[IMPROVED!] Make a talking character avatar using only one(!) free OBS plugin

- My previous video sucked, so I made a better one. In this clip, we're making a talking character avatar that animates and moves with your voice, using only a few PNG images and a free OBS plugin.
You will need:
* Move transition - obsproject.com/forum/resource...
(no need for Stream FX with these updates, but still a great plugin to have!)
Stream asset creators may also want:
* Source copy - obsproject.com/forum/resource...

I stream at / zooba_au , usually doing audio engineering, but occasionally video and OBS content. Наука
I bookmarked this some time back when I was considering streaming. I went looking for how to do this again and kept running across videos pushing people to use Discord Reactive Images... which requires logging in to a third party site with Discord and being IN Discord and just adds unnecessary layers of complication. I remembered it could be done directly in OBS and came back here. Thank you so much for making a straightforward and fluff-free video instead of the shoveled algorithm-optimal crap others tend to make.
Your delivery is clear and genuine and every word is relevant to the topic. THANK YOU
Omg thank you so much for this. Been trying to find a simple way of doing this and this is exactly what I had in mind.
I've been trying to find a guide for using audio levels as a trigger like this for ages - I've wanted to add an overlay to my webcam when I'm shouting in terror after a jump scare!
Thanks so much for this simple guide.
Thank you for making this, can't wait to set this up!
this is unbelievably fun to play with! much appreciated for the walkthrough

