My 9 (or so 🤔) month old kitten purrs sooo loud. It doesn't always happen but if I scratch him long enough he rolls on his back and looks at me upside down and purrs. It's the cutest thing in the world, especially when I brush him. I get cat hair in my eyes and a cutely-happy kitten. 😻

My first winter deshed on my short hair I did just this-I groomed a bald patch on his back. Go gently.

Fairy Tail like I said, they made no indication of discomfort. As long as you aren’t scraping it against their skin or they are not sensitive you won’t know until you’ve brushed too much.

This is why I stopped using the Furminator. I never got bald spots but it made my cat uncomfortable because it just pulls hair, not only the ones that are already loose. A good slicker brush will remove any loose hairs without pulling out attached ones.
Monkeh Bunnes exactly. They’re great for dogs like my husky during a winter shed but for something small like a cat who doesn’t have that level of shedding it can pull out way too much

Ironically that's quite true. Once you take out the woolly undercoat it actually promotes hair growth... meaning you'll be brushing forever. It's recommended to only lightly brush the top coat to catch stray loose hairs - and only if your cat has trouble grooming itself properly. So furminators and the like seem nice but once you get started with them...
I wouldn't use this everyday, maybe like twice a week. It seems unnecessary that often.

They can get to the point where they realise that you’re basically just a harmless human pet they have conquered 😂 my cat loved me to give her belly scritches.
On a sadder note I have a cat when I was around 13 and she started developing an infection with small pus filled holes...I don’t remember what the vet told us it was, but everyday I would come home from school, turn her around put her on my lap and squeeze out the pus, pack it with medicine. I don’t remember being particularly gentle and I was very through in getting the pus out. She was a young cat, about a year old, but she would look into my eyes with absolute trust even though she hated it and it hurt her, she never made a sound or hurt me. Now 2 decades later I realise how rare a cat she was.

I use one on my chinchillas. I have a couple that are too chubby to reach their tushes, and one with no front teeth to groom herself with.when they shed each year I brush them and wind up with mounds of fur lol
You should also compare a pic of the old cat with the new cat, to show the change.
