Thank you for the suggestions especially for that slicker brush! I've been wanting to get one like that for my cat since it makes it easier to clean compared to the one I already use and the price of that one is very good. I'm going to get it for him :D
I really want to see a video of cat's that hate to be brushed - and how to handle it properly. I think I missed the "even if they hate it" part with this one.
I have one that can't get enough of the brush (I can literally just hold the brush and she will do all the work 😂), and another that absolutely hates it - to the point that I only brush her a couple times a year because it is such a struggle. It's basically when her shedding gets out of control and it HAS to be done. And naturally the one that loves the brush (Korat, single hair coat) doesn't shed while the one that hates the brush (Russian Blue, plush fur double coat) sheds twice a year for 6 months at a time. I was also hoping to get something out of this to help her but it's nothing I've never tried before. I just end up having to hold on tight and endure the teeth and claws and growling/hissy fit she throws while I'm doing it 🤣
The "even if they hate it" part is following the advice in the video over a period of months. Start with regular petting when the pet is relaxed, switch to an appropriate brush or comb, don't hold them down if they want to leave or move around, stop when they get uncomfortable, and give them a treat when it's over. Do that every day over a period of months and they'll get used to being brushed, allowing you to escalate the brushing as you build trust with them.
My cat is a out 3 or 4 months old and did not like the comb from the start. If I comb her even one soft comb, she attacks it. I did figure out a trick. Just put the comb against her lightly and let her move against. When it's on her terms, she will get a bit of combing done. Maybe it will grow over time.

Good tips for dog owner too 😂 one thing tho, I used to have the same self-cleaning slicker brush for ray. But after a while fur and dirt seemed to be caught behind the bottom of the pins and it was almost impossible to clean :/ would love to know if you’ve figured it out!
Hey Lynn! I took a look at my brush and I don't seem to have much hair or dirt caught at the bottom of the pins. Maybe my slicker brush is step two and doesn't collect too much. The only thing I could think is maybe using some warm water and dog shampoo, plus a comb to rinse the brush and then use a fine tooth comb to pick out the hair. then at last using a blow dryer to blow out and loose pieces. Hope that helps. Let me know if it works!

@@TheCatButler I know! It really FEELS GOOOD when i read the part "FEELS GOOOD"! I love your vids SO much that i HAD to subscribe your channel when i just watched ONE video, ONE video! So cool! Love your vids!
My kittens (5 mo) don’t mind being brushed, and I am using a slicker brush. Only thing is, the slicker brush doesn’t seem to be picking up any hair. However there is cat hair everywhere in the house!
It was very helpful and I do all those things but she hates one side to be brushed so when I turn her over she will kick to leave. So I have to restrain her. As far as treats she doesn't eat them. So what else can I do to reward her.
Hi Deborah that is a good question! I had the same issue with Arya. I found changing the type of brush and brushing very lightly made her less likely to fight me. But it still can be tough if I don’t brush lightly. She does tolerate for the treats tho. Have you tried other treats? Some treats your cat may like?
I think I have two medium haired cats. They're def long long/regdoll cats, and I don't think they're short haired cats, so my question is, do I use the undercoat brush? Because right now, being June, they're shedding all over the house like crazy.
Ive been brushing my cat siblings since they were kittens (8weeks)they just turned 7 months they are so relaxed when i do it and they come when they see the brush! They are tabbies is it bad to brush everyday?
Thank you for the video! Question, I purchased the furrminator for my ragdoll kitty because of this video and because he was shedding a lot, and I’ve used it once since buying it. It removed a lot of fur and so I thought it was a great success! However, today I am researching it more and seeing many people say that this brush should not be used on rag dolls at all because they don’t have an undercoat and it can damage their fur. Is this true? I just don’t want to do anything to hurt my kitty but this brush seemed to be really effective.
Hey that is a great question! Yeah when I was researching brushes I came across some complaints as well that it did the job too well in removing fur and people were concerned about its damage to the undercoat. The concerns are valid. The Furminator is more of a heavy duty brush to get rid of tangle, mats, hairball buildup. Its very effective. I recommend not using it too much, while the slicker brush or comb you can use more. Only use when you need too. I should probably add a gentler deshedder brush in there. Unfortunately the one I use they discontinued for some reason. I may take a look at the deshedders on the market and test them out and see which would be the best choice now. Hope that helps!
Been 3 weeks and so far no physical contact between my new cat and me. She hates me so far, though she seems to sometimes seek me out, but never closer than 4 feet. I'd love to brush her.
I have a 9-month old himalayan. I have been brushing her almost daily but I recently discovered she has a few good-sized knots in some sensitive areas, like on her tummy and just behind her front paws (in her armpit, kinda). I'm afraid of pulling at them until they let go... that seems like it would be excruciating and cruel for her, no? What should I do? Should I cut them out with scissors, and if so, will the fur that grows back have a tendency to then matt too as it grows out i to the longer fur around it?
Hey Heidi good questions! Yes you can use blunt tip scissor to cut the mats out. Then gently comb it. Fur should be mat free, but you can give your cat a gentle bath to really clean the area. Only bathe the cat after you cut the mats off. Hope that helps! Linked a video to bathing a cat below. ruclips.net/video/ORtlZG_RU1s/видео.html

