same thing. Their fins are very delicate even plastic plants with sharp edges can rip them. I would get some smooth drift wood like is found on beaches and replace the sharp ones she put in, other than that it looks great!
@@uncommonideal1111 If you do so, boil them in water to get rid of all of the bacteria. It will be so much better for your fish and for the overall health of everything and could prevent your fish from getting sick!
You should definitely add more plants, Bettas are territorial, meaning they constantly patrol their tank. And plants to hide in give them a feeling of safety. Also too much stress, caused by being exposed etc can cause Bettas to die. Even though this is an improvement there is still a lot to be done. Also be careful with those decorations
There aren’t any sharp decorations in the tank. Natural wood is soft and almost slimy to the touch when submerged in water. The biggest risk to the fish in this tank would be if he got stuck under the glass bowl, since bettas like to wedge themselves in tight spaces.
@@Goldthecat I'd still be careful with it tho, hell even plastic plants can injure a Betta. And even if the decorations are not sharp, there still aren't enough plants
Well... It's great that the Betta is getting a bigger home, although I'd say there is some things to be improved. That rocky bottom is quite bad for an aquarium, there is to much space between them for detritus to accumulate and decrease water quality on the long run. The bowl is also useless, fish don't see glass like we do and since it has plants inside, it will be natural for him to be bumping the glass to try to get into the plants. Getting a heater and a filter will also be very important for maintaining the fishes health and the water quality. Just some things to think about! It's definitely better than what it was in. Bowls are illegal to use as aquariums here in Portugal 😅 I'm glad for that.
It should to be illegal to use bowls as an aquarium where I am too. I thinks it's okay to temporarily put them in a bowl if your doing a large water change, but other than that it's not okay it's basically fish abuse
Gravel is fine as long as she moves it around while suctioning, fish absolutely do see glass better than other species and are proven to be better at mapping their environment than rats - glass bottles w treats are often used as enrichment, whether she needs a heater is completely dependent on the temperature of the room the tank is in, and though a sponge filter or other small filter would help a lot, bc of the plants she could probably get away with slightly more water changes and checking levels regularly
As a child I had kids and adults alike telling me we were so dumb for keeping our betas in a 45 gallon. We had 3 females from birth and they all lived together. People thought we were stupid for having such a big tank but then would ask how our fish lived longer than 2 weeks. I’ve had goldfish get to a foot long before. These animals can THRIVE if you actually know what to do.
someone on here pointed out that bettas can get very stressed in tanks that are too big and might even die from stress so :/ maybe they werent all wrong but for the wrong reasn
@@miyubeilschmidt5351 they get stressed if they can't hide somewhere. that wouldn't make sense for them to die in large tanks or else they would all die in the wild. they're less territorial in large tanks as well
Mine is 3 years old. I've only had him for like 9 months though. I rescued him from a 2.5 gallon tank wirh no filter or heater. Now he lives in 10 gallons with a sponge filter, heater and live plants. He is so happy now but looks pretty rough since he had a bad life for over 2yrs without me. Someone asked our local pet store if they could drop him off to be saved and I messaged her like bring the fish to me please instead because I will do better. A pet store only wants to sell fish not save them.
@@kellybader6315 no. In the wild they don't live nearly as long then in captivity. In the wild they live an average of 3 years, under proper care in captivity the longest ever record was 10 years. It is rare for a Betta to live beyond 6 years, but can be possible with extreme dedication in health, aquarium upkeep and size proper temperature control and food.
@raisinbrancerealofficial I had a gibbiceps and he was over 10 years old. Buddy had a big tank full of plants, maintained well, fed well with natural food. That big boy was a giant definitely not for everyone to keep. His environment should be over 1k liters for one fish. They grow up to 50-70cm and can live more than 20 years
If you want to see a really happy Betta fish, get a small aerating pump and put in a corner of the thank with one of those ornaments kind of concealing the bubbles. He's going to spend all day swimming against the bubbles like a kid on a slide. They love it! I think it must feel as if they were scratching an itchy spot 😃
I got a Betta for Christmas and he's adorable! He sorta plays peekaboo with me. And swims to me when I get close. I need to get him more decor though. Your fish is going to be so much happier in the tank.
We had a beta fish for several years. We named him Merlin and kept him downstairs, where my mom worked a lot of the time. He learned her voice and would always swim to the glass when we came near to talk to him. He lived for several years. Miss you, Merlin, even though you did eat a few of your tankmates. Miss you, buddy
Betta don't usually do well in huge tanks. The open space stresses them out. So... it's not really an improvement when you're no smarter than the idiot you bought the fish from.
