"And goes down like a Legend of Dragoon Fan on any RUclipsr who even glances at it." That's a sentence that is both an objective truth and something I never knew I wanted to hear until today.
it makes me so happy that few people still remembers this game. I've recently introduced this to my girlfriend and she's loving it so far. I was so into this game so much I turned my channel name into one of my favorite bosses in the game. and I even made an in depth video on how to level up your dragoon spirits fast. never actually took into consideration this kind of challenge for the game though. the only challenge I can come up with my tiny peanut brain is "no dragoon". well done good sir. you just earned a sub from me. well done.
No dragoon is still a good challenge tbh, especially if you're not a big heal-stacker and use Rose or Shana's(lol) healing Dragoon magicks. I was thinking about the logistics of a Dragoon-only run, or even a no-addition run, where you can attack but can onyl use the first part of an attack. Seems more infuriating than enjoyable though. Appreciate the love, and keep spreading the word about Dragoon, it's a fantastic game. I've explicitly told a few people to never watch this video so I can properly introduce them to my boy Lavitz. You're doing god's work.
@lord barking Try a different emulator maybe? I've played it on espxe, but it's got...issues: namely, the crashes on the last boss of Disc 2 and the Kraken if you use Dragoon. Maybe Duckstation or Mednafen will run it better, though.
Do you deal more damage in dragoon form? I always oonga boonga my way through the game because I can never get the timing right for the dragoon attack.

I'm impressed. When I saw this I immediately thought of the inventory limit and thought it would fail very quickly (minus the intro bit). I honestly never used attack items when I played, so I thought they'd be useless
Watched a couple of these style of videos you’ve done now and you do a good job of keeping the entire video entertaining as opposed to the very dry style of explaining people usually use for these videos. Excellent job.
Thanks! I wanted to make the Breath of Fire 3 one a little more explanatory around concepts and mechanics and stuff, so I can pace it better. I think Dragoon is a bit dry in comparison, but I appreciate the kind words regardless.
Awesome video man, of my favorite game of all time too! I never thought of trying an Item Only run, I will have to try this. I've always been able to get the max 268% with button mashing, I've got that crack head speed I guess haha

I think she's technically 11,000 and it's got to do with age cycles or extended moon cycles or some anime garbage, also I think it's more about her being cursed to not age than just aging and not dying... Anime. there's a reason specifically outside of just big number, but you right, big number is interchangeable with big number.
@@Caspicum I read the wiki to understand more about her; and yeah, unlike the typical fare, this game does use the “walk the earth for eons” trope which I admit is better than “throw an age number at wall just because” trope. @@Borti_Ovi She really shows her age in her dialogue, too, usually offering some bit of useful wisdom. Rose's moments are honestly some of the best stuff about a second playthrough of LoD, the writers had a lot of fun hiding things in the open for her storyline

This game was part of my childhood and i remember it very fondly! i still have my four ps1 discs! Such a great game that deserves much more appreciation! I really hope one day it gets revived for a remake or a remaster
Legit surprised it had so few challenge runs, such a beloved game, I thought for sure at least one of the challenge runners would take a break from pokemon or dark souls. some things you gotta do yourself, hey.
12:57 there's no reason to feel bad for the mates down in the slums. Because if those random items sitting in chests and on the floor were any use to them, the people would have grabbed them ages ago
tips for magic runs: use elemental weaknesses, let 2 members die, the only remaining member will get a strong buff all over. switch armors to boost magic or melee defense depending on the fight. use speed boosters and you can play the japanese version, which is slightly harder but magic is also stronger
@@Caspicum yup, the japanese version works with the pocket station. once you get to lohan, dabas(the guy you saved) unlocks a minigame. now, i don't remember if it needs the powerstation to work or not, it has been decades (:D) but dabas definitely gives you a magic bag which can be used to store items
Just found this and it makes me want to try it myself! about a year ago I finally bought the game to replay is pa1 and it still holds up. Truly one of my favorite game and one of the OGs
I remember renting this game when I lived in Adelaide during high school in like year 8. I never actually finished it. Though have it on PS3 PSN (will eventually play it). It’s an awesome game though. Also, great video with even better humour. ^_^
bro i swear i replied to this TWICE. RUclips STOP CULLING MY REPLIES. I don't even know what I said but the comment takes me back to the rental years, which i how i found all these games hey. the breath of fires, the final fantasies, the dragoon, all in their weird cases. I appreciate the praise and for checkin the video out! I hope youtube actually delivers this comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! each one of those exclamation marks shows me distaste for youtube's comment system.