@@TheCatButler well she enjoys a little ear, nose and chin scratches but if I do it for a minute she’ll walk away or give a gentle bite, when I pick her up for 30 seconds she starts hissing and when I even put a brush on her fur she’ll start moving and hiss so I hold her down gently to brush her, I know it’s necessary to brush her that’s why I still do it even tho she hates it! Hi I have a question! is it okay for me to brush a stray cat? hes been around my house for years and always comes to get food. Since hes kind of an old cat now I think he might need a little more help? I sometimes notice he has like leafs on him and dirt and stuff- so would it be okay for me to brush his hair?
My female 16 year old , Long hair ragdoll, she is very, very skinny, her bones are prominate, she weighs only 6.4 lbs. She has hyperthyroidism, and cannot tolerate the meds. She sheds a lot, and often has hair matting in her coat. Are the brushes and tools recomended here, the same i should get for use on her????
Thank you for this tutorial! But is it alright if I use a toy for my little kitten? He things the brush is a toy and when I distract him with a toy he does simply nothing to the brush!
Why do you use a deshedder for a Ragdoll if they lack a undercoat? What are your thoughts on the furminator? I've read that it can be too harsh on cats and can cause damage.
Hey its a good question! I find that even tho a ragdoll doesn't have an undercoat. They shed quite a bit and a lot of their hair gets stuck underneath their coat. The other brushes don't do as a good job as the deshedders. In the video use an Andis Premium deshedder that for some reason has been sold out for a while. It just has hooks to collect the loose hair. It doesn't really cut the hair like the deshedder. And very light to the touch. The cats enjoy it. So the furminator I think some people over use it and remove too much hair. You only need a few light brushings and to maybe use it once or twice a week. My ragdolls don't really need the furminator so I stopped using it. Hope that helps!
My 4 month old ragdoll kitten thinks the brush is a toy and starts to play with it every time i try to brush him. Have you any advice what should I do?
OMG, I just have a "light bulb" of Teemo = League of Legends TEEMO?? You're a fan too? 😀 Anyway, I am confused about the 2 shedding tools: the shorter de-shedder or the bigger "teeth-like" one?? Never used them before on our Turk angora - just the slicker brush was good.
Charles indeed it’s Teemo from league of legends. I figured his personality is befitting of the name. Always being a troublemaker. Fan of the name. Haha. You mean the black one in the video? It’s to remove some of the undercoat usually for cats.
I was sure that Teemo and Arya are Ragdolls ! Minouche enjoys to be brushed and groomed, she asks for this but she has a favorite brush. Willow has short et hair, hé didn't liké to bé groomed so I changes the brush.
My 3 year old ragdoll cat will allow me to brush him and then after a minute or two, bat me hard with his paw, ouch! We received him at 8 months old and he was very skittish & fearful. Any tips??
So I've got a Siamese-ish and mystery breed (tabby maybe?) "mutt" cat and I'm not sure if I should consider him short-hair or long hair. He's fluffy but not, like, "luxurious" like a Ragdoll or a Persian. Should I treat his floofiness like that of a long-haired cat?
My vat hates me going near her with any brush. I let her smell it, rub on it and then begin on the head and down the back and within two minutes shes hissing at me....ibe had her 4 weeks now. Shes a 13 year old persian. I had a few knots cut out at the vets. Please help.....what do I do?