I have followed this I don't know how many times. Best quick tutorial for my art.
GREAT video! This was so easy to follow, thank you!
LOVED IT. Gonna use it right now!
Got this to work, used 4 pictures for the mouth, turned out pretty smooth. Great Tutorial!
Super helpful, thank you so much for giving me more things to do!
Awesome!
Thank you for the simple but very useful tutorial!
It is much better way than other processor-heavy software solutions fot a talking avatar.
OMG!!!!!! Holy shiiit man! This is exactly what I’m looking for quite a while now. I made a character in Corel, so I can export individual parts of it. And with this I can move only its head instead of whole body for instance. And move the body a little less to make it more fluid!Daaaamn tha’ts fucking helpful. Thank you very very much for this. ❤
Great example and tutorial. Thanks.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you! :D
Well done!
Awesome tutorial!
381 subs... you deserve more ! Thanks for tutorial ! Even as non english speaker i can do it ! Very funny and easy to make it ! Thanks for help and keep going :D
Ah, that's interesting! I'll be making a very pepeg-ish MS paint OBS moving avatar very soon!
Thanks for the tutorial! =)
I would expect nothing less of you :-)
Thank you! It worked! ❤
Thank you for this tutorial.
Great video.
you are a life saver, thank you for this, also I used my own photo hhehehehe
Omg thank you
Thank you for the video. Why did disable and enable a color correction filter instead of directly enable and the source visibility?
I never managed to get source visibility working correctly. Possibly it doesn't interact well with studio mode? But I also know that OBS doesn't immediately apply visibility updates internally, so it's mildly more efficient to leave it visible but make it fully transparent.
can you do this with tts? would love to add a little character that talks when the tts goes off
I'm just sitting here laughing to myself about the wee talking cat I've created now XD
Even if I never use all this it was worth it just for that. Thankyou!
There's a short video floating around of me just laughing at the character the first time I got it working, so I understand completely 😁
I wonder if there's a way to sync png transitions based on frequency of voice. Instead of having the volume of the voice being the deciding factor on transitions, if you can link an eq to each picture and have a different picture for what frequency range your voice registers.
If you get an EQ plugin (I use TDR Nova in OBS - www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/) then you could filter the audio input before using it to trigger. Add multiple mic inputs and filter them differently and you'll probably get that effect, though it might be complicated if you have multiple Audio Move filters trying to animate the same element...
Bro can you make a tutorial on the part where it's shouting ect.
Thank you so much! Do you have a account on Fiverr or any other freelance app, if so please let me know Ive kind of been struggling!
now how do i put this in a game to stream to my friends???
is there a way to trigger a gif vocally, also what if you had a arm and wanted it to move how would you command hide the previous images?
I'm not sure about triggering the GIF, but I've seen some people have one that just loops and they often look fine just going visible/invisible.
You can invert the thresholds in the Audio Move filter to make something invisible above a certain level. Then you set up one filter to show the new image and a second to hide the old one, and put them at the same levels.
ty bro!!
thank you!!
I had an issue where I installed the Move Transition onto my OBS but nothing is showing up under my mic filters for the audio move. Is there any idea what might be the issue? (ex: wrong placement of files, not right plug in, etc)
Are you seeing the Move transition under Transitions? It adds a lot more than just this plugin.
If you're on OBS 28 then it may be related to that. I haven't been able to upgrade yet because of other plugins, so I haven't tried this out on the new version.
Please how can you make your picture talk while you're on live conference
Hi Steve, thanks for the Tutorial. I've installed both plugins and the are both in the OBS root folder. However, i don't see the Move transisition in the Filters list? any ideas?
No worries, i sorted it. I copied the.DLL files from the Programs(x86) to the other "Programs" folder and it works.
I got this to work one day, than the next day the filter was gone. I still see the plugin in the folder, but it doesn't show in OBS.
I added 'Stream Elements Live' but thinking that was blocking it I removed it. After trying to re-install Move Transition, it still doesn't show as a filter option.
Anyone have any advise?
How can i put this on my twich streams?
Can u make a tutorial for the blinking eye gif? 😄
Hello. I have a NFT avatar which is in png, I want to use it but I am having trouble creating a gif of the eye.
Do you have any suggested source of free avatar designs? Or a site to be able to make it myself?
Thank you for the vid. There is 2 download files with Windows from the move transition forum. Do I install both or just one (move-transition-2.5.8-windows.zip or move-transition-2.5.8-windows-installer.zip)
If you get the installer, it'll give you a program to run that will try and put the files in the right place.
The other one will just give you the plugin files, and you'll have to copy them into your obs-studio directory yourself.
Some sources to download avatar for free or to be able to do it yourself?
i subbed!
Nice, a third/fiftth option to pngtuber/toontuber
im getting some echo on my stream now, the only active audio is the inputs, any idea? thanks!
You should be able to mute the second input you use to animate the character. Or in Advanced Audio Properties you can deactivate all the channel check boxes to mute it
I've been watching your video for the past 2 weeks now but still I don't know how to do it. Can you please teach me
All the good music in the background. I waited to hear the Mai Tai text but It never happened 😅.
Also a great video Zooba
do you know the name of the song at 5:15?
@@elBastiTorresLive Tough Act To Follow by Johannes Hager is the song
is it possible to have this activated whilst streaming on console? (ps5)
Out of curiosity, is there a way to get this to work with Warp World's TTS? I'm trying to set up a chat avatar but can't afford the paywall for Bikubot.
It should work with any audio source in OBS. So provided the TTS is coming back through an audio channel (probably a browser source would work, but I haven't tried it), you can add the Audio Move plugin to it and animate anything.
OMG So useful....!!!!!
this is good, but for tutorial face too big, obs too transparent and small i cant see the tutorial clearly. but still can do it along thank you
Does this work with Streamlabs or is there a similar app for it?
I' dont understand what plugin he used to insert avatar.
I owe you a beer! Thanks!
This would be really cool to have as a TTS mascot, instead of using the mic, we could use the tts audio input.
I'm trying to figure out how to show/hide (popping up from the bottom and sliding back down) the mascot/avatar when the tts starts and ends.
What do you use for tts? I have an alert that pops out, tts, then leaves, maybe I can help
@@hejthenerd currently a channel point reward on my friend's stream that I set up using streamer.bot. I would love to hear how you go about showing and hiding yours once the tts ends.
@@itskiggu if you search "How to make Alerts in Streamer Bot - Customizable and Free!!" on youtube, a video by Mr Relliks should pop up, that's essentially the tutorial I followed, just with an added tts even. This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it might be something you can twist into something useful
Long time since you posted, but if you were going down this path, you *should* be able to use an extra Audio Move filter to show/hide the entire group/scene (depending on how you set it up). Then OBS lets you override the individual show/hide transitions via the right-click menu, so you can set these to "Move" and adjust the settings to make it slide in and out. In my experience, it takes quite a few tweaks to get a natural looking slide, but it's definitely possible.
how to get chrecter png
Does anybody know the name of the song on the background at 5:15?
It's Tough Act To Follow, from here: www.epidemicsound.com/track/maCiF01rVI/
wohoo
webcam??
Blackmagic 4K Pocket Cinema Camera. Probably out of most people's range, unless you're doing a decent amount of video work.
no word on how to control the eyes/??
Depends what you want to do with them. If you just want them to blink, best way is to make a really slow GIF of them. If you want them to move when you speak, you can use an Audio Move with Transform.
But if you want them to follow your own eyes, you'll need special software. I'm not aware of any way to do that in OBS without using proper v-tuber software.
@@zooba_au thanks buddy!!!
it didnt work
what version u use?
