- How to support a diverse workforce. Addressing micro aggressions, biases, stereotypes and other behaviors that stop you from creating a truly inclusive work environment.
Thanks Serilda. A single sentence can be misinterpreted as coded language, a microaggression or racial bias; this is why the additional discussion that follows is helpful as you mentioned. In each instance, when this dialog occurs, we move to a more just world.
Brilliantly stated. Trouble is HR plays by the boss rules
What happens if you actually match the stereotypes or elements of the stereotypes attributed to you?
What happens if the person making the microaggressions are racist?
Just don't talk or look at each other.
people always tell me, they think I'm mean.... but it's because I have resting bitch face lol.
Serilda I am going through a very disrespectful workplace in a new team I will talk to HR this coming Tuesday they will not do anything but I will have an attorney to mediate this!
I suffer from micro aggression everyday at work.
Many of the microaggressions are based on stereotypes but also, the fact that many people have never closely examined their biases. They have just accepted these biases as fact. Also, white-centering is problematic for many people of color as this allows people to have an "out" available. Seeing the problem from the majority point of view offers no solutions to those dealing with the problem.
I experience alot of microaggressive teachers and at church being kicked out of youth and church by a mean white woman we go won't keep my name out of her mouth and kept bossing me around, being prejudice, silenced for no reason, being rude to other people at church, interfering in people's lives and business, shady, sneaky and nasty behaviour of her... My silence is broken........
Imagine creating fear and victim mentally in people for living. What a twisted world we live in
There seems to be much agreement among people supporting diversity in the workforce that we need more diversity in the workforce. And any discussion of WHY is racist!
The best solution is to simply say nothing to anyone, ever. People need to get over themselves and stop looking for trouble.
Very well said!!!!
Its a simple question. Will you be sheeptrained into playing the victim
(and be easilly offended/controlled over nothing) or will you work to
develop the emotional strength you see in others where all that nonsense
rolls right off your back? Its your focus that determines your reality
Rubbish
I just experienced this
Or maybe the person doesn't want to confront you about anything incase it's misconstrued as racism.
This is why a dialog is needed.
This is confusing me. Diversity training tells white woman to be “smaller” or “less white”. But she is saying she is also judged for the same thing. 🤷♀️
She isn't. She didn't. Don't let your emotions think for you. You look ridiculous.
🤦
Isn’t being white being a person of color?