@@Caspicum lmao, no worries. I honestly didn’t know that RUclips did that for people on their own videos, but yeah their worthless soft delete system is infuriating.
Great video and I'll say still counts in the beginning since people do "____ type only pokemon nuzlockes" and still have to use a starter that isn't that type.
I still haven't got around to beating this game, only ever watched my friend play it back in the day and played a little bit on an emulator a few times. Hilarious video though, I look forward to youtube recommending a few more videos in the future and never subscribing because I already have too much other shit I never watch. Have a thumbs up and a comment for the algorithm though.
On my last run of all time favourite gem, I decided to use starting weapons only. Not overly difficult, but certainly made farming additions a little less tedious due to lower damage (therefore more additions and overall less random encounters). I remember the first time I played this game as a wee lad and I was horrible at additions, however I still DOUBLE SLASHed all the way to Melbu Frahma and had a ball. I think I'm due for another replay soon. Good stuff Casp, I've been binging your backlog of videos. Keep up the great work!
I took Volcano all the way to the end, because I didn't think I'd have time to level everything and stuck with a fairly high-damaging tech. Could never hit shit like Gust of Wind Dance either, so I think my final line up was Albert using Spinning Cane(?), Dart with Volcano, and Kongol doing whatever he did. idk how i beat the game using the three magic defense bitches but kids are stupid determined hey. Starting weapons only was something I was thinking about, weapons seem like a majority of your attack increase, so that'd be interesting. also thanks, my brother. I will keep up the (questionable) work!
When I played LoD with a speed boost (time is money...), I've also used Double Slash or its equivalents of the other characters for the whole game. This is actually way more viable than I thought at the beginning. LoD is one of my all time favourites and I'm so happy every time when finding a new video about it. Takes me back 25 years.
@@Caspicum I mean, Albert might not have a lot of magic defense, but he does have Rose Storm, which goes a long way toward making up for the entire party's magic defense weakness.
This is literally an idea I had in my head for the past year, and to solve the obvious problem, the idea was that I could only use basic attacks if I ran out of items. No additions.
I think that'd be necessary in the Japanese version tbh. You'd need some sort of extra damage there to compensate for the higher health values. I'd love to see more runs of this though, if you ever do any and upload them, you should 100% send them to me.
@@Caspicum I'd love to, though I lack a decent computer to play it or parse footage with. The other idea I had, was simply wondering if you could beat the whole game with only your Dragoon form. Now obviously that's not entirely possible, but with starter weaponry and SP-focused additions only, the damage would be negligible. I'm basically just wondering if a determined player can overcome the dragon block staff lol.
26:16 Does, does this say armor of Yore, or armor of Vore? Because if its YORE, then ok cool. But, if its VORE, then, Legend of Dragoon, bro. We dont need to get eaten by dragons, or Visages. God knows, the freaking 4 or 5 phase final boss (i forget how many phases there are actually) didnt get that freaking memo. Also, i am so glad i discovered this channel, you are real funny with your jokes man
In future, you might want to use a different mashing method for any games that require it. A good one that I use is to hold the controller with your right hand while mashing with both your index and middle fingers on your left hand. This lets you put less strain on each individual finger, while also letting you mash up to twice as fast as just hammering on the button with your thumb.
@@Caspicum Well, there is one item I know of that causes damage, which would be the item known as the Point Card. However I think there is only one of them in the entire game so you might have to cheat to get more of them before you can start the challenge.
I figured this was doable. Yet, I didn't expect the last boss was to be hard, just the secret boss Faust. I forgot the last boss was a Wingly too. Goodbye thumb.
It's mental that Faust wasn't as hard as the final boss, given the inventory and stat difference. Also the fact that he's Faust, and always ruins me when I do casual plays.
Casp: has 2 different saves for a strict challenge run Me: has 10 different saves for a normal run Final Fantasy Tactics taught me the horrors of getting softlocked😥
The fact that I had 2 is a miracle, I usually only have one :^) if i hit a brick wall, I will burst through it or die trying! unless it's a challenge run because i don't remember games so well
@@Caspicum Damn, respect. I'm so worried that I mess up something everytime I feel I'm progressing too fast and when I realized I have 5 saves for a linear JRPG.
This is literally my favorite game. I remember items are VERY powerful in this. But the price is probably what I expect to be the firm cause of slowing it down.