@@dacksonflux Funny how you say bettas don't do well in large environments. A part of it is true, they don't do well in tall tanks/high water, they do better in shallow water. BUT, in their natural habitats, they live in rice fields. Domestication is amazing.
3 years ago, I went with my mom to get a fish, and I found it cute that I spend all my life saving to buy him a nice home, yes since this day, I still have the same fish Edit: Tysm for the likes! :D Edit: He sadly passed away at 4 3/4 years, he hadn’t been eating and didn’t feel well, I hope he rests in peace.
Similar situation here. My sister's won a bunch of fish and almost let all of them die bc they gave her a 3 gallon bowl. They upgraded and are now living the fish life of luxury with all the food they want. 😅❤
GREAT IDEA making a living plant terrarium inside the tank. Provides food, oxygen and binding place for the fish. BRILLIANT & BEAUTIFUL! The tank isn’t bad either 😊
Obsessed with how you can aquasculpt with those nails girl how??? Teach me??? You are killing it this looks so good! I especially love how you used the bowl too
My first three Beta fish didn’t live beyond a few months, likely due to the size of their tank (very small). For my fourth and final fish, I got him a 5-gallon tank. After living in the itty bitty 1.5 gallon ‘tank’ for a few weeks, Spike (my fish) thoroughly enjoyed his larger accommodations. I’m not sure how old he was when I got him but he lived with me for ~2 years before going to fishy Heaven.
I did this with a bowl as a centerpiece for my 35g hex tank. I put the bowl in first and filled it with glass beads, then put the sand around it. Then I attached an LED light to the bottom of the tank (inside the stand) so the light made the glass beads glow! It was really cool.
My beta fish Finny lived about 3 years. He lived through moving from Texas to Louisiana. It was a long car ride but he made it. He lived in a small, common bubble bowl but we made sure to clean it often. Eventually he passed from age or maybe a tumor he had under his fin. He was a beautiful fish (Rip Finny)
I had a blue one named Sapphire he also lived for 3 years. I had in i think it was a 3 gallon tank. It wasn't very big but he seemed to like it and it had a light and filter in it.
I put my betta in a vimmunity tank, he thrived and never fought with the others. He lived for 6 years. He was gorgrous. Irridescent white, he shimmered in pink...beautiful
I had 2 goldfish when I was a kid they lived in a TINY “tank”... basically a plastic bowl/cylinder it’s hard to describe I have no idea how but one made it to like 6 years old even though it was in such a tiny thing it’s whole life. All we did was change the water no filter or anything. I feel bad now but I was just a kid. I still remember the lil guy was so excited everytime we were nearby because he thought it was time for food :’) he made it hard to resist giving him more.
@@wilale he lived in a tiny bowl and had more than enough food he was greedy and always thought he could get more lol Any more than the amount we gave would be overfeeding
I did the same thing, incorporating my Bettas tiny bowl into his new 10g. Except the bowl his previous owner had him in was tiny compared to this one. I had no choice but to do a fish in cycle. I remember putting him in while still in his bowl and him realizing after a little while that he could swim way more than he previously could.
My betas lived a little over a year and got them at the same time. Seperate tanks. Changed water weekly and added the proper mix in the tank and fed them regularly. Maynard and Keenan were their names.
@joelspringman523 they were short, but I'm not sure how old they were when I got them. I got them from a friend when I was in high school. She had quite a few of them.
When you’re done cleaning the tank and going to refill it, put a bit of water at the bottom (like about an inch or two) BEFORE putting the objects in the tank, including the sand. That way it’s way less time for the dust to settle. Then slowly pour in the water bit by bit, much easier and and effective
I had one in a 90 gal community tank and he thrived. His name was Rocky and he lived 5 years and was also moved states in a 5gal bucket with a bubbler lol. I also had an angel that wanted pets....I miss my fish 😢
People saying that getting her tank from the side of the road is bad.. well it could be, but I also had two 110 gallon tanks that I gave away for free when I stopped getting new fish because I didn’t have time anymore after they all passed(Of old age). Also getting him out of a round bowl into a tank ❤❤ amazing already. I don’t see any harm in using the bowl to adjust, even if he cant see the glass, he will find his way to hide in the plants and know where to go. Good job on the rescue ❤
I wish I knew as a kid what I know now... I killed all my fish by over cleaning the tank. My most successful fish (going on 5 years now from a backyard pond to a 55g plastic tank in my new house) have thrived by not over cleaning stuff and simply doing water changes.... (Not overfeeding also helps, let them pick around for food during the day, not ignore fallen pieces).