Hey good question only every other day. The one I use in the video isn’t as harsh. It primarily collects the hair that settles under the top layer. They sold out of it so I couldn’t post the link to it. So I linked a similar deshedder.
I have a question for you? Isn't it necessary to butt trim long-hair cats to prevent poop from attaching itself to their fur? BTW, I think Cleo is a Siberian forest cat!
Its a good question! I do butt trim Teemo and Arya. Otherwise you are right, the poop does attach itself to their fur! Oh that is awesome! Did you go get a DNA test to find out? Siberian Forest Cats are known to be playful and friendly!
@@TheNutbrittle ah okay! Basepaws can help if you decide to use it: bit.ly/3IiJTYN. I don't have a video on butt trimming my cats, but I use an electric razor to trim the hair around their butt. I find it the easiest way because the cat tends to move a lot. Hope that helps!
my cats have long fur that mats easily and they really hate brushing 🥺 i try to bribe them with cat biscuits and be nice and gentle, but they weasle out all the time. at the moment, we need to brush them with joint forces: oe holds the cat down, the other brushes. i know it’s not a very comfy setting, but otherwise we cannot reach the belly and other parts that mat easily 😔 i make sure to shower them in kisses and kind words while we brush them. but i wish they would like it more.
@@TheCatButler thank you :) we have 5 different combs at home but they never liked brushing, not even when i „play brushed“ them with a very soft brush as kittens. they don’t like to be touched when they don’t want to be touched. they come to cuddle when they feel like it (it’s often, like 5-6x a day, they also sleep on my desk and in the bed, they are not scared of us in general!) but if i pet them randomly they are like „can you please not?“ 🤣
My cat just outright refuses to be brushed, and gets severe anxiety if he’s ever taken out of the house. Even when relaxed, he retaliates. No matter what brush type I use, no matter how gentle I am with him. And I can’t take him anywhere without giving him severe anxiety. He also hates other people. Ontop of that, he’s got mattes in his fur which are definitely giving him discomfort. I’m beginning to think that he’s a lost cause when it comes to grooming my pets.

Our Mainecoon is 8 months Since we’ve had him he hates having his hair rushed He now has a mass of lugs under his body and backs of legs He’s just lashed out for the first time and my hand is bleeding! I don’t know what to do😪
My longhair moggie has a big mane, but not during the winter, she grows it in the spring and then is extremely thick and fluffy all through the summer, losing it by the winter again. It’s really weird. I do groom her at home and she actually enjoys it.
I bet your cat is still beautiful. Is she a cuddler?
Cool video.
Your channel is the best. I highly recommend this channel!!

@The Cat Butler Hey bud, PLZ HELP
I am going to get Ollie a new scratching post in the next couple of hours.
He seems to like a horizontal cardboard post. Do you have any suggestions? Hemp, twine, cardboard? Are they treated with something to attract the cat?
We have a vertical post on the cat tree but I want a horizontal one so he can stretch in both directions.
Plz reply. I'll be leaving soon. Thank you big bro.

Way cool. We got him a cardboard scratcher. He seemed to sniff that one more than the others.
Your videos have helped so much. Every night when I brush my teeth, Ollie let's me brush his. I do a bit more each day.
I have been introducing him to the shower room more and more. Today, I went searching for little fish toys for the water. Thank you so much.

My cat loves being brushed . I pick up the brush and make sound with it she comes running . Just trying to keep her still is hard walks back and forth . rolls around . But your video gave me some ideas
Glad it gave you some ideas :)
Your cats are so sweet and well behaved! If you dont mind me asking, what colour are they! Thanks for the video! ❤
Hey they are cream bicolor Ragdolls!
Us a tootbrush and a bit of shampoo or soap. Thats how I clean my own hairbrushes too!
I’m going try this with my cat wish me luck I keep up this I was thinking this before seen this video but now I’m going keep up with it because I have hard time trying brush her trying this hopefully will make it easier

I have a short haired cat and she loves being brushed, I only brush her back, Is it important to brush her tummy
My kittens (5 mo) don’t mind being brushed, and I am using a slicker brush. Only thing is, the slicker brush doesn’t seem to be picking up any hair. However there is cat hair everywhere in the house!
Next time I get a new friend, I'm gonna get that Furminator™ brush for sure!
Can't wait for your new cat!
Thank you so much for all your advice 🤗😻
Daniel glad the video was helpful!
Ive been brushing my cat siblings since they were kittens (8weeks)they just turned 7 months they are so relaxed when i do it and they come when they see the brush! They are tabbies is it bad to brush everyday?
Hey Bevie yeah it’s ok! For me it’s necessary since they are long hair get hairballs
Very helpful! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
@@TheCatButler thank you!
Thanks for the videos. I love your content! How many times a week do you use the deshedder?
Glad you enjoy the videos! I usually use the deshedder every other day. Otherwise they start to cough up hairballs. Hope that helps!

Fow how long should I brush my cat’s coat? Should I keep kn brushing til there’s no hair on the brush?
Been 3 weeks and so far no physical contact between my new cat and me. She hates me so far, though she seems to sometimes seek me out, but never closer than 4 feet. I'd love to brush her.
That mean for all complete to brush cat we need total 3 type of brush.did I get it?
How much do they shed compared to some dogs like golden retrievers which I have heard shed a lot
Hmm I never had a golden retriever before so I am not sure! My sister has a husky and it sheds a lot more than the cats. Hope that helps!

Where do you get the slicker brush from
I have a 9-month old himalayan.

