Wonderful vintage clip. Every one of those players in the orchestra almost certainly had a remarkable untold showbiz life story. Oh, the march of time. Heavy sigh.

Perfect; Dionne Warwick is a U.S. treasure. I grew up as a boy listening to her music in the 60's. I am still listening to this song, July 14, 2023.

Agree! I'm so thrilled Ms. Dionne is a Kennedy Center Honoree this year - finally!!!! I think the ceremony's in December, so looking forward to it, altho I think I'll cry watching the tribute to such a fabulous National Treasure! :-)

I'm pretty sure the Kennedy Center honors are televised (CSPAN? Public Television?) , as for attending the event, I think its a "By Invitation" sort of thing - it's usually attended by the President, folks from Congress etc :-)

I love this song- especially being born and raised in San Jose… I’m always curious, how/why did Burt write it? Anyone know what inspired him? I never knew anyone actually knew or cared about my city!

First: Burt wrote the music, not the lyrics!
Hal David wrote the lyrics to “Do You Know the Way to San Jose”…
He had spent time there during the Second World War and found it a charming town. He probably also liked the way that title scanned to Burt’s melody.

And Dionne has said she disliked this song and didn’t want to record it, but did so as favor to Hal, it ended up being a big hit. She said later the woo woo wooo lyrics are what she didn’t like and of all songs of hers the one she liked performing the least.

Agree. Bacharach's orchestration and Warwick's vocal were superlative but whoever counted in the tempo was speeding.