I had little fishy called Tsunami, she was a fighting fish, or a betta as they are also known as, and she was black and blue and red and she was the most beautiful fish I’ve ever seen, I still think of her every day even though it’s been nearly a year since her passing because she had so much character, I loved her so much and i am so grateful to have had her, thank you for helping this one, I hope they live a wonderful and full life like my Tsunami did
My beta fishy lived for 3 years bc I kept up with it.. eventually he just wouldn’t swim around anymore and stayed at the bottom of his tank till his passing 🙁 I actually miss him so much, I didn’t know id become so attached to him but I could tell he appreciated the love and care
I luv that you put so much time & luv into its new home !!’ Can’t wait to see the beta fish .. I’m sure it’s so happy to be in a nice home!!! Thx for the share
My beta did that as well. When I was cleaning out his tank I had to leave him for a moment and my cat knocked over his tank. I got there in time thankfully and saved his life. He then came to the top all the time and would let me pet him. He was the best fish I ever owned and I miss him❤
YESS!!! Please treat him like the king he is, people don't know what they are doing to the poor thing sometimes and it is damn sad because we have the fucking internet to learn how to care for these wonderful, lil creatures!!!
It's color should be brighter and it's fen's shouldn't be torn up. I hope you saved it and it made it. Once you get a filter it should be perfect. Betta fish are very smart creatures and need attention and love to survive. They are interactive type of fish. I use to have five black and red Betta fish. They were trained to boop a rubber band ball I made for them, and they played together by spitting water at my hands on command. My mom was proud of me because she didn't know how smart they are until I showed her. They loved me so much they would ask for rubs and they gave me kisses even though I had no food. I miss my Betta gang, they were amazing fish. My friends were amazed at my fish they couldn't believe I had pet fish that were like water dogs. I even setup play time with my friends and fish and taught them about the fish. I made new friends in grade school because of my black Betta fish. ☺️ My neighbors and family members told me I am an animal whisperer. I agree I am capable to speak to animals and learn from them. I've been able to speak to animals my whole life. It started when I was a baby my mom would have me in a car seat when she gardened so I could interact with her and she could teach me things. Birds would rest on my car seat and bring me food as if they thought I was a chick. They still came around when I was in grade school and I told my teacher she didn't believe until the birds landed on my shoulder while we were outside. I started bringing my baby blanket and I called kittens I rescued at home and they would come play with the kids and me. I am autistic so I am not very good at socializing it's uncomfortable for me. I still force myself to communicate so I don't lose my ability to. I am prone to being a selective mute mostly if I get anxious. It's not good for me. I now go to counseling. Also, my black Betta fish were emotional support animals. My mom got them for me and thought she would have to do all the work. I was obsessed with them and I kept them healthy and happy. They lived seven years and I got them a 100 gallon tank and made toys. I couldn't find any fish toy's so I made them special toys. Fish can count up to 100 some can count 125. I made a test to see if they could. They would point out numbers I drew on the side of the tank and they literally poked the right number 98 % of the time and they even understand adding small sums like 2+2 =4 that was easy to teach them. All I did was put 2+2 and a list of answers and the first time I pointed out the correct answer. They never got it wrong after watching me point it out. ☺️😁❤️
reading your comment was so interesting! I never heard of someone who's in tune with animals that deeply. I'm interested in having a betta one day in the future but I want to make it happy and give it attention and love but do you have any advice on how to train them? That would be so cool to do
I hope you still have pets- especially fish! I had no idea they could do any of that stuff, but some people give out such special vibes to certain species, that they WANT to communicate with you. You should write an article about your trained fish and get it published! Fascinating stuff!
Theres nothing wrong with its color and the fin looks fine but also this vid doesn't zoom in so ..... Also anyone reading this YOU CANNOT PUT BETTAS TOGETHER ...IN A LARGE TANK THETES A CHANCE BUT THEY WOLL SLWAYS FIND EACH ORHER AND THEY FIGHT TIL THE DEATH.
