Judd. Prayers to you. My mom is currently at methodist battling pancreatic cancer and she really needs prayer as well. Thank you guys for offering even 30 mins of a distraction. I know you guys have heard this before, but its true and i thank you guys. It really is the PD family
I wouldn't expect Risner to change the plans to start Brandel and Ingram. The coaches have been pretty clear that Brandel is their guy, and he was pretty good in weeks 14 and 18, and his contract backs that up. They have also been unwavering with Ed - despite fans incessant contrary projections. Kwesi has also been extremely consistent limiting contracts for players aged or approaching 30 to one season. Risner, Feeney, and Griffin, are all on one year rental, insurance starter, back up level deals. What it might mean is that they can roster Risner, Feeney, Rouse & QBerry as back ups, stash Jurgens on the PS, and keep an extra defensive player on the roster. Remember they'll probably lose Griffin and Harrison Smith after this season, which would leave them thin in the DB room again if they give up on their young players prematurely, like some fans and analysts are inclined to do. They have limited draft picks in 2025, and FA CBs are often overpriced, so I'd suggest the coaches and FO are playing a longer game and will continue their investment in young players like Cine, Booth, Asamoah, Andre Carter II.
Just reported. After JJ told KOC he would run through a brick wall for him. He then screamed to the top of his lungs :”I WILL RIDE WITH THIS GROUP!!” The place went nuts. True story.
I know right it seems like run blocking is easier for most Offensive Linemen so its strange that he hasn't been able to improve in 5 seasons in the NFL
At the end of the show, when Phil says "We just want the Vikings to win a Super Bowl before we die" and Judd replies back with an "Amen"; you could hear it in his tone.
If he’s given a fair shake he will make the 53 man roster. Forget that he is a UDFA, he was PFF #1 cornerback in the SEC last year. He will be better than Booth and Evans and is not ‘handsy’ like Blackmon.
No reason why they won't all make it - Booth, Evans, Blackmon, Khyree, Dwight, Murphy and Griffin. Remember Griffin is probably only a one year rental - so if they don't keep Booth and Evans, they'll be back to a very small CB room again. As Flores said, you can't have too many CBs.
Risner run grades are bottom half for "Backup Guards" in NFL. Risner is a very competent NFL pass blocker. Unfortunately with Vikings prioritizing run offense w Aaron Jones to protect new QBs Sam Darnold & JJ - Poor run blocking may result in more 3rd and longs, sacks & punts. It was time for Kirk to go - But these new QBs are far below Kirk at running the KOC offense.
I feel like as vikings fans we all forget that KOC won the superbowl immediately before he joined the Vikings. Can you guys break down some of KOC's Rams tape once OTAs are done?
Is Judd simply incapable of saying McCown, or did he say it incorrectly so often accidentally and then maybe as part of a strange bit that it is ingrained in him? Saying McCowan feels like an example of the adage that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
Man, I really hate PD’s quest to make Darnold a victim. A player’s success is at least 90% on them. Coaches have some influence but they won’t hold back a superstar or turn a bust into one. They help around the edges, helping or hurting fringe guys. If the Jets had drafted Mahomes, Gase would be talked about as a future HOF head coach. It is that simple. Take KOC for instance. Around here, we think he is a QB friendly HC. His attitude is great and he tries to put the QB into a position to succeed. However, he isn’t a miracle worker. Josh Dobbs was still wildly inconsistent, leading to his benching. Mullens still turned the ball over like he owed the other teams money, leading to his benching. Cousins still checked down in critical situations, leading to a terrible season ending decision. Darnold will look good in practice. He has all the physical tools to maintain a role in the NFL as a backup and spot starter. But his mental and emotional deficiencies will continue to prevent him from becoming more than a fringe starter. He panics under pressure, sees ghosts, and turns the ball over. KOC can try to scheme around that to make Darnold serviceable, but he cannot fix that. Darnold is who he is. Vikings fans should all be hoping McCarthy is so good in training camp that he is the undisputed starter in week one and he gives a CJ Stroud type performance. Otherwise, it will be a long, six or seven win season if Darnold starts all season. And we will be heading into 2025 with no answers at all at the most important position in pro sports.
So disappointed they brought Risner back. I was proud of Kwesi for not re-signing him before but no one else wanted him so I guess the temptation became too much
I think Risner was likely coming back no matter what. The Vikings just wanted to pay Risner significantly less and for a short-term deal than what he was asking for. So they made a big deal of signing Brandel and practically saying he would be the starting left guard, while watching as Risner couldn’t sign with another team. Once Risner saw what the Vikings and the rest of the league was doing, he came crawling back to the Vikings for a significant pay decrease and a one-year contract. The Vikings did legitimately need another O-line player on the roster, both as a likely backup and to compete with Brandel and Ingram for a starting guard role during camp, so there was going to be an O-line signing at some point this summer.
@@drewengel7073 you say he was coming back no matter what but he’s been a free agent for 2.5 months and no one else signed him. If the Vikings plan was to bring him back they wouldn’t have given the other 31 teams this much time to sign him. He just became way to cheap and they couldn’t resist it anymore
@@BHalo98 No I'm saying that the Vikings put a low-ball offer on the table at the start and Risner after getting rejected by every other team came crawling back to the Vikings original offer.
Speaking of f-bombs, anyone watch Hard Knocks? I swear the coaches have been trying to one-up each other in the f-bomb department. Kingsbury, Saleh, McDaniel, every other word has been an f-bomb these last 3 years. Almost seems intentional.
@@Tbass-yy8ucEvery player on Michigan’s defense has a draftable grade. Absolute beast of a college defense. 3-4 of them are instant starters on any team in the NFL. Are they, as a whole, as good as Detroit’s defense last year? No. I expect that was hyperbole by the OP. But McCarthy played every day against the best defense in college, and a defense that isn’t far off in talent from the 30-32 ranked NFL defenses. It won’t be that big a leap to go up against the Vikings first string. And I expect him to absolutely shred the 3rd stringers of any team, since that will be a lateral or even step down in competition from what he faced against the Michigan starters. The biggest hurdle for McCarthy will be adjusting to the Vikings offensive system (footwork, timing, etc.) and learning the playbook to the extent where he is no longer thinking and can just go. At that point, everything will slow down for him. Man, I hope he is a great NFL QB. It will be fun to find out, huh?

He actually did run through a brick wall. Out for a couple weeks with a concussion, tough break for the promising rookie.

Confirmed
Dalton Risner and Harrison Phillips are 2 under the radar players the Vikings will benefit from!
Hey, maybe those two guys on the o line committee can reach out to Dalton risner's representation and help him out with his run blocking! :-)

yes, society is too casual, which is true at the same time that a well placed expletive is good and acceptable communication.
People give Ed ingram a hard time but i like him
The Vikings have said Brandel is their starting guard. Barring him or Ingram underperforming, Risner is the swing backup.
Another question about the CB room. Can UDFA Dwight McGlothern beat out Booth Jr. for a spot?
Anybody has a shot to beat Booth out

Don't think KOC actually called the in game.
No, he didn't call the game. He helped build the playbook and the gameplan

I look forward to Judds first depth chart
I wouldn't be surprised if Brandel starts as RG

The big thing was they did not want him to count in the comp pick formula, so they had to wait up until a few weeks ago to sign him.