@Casp The addition system was like a massive lure to me and the characters were all so cool. (Except Shauna cause she had no addition). I remember crushing on Rose. Crying when Ya Boi took a sword from beind. Whooping when I realized Kongol was on my team eventually. I loved the Dragoon system because it was so flashy and would change the background. Sometimes I would boot up the game. And just listen to that intro music for hours. They don't make them like that anymore. I don't lie when I say I would kill for a sequel or reboot or even something adjacent to it in gameplay and themes.
When you said how disc 3 basically dropped the ball in the battle department I was like yup your exactly right ,this is why people don't like the game. Disc 1+2 are ok disc 3 gives me stomach cramps lol
Yeah, Disc 3 is the drop-off point for most multi-disc games. There's not many games over 3 or 4 discs, but every single one hits a hard wall on Disc 3. FF9, FF8, Dragoon... Other. Koudelka was over 4 discs but the game is only 10 hours long, and it stays pretty consistent until the final bit.
you should use drummers mash instead, its where you lock both your bicept and triscept into a flex and then ease off your tricept a bit and it creates a vibreation in your fingers, i can average a 12 mashes a second
That was one that I tried, but my mash button didn't like it very much. there's only one thing I use my biceps and tris for, brother, and that's when HULKAMANIA HITS
It was surprisingly quick for the length, my videos aren't the most demanding when it comes to editing, and most effects are simple which is why they look like shit :^) legit, the worst part is always audio recording and editing, once that's done and everything's in the timeline, it's a couple days at most.

Le gasp! New Casp! We're in for a treat!
I hope so!
I'm so fucking upset that I'm just finding your channel at the tail end of fucking 2022.
I've been around for a very long time... Some would say too long. I'm just glad you found me at all.
Love the video mate! Keep up the great work.
Will do! Thanks for the kind words, brother.
Oh yeah The Legend of Spark Net Users, classic!
Dragoons need not apply (not racist)
5:19 did this man just t-posed before foreshadowing?
He guarded with his big poker!!
Truely one of my favorite games I’ve played growing up. Love seeing it be played in a challenge format!
Legit surprised it had so few challenge runs, such a beloved game, I thought for sure at least one of the challenge runners would take a break from pokemon or dark souls. some things you gotta do yourself, hey.
God dang. I love this game. Its legit my #1 favourite game of all time.
That megaman music so good bro well done your a legend
12:57 there's no reason to feel bad for the mates down in the slums. Because if those random items sitting in chests and on the floor were any use to them, the people would have grabbed them ages ago
tru tru, I think it's mostly dirt
This is insane dude, subbed
ty ty. the most insane part was that I had never done it before
@@Caspicum XD
@8:00 Lmao, also I think this game might be my happy place, top tier nostalgia.
I’m surprised this game doesn’t have a dart only run yet
Nvm ruclips.net/video/Ndt7OIENVII/видео.html
I swear I've seen that before...
Love the break character laugh at 1:20.
tips for magic runs: use elemental weaknesses,
let 2 members die, the only remaining member will get a strong buff all over. switch armors to boost magic or melee defense depending on the fight. use speed boosters
and you can play the japanese version, which is slightly harder but magic is also stronger
Also with the JP version, the pocketstation extra allows for 64 items, but that might be too cheaty
I didn't know magic was stronger in the Japanese version, and i actually have a pocket station... so it's possible then?
@@Caspicum yup, the japanese version works with the pocket station. once you get to lohan, dabas(the guy you saved) unlocks a minigame. now, i don't remember if it needs the powerstation to work or not, it has been decades (:D) but dabas definitely gives you a magic bag which can be used to store items
Finally, a good challenge run video
There's plenty of good challenge runs out there, my dude (probably). Nice Bonaire picture too!
Just found this and it makes me want to try it myself! about a year ago I finally bought the game to replay is pa1 and it still holds up. Truly one of my favorite game and one of the OGs
You start to miss the Addition system after a few bosses, it's legit not worth doing. *however* i wonder how viable a dragoon-only run would be. :^)
still waiting a remake..... will forever be disappointed
Man broke his thumb and called it fun, Yep this is definitely a Casp video
It was only after I broke my thumb, that I realised what I could do with it.
Great video and I'll say still counts in the beginning since people do "____ type only pokemon nuzlockes" and still have to use a starter that isn't that type.