Noooooooo pls put them in separate tanks and make sure the other fish are compatible with the betta fish.if 2 betta fish are in the same tank they will fight
My class got a beta fish, and the teacher didn’t buy it. Some student bought it and brought it to school. We had a donation drive thing to make enough money to help cover the purchase of the filters the tank needed. We got everything and he’s living his best life. He somewhat recognizes our teacher too because he always swims out for her. We named him Payaso because it’s Spanish class and Payaso was one of the thing people called each other as a joke (Clown in Spanish).
I kept my Betta named Blue in a giant tank with leaf hammocks, a leaf palace filled with created spying spots for him to peek out at me while staying hidden and blowing his bubble nests, an automatic heater that kept the tank between 76 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, real, all-natural dried leaves special ordered that conditioned the water to his liking, fancy Betta-specific food, daphnia, bloodworms, brine shrimp etc for treats. I adored him and whenever I came home he would come to the wall of the tank and do his wiggle dance to greet me. I accidentally took too long to drop a dried brine shrimp treat onto the surface of his water once and he jumped out and grabbed it off the tip of the stick I used to feed him without contaminating his food with my hands, so from then on I would offer him his treats occasionally up above the surface and he would jump out and snatch it and proudly munch it and dance for more! If he ever didn’t jump right away I would just give it to him because I don’t believe in forcing any animals to do tricks for their treats. He was my best friend through a painful time in my life and when he died I decorated a wooden burial box for him and buried him in my aunt’s garden with our other beloved pets. My aunt was really nice to me even though I expected her to kinda not really understand why I was so upset over what most people think of as a “dumb animal who doesn’t even know you” - I could tell he knew me and was happy to see me. I commissioned a painting of him on canvas and for my graduation present/first healthcare job present, my aunt got my painting professionally framed in a museum-quality frame with museum-quality glass that prevents glare from obscuring my view of my beloved Blue as it also protects the artwork from damage due to light exposure. He now hangs above my daughter’s crib/convertible junior bed and he watches over her from the Rainbow Bridge waterway for me 💙💚 💙🐟
Awww wait that’s such a cute idea, my first betta is almost 5 and I know his time is coming near. Little guy basically acted as my therapy throughout college and I’ve probably spent more money taking care and pampering him then myself lol. My mom does art and I think I’m gonna ask her to paint him for me.
@@Sham_Knubs this sounds almost exactly like how my relationship was with my little Blue. I poured all my love and attention into him and making him happy and comfortable!! What I did was I used both the suction cup “leaf hammocks” and a fake aquarium plant with big flat leaves that kinda cradle him if he sits on them. Then I would arrange them so he could rest on one with his head peeking out and have leaves next to him and one over him, but he could rest so that his head was out past the end of the leaf covering him over him and he could just tip upwards and take sips of air when he wanted. And then he could spy from his hiding spot and back up and hide when he wanted to!! I love that you are as bonded and devoted to your little pal as k was. Five years proves you have gone above and beyond for your fin baby 🐟💙💚 thank you for your comment!! It really warms my heart to know another little fish is being loved and appreciated. I know blue would be proud. I’m posting the portrait I had painted of my fish on my channel. It’s stretched canvas with museum quality framing and glass that protects the painting and reduces glare so he can been seen in any lighting 💙💚 I wanted to show that they are loving creatures who deserve as much love and care as any pet. Thank you for being so good to your fishy!!
I knew someone who had a beard dragon who got sick and were told the tank was contaminated with what ever it was sick with. It was on the side of the road for a reason. I'd be shocked if they didn't try and sell it if was still goodnto use.
You would be surprised how many people are just wasteful and will throw away a perfectly good tank or any unused furniture/item for that matter, a good thorough sanitizing and cleaning can be done to clear the tank of any bacteria, disease or contaminant
Honestly a good cleaning with 99% rubbing alcohol or bleach will kill whatever is there. That's what I would do after rehousing whatever so I k ow ifs 100 good to go

I used to work at *unnamed chain pet store* and the number of people who came in to get fish, who had no business owning fish was astounding. Lots of education needed for a lot of people before we could sell to them! 😅
@@dacksonflux I also work at an unnamed chain pet store and we recommend a 10gal kit to start out the best plus cycling for at least 2 weeks. @@katiezellers7106 for sure. It's understandable most people think a pet store has your animal in your best interest. That's quite rare unfortunately. Bowls are cheap to produce and sell well for a lot of money. Big chain stores don't care if the fish lives a horrible life

How are they your friend if they treat an animal like that? Thats torture i feel so bad for the little guy, they could barely stretch their fins out :(
Fun fact: Beta Fish originally came from rice patties and other densely vegetated, but shallow waters. Bubblers can actually bruise them and they prefer lots of cover. They also breath air from the water's surface as needed. I am all for giving them a larger tank though.
