Welcome to the club. Best advice is to just play through the story and enjoy your time. The post game takes a ton of time and thats what most of these tips are for. If your super stuck on a map go to item world on a wepon and grind for a bit.
the best way is to keep playing and grinding your own way and when you see a video that far surpasses what your characters can do then start doing research, and you'll understand what you're missing a lot quicker its the method how i found out about the importance of Weapon Mastery, if gives you stat bonuses when you use a specific weapon with tons of mastery levels
I believe there's an error here. You advise to combine all of your stat-increasing innocents while leveling weapons because the bonus gain is based on their level, but IIRC it's actually based on the *number* of them. Which means if you take two identical swords, one with a level 300 gladiator and one with ten level 30 gladiators, the second sword will end up stronger, and not by a trivial amount. It's best to keep a bunch of low-level innocents of all the stat-gaining persuasions available to put on weapons as you level them up to maximize their stat increase in their particular area, and then move combined high-level innocents onto them once you've finished that.
I’m currently playing a bunch of older game series that I missed out on, and Disgaea is one of them. I’m starting from the first one, and your guide tips guide was quite helpful. Good work
Okay, I did not realize that throwing Senators in the Dark Council will combine them and over turn/get rid of nays is a benefit. That was a really good tip.
Played this for 2 weeks now, absolutely addictive. I'm way too overpowered for the main game unfortunately. But raising your stats with innocents is really fun.
Oh that throwing trick with the throwing the tougher enemy senators when you failed to pass a bill woulda been so nice to know when I went to replay the PSP version recently, did pull through regardless but that woulda saved me alotta time and heck I even learned something as a Disgaea Veteran
I needed this. A lot of quirky little things in disgaea that just don't get explained. Like imagine my surprise when I accidentally threw an enemy on top of another enemy (couldn't see from the camera angle) and they...COMBINED.
It's really useful for early leveling. Theres one level called Ice queen or something that I like to take a low level person into, combine em all, let that low level person just start hacking a way while they're on an invinceable tile. Lets them get weapons mastery really quick. Then you toss them on the 1 square that doesn't have invincability and you start whittling down their health... you end up jumping a bunch of levels early in the game.
Disgaea 1 (PS2 varient) is where I learned all my habits from. I always wait on item world until I have throw 5+ in good supply. I'm on my third purchase of Disgaea 1, and as a casual player most of this stuff was foreign to me. I'd only learned recently about the idea I shouldn't be just using reincarnation as often as I was. I was under the impression you had to clear every floor of enemies in the item world (It was a good place to grind when you have a crap-ton of characters) - but looking it up says you don't really gain anything from doing that. That really changes things for me - for sure!
Other potentially strange things I do in Disgaea games is saving all the gold items, no matter what it is, and everything else gets sold (Used to save gold and silver, but I had to let that go for organization) So part of the interest for me is being in the item world, and gold item hunting with my thief (I should probably make a second thief - to be honest!) I also don't follow the story much, and end going into the item world as soon as I can. I also used to use the promotional battles as ways of levelling early on (Can't do that with the latest patch though) I also tend to favour the NPC's I make over the main characters. I also keep giving the main character gloves, even though swords are better at dealing with tons of enemies.

First tip, are you sure healers don't get exp through recovery spells? I'm playing on the Switch and they are leveling by casting the heals AND shield spells
You do get experience with healing. Played 50 hours so far on the switch. My healers gain levels all the time from using heal spells. This was a qol improvement added to the complete version. It's not in the OG game, psp/ds or pc ports.
Use jotunheim stage three terrible cold for crazy leveling by healing the enemy after combining all of them and this is very safe because of the invincibility geo effect and use the master and apprentice thing to teach omega heal to all of your charachters
Doesn't using only one character limit your fun? I would be bored out of my mind playing this with just lahral. I create a character with every base class and reincarnate them to the next tier job. I will also use one or two monsters and a named pcs. Item world is a blast. You also can't do strategies like joint attacks and lining up shots, making geoblocks kill everyone etc.. I never understood some people's idea of fun in just maxing out the character. I play to have fun, experience the story and build team based strategies. Using only one character would limit all that and get boring real quick.
