Thank you for this unbiased and honest review. Knowing a gardener actually uses these and makes an opinion based on that, without endorsement, is very appreciated. I actually searched for weeks and was on the fence about these exact trays but I think I'll go ahead and make the purchase now. I was much like you, in that problematic 72 cell tray situation, because I don't plant 72 cabbage plants at once. I was needing a smaller scale tray for planting every two weeks and rotating my crops and using the 72 cell trays was frustrating just as you stated. I like knowing they are not flimsy and will hold up in my greenhouse to get more use from them. Appreciate your review.
great info and thanks for ideas i plant alot of hard to find perennials and same thing for me im not planting 72 of one kind of flower so those smaller 12 packs would work for me too much thanks keep the ideas posted man :)
I bought the same ones last year...i bought the 6 pack ones this year...and are using some of them for winter sowing to see how they hold up...iam in maine, and there's no snow here yet.
I had the exact same issues you described regarding the 72-cell trays so I purchased the six-cell trays with individual domes w/venting circles on each. Unfortunately, down here in south Florida, when I was starting seeds outdoors in Summer, both the clear domes and green trays literally melted to the point that the lids wouldn't fit the bottoms. I think they'd be great for starting seeds indoors or where the sun/heat weren't as intense.
I bought these trays last year and like them a lot. But the trays ARE more ridged than the black ones, which is good, but makes it a little difficult to get the seedlings out. I'm thinking about drilling the bottoms a little larger so I can push the seedlings out more easily.
@stacyclark5910 Got a link for the silicone cells? Or a brand name? Years ago I had some plastic cells (about 3 in × 3 in) that hooked together with tabs. You just popped them open to remove the plant. I lost them in a move. I wish I had made a template. I might try to reverse engineer them I have never seen them again...anywhere...in any store.
I have the same pubes and really like them, but, if you stack them inside one another when not in use and it's hot out, they melt and warp so it's suggest storing them in a shaded, cool area.

Thanks for reviewing these! see these on Amazon often and wondered about the quality. For the price, I think they're worth a try this year!

True, especially in the greenhouse it can get over 120

Good idea. For me, they're small enough so I can just turn them over and the seedling just slides out.
I got ones with silicon bottoms for that reason

I’ve used grape tubs, have holes in the bottom, my onions 26 dec, cost zero,
My fav seed starters are solo cups.