Great fact. Just so you know the air they breathe is supplementary oxygen, meaning they still get most of their oxygen from the water, but can always get some for the air if they need it

Betta fish need a MINIMUM of five gallons but 10+ is better. They don’t live in dirty puddles, it’s a COMPLETE MYTH. They actually live in MASSIVE rice patties! DO YOUR RESEARCH! Water pressure has nothing to do with anything, and my betta lives in a 60 gallon happily. DO NOT put other fish with your betta, especially the same species. Do research and put fish like neon tetras and Cory catfish with them, AND ONLY IF the tank is 20+ gallons. They m if it be hardy, but they need a filter and a heater.
i keep my bettas in very big tank since it was a egg they stay in big tank for whole life i keep them in very big tank since egg so they are very strong and swims at crazy speed
Why was it In a bowl to begin with. Especially with those rocks that look sharp, that can damage his fins. The only way that betta would be okay in that bowl is daily water changes and a lot of plants
No not the bubble nest made by their father after the fish hatch and begin swimming there is a little window where they’re too big to hide in the bubble nest but still too small to avoid getting eaten by their father or each other (gotta love that betta aggression) and the plants are a perfect place for them
Of course I mean between baby stage and adolescent stage where the father again becomes aggressive and they start they’re territorial nature (this is only if you are having trouble getting your tanks together to separate the babies once they’re adults which is always what happens to me
Now, Beta's really should have 5 gallons at minimum. But heck, pet stores keep them in f**king cups. So I'd say almost anything that allows them to move freely is okay. If someone can only manage a 1 gallon tank, I don't think they should be discouraged or shamed. That's a HUGE improvement for a Beta's life.
People treat fish like trash because they can't hear them cry out, but all pets deserve a comfortable, properly sized habitat

@@NoLifeNoDice no, you should give them plants and rocks and such. As long as there's enough open space for them to swim, they'll love it.

@@April-Jaythank you 😊
Thank you so much for giving beta fish a better life than what they usually get
Be careful with the sharp points on the wood. It can rip their long fins.
Yea she should sand them down
With a healthy fish and very slow water flow it is not a problem.
Ya
@@uncommonideal1111 If you do so, boil them in water to get rid of all of the bacteria. It will be so much better for your fish and for the overall health of everything and could prevent your fish from getting sick!
You should definitely add more plants, Bettas are territorial, meaning they constantly patrol their tank. And plants to hide in give them a feeling of safety.
Also too much stress, caused by being exposed etc can cause Bettas to die. Even though this is an improvement there is still a lot to be done. Also be careful with those decorations
That's an extremely vague last warning
@@nicolemelo8994 it just means that the decorations looks sharp and stuff, and Betta fish get their long fins injured quickly.
@@pp-ol5zl from what I remember, anything you put in the tank should be smooth enough that pantyhose would not snag on it at all.

Yea this will come with way more health risks than it’s worth. Do what’s best for the fish not what looks the best lol.
@@alvexas5510 Ikr, because that is a very pretty beta! 🥹 lol, I learned that a while ago.. Im now a beta breeder
Yeah you have to make sure there is nothing sharp since their tails and fins are very delicate
Driftwood releases helpful tannins to improve health!
@@trashratzz it looks very hard/sharp for a beta fish

I LOVE THIS! Finally someone taking care of there fish!
That was our tank we put out! I’m glad it found its self a good home.
Sureee
Yeaaa I bet😮
I knew someone who had a beard dragon who got sick and were told the tank was contaminated with what ever it was sick with. It was on the side of the road for a reason. I'd be shocked if they didn't try and sell it if was still goodnto use.
You would be surprised how many people are just wasteful and will throw away a perfectly good tank or any unused furniture/item for that matter, a good thorough sanitizing and cleaning can be done to clear the tank of any bacteria, disease or contaminant
Honestly a good cleaning with 99% rubbing alcohol or bleach will kill whatever is there. That's what I would do after rehousing whatever so I k ow ifs 100 good to go
@@harleyarley This. Some of our furniture was actually from the trash area in the apartments I live at! Perfect condition and everything. People often just leave stuff they don’t feel like packing or want to replace anyways (can’t always sell stuff you have or it’d be a pain to is kinda the logic many go by so they just leave it behind sitting by the trash bin).