I would agree with you, but when I first played Disgaea 1 on the DS I instinctively stopped training a team and started using only Laharl. I still used other units for throws, buffs and heals, but all my firepower was centered on him. Disgaea 1 doesn't offer a lot of easy ways to get a strong team, it's much less stressful and time consuming using a single character. Plus, you get very strong units on late game to form a team, and you only need 1 character to defeat the "first boss".
btw, I used a 14 unit team on a "generic units only" playthrough of Disgaea 5 and it was really fun. It took a lot of preparation for faster grinding, and the ban on powerful Evilities like "Violence" was always creeping around, but I managed to bring everyone into a very equal power level and beat Baal using everyone. Still can't beat Carnage Baal, but alas...
Fun is not a goal. Experiencing the story is like 1% of this game and doesn't require grinding at all. Team based strategies are good, but all of the best strategies involve movement, throwing, status effects, geo symbols, etc and not splitting experience (and therefore damage) across multiple characters. You're only losing combo attacks (which is used as a power levelling strategy anyway). It's not less fun. And the un fun aspects (grinding a levelling map over and over, clearing item worlds over and over) are reduced significantly. Besides, you still need to level a thief to get the best items.
@@AnimeReference thieves have a 1% chance to steal at minimum and that is enough to screw over prinny baal allowing me to solo him with laharl without reincarnating or doing anything with innocents on max difficulty.
Healers do get exp from healing its how you can get one of your characters higher than normal levels during a story mission. My biggest regret was not being greedy enough with my heals cause i couldve gotten like 10-30 more levels out of it
It's ok, I used tons of characters on the main story (like 12 or something). I just had to drop many of them temporarily at least in the post game cause it can be tough to get good enough stats.

Great video, it very informative, and I find it gret help. Tho I must say I feel cheated, I bought Disgaea 2 on steam, and I saw D1 on PC and it looks so well, old, they even didnt properlly cut pics for upscaled sory event conversations, not to mention low res sprites.
its strange i have played nearly all the disgaea games, and of course my first game was disgaea 1, now i have the switch and i feel like buying it for the switch simply because im a huge fan PS. disgaea 6 is coming out on the january 28th 2021 for japan, but for worldwide not sure but i read somewhere on june 22
This is very interesting. Been a Disgaea fan from D1 Psp and so on. Got the game the day after the release. New for me is the Innocents. Never really new them until D5 (dum dum here), since I was on plowing through levels alone. But the system is weird as in D5 not subdued innocents arent transferable im another weapon or accesory. And after revisiting the PsP. I missed a lot of end game content. Also just a FYI I read that 1.0.1 patch ver for innocent Statistician is 600. Patch 1.0.2 finalize the 900, faster geo panel animation and the bonus gauge abruptly and more for NA users.
Yeah, a lot of people weren't happy with being unable to move unsubbed innocents, not having vertical throws, and not gaining experience from heals. I spent so much time on D1 that I work around everything without thinking about it so it doesn't affect my experience. Many people are use to having everything so it's definitely a huge step back if they're coming from D5. But it does seem like NIS is doing what they can to update the game to be more in line with newer Disgaea games. Where did you read the statistician info? All I could find for Refine patches are 1.03 and 1.04. 1.03 seems to have the some updates as NA 1.01 patch and HolyLancer9 says it's 900 on reddit. I didn't test this so I'm taking his word for it.
jRPGFanatic Even in old system it still works, classic brings out the franchise from today. I actually tested it. But Im not sure tho, because from what I recall there is only 2 patch in D1 Complete in Switch version. The first one was actually last night where my game is ver. 1.01 Statistician was capped at 600. Then I found a gamefaq article with a public link www.benoitren.be/switch-gamepatches.html I patched my game and its now 1.02, aandd its now cap in 900 prior innocent. Or maybe it could be because of the console. I forgot your running the game in PS4.
