This interview was done a few months ago. So before the recent "controversy." But I am not sure why people are surprised by her picking Whitney over Mariah. I pretty much expected it.

The title, not the media trying to stir drama again. 👌 She was asked about tons of artists in this video and only highlighted the "Mariah VS Whitney" part. Any fans who get fooled by this are dumb especially when we all know both of them are friends.
Chaka is not friends with Mariah. It’s very clear that she doesn’t like her, but it’s fair to not like someone UNTIL you disregard their achievements by saying "it must’ve been payola". Imo this moment is a good one, as she’s just sharing her taste in music, but let’s not sugarcoat things. She doesn’t like Mariah at all, and she kinda has something against her.

There's nothing graceful about Mariah, she's thrown a lot of shade towards others and that's why many artists don't care for her. Mariah shouldn't throw shade especially when you're a studio singer and average at best live singer. Good thing her, Madonna and Milli Vanilli have a solid base who don't care about live performances not being lip synced or auto tuned.

@@ushercrave And I think Mariah having more buzz and being more popular and staying relevant later on in the 2000s and onwards was more bc she was more interesting artistically than anything to do with being younger than Whitney (although ageism is definitely an issue too). By the mid 90s, Mariah had shifted her music into different sounds that were more rnb/pop and hip hop instead of remaining in the adult contemporary pop ballad sound that the main vocal divas were known for in the early 90s. And she only went more in that direction and became bolder with her stylistic choices as her career went on in the late 90s to early 2000s when she had more artistic control. Whitney didn’t deviate too much from the power ballad sound she’s known for except when she went for a more RnB sound in the late 90s, but didn’t go any further than that, so that could be why Mariah was more successful post both of their primes. The power ballad sound produced a lot of timeless songs, but was becoming a bit outdated by the 2000s and would require more vocal ability than both Whitney and Mariah could sustain post their primes. Plus, Whitney wasn’t making as many albums in that span as Mariah, so that might mean less engagement from the public. 🤷♂️

I’m a black woman and Mariah always gave respect to black women in the music world alot of them are her idols, so it’s disgusting to see them be shady at her. Whitney had a better team when it came to marketing Whitney and sky rocketing her career but Whitney’s voice had a good 15-20 years before it got destroyed by drugs and smoking Donna died with her voice and protected it until the very end she’s just more underrated

Many singers I could name from Mariah's era that were far better than Mariah and never got their due. They all had better voices than Mariah and could whistle as good if not better. Those are FACTS!

Nodules are a serious condition, one of my college friends had them on her vocal chords as well as one of my church friends. Aretha asked for someone to help her lift it and Celine answered. That's poor judgement on Mariah's part to carry any resentment on it, unless she's bitter that Celine displayed her best chops that night and she couldn't. And yes, Mariah is very talented, but trust me, she wouldn't have had the stratospheric run she had in the 90's if it weren't for Motola. Nothing personal, just saying it how it is. I've got much respect for you and I appreciate your comments. I just find Mariah grossly overrated when compared to some of her peers, that's all. Regardless, her achievements are hers and nobody can take that away from her but credit where the credit is due.

@@rigust12 Mariah has done a lot of trickery with her vocals. Singing the easy parts live and having the engineer cue in the studio version during the difficult parts. She’s a perfectionist and more comfortable in the studio making records, not so much on stage. Those are her own words too. Which is why she released so many albums in her prime but not tour dates. Mariah can sing but amazing true live performances from her are pretty few.