Ever heard of hot water and vinegar? If you are too lazy to clean your trash then dont get a fucking pet for god sake
I used to work at *unnamed chain pet store* and the number of people who came in to get fish, who had no business owning fish was astounding. Lots of education needed for a lot of people before we could sell to them! 😅
Here's a question, did you tell them to get massive tanks for betta fish?
@@dacksonflux I also work at an unnamed chain pet store and we recommend a 10gal kit to start out the best plus cycling for at least 2 weeks. But we sell the plastic bowls too and it gets dicey when they ask why they can't just use the half gallon $10 bowl with no room for a heater or decent filter when it's in the Betta section specifically. Hard to say "those aren't recommended" when we sell them anyway.
@@katiezellers7106 for sure. It's understandable most people think a pet store has your animal in your best interest. That's quite rare unfortunately. Bowls are cheap to produce and sell well for a lot of money. Big chain stores don't care if the fish lives a horrible life
You're an angel! Also, I'm happy to see that our local petstores don't sell those nasty "fish"bowls anymore.
i’m sure your betta will be happy to move into a bigger tank :D it’s also important to make sure they have enough hiding spaces (so maybe plant throughout the tank) a filter, and heater. it’ll be super rewarding to watch your betta thrive in his new home!
I’m glad u have a better aquarium as a bowl isn’t big enough even though it’s small
I swear to god...
Bettas are happier in smaller spaces. They feel more secure and less open or exposed.
@@dacksonflux nah it’s too small for them like
it’s a bowl
Something you could eat cereal out of if u wanted to
@@dacksonflux No they are happier in bigger spaces with a lot of stuff to hide in, like plants and leaves. Bonus point shallow water too as long there is enough space for it to swim. Plus bigger space = less ammonia/poop to accumulate
@@dacksonflux this is a myth. They like space. They are naturally found in ponds/rice paddies which are hundreds/thousands of gallons. 5 gallons is not much to ask for
I buy EVERY betta fish I see in those little containers. I have multiple tanks and own a fish store, I take care of these guys for so long until they rest....
Jakeisawesome.
Sure buddy. If that was true, all you’re doing is giving them more money to breed more fucked up fish to sell. Ntm why are you keeping fish until death instead of selling? Like why lie about ALL that 💀
You are so thoughtful ❤❤
How are they your friend if they treat an animal like that? Thats torture i feel so bad for the little guy, they could barely stretch their fins out :(
The faith u have dumping rock in is crazy
Fun fact: Beta Fish originally came from rice patties and other densely vegetated, but shallow waters. Bubblers can actually bruise them and they prefer lots of cover. They also breath air from the water's surface as needed. I am all for giving them a larger tank though.
Great fact. Just so you know the air they breathe is supplementary oxygen, meaning they still get most of their oxygen from the water, but can always get some for the air if they need it
The rice patties are on average 2-3 feet deep.
Wow you've done it beautiful he will be so happy in it❤❤
Oooo get him an almond leaf! They love to use them as hammocks

... I found my match...
Here in the philippines we called it BE TA not BEYTA
It's the same in North America. People who don't know about fish call them bay-tuh. People who know about fish call them bet-tuh
There are very few things that give me the kind of pleasure I get when seeing gold fish and beta given proper habitats.
They m if it be hardy, but they need a filter and a heater.
i keep my bettas in very big tank since it was a egg they stay in big tank for whole life
i keep them in very big tank since egg so they are very strong and swims at crazy speed
How many gallons?
I recently put my betta in a larger tank and he has swam like crazy
Shut up
A lot of the word big but no specifications on how many gallons? 50 maybe?
How many gallons is the tank?
Saying big with multiple Bettas makes it sound like a 55 or 75.
Why was it In a bowl to begin with. Especially with those rocks that look sharp, that can damage his fins. The only way that betta would be okay in that bowl is daily water changes and a lot of plants
Even then it's not okay, it wouldn't have enough space or a heater
They got it from another person. Also put the bowl in a 10 gallon so I think the Betta will be fine
Its fish abuse!
I love the idea of the plants because if you ever decide to breed your betta the planted area would be a perfect hide away for the fry
As opposed to the nest made by their father?