@@Fleru-ls8tc Yeah, I'm on PS4 and it only has 1 patch (1.01). NIS didn't update their English site with any patch news and I don't own it for switch so I guess the switch patches are being released differently. That's interesting...
@@Fleru-ls8tc nah, that was based on the PS2 mechanics where 300 statistician was cap (I also didn't know about the patch when I made this) and there was no demonhall mirror. I'd say around 3500-4000 is fine or once you start getting less than 100 or so levels per clear. Once promotion ranks are saved through transmigration, you can do it earlier since you don't have to waste time getting to rank 3 again but who knows when that patch will come in.
Not in Disgaea 1. Healers only get exp in Disgaea 2 and onwards. In Disgaea 1 you would need to teach your healers damage spells to gain exp or teach heal spells to your mages.
I can’t be the only who thinks the PS2 sprite art looks way... way better than this right? The sprites look fine but characters like Laharl just don’t move as smoothly.
@@wladimirMartinOsorio CoO is Cave of Ordeals, which doesn't unlock until either after you beat the game or until close end game. You'll have to pass a bill in the dark assembly. It's pretty much guaranteed to fail so you will have to persuade by force. Either way the enemies in there are really strong so you'd need to come prepared but the 2 best grind spot in the game are located in there. I assume you're somewhere before end game, in that case, the best place to grind would be anywhere with experience bonus geo panels. The Celestia level where you fought mid-boss is a good place. But I don't remember any names of other places off the top of my head.
@@JRPGFanatic what's ridiculous is that I actually managed to pass the bill for the first cave of ordeals while on chapter 6. Either I'm extremely lucky or very persistent. One things for sure it took maybe 4 or 5 tries
Not sure what you mean by "sucks" but it looks fine to me on PS4 (I was on pro but I doubt that matters). Essentially what you see in the video is what I see.
Because the rarity numbers matched the other 4s, like was explained. If it were all 2s, or all 7s that would be good, but they're odd ones out when the rest are 4s.

@@vlc-cosplayer I think Disgaea should have a pro mode, where the player is prohibited from grinding the same levels and the item world is closed until the end of the main campaign. In such a game you must think about every decision you make.
Disgaea is a SOLO game so there is no "good" maneer to play it. The ones who want to cheat, or the ones who want to take shorcuts, or the ones who want to play lvl 1, with the eyes closed and only with a hand to play.... they should all have the right to play as they want without "pro players" or they thinks so that tell them that "it isn't the "good" way to play" Disgaea is a game, not a competition or a activity to survive. play as you want, and let the other enjoy their way >

@@mariawhite7337 Kinda. You can do it as long as you have the folks still in your portal to beat them...
My biggest regret was not being greedy enough with my heals cause i couldve gotten like 10-30 more levels out of it
It wasn't the case when this video was released. It was changed with an update.
@akira3871 it doesn't happen anymore. At least on PC.
@JRPGFanic they just did a patch where the healers can exp by healing now.
How do I unlock a Majin? I fought one in the Dark Assembly for promotion, but he's not there when I want to create a character.
Male Warrior, Brawler, Ninja, Rogue and Scout all at level 200 or higher
they have to be at the same time in your team: you cannot use de same guy transmigrating.
i bbought this hella cheap thinking it would be a cute jrpg to thinking wtf did i step in to?
These tips left me more confused....how is that possible?
VERY helpful. Thanks!
Would focusing on leveling up 2 or 3 units be okay? Idk I kind of don't like killing everything with just one unit. It's just not my style.
It's ok, I used tons of characters on the main story (like 12 or something). I just had to drop many of them temporarily at least in the post game cause it can be tough to get good enough stats.
Always freeze for me at 3:16 giving a play back error happen to anyone else?
