Buying "O" rings from a hardware store might be cheap, but hopefully, those rings are gas resistant. Most fuel-related "O" rings are made of Viton, which is a material that isn't affected by petroleum products. Though fuel injection systems aren't affected by changes in altitude or temperature, I've never cared for fuel injection systems on motorcycles. Yeah, boo-hiss. I've spent big bucks on H-D parts which would fit in the palm of my hand. The aforementioned parts were foreign made (scrap) which failed prematurely. H-D played it cheap, sold out and sent American jobs to Thailand (down with globalism). Back in the 1970s, I had a friend who worked as a parts counter man at a H-D shop in Canton, OH. He helped save me a LOT of money (thanks Luke). Back then, Harley-D parts were predominantly made in the USA. In the early 1980s, I worked at a Honda dealership. I almost bought a bolt today, but the deal was a little shady. Guy only mentioned light damage from it being "dropped in a driveway"; I made the 40 mile trip to his house to find out the pulley cover on the trans was missing and part of the casting was broken off, it was missing the corner of 3 or 4 fins on the front head and the highway bars that were in the pics were gone. Guy said he owned it for a year but the tags were over a year expired. Even though i really wanted the bike it was just way too fishy. Time to find another.
I get amost all the o-rings on my hd from ace or auto parts store. Closer n cheaper then dealership. The gasket cut could be causing weak fuel pressure also contributing to your issues you had with it. Gas leaks thru anything i swear tho. Hardest fluid to stop leakin
If you are heading to do the Tail of the Dragon, either bike should be fun. Remember that Cherohala PArkway got washed out and it closed if you were tempted to ride that as well.

I have a Honda VTX 1300 and it's an extremely good bike but in my opinion parts for it are stupidly over-priced still.

For a good price it would be worth it. But it would have to be a GOOD price. Hell you could sell the fuel pump for $350 lol