Yo is this a 40 minutes video damn that's long I will have to watch while I grind in other jrpgs
*never again*
I like this game it’s like one of my Japanese animes. It took a lot from saint seiya, like pretty much every rpg game did in the 90s
Saaaaaaaaaaint SeeeeeiYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I still haven't got around to beating this game, only ever watched my friend play it back in the day and played a little bit on an emulator a few times. Hilarious video though, I look forward to youtube recommending a few more videos in the future and never subscribing because I already have too much other shit I never watch. Have a thumbs up and a comment for the algorithm though.
I immediately gained respect for you with that into
i don't know what i did, but the respect is mutual
Good to know there are others that hold this game with the same high regard as me.
If you ever talk to someone who doesn't hold Dragoon in high regard, they're bad people. Just telling you that now.
One thing in this game stuck with me until this day "Gust Of Wind Dance"
The additions are a hoot, and surprisingly not too different from the Japanese recordings
Also, i am so glad i discovered this channel, you are real funny with your jokes man
Love this game played it a lot hopefully one day we'll get a remake
always happy to see a new casp video
ty ty. i'm always happy to see it done!
For mashing I rock my wrist back and forth in quick, micro movements. It works great and it’s something gamers are already good at.
This was a very good video I hope to see more like it 😁
ty ty 🙏
In future, you might want to use a different mashing method for any games that require it. A good one that I use is to hold the controller with your right hand while mashing with both your index and middle fingers on your left hand. This lets you put less strain on each individual finger, while also letting you mash up to twice as fast as just hammering on the button with your thumb.
Enfin un guide où l'on trouve de tout ! ❤❤❤
You should also do this challenge for Legend of Legaia.
Could be quite fun :)
I was looking into Legaia, I can't remember if it even has damaging items or not. My list is... very low, so any recommendations are great.
@@Caspicum Well, there is one item I know of that causes damage, which would be the item known as the Point Card. However I think there is only one of them in the entire game so you might have to cheat to get more of them before you can start the challenge.
I really like this game, it's the second best looking game imo. Just beautiful.
For a first play through with no research done its pretty impressive you were able to finish this.
It's not a first playthrough, but I did borderline zero research for it, and it's been a good couple years since my last play.
I've beat this game 4-5 times. Love it. Lavitz ftw.
This entire channel feels specifically focussed to shame me for how few RPGs I've apparently played.
I'll shame you until you experience MY childhood.
Casp: has 2 different saves for a strict challenge run
Me: has 10 different saves for a normal run
Final Fantasy Tactics taught me the horrors of getting softlocked😥
The fact that I had 2 is a miracle, I usually only have one :^)
if i hit a brick wall, I will burst through it or die trying! unless it's a challenge run because i don't remember games so well
@@Caspicum Damn, respect. I'm so worried that I mess up something everytime I feel I'm progressing too fast and when I realized I have 5 saves for a linear JRPG.
Oh items are fucking broken for 90% of this game, until lv 5 Master Additions and Destroyer Mace at Critical HP
Yeah Disc 2 was a huge drag because of how hard I walked through it. Even Lenus, the mighty Lenus was absolutely no match for a cheeky thumbing.
@@Caspicum Oh yeah, you just gotta carry 5 Burn Outs from Disc 1 on a normal playthrough, avoid transforming into Dragoon and she's a goner.
This is literally my favorite game. I remember items are VERY powerful in this. But the price is probably what I expect to be the firm cause of slowing it down.
Quality taste
@Casp The addition system was like a massive lure to me and the characters were all so cool. (Except Shauna cause she had no addition).
I remember crushing on Rose. Crying when Ya Boi took a sword from beind. Whooping when I realized Kongol was on my team eventually. I loved the Dragoon system because it was so flashy and would change the background.
Sometimes I would boot up the game. And just listen to that intro music for hours.
They don't make them like that anymore. I don't lie when I say I would kill for a sequel or reboot or even something adjacent to it in gameplay and themes.
I'm with you there, when I got Kongol's dragoon spirit I shit a brick
Damn, no GUST OF WIND DANCE!!!! Best dialogue in the game 😂
every line is a gem
great vid yet again casp! this one mustve taken a super long time to edit
It was surprisingly quick for the length, my videos aren't the most demanding when it comes to editing, and most effects are simple which is why they look like shit :^)
legit, the worst part is always audio recording and editing, once that's done and everything's in the timeline, it's a couple days at most.
a legend of the dragoon video? posted this year? with more than a couple thousand views?
this is a good day.
My mic's not bad either. Shame about the voice.
I've noticed there's been a lot of great Dragoon videos of late, from a lot of nice fellers with good quality. It's been a good couple years for Dragoon vids.