I'm getting a similar problem
Same here
is this game on PSP or PS2 or PS4? and i mean this one you are playing in the video
PS4/Switch/iOS/Android
@@JRPGFanatic ty mate
so i was wrong cause i first level up to 2k then reincarnate then need to level to 2.5k again to reincarnated and so on
Tip 9:have a LOT of free time to play the game or play some other games with short duration
Healers do gain experience from recovery spells in complete
Me slowly leveling all the characters
Does the switch version have a cheat shop? I see people saying it got patched in others say only IOS..?? Just bought it regardless it’s 50% off in the eSHOP and looks beautiful compared to when I played it on the PSP
No why do you expect disgaea 1 to have a feature that was either added in disgaea 3 or disgaea 3 the only disgaea game I haven't played is disgaea 3 btw because I don't own a ps3 and have no intention of owning one
Great video, it very informative, and I find it gret help. Tho I must say I feel cheated, I bought Disgaea 2 on steam, and I saw D1 on PC and it looks so well, old, they even didnt properlly cut pics for upscaled sory event conversations, not to mention low res sprites.
its strange i have played nearly all the disgaea games, and of course my first game was disgaea 1, now i have the switch and i feel like buying it for the switch simply because im a huge fan
PS. disgaea 6 is coming out on the january 28th 2021 for japan, but for worldwide not sure but i read somewhere on june 22
Then I found a gamefaq article with a public link www.benoitren.be/switch-gamepatches.html
I patched my game and its now 1.02, aandd its now cap in 900 prior innocent.
That's interesting...
jRPGFanatic Yes, also I just wanna ask about Transmigrate. So basically I just reset every level 2000?
@@Fleru-ls8tc nah, that was based on the PS2 mechanics where 300 statistician was cap (I also didn't know about the patch when I made this) and there was no demonhall mirror. I'd say around 3500-4000 is fine or once you start getting less than 100 or so levels per clear. Once promotion ranks are saved through transmigration, you can do it earlier since you don't have to waste time getting to rank 3 again but who knows when that patch will come in.
1:28 Yes they do? Healers get exp from healing. o_o;;
Not in Disgaea 1. Healers only get exp in Disgaea 2 and onwards. In Disgaea 1 you would need to teach your healers damage spells to gain exp or teach heal spells to your mages.
@@daoluke476 My healers have leveled up after healing someone on Disgaea 1... o_o;;
@@Augustusir I believe they added it in complete but it was absent from the original.
Lifting the boss. Now that, has got to be a major exploit.
sure, but you stil have to beat it in the mumber of turns limited by your dispatch (10) - number of characters used to kill.
Or just out range with a Yoshitsuna
I can’t be the only who thinks the PS2 sprite art looks way... way better than this right? The sprites look fine but characters like Laharl just don’t move as smoothly.
Hi how can i grind easy?
CoO 3 and Demonhall Mirror using anything with a 3x3 skill
@@JRPGFanatic ? im new
@@wladimirMartinOsorio CoO is Cave of Ordeals, which doesn't unlock until either after you beat the game or until close end game.
@@JRPGFanatic my most high lvl is 18 with laharl. Thanks.
@@JRPGFanatic what's ridiculous is that I actually managed to pass the bill for the first cave of ordeals while on chapter 6. Either I'm extremely lucky or very persistent. One things for sure it took maybe 4 or 5 tries
in Etna mode healing heroes costs a lot of money.
No it costs the samr
Was i the only one playing this hardcore on nintendo ds?
WHY what the hell do you want pain?!
The healer character on PS4 4 levels up
no fucking idea what you just said with "matching the rarity number" on legendary weapons

hey man i got disgaea 1 from steam but the graphics of the game sucks when i switch to full screen is the ps4 store version better ?
Not sure what you mean by "sucks" but it looks fine to me on PS4 (I was on pro but I doubt that matters). Essentially what you see in the video is what I see.
Isnt the same versión. In steam is disgaea PC, uses graphics of the PS2 version with some extras.