Hello, I just wonder...should I brush my shorthair cat on a daily basis?
Hey you don’t have to. Once a week is good enough!
@@TheCatButler Oh, I see. I usually brush them once a month in summer when bathing them or on a random basis when I remember…but now I know more surely about it. Thanks for your replies.
hey might seem like a dumb question but do you brush the cat until there is no hair going on to the brush ?
It’s an excellent question! I usually brush till there isn’t much hair on the brush anymore.

My 1Y8M old Ragdoll cat immediately starts being aggressive tho and I have used 8 different brushes to see if it’s the brushes fault
I have tried brushing my cat when she’s sleepy or even while sleeping and she still gets up and gets mad
I’ve been giving her treats after each brushing session but she still never changed
Any tips?
good question, does your ragdoll become aggressive when you pet her?
@@TheCatButler well she enjoys a little ear, nose and chin scratches but if I do it for a minute she’ll walk away or give a gentle bite, when I pick her up for 30 seconds she starts hissing and when I even put a brush on her fur she’ll start moving and hiss so I hold her down gently to brush her, I know it’s necessary to brush her that’s why I still do it even tho she hates it! I reward her with her favorite treats and there’s still hasn’t been any improvement I tried a lot of things
What is the solution to the problem of body electricity in cats?please
Hi I have a question! is it okay for me to brush a stray cat? hes been around my house for years and always comes to get food. Since hes kind of an old cat now I think he might need a little more help? I sometimes notice he has like leafs on him and dirt and stuff- so would it be okay for me to brush his hair?
I'd say if he lets you can. You can test out how comfortable he is around you by seeing if he lets you pet it first. Hope that helps!
My female 16 year old , Long hair ragdoll, she is very, very skinny, her bones are prominate, she weighs only 6.4 lbs. She has hyperthyroidism, and cannot tolerate the meds. She sheds a lot, and often has hair matting in her coat. Are the brushes and tools recomended here, the same i should get for use on her????
how is she with other brushes you use?
@@TheCatButler Thanks!
What did you use to brush under the chin?
Hey so the brush I use they don't make anymore, but this brush is similar: prf.hn/l/rGROGQD

Hmmm if you find the hair very long then you should! short haired cats are really short!
My vat hates me going near her with any brush. I let her smell it, rub on it and then begin on the head and down the back and within two minutes shes hissing at me....ibe had her 4 weeks now. Shes a 13 year old persian. I had a few knots cut out at the vets. Please help.....what do I do?
hmmm have you tried different brush types? sometimes cats are picky which brushes they use. If the knots are serious, you may need a bath to untangle the knots.

Hi do you use deshedding brush everyday ? Thanks
Hey good question only every other day. The one I use in the video isn’t as harsh. It primarily collects the hair that settles under the top layer. They sold out of it so I couldn’t post the link to it. So I linked a similar deshedder.

I need tips for a maincoon cat that hates being combed .hates it!! She bites
hmmm it could be the brush, does it hate when you pet it normally.
my cats have long fur that mats easily and they really hate brushing 🥺 i try to bribe them with cat biscuits and be nice and gentle, but they weasle out all the time. at the moment, we need to brush them with joint forces: oe holds the cat down, the other brushes. i know it’s not a very comfy setting, but otherwise we cannot reach the belly and other parts that mat easily 😔 i make sure to shower them in kisses and kind words while we brush them. but i wish they would like it more.
Arya loves your name! The Queen of the North! Have you maybe tried a different brush? Maybe they would respond differently?
@@TheCatButler thank you :)
we have 5 different combs at home but they never liked brushing, not even when i „play brushed“ them with a very soft brush as kittens. they don’t like to be touched when they don’t want to be touched. they come to cuddle when they feel like it (it’s often, like 5-6x a day, they also sleep on my desk and in the bed, they are not scared of us in general!) but if i pet them randomly they are like „can you please not?“ 🤣
My ragdoll kitten, Julio, is really playful and doesn't let me comb his fur, since he thinks it's a toy and tries to bite it
Haha Julio is adorable :)
Glad it's not just me! The cats in these grooming videos are nothing like mine. She hates being groomed anywhere but her face and now is getting matted fur everywhere else.
my cat is exactly like this. I feel so guilty when I see a mat forming on her furr and I end up forcefully brushing her. it's never a calming experience

Hmmm have you tried other brushes? Sometimes cats are picky with the brush you use
@@TheCatButler i use a wire brush. Its prickly and pretty stiff. My cat is a medium haired tabby. Would you recommend another brush?
Yeah if your cat is not happy every time you use the brush and isn’t like that when you pet it. It is most likely that your cat hates the brush. So I recommend you change it to a softer brush if you can. My cats Teemo and Arya dislike certain brushes and I had to try several out before they liked it