In switch and PS4 is disgaea 1 complet, a remaster.
@@emvatomix you're right. I didn't think about it but the complete version was only released for ps4 and switch.
@@JRPGFanatic that is not what I meant i bought the steam version which I was told that it has ps2 graphics
@@hamadbuqais553 The steam version is a port of the ps2 version of the game, the ps4 version is the new remaster with updated graphics
Its $3 on steam today
Rarity 4 is good but 7 and 2 is bad? WHY?
Because the rarity numbers matched the other 4s, like was explained. If it were all 2s, or all 7s that would be good, but they're odd ones out when the rest are 4s.
nice
How do I unlock cheat shop?
It's not in disgaea 1 I can clearly see you came from disgaea 4 or 5
Who feels we need gordan jenifher and tbursday back in the new games
No one has that oppinion
We need more Hoggmeiser
My brain hurts i don't understand
Focusing on one character is boring.
Arkadiusz Jan Dylewski but Disgaea doesn’t have a cheat shop and you get mimamal EXP
@@Penguinjohn4796 I do not care about exp, the real and most satisfying gameplay in Disgaea is when your team is extremely underpowered and you have managed to win the battle anyway. I have a home rule that prohibits me from upgrading the shop, so the only way I can upgrade my weapons and armor are through the item world and hospital.

jRPGFanatic's tips are basically game-breaking which makes the game much less enjoyable.
The ones who want to cheat, or the ones who want to take shorcuts, or the ones who want to play lvl 1, with the eyes closed and only with a hand to play.... they should all have the right to play as they want without "pro players" or they thinks so that tell them that "it isn't the "good" way to play"
Disgaea is a game, not a competition or a activity to survive. play as you want, and let the other enjoy their way >
great video.. but did he really just say.. "statiticians" and not "statisticians"...
This is too cryptic to be fun. I'm not going to go through all this BS just to beat a mediocre game that doesn't understand Class-up systems.
wysi
the only Disgaea that i hate......Disgaea 2 was the first Disgaea that i played at the time, when i tested Disgaea1,all the features from this game dont make me enjoy the game at all.....
none of these tips help players just starting the game lol
Am I the only one annoyed by how he says statician instead of statistician
sadly i understood so few, bec he was speaking too fast and too mumbling....
Your tips are basically game-breaking which makes the game much less enjoyable.
Of course: Disagea isn't long enough to take the rare shortcuts it offers. Everyone have the freedom to use it or not, but I'm happy to have the knowledge of it exist.
here's a tip: don't get disgaea 1 complete
Why it's the best version of the game it has smoother and more refined than any other version of the game it still has a few problems from the ps2 release but it is the best version of the game and you can play it on the nintendo switch
What about capturing a monster by throwing it into the start portal?
Wait.... you can DO that?
@@mariawhite7337 Kinda. You can do it as long as you have the folks still in your portal to beat them... Early game I tried that with an enemy and it ended up wiping out the portal cause the folks I'd left in there were too weak (not that it mattered, I was strong enough to handle them.. I just wanted to try kidnaping lol)
@@AlanDike I'm gonna try it, I'll leave my ninja there to ensure the monster gets beat. I'm currently just grinding to get to lvl 100 in an item world.
@@mariawhite7337 I tend to use winged slayer in the graveyard once I have it, but it helps with weapon levels very early in the game. In jotunheim, the third world has exactly 1 square that can take damage. I take a stronger character, and stack the enemies together.. and corner them on an invicible square and just hack away until I get level 20 in the weapon. Then I toss them to the green square and kill them off lol. I also use cave of ordeal level 3 (and later demonhall mirror last level) and will saddle up a strong character that can kill with one hit next to a guy, move my weak character up next to them with a weapon with 600 statisticians on it and get them to team attack. Then I put the weak character away and end turn. Lather, rinse, repeat. Currently I've got the stronger enemies cranked all the way up, and I'm seeing nearly 100 levels by the end of the level.
